The J. Geils Band (pronounced “Guiles”) is an American rock band formed in 1967 in Worcester, Massachusetts . The band played R&B-influenced blues-rock in the 1970s before moving towards a more pop-influenced sound in the 1980s. Since their initial break-up in 1983, the band has reunited several times.

The band formed under the name ‘Snoopy and the Sopwith Camels’, while Geils was attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute for a couple of semesters. In 1967, the band switched focus, starting to play electric guitar and bass and recruiting drummer Stephen Jo Bladd and fast-talking ex-disc jockey singer Peter Wolf, born Peter Blankenfeld, both from Boston. They became the J. Geils Blues Band, later dropping the word, “Blues” from the band name. The following year, former fan Seth Justman joined as an organist. The group signed to Atlantic Records in 1970.

Although living in Boston, the band had always considered Detroit their second home because of their enormous popularity there. Two of their three live albums were recorded in Detroit at various venues. The third live album was recorded in Detroit and Boston.

The J. Geils Band first received FM radio airplay with the live single “First I Look at the Purse”, then had several hit singles in the 1970s, the most successful of which were a cover version of The Showstoppers’ “Ain’t Nothin’ But a Houseparty” (1973) and “Musta Got Lost” (1974). Later in the 1970s, the band signed with EMI America Records.

On August 17, 1971, at a show in the Boston Common, The Allman Brothers Band named The J. Geils Band as their favorite local band. Both bands later played the last show at the Fillmore East, before it closed. After their initial commercial successes the group seemed destined to be nothing more than a party band, until the release of Monkey Island (1977), followed by Sanctuary (1978).

In 2004, Geils produced the album Nail It! for Massachusetts-based blues/rock group The Installers (Francesca Records #1011). He has also been known to appear on stage with The Installers occasionally.

On May 22, 2006, the six original members had a surprise reunion, at bassist Danny Klein’s 60th birthday party at Scullers Jazz Club in Boston.

Magic Dick recently contributed his harmonica playing and some vocals as part of a live recording called Command Performance by the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Revue featuring The Tommy Castro Band, Deanna Bogart, Ronnie Baker Brooks, and others. Since 2007, he has toured as part of the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Revue on different Blues Cruises, and again on land-based shows. Peter Wolf toured with Kid Rock during the first half of 2008, and is finishing up on a new solo cd.

On February 19, 2009, the band reunited once again to perform the opening concert at the new House of Blues in Boston, Massachusetts on Lansdowne St. in Boston, (formerly the location of The Avalon, The Axis, The Embassy, and The Modern) with longtime associate Marty Richards filling in for original drummer Stephen Jo Bladd. Subsequently they played two shows on April 24 and 25 at Detroit’s Fillmore Theater (formerly State Theater). They also did a a second show on Landsdowne St. April 28. No tour is planned however.

Det skal ikke være lett. Har sinnsykt lyst på en ny jakke, og er lei av min fake skinnjakke fra H&M som glinser og ser ut som plastikk. Trenger også en blazer, og denne fra Urban Outfitters er nydelig. Ja, også trenger jeg en blazer i sort som ikke er i tweed. Får en grå blazer i posten snart, og jeg fortsetter å bruke penger. Klarer dog ikke helt å bestemme meg; jeg -trenger- ingen sort skinnjakke, men har veldig lyst på en ny, og spesielt denne. Blazeren må jeg ha, og planlegger å enten kjøpe den i Stockholm eller over nettet. Har litt angst for at den skal bli utsolgt, jeg vil haaaa. Valget står med andre ord mellom den “semskede” (regner med det ikke er ekte?) fra Cubus eller skinnjakken (i ekte skinn) fra laredoute. Innspill?

Pappa kjørte meg til skolen i seks-sju tiden i dag (1,5 time, gadd ikke å kjøre til hybelen etter jobb i går) og jeg er stuptrett. Når jeg kom hjem fra skolen så rommet mitt ut som en dass, selv om jeg vasket til helga, og jeg har ryddet og støvsugd i dag. Skal få drasset meg ned på butikken for å handle til middag. Har tatt bilder av støvlettene jeg kjøpte i helga, og jeg skal også vise dere den nye tlf min. Ja, jeg trengte virkelig en ny telefon, jeg har jo bare en iphone fra før.. At jeg i tillegg bestilte en ipod classic til nesten 2k, well, that makes sence too. lol. Nå skal jeg slutte å skrive om penger hele tiden, tror jeg. Haha. Ja, og sorry for stygt bilde.

1. hybelvertene lar oss ikke ha overnattingsbesøk eller besøk etter klokka 11. De er generelt nazi, og jeg og Kajn leter etter en ny hybel. Det skal ikke være lett.
2. jeg har laget et budsjett, og jeg går i minus. Skoletur i november, London i vinterferien, eventuelt Stockhom til våren og eventuelt Paris/London/New York eller noe annet i sommerferien + eventuell ipod sprenger sparekontoen, og jeg går i minus. Hjelp. Jeg trenger penger. Nå.
3. Gemma Ward gjør meg sint og sjalu. Hvorfor skal noen mennesker være så pene?
4. blir muligens en photoshoot denne uka, første på LENGE. Jeg blir stressa med tanke på å få ferdig portfølja.
5. vurderer å studere/flytte til London i stedet for New York. Vet egentlig ikke hva som fikk meg på tanken.

4. I’m considering moving/studying in London instead of New York. Dunno why I’ve changed my mind. London college of fashion/fashion photography sounds pretty good.
5. I’m sort of planning a photoshoot this week. Maybe. Looking forward to it since it’s a really looong time since I’ve actually taken som “serious” photos.

Det nærmer seg høst, og jeg trenger en ny jakke og/eller blazer. Jeg nekter å bruke bergansjakken min, og alle de andre billigjakkene jeg har ser gyselige ut. Jeg har, etter egne erfaringer, forstått at jeg ikke lenger skal bruke penger på salgsklær over alt. I går kastet jeg en stor pose med klær jeg ikke en gang har tatt av tagsene på, og tilsammen utgjorde de en stor sum med penger jeg kunne brukt på en fin jakke eller et annet plagg jeg faktisk har bruk for. Jeg lette etter en jakke i Køben, men fant ingen. Fra før har jeg én blazer fra Gina Tricot, og den ser egentlig bare ravete ut. Jeg har visa, topshop shipper til Norge, jeg har penger. Men samvittigheten svikter. Jeg tør ikke bruke 600 kroner på en av disse nydelige blazerne når jeg nettopp kom hjem fra Køben. Først må jeg kjøpe meg ny ekstern harddisk, converse, skjerf, hansker, skolesaker, diverse annet, sminke, strømpebukser og kanskje et par surte bukser. Oh lord, jeg er en mester i å kaste penger ut av vinduet.

I’m craving for one of these blazers! Autumn is on the way, and I haven’t got a jacket. This time I’m not going to buy a cheap jacket or blazer at H&M sale or Gina Tricot, because I’ve already experienced hating all my cheap (and ugly) clothes. Like yesterday, I threw a lot of clothes in the garbage – clothes I’ve never worn once. So I’ve got a visacard, topshop is finally shipping to Norway and I’ve got the money, and I can order one of these blazers. Why not? Because I’ve spend so much money in Copenhagen, and I’ve got a lot of other things to buy; converse, makeup, magazines, gloves, bags, scarfs, socks, underwear, tights and a new external harddisk. Oh lord, I love spending money..

The Queen of Pop publishes now a Greatest Hits album, which will be in stors  the 25th of September. In addition to all of their hits “Everybody” on “Express Yourself” to “4 Minutes” are also two new songs.

“Celebration” (in stors at the 4th of September), which is also the new Singel of the Pop Diva, is produced by DJ Paul Oakenfold!

With four simple words — “Give it to me!” — President Barack Obama took possession of the economy. For months, the White House and Obama’s economic team have laid the economic crisis at the feet of President George W. Bush. But there comes a point in a presidency when inheritance becomes ownership. Obama made that pivot this week in Michigan, the state suffering the worst unemployment in the nation.

“I love these folks who helped get us in this mess and then suddenly say, ‘Well, this is Obama’s economy,’” the president said, pointedly deviating from his prepared text. “That’s fine. Give it to me!”

It was a defiant moment, reminiscent of Bush’s own “Bring ‘em on!” taunt in 2003 to militants in Iraq.

Like Bush’s brash challenge, Obama’s could haunt him, too. It’s a calculated risk that confronts his critics head-on and casts him as an activist, on-the-job president.

“My job is to solve problems, not to stand on the sidelines and harp and gripe,” he said Tuesday, his sleeves rolled up, barely disguising his targets as congressional Republicans.

Jeg trenger hjelp – igjen. Jeg klarer virkelig ikke å bestemme meg, mye på grunn av prisforskjellen. Hvilke sko burde jeg kjøpe? Jeg har et par brune (!) høye converse fra før som jeg hater, og jeg har ønsket meg disse lave og hvite lenge. For ikke mange dagene/ukene siden fant jeg disse på H&M sin nettshop, og jeg vet virkelig ikke – hvilket par skal jeg kjøpe? Jeg har ikke råd til begge, grådig som jeg er. Trenger sårt begge to, og de fra H&M passer ser så fine ut, og hvis jeg kjøper de kan jeg ikke vente til de blir slitt.

Espen har dratt hjem, og jeg har vært en liten tur til Steinkjer. Prøver å spare/betale tilbake penger jeg skylder meg selv, og handlet derfor bare en marineinspirert genser for 30 kroner på salg. Nå skal jeg overføre penger til sparekontoen min (6700 kr to go) og ironisk nok sjekket jeg nettopp ut nettbutikken til H&M som jeg forsåvidt misliker. Fant disse skoene, og jeg har vanskeligheter med å tenke på annet. De koster bare 300 kroner, og jeg blir gal. Har egentlig planer om å kjøpe hvite, lave converse når jeg får penger, men vurderer faktisk å droppe det også fordi jeg ikke gidder å bruke 600 på sko.

Espen left today, and I went to the city. Didn’t spend much money; food and a basic sweater on sale. I’m planning to buy a pair of white low converse, but then I saw these shoes from H&M, and maybe I’ll change my plans. I looove them.
