Sinossi

Fece pertanto di Dillinger il primo Nemico Pubblico Numero Uno degli Stati Uniti d’America, mettendogli alle calcagna Purvis, l’affascinante ‘Clark Gable dell’FBI’.

Ein Rheinländer kann sich in Bayern schon mal schwerlich zurechtfinden, den eigenen Akzent abzuschalten und den des Gegenübers zu ignorieren und sich irgendwie verstehen zu können, fällt da nicht immer leicht. Das ist aber kein Vergleich zu dem Kulturschock, den Bill Murray und Scarlett Johansson in Sofia Coppolas oscarprämierten Film erleben.

Zwei amerikanische Bürger stranden in einem Hotel in Tokio. Bob Harris (Bill Murray), ein ehemaliger Filmstar, dreht aus der lieben Not heraus Werbung in der Millionenmetropole. Seine Familie lässt er in der Heimat zurück und vergisst zu allem Übel auch noch den Geburtstag seines Kindes. Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson) hat sich aus Langeweile entschieden, ihren Ehemann John (Giovanni Ribisi, Phoebes Halbbruder in “Friends”) zu begleiten. Der hat allerdings keine Zeit, sich mit ihr ins Stadtleben zu stürzen, da sein Job ihm jede Minute und eine Menge Energie kostet.

Ganz abgesehen davon, dass in Großstädten die Bewohner vollkommen anonym neben sich her leben, haben die beiden Amerikaner noch ein weiteres Problem: Sie sprechen kein Wort japanisch. Um diesem Manko vorzubeugen, steht Bob stets eine Dolmetscherin zur Seite, deren Übersetzung Bob aber ins Stutzen bringen – anscheinend haben Japaner sehr lange Wörter. Charlotte langweilt sich zwar nicht mehr in der Heimat, sitzt dafür den Tag über im Hotelzimmer, bis sie abends in der Bar Bob über den Weg läuft. Schnell merken sie, da haben sich zwei gesucht und gefunden. Denn von der Schauspielerin Kelly (Anna Farris) und Freundin von John ist viel zu oberflächlich und die Bekannte in Tokio vorerst uninteressant. Doch mit dem Aufeinandertreffen der zwei verlorenen Seelen ändert sich der Aufenthalt der beiden schlagartig.

Bob und Charlotte lernen sich in einer schwierigen Phase ihrer beider Leben kennen. Der in die Jahre gekommene Filmstar sieht sich der Midlifecrisis gegenüber und sucht nach einer neuen Erfüllung in seinem Leben. Auch die Ehe hängt nur noch an losen Fäden. Ständige Reisen haben das Ehepaar auseinander getrieben. Die Kinder halten die Ehe scheinbar als letzte Instanz zusammen. Charlotte hat ihr Philosophiestudium abgeschlossen und sucht nun nach ihrer wahren Berufung. Ihr Ehemann hat keine Zeit sich auch noch mit ihren Problemen herumzuschlagen, auch wenn er sie liebt. Die junge Frau scheint zu begreifen, dass Liebe allein nicht ewig eine Beziehung am Laufen halten kann.

Langsam kommen sich die beiden Herumirrenden näher, vertrauen sich gegenseitig an, da sonst niemand da ist, dem sie sich öffnen können und wollen. Auf einen Schlag wird der Aufenthalt in Tokio zu einem wunderbaren Erlebnis für beide und die schönste Zeit ihres Lebens.

Trotz des relativ großen Altersunterschied der beiden Hauptdarsteller Scarlett Johansson und Bill Murray, die durch das Drehbuch allerdings auch vorausgesetzt wird, überzeugt die Beziehung der beiden Zueinander auf ganzer Linie. Ohne Abzüge nimmt man den beiden ab, dass sie Seelenverwandte sind, die beide verloren in der großen weiten Welt umher irren. Wenn man es so lapidar ausdrückt, wirkt der Film ein wenig banal, ist er jedoch überhaupt nicht.

Sofia Coppola führt nicht nur Regie, sie hat auch das Drehbuch verfasst. Für diese Arbeit erhielt sie auch den Academy Award und man kann ihr ihn nicht verdenken. Um Bob und Charlotte wird japanisch geplappert, wenn es nur möglich ist. Sind die beiden alleine, beherrscht eine drückende Stille den Raum. Wenn sich die beiden Treffen, berühren die sanften Dialoge und das fröhliche Lachen den Zuschauer. Dass die Bilder den Eindruck noch verstärken, dass die beiden “verloren” sind, muss bei ihrem Können wohl kaum  noch erwähnt werden. Die Bildsprache beherrschte Sofia Coppola schon vier Jahre zuvor wirklich gut, steigert in Tokio die Impressionen aber noch weiter.

“Lost in Translation” ist ein humorvolles Drama um zwei Menschen, deren Leben auf den Kopf gestellt wurde, ohne es selbst verursacht zu haben. Diese Lebenssituationen passen aber zusammen wie die beiden Schauspieler, die sich in ihrer Leistung gegenseitig wundervoll ergänzen – ein durch und durch gelungener Film in einer fremden Kultur.

The Dead Girl (2007) directed by Karen Moncrieff stars Toni Collette as Arden, Piper Laurie as Arden’s mother, Giovanni Ribisi (Rudy), Rose Byrne (Leah), James Franco (Derek), Bruce Davidson (Leah’s father), Mary Steenburgen (Leah’s mother), Brittany Murphy (Krista) Josh Brolin (Tarlow), Kerry Washington (Rosetta), Marcia Gay Harden (Melora).

This is a very complicated and carefully told story that unfolds in five chapters. It starts when Arden finds the body of a dead girl in a field in the rural landscape where she lives with her mother. Arden tells the police and becomes a local celebrity which leads to her being asked out on a date by Rudy who works in a grocery store. Arden is played beautifully as someone who is caught in a stifling and cruel relationship with her ailing mother. She breaks free from that and leaves with Rudy.

The next chapter shows Leah, the morgue attendant who is living with the pain of a missing sister, and the effects of that. The story here is about how the various family members are trying to deal with having had the older daughter gone missing without any resolution. They don’t know if she is alive or dead and they don’t know what happened to her. Leah, who is deeply depressed, just wants it all to be over. Through a series of circumstance she believes the dead girl is her sister and that almost frees her until she finds out she was wrong.

The third chapter deals with a woman whose husband goes away on long road trips and the infected, seriously twisted relationship between husband (Nick Searcy) eventually leads to the wife discovering a storage locker where her absentee husband keeps trophies in the form of bloody clothes and jewellery and things of that nature. The wife (Mary Beth Hurt) understands that her husband is a killer and she has to deal with that knowledge somehow.

The fourth chapter shows the mother of the dead girl, Melora (Marcia Gay Harden) trying to understand what happened to her daughter, finding out where she lived, that she worked as a prostitute and that she has a daughter. She works through all this and decides to take care of her granddaughter.

The last chapter shows the dead girl herself, Krista, and her last day. She comes across as a damaged soul in a lot of ways, but she is also stronger than you would think at a first glance, and the viewer gets to see some of that too.

It’s so rare to see a film that actually features women in this way. We’re talking beautiful talent, skilled work and honed dialogue showing actual women as opposed to Barbie dolls, with hard choices to make portrayed with all the depth and fullness that these wonderful ladies are capable of. That alone makes this worth watching. In some ways they are all victims and they all rise above, change their lives and move through the world as best they can.

It’s told in inverted order and without sentimentalism. It’s absolutely fascinating and gut-clenching to watch a performance like Mary Beth Hurts and seeing her make the wrong choice, seeing how poisoned her thinking is from what must be a long and deeply infected relationship. It is a movie about human interaction and all the ways in which women can get caught in bad circumstance just as much as it is a movie about a murder.

Complex, intelligent and completely engrossing without any kind of moral soapbox action this movie gives the manifold leading ladies a chance to show their skills.

Sofia Coppola’s feature film debut The Virgin Suicides has flew under my radar for years. With the subtle title like this, you know there will be multiple characters that will commit suicide. The review will have spoilers to explain the entire story. At the end of story, what was the message of the movie?

Based on the novel by Jeffrey Eugenides, the action takes place in the summer of 1974 where the hypercritical, ultra-conservative Catholic parents Mr. and Mrs. Libson, (James Woods, Kathleen Turner) have been overly protective on their five daughters; Cecilia, Lux, Bonnie, Mary and Therese (Hanna Hall, Kirsten Dunst, Chelse Swain, A.J. Cook, Leslie Hayman).

Giovanni Ribisi narrates the movie after the fact. He tries to piece together the events that lead to the titular suicides of that particular summer.

The youngest daughter, Cecilia is found in the bathtub with her wrists slit. Found beside her is a tarot card of The Virgin Mary with the movie number inscribed on it, “555-MARY.” The neighborhood is gossiping about why she did it. The family is sent into a tailspin. Cecilia is sent to therapist, Dr. Horniker (Danny DeVito) to figure out what is wrong with her.

The doctor concludes that her suicide attempt was a cry out for help. He suggests having a social gathering outside of school. The parents relent to have a small party in the basement of the house. The party in her honor, but Cecilia is still not having fun and wants to be excused. Few moments later, Cecilia finally kills herself by impaling herself on the iron fence in the front yard.

The parents think that overprotect the girls from the world would help them be safe, but their actions are driving them away. Lux is the rebellious girl out of the group. She wants to be like the typical teenager, but she can’t. The popular guy at school, Trip Fountaine (Josh Hartnett) wants to be with her. She plays coy.

Until one day at the prom, they hook up. The parental units put the girls under makeshift house arrest. With nothing to do, the girls were left with no other choice.

Not being aware of this plot of the movie, except for the title, I thought that there would be a pact between the kids to commit suicide. That didn’t exactly happen. The aesthetic on the movie was reminiscent of the seventies with the golden yellow hues filling the frame. I appreciated that. What’s up with the extreme close-ups of Kirsten’s Dunst’s face? Was there supposed to be a correlation between the diseased trees getting cut down in the neighborhood and the suicides? Subtle. I have one final question. When Lux and Trip hooked up, did they have sex? ‘Cause the title wouldn’t apply to her.

Judgment: An interesting take on teenage angst, but it leaves you confused.

During the age of the motion picture serial, people of all ages would flock to cinemas to catch the next chapter of their favorite hero’s latest adventure. Their admiration went to epic pulp heroes like “Tarzan”, “Flash Gordon”, “Buck Rogers”, “Commander Cody” and of course “The Masked Marvel”. This golden age of action-adventure paved the way for literally hundreds of other motion picture heroes in the years to come.

“Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow” is homage to those pioneers with the help of modern day technology. The film opens with the disappearance of the world’s premiere scientists and newspaper reporter Polly Perkins (Gwyneth Paltrow) is on the case.

Just as Perkins is about to break her story, New York City is invaded by an onslaught of mechanical beings that wage war upon the city and seem to be focused on one particular mission.

The city looks to the heavens for a hero to save the day. That hero happens to be flying-ace for hire, Sky Captain (Jude Law). Like Superman, Sky Captain screams out of the clouds above and into the fray. How can one man stop this army of menacing beings? What is Sky Captain’s connection to Polly Perkins?

For Sky Captain to save the world he will have to look to the aid of his friends, mechanical wizard Dex Dearborn (Giovanni Ribisi) and fellow flying ace, Franky Cook (Angelina Jolie) of the Royal Air Force.

Once he has his allies assembled can they uncover who is behind this sinister plot before it is too late?

When you first look into the world of “Sky Captain”, you can’t help but compare it to the likes of those old ingenious Max and Dave Fleischer Superman cartoons of the 1940s. The rich textures, heavy noir shadowing, invading giant robots and a mad scientist bent on ruling the world are all vintage Fleischer. Then you have throwbacks to so many other epic serials of the same period like the classic that the film becomes a feast of the past.

There are so many clever and magical moments throughout the film that at times it is hard to soak it all in.

It is difficult to look past the film’s presentation and see what lurks beneath its brilliant execution. But the film’s simplistic storyline is something modern audiences probably won’t appreciate.

Storylines from the serials were utterly simplistic to the point where you had one man in a black hat and another in a white hat.

The film probably could have used a deeper approach with more fleshing out of characters and more supporting players but it would have probably ruined the illusion of the era it was trying represent. So in that case it is a “catch 22”, if you will.

The illusion is also maintained in the performances of the film’s award winning stars. Paltrow’s performance as Perkins is probably seen as weak but if you look at it as part of the whole film’s presentation it is actually quite brilliant because that is the way classic female characters of that era, like Lois Lane, were portrayed. The same goes for Law as the epic pulp hero. The only exception might be Jolie’s female commander. In the serials of the 1940s, her character probably would have been male.

Of the three, my favorite performance was that of Law who seemed born to play the role of a classic pulp hero. He reminded me so much of Buster Crabbe, William Forrest and even some of Van Williams from the 1960s TV Series, “The Green Hornet”.

“Sky Captain” is a brilliant reminder of what the past loved so much about science-fiction and how its innocent portrayal made for so many memorable moments.

(tratto da Nuovo Oggi di mercoledì 4 novembre 2009) – Ha rivoluzionato il mondo dei serial tv creando «Miami Vice», ha firmato il primo film con Hannibal Lecter («Manhunter»), ha impresso al thriller e al noir nuove forme di stile ed energia: Michael Mann, il regista di film come «Insider» e «Collateral»  era ieri nella capitale per presentare il suo ultimo lavoro, con protagonista Johnny Depp: Nemico Pubblico. In serata poi ha anche incontrato il pubblico dopo la proiezione in anteprima della pellicola.
Il film racconta la storia del mitico fuorilegge dell’epoca della Grande Depressione Economica Americana, John Dillinger (Johnny Depp)—il carismatico rapinatore di banche reso dai suoi raid lampo l’obiettivo principale del migliore agente dell’FBI dei tempi di J. Edgar Hoover, Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale), e divenuto una sorta di eroe popolare agli occhi degli americani di quel periodo. Nessuno poteva fermare Dillinger e la sua banda. Non esisteva prigione dalla quale non riuscisse ad evadere. Il suo carisma e le rocambolesche fughe dalle prigioni lo rendevano interessante agli occhi di tutti — da quelli della sua fidanzata Billie Frechette (Marion Cotillard) a quelli del pubblico Americano che non aveva simpatia per le banche responsabili di aver fatto precipitare il paese nella depressione. Fece pertanto di Dillinger il primo Nemico Pubblico Numero Uno degli Stati Uniti d’America, mettendogli alle calcagna Purvis, l’affascinante “Clark Gable dell’Fbi’’.
Una pellicola di cui la critica ha tessuto le lodi in questi ultimi mesi e che promette di restare a lungo nella memoria del  pubblico che si recherà al cinema per vederlo. Per ambientazione ricorda quel capolavoro che fu ‘Gli Intoccabili’ ma  l’utilizzo della camera digitale ha permesso a Mann di dargli quel senso di reale che in un film di genere è assolutamente innovativo.

Il suo è un cinema della sfida, che ancora una volta ci propone un confronto tra due uomini che seguono ideali diversi. Come è riuscito nel 2009 a fare un fim classico e così sperimentale al contempo?
“Non so bene come questo film si inserisca nella mia filmografia. Io sono stato molto affascinato dal concetto di questa vita che ha brillato per un tempo brevissimo. Mi sono molto interessato all’idea di immaginarla e, se possibile, di immergere il pubblico all’interno dell’esperienza di un personaggio come Dillinger cercando di riportarlo in vita. Se il film funziona ci si trasferisce nella sua esperienza e questa è la magia del cinema, che ci consente di vedere le cose dall’interno. Io volevo vedere Johnny Depp in un ruolo simile, un ruolo che portasse in superficie le emozioni di Dillinger. E’ stata una sfida”.

Durante le riprese avete avuto in mano gli oggetti di Dillinger. Come è nato il film, vi siete ispirati a cose vere, per le leggende siete andati a scavare o vi siete solo attenuti al libro?
“Amo molto fare film d’epoca, e quando li giro mi chiedo come possiamo sentirci trasportati in quegli specifici momenti, giorni e anni. Per me l’imperativo era riuscire ad essere dettagliato per riportare tutti nel 1934, in quel momento a quella specifica ora, far sentire che quel personaggio era vivo…volevo riportare in vita il presente che è un passato ma con una simulazione molto forte, in modo che noi del pubblico potessimo viverla come una realtà.Come pensavano questi personaggi? Io ho cercato di capire la psicologia di quel periodo, come Billie potesse affidarsi alla fede; ho sempre amato gli anni ’30 e la fede era importante perchè questa gang affermava di agire sempre come se si trattasse di piccole operazioni militari, senza avere progetti per il futuro, per cui sapevano che alla fine il destino avrebbe fatto il suo corso. Non c’era nessun piano di fuga all’estero e questo mi ha affascinato, mi ha affascinato usare delle frasi che usavano loro, come: “bisogna fare ciò che si fa divertendosi”. Io sono cresciuto proprio nella zona dove c’era il Biograph, ho visto cosa veniva proiettato in quel cinema e la storia di Dillinger mi era molto familiare: quando passavamo lì davanti mio padre mi raccontava spesso la sua storia. Con lui non c’era una donna in rosso, ma con gonna e camicetta, quel dettaglio faceva parte della leggenda.Quando con Johny Depp siamo entrati al Little Bohemia Lodge nella stanza che lo aveva ospitato, ci siamo sentiti molto emozionati, perchè contribuiva all’immedesimazione. Stessa cosa vale per Bale, che era appostato tra gli stessi alberi in cui si era appostato il vero Purvis. Nella parte finale, all’uscita del cinema, morendo Johnny guarda gli stessi mattoni, lo stesso muro che Dillinger aveva visto negli ultimi istanti”.

Questo film ricorda molto alcuni western crepuscolari, come “Pat Garrett e Billy the kid”, nel suo ritrarre la fine di un mondo con il passaggio dai gangster  isolati, eroici, ai cartelli della mafia, allo strutturarsi dell’FBI. C’era l’intento di raccontare un epoca di passggio?
“I punti che ha sottolineato sono parte di una stessa immagine. Credo sia interessante il contesto della sua vita, con i grandi cambiamenti della società dell’epoca, questo mi ha interessato. La liquidità del crimine organizzato ne permise la transizione, la struttura della polizia si stava centralizzando in qualcosa di nuovo, quindi avevamo da un lato la polizia federale, dall’altro il crimine organizzato, entrambi contro Dillinger e parte di uno stesso contesto. Ma questa non è la storia che racconto, è solo parte del contesto del tempo. Quello che muoveva Dillinger, e che mi ha interessato, era la sua sete di vita: un uomo giovane, chiuso in prigione per 10 anni, che esce e vuole tutto subito e il fatto che tutto sia avvenuto in nove settimane, questo ha creato la sua leggenda”.

Una cosa interessante è come ha saputo portarci, grazie all’uso del digitale, all’interno di una guerra in cui sembra di essere in prima linea. Come ha lavorato, la incuriosisce anche il 3D?
“Mi piacerebbe avere il dialogo in 3D. Immergendo il pubblico in uno stato di guerra si ha coinvolgimento. Abbiamo scelto di usare il digitale una notte di pioggia a L.A.: avevamo una buick e delle comparse vestite con i costumi di scena, le abbiamo messe contro il muro ed effettuato una ripresa sia in digitale che in pellicola. Il primo restituiva appieno la realtà di quello che avveniva in quel momento, mentre la pellicola dava il sapore del tempo passato. Essenziale è stato anche far diventare protagoniste le armi: il museo di arte moderna ha queste mitragliatrici che sono effettivamente oggetti di grande arte. Quando le si usa se ne sente il rumore, la forza, si riesce a capire cosa si provava in quel momento. Ci siamo concentrati su suono, immagine, tutto quello che c’era in quella situazione. Si coinvolgono gli attori, ad esempio quando si guida un’auto del ‘30 la sensazione è diversa dal guidarne una moderna, e per un breve momento si ha la sensazione di stare lì: abbiamo cercato di far sì che tutto fosse reale”.

Si tratta di una storia già raccontata, ma le altre volte viene descritta come l’uscita dalla grande depressione. C’è in questo caso un legame con la realtà odierna?
“Si tratta in realtà di una coincidenza sfortunata, non è stata la crisi economica globale il motivo che mi ha spinto a girarla. Spesso ci si riferisce ad una storia in particolare perchè c’è un aggancio con la realtà, io sono interessato agli anni ‘30 da molto tempo, ho anche progetti che riguardano Parigi e la Spagna in quegli anni, i miei genitori li hanno vissuti e mi hanno raccontato come fosse viverci, lo stessi XXI secolo è nato dalla depressione che ha generato le forze che ci hanno mandato avanti”.

Elemento ricorrente nella sua filmografia è il protagonista che prende tempo per la riflessione. Qui questo momento emotivamente catartico sembra venire negato, è come se il protagonista fosse svuotato dall’elemento emotivo.
“Per me era importante quello che era nella sua mente: mi immagino seduto al suo posto nel Biograph, lo guardo mentre guarda il grande schermo, lui era l’eroe negativo del tempo, sempre sui giornali e si rivede nei panni di Gable che era in effetti modellato su di lui. Cosa penserò in quel momento, quali saranno le mie emozioni? E’ questo il punto focale della scena e la chiusura del film: sarebbe stato riduttivo aggiungere un dialogo, o un voice over che ne esplicitasse i pensieri. Volevo che il pubblico immaginasse ciò che Dillinger provava e vedeva”.

Ai tempi di “Collateral” ha dichiarato che era molto faticoso girare con attrezzature così ingombranti. Oggi è diverso, è per questo che usa il digitale? O solo per restituire quel senso di immediatezza, come ci ha detto?
“In effetti è diventato più semplice, ma per me il vantaggio principale  è ciò che il digitale mi consente di fare, 8-9 volte di più che con la pellicola. Lì bisogna sottostare alla chimica, qui ho più capacità di intervento, una qualità che punta al dettaglio, ma il digitale è utilizzabile anche in modo che non si veda la differenza con l’analogico. Il che, però, non significa che non tornerò alla pellicola, che mi piace molto”.

Vorrei tornare alla domanda precedente per rispondere al meglio: quando Dillinger siede nel cinema, sente che il suo tempo è giunto altermine? Se sì, come reagisce?
“Quando cammina fuori dal Biograph, è una liberazione, perchè sa che il suo percorso si è concluso: questo volevamo esprimere io e Johnny”.

Questo film è libero dal peso psicologico del cinema passato: è un approccio interessante perchè il protagonista non viene eroicizzato attraverso il racconto dei suoi problemi. E’ una nuova chiave per raccontare un personaggio negativo?
“Io volevo immergermi nella vita di Dillinger con le sue contraddizioni, non raccontarne l’infanzia e il passato come in una biografia. Non si sa niente del suo passato, ma i dettagli ci fanno entrare nel personaggio: all’inizio c’è l’abbandono del suo mentore, e si percepisce l’intensità del collegamento con quell’uomo. Anche quando fa evadere i suoi amici, comprendiamo il suo mondo emotivo, si apprende qualcosa di lui, anche se il pubblico non se ne rende conto. Questa è stata la sfida intriore che mi ha motivato”.

Quanto ha pesato la manipolazione dell’opinione pubblica nel trattamento del soggetto?
“E’ così che inizia storicamente. La manipolazione dei media inizia con una grande propaganda in maniera del tutto innovativa: nel ’29 a collegare l’America è la Radio, mentre nel ’33 tutti andavano al cinema. Avviene qualcosa nei cinema di tutto il paese, e Hoover lo usa: invece di usare i media, manda tramite il grande schermo un’informazione in tutto il paese. Nessuno lo aveva mai fatto prima. E’ un personaggio estremamente innovativo, mentre Dillinger sta diventando obsoleto, perchè il mondo va avanti. Lui è il meglio del suo genere, ma è solo. Non si tratta di un tema nuovo, lo troviamo già ne ‘Il mucchio selvaggio’”.

Cosa ha chiesto a Depp e Bale per il faccia a faccia? E in generale, come lavora con gli attori?
“Lavoro in maniera tradizionale, faccio sì che si immergano nel personaggio, che ci siano esperienze che li trasportano in quel momento e li facciano pensare come loro. E loro sono straordinari e immediati. Noi abbiamo cercato di apprendere il più possibile da quello che avevamo: con Johnny siamo andati a Crown Point mentre con Bale, abbiamo cercato di trasformarlo realmente in un aristocratico del Sud degli anni ’30 come era Purvis”.

Avatar stars Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation) as a soldier who is sent into a colony of beings to infiltrate them and get information. Worthington’s character finds out that things aren’t what they seem and with the help of his human friends helps the colony whose trust he betrayed and save them from being killed.

Avatar also stars Zoe Saldana (Star Trek), Sigourney Weaver (Alien), Michelle Rodriguez (Resident Evil), Giovanni Ribisi (Gone in 60 Seconds) and CCH Pounder (Orphan). The film is written and directed by James Cameron. This is his first big budget movie since Titanic. This movie will be shown in 3D.

James Cameron lo hace todo a lo grande y es tan fiel a ese estilo que incluso las promociones de sus películas lo son. Su gigantesca Avatar, creada a medias por Fox y su compañía Lightstorm, promete llevarnos a un nuevo nivel de eso que algunos llaman cine (otros mero espectáculo) de la mano de unos novedosos efectos especiales y una historia, en teoría, cautivadora. Jake Sully es un joven marine confinado en una silla de ruedas que recibe la misión de dirigirse a Pandora, un nuevo mundo en el que la Tierra pretende crear una base para la explotación de sus recursos naturales. El problema es que el paradisíaco lugar está habitado por los Na’vi, una raza de inferior tecnología pero de gran pasión por su tierra, lo que se interpondrá en el camino de los avariciosos humanos. Sully, imbuido en un avatar de aspecto Na’vi, contactará con los nativos para aprender su cultura y convencerles de que cedan a las intenciones de los conquistadores. Sin embargo el marine se enamorará de una nativa que empezará a mostrarle la verdadera cara del conflicto. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Peter Mensah, Laz Alonso, Wes Studi, Stephen Lang y Matt Gerald forman el reparto de la esperadísima superproducción, que no veremos hasta el 18 de Diciembre.
