I only have a few of the eyeshadow colours included in this collection, but I have to say that the packaging on this limited edition collection is one of my favourites so far. I almost bought things I knew I’d never use just for the pretty designs!

I love Bough Grey, it’s a great mossy grey/green colour that isn’t too overstated and blends well. It goes with either green or grey shades for a lovely smokey eye. So far I haven’t found much use for Give Me Liberty of London – it’s really pale pastel pink and I find it doesn’t show up well even with a base and is a bit chalky. This one may end up relegated to blending duty.

Neither swatch showed up very well in the photo below, even though I put it over UDPP and applied several layers. I did my best!

Give Me…not really.
Would I purchase again? Both are limited edition, so I likely won’t have the opportunity. I might re-purchase Bough Grey, but definitely not Give Me…

MAC cosmetics is the stuff addiction is made of. Not only are they high-quality, relatively affordable, and on-trend, they have this ongoing genius idea to do limited edition collections. And those collections are FABULOUS. As the MAC makeup artist cheekily suggested to me when I lamented the limited edition connundrum–”What if I fall in love with a limited edition item?”–”It’s a good excuse to buy two.” They have no problem selling out their limited editions, as I saw with their Disney collaboration this month, Venomous Villains. I got to the MAC store less than ONE WEEK after Venomous Villains came out, and they had already sold out several of the items. I got the last bottle of nail polish in the whole store (Formidable! nail polish–a teal green with pink multi-changing pearl) as well as the eye shadow Her Alter Image, a light violet shade similar to MAC’s Idol Eyes, which is my go-to violet, only it’s got more pigment to it.

For the holidays, MAC’s latest limited edition collection is A Tartan Tale. It’s like a trip to the Scottish Highlands. Now, for cute packaging, I think it comes up short. The kits, with several lip, eye, or face products to each, are adorable and perfect for gift-giving. They come in tartan with a MAC family crest.

The singles are much cuter in the Venomous Villains collection, or in last spring’s Give Me Liberty of London collaboration, which in my opinion was the best limited edition packaging ever. But I LOVE the eyeshadow itself in the Tartan collection. Because IT’S TARTAN.
SO CUTE. I just hope the tartan stripes go all the way through, and aren’t just imprinted on the top. I would want that look (even without the texture) to continue down to the bottom of the eyeshadow pan. So I’ll definitely be picking up one of those; probably the green Enviably Fun or the grey and blue Glamora Castle.

I’m also really liking the nail polish (pardon me, nail LACQUER) Sly as a Fox. A russet-red, I think it would be perfect for winter. It almost has an 80′s power broker/Working Girl vibe to it for me. But in a cool way.

MAC, why must you do this to me? Every time I say I’m done buying makeup, I have everything I need, they pull out something else. I’m such a sucker.
EDIT: After I posted this, I went and did my eye makeup. And I thought “I’ll do a my purple/lavender eye today!” And I realized that instead of Idol Eyes as my go-to violet, I meant Satellite Dreams. Whoops.

To kick off these Posteason Blues™, I’ve put on MAC Blue India (Give Me Liberty of London, Spring 2010), a greyed slate blue creme:

Picture taken in sunlight. This applied very well in two coats. I absolutely love this color! It looks deep and rich, yet still has a fresh quality. It was released for spring but it works well for fall, too. I haven’t been wearing much of this finish lately; there’s just something great about looking at a nice, smooth creme. And who doesn’t love the pretty bird on the bottle? I paired this with Sally Hansen Wet Cement (Xtreme Wear) on my toes.

I can’t believe that I hadn’t done this yet, but that’s what working my bum off all the time does for a girl! Here’s my look at what the year so far has been, along with what I bought and what I still use!

All Ages, All Races, All Sexes: January
What I Bought: Nothing
Verdict: At this time, funds were limited, and it wasn’t my sort of thing. NEXT!

MAC in Lillyland: January
What I Bought: Florida
What I Still Use: I actually use it from time to time, if I have time.
Verdict: This is one I could have gone crazy on-but I showed remarkable restraint. I think that the eyeshadow trio, the orange Cremeblend, and a couple Lipgelees could have also gone home with me as well. I think that it definitely did stay true to the brand aesthetic, but at the same time I would have loved some special packaging as well as a tote or something like that.

Spring Colour Forecast: 11 February
What I Bought: 2x Electric Fuschia, Kumquat, Stacked 1
What I Still Use: Stacked 1 and Electric Fuschia get frequent use. Kumquat? Not so much.
Verdict: This was so all over the place it wasn’t funny. Some things were awesome-blush ombres and Stacked pigments, anyone (Kicking myself over the blush ombres still). The lipglasses and eyeshadows, though, were subpar for the most part. I thought the concept was great, and it was better than having a branded collection because we’ve had quite a bit of that so far this year.

Riveting: February
What I Bought: 2x Metal Maven, Full Fuschia
What I Still Use: Both of them, although Metal Maven isn’t an everyday lippie for me.
Verdict: As small as this collection was, I think it was important as an antidote to the more commercially wearable collections that had plagued the counters and stores earlier in the year-have a few things that not everyone may like, but the makeup junkies like myself will because it represents an opportunity for some uniqueness in the collection.

Too Fabulous: March
What I Bought: Nada
Verdict: I dunno, I’m kinda over some of the Mineralize blushes. I’m fine with Nuance and Love Rock, but otherwise I’m skipping. And Cremesheen glasses-not my thing really.

Give Me Liberty of London: 11 March
What I Bought: Shell Pearl…and that’s it.
What I Still Use: Sadly, I forgot about this one completely.
Verdict: This was a great little collection, I loved the packaging-but it was so dupeable to me, and nothing really screamed “GET ME NOW!” besides Shell Pearl, which I did not already own. I had also been on overload between Riveting and Spring Colour Forecast, in addition to kinda being more financially limited, so I didn’t do much. Not really missing any of it, either.Viva Glam: Cyndi/Viva Glam: Gaga
What I Got: Nada
Verdict: First of all, if it has Lady Gaga attached to it I avoid it. The only exception was the Lippmann Bad Romance, and it was because I do nails for other people as well so it would be a very popular colour. The thing is, though…I’m very choosy with my lipstick shades, and these don’t appeal to me, as much as I love the whole charity aspect of the Viva Glams.

Art Supplies: April
What I Got: Industrial and Undercurrent
What I Still Use: Both of them, very frequently
Verdict: This was actually quite the interesting little collection! I wasn’t keen on the Greasepaint sticks, but a lot of people loved them. I used this as an opportunity to try out the Pearlglides, and I love them. Wish I had gotten more when Suite Array came out (the first batch of them), oh well. Don’t like lipstain particularly, but can we talk the Pearlglides again? Undercurrent is so fab, it’s replaced some Urban Decay liners.

Prep For Colour: April
What I Got: Nothing
Verdict: Eh, pass. Nothing interesting here. Moving on…

Pret-a-Papier: 22 April
What I Got: Nothing
Verdict: It was quite funny, as I had planned to buy quite a bit from this when it came out. However, after thinking about it and really looking at things, I passed and instead, I bought a new 15-pan and then a couple pans to go in there. This was a great collection, don’t get me wrong-but there wasn’t anything that really felt like I needed to have it.

Superglass: May
Verdict: I absolutely hated these. I love Dazzleglass, I love shimmer-but these were downright gaudy. The texture was so disgusting-I love flaky glitter in nail polish, but on the lips it felt uber gritty. The look was just tacky, which is why I avoided.

To The Beach: 27 May
What I Bought: Pink Rebel, Marine Life, Thrills, Flurry of Fun x2, Temperature Rising, Sweet & Punchy, Firecracker
What I Still Use: All of it, the lip stuff less so.
Verdict: Finally, a great and totally must-have collection. If there’s one thing I am regretting not getting, it is Hipness blush-but otherwise, this was totally up my alley. Lots of brights, and fun touches everywhere be it the heavy orange or the teal shimmer in Flurry of Fun. Marine Life is great, too, and since my Neo-Orange has been misplaced (probably left at church by accident) this suffices as a blusher.

I did not count the mascara launches, the pigment rollout, or things that were all repromotes (ie Tabloid Beauty). Of all of them, the only interesting thing was the pigment rollout-I love my Magenta Madness and Neo-Orange to death.

And as always, keep checking for more reviews. Hopefully I will have my stuff from the Nordstrom Sale soon-provided I can actually get over to the East Side to pick them up.

I’ve been a good girl, trying to stay away from spending too much of money on MAC. I’ve

I’ve been a good girl, trying to stay away from spending too much of money on MAC. I’ve skipped the earlier collections from this year, except for Too Fabulous. When I was in HK in Feb, I got myself Dirty Plum blush from Riveting collection. This collection wasn’t released in all countries, at least not in CZ.

Give Me Liberty of London was released on 1st April but I did not have time to check it out until Monday. I really like the design on the box packaging but not the actual packaging. The bird looks scary for me.

I only picked up Prim & Proper and Blooming Lovely. Prim & Proper is a beautiful nude blush. It looks really natural on my skin tone. A perfect everyday blush.

Blooming Lovely and Petals & Peacocks were the only lipsticks that really caught my eyes. When I first swatched Blooming Lovely, I thought it look kinda scary (I’m not used to any mauve colour lipsticks) but it’s a totally different colour when I tried it on my lips. It is ‘oh so pretty’. I wore it with Dirty Plum blush, a light highlight with Petticoat. The colours go so well together. Dirty Plum is a deep plum colour and may look really dark in the pan. I wasn’t sure about the colour until the cute MA at MAC counter at Faces tried it on me. You need to apply this blush with a very light hand because it’s really pigmented.

I brought my empties for B2M and got myself a Show Orchid lipstick. It’s another Amplified finish and yes, very pretty too! My lips are very pigmented and I can’t wear any nude lipsticks without scary people off. MAC’s Amplified lipsticks are my favourites. They’re creamy, not so shiny (I hate shiny lipsticks) and full of coverage.

I stopover in KL in Kuala Lumpur for 10hrs on my way home in Feb. I had to stop by at Make Up For Ever counter in KLCC to stock up some foundation and powder because we can’t get MUFE here! I bought a HD liquid foundation (in #188) and Super Matte Loose Powder. I wanted HD Microfinish Powder but they were out of stock. I later got that one in HK.

I’m a sucker for MAC Cremesheen Glass and I’m so happy they’ve finally made these items permanent (unfortunately my favourite shade isn’t). I found Petite Indulgence at Frankfurt International Airport. I was really excited *does a silly dance* because it’s my most favourite Cremesheen Glass shade! I’m on my second one now and only 1/3 is left in the tube. Now I’ve the backup for this one, am gonna use it sparely.

I went to SaSa almost everyday during my stay in HK. I always had this feeling I must get this and that. Here are some of the stuffs I bought from SaSa. The Kose masks which I’m yet to try and Shu Uemura were not from SaSa though. I also bought some falsies but have sent them to my sister.

I didn’t really spend that much on cosmetics and skin care on my trips this time because of that Damier Neverfull *lol* and those shoes I brought back.

Alright so so sorry. I’m back. And I have a ton of news for you.

Firstly I have decided to go to MUD, Makeup Designory, in Burbank in the fall!! Its an awesome small school for aspiring makeup artists. They teach you everything you need to know to work in the makeup industry, being thats in the in heart of movie making land.

Second….I’m a MARK. REP!!! Translation : I now will be able to offer you guys the best and latest trends in the makeup world of Mark. Mark is an Avon company that is geared towards young women/teens but not ONLY them. Everyone loves a cute compact or lipgloss. My site is avergara.mymarkstore.com and if you shop with me you get free shipping on your first visit with orders over $25! I will also be updating you on whats going on and updates on new products

Now to MAC. I just got the MAC Give me Liberty of London blush in “Prim & Proper” which is a nude/beige blush with a soft sheen to it. Its an amazingly natural looking blush that just kind of perks my face up without forcing me to look like I have blush on. I have red cheeks from acne so its nice to tone it down. Their entire collection list can be found at Temptalia.com . Everything is packaged in limited edition cases in white with either a bird or flower on top. In my opinion the plastic is better than the usual black plastic and the clear plastic with the design is raised from the white container. Its the Hello Kitty of the year but I am excited about “To the Beach” that comes out in like May I think.

Lastly, I am on acutane. After years of suffering from acne I have decided to put and end to it once and for all. Its going really well other than drying me out like crazy. I’ll update you for sure.

Its nice to blog real quick about my life and I will be sure to be back and tell you all the new and exciting things about Mark!!

love and lipgloss, -Alyx

In my opinion, it was about time that MAC did another collection with special packaging, and here we are! The whole motif of the collection is themed off of some artwork, but I don’t know the exact details. The packaging is white, with floral and bird motifs throughout. It’s not stickers (like Dame Edna) so there is some pretty good stuff around. It is quite repromote-heavy in some ways, but not in others.

On with the carnage, kiddos!

Eyeshadow: $14.50 (the packaging is white, with a flower on the lid)
Free To Be-Creamy true coral (matte, Permanent)
Give Me Liberty of London-Flat creamy pink (matte)
Dame’s Desire-Frosty midtone reddish purple (Frost, repromote Dame Edna)
Bough Grey-Midtone blue grey (Satin)
Birds & Berries-Frosted dark green-blue (Veluxe Pearl)

Lipstick: $14 (flowers on the cap, with the bird and more flowers on the bottom of the bullet)
Peachstock-Neutral peach (Satin, PRO)
Ever Hip-Creamy light coral (Cremesheen)
Blooming Lovely-Creamy light grey mauve (AC)
Petals & Peacocks-Creamy bright magenta pink (AC)

Lipglass: $14 (flowers on cap, bird/flowers on tube)
Frankly Fresh-Neutral soft pink-beige with pearl
Perennial High Style-Creamy bright pink-coral
English Accents-Creamy midtone blue-pink
A Different Groove-Deep purple brown with pearl

Powder Blush: $18.50 (bird/flowers on window)
Prim & Proper-Neutral nude (Matte)
Dirty Plum-Sheer dark plum (Matte, PRO)

Beauty Powder (yay!): $25 (EEK!) (flower/bird design on compact)
Shell Pearl-Pale peach with gold pearl (been repromoted countless times)
Summer Rose-Soft violet pink with pearl (Repromote Rose Romance)

Nail Lacquer: $12 (bird on bottle)
Blue India-Dark green blue with pearl (Cream)
Vestral White-Creamy white (Cream)

In addition, this collection has two sizes of the makeup bags (small $25, medium $30) as well as a $95 scarf. A little pricey, if you ask me, but whatever. So far, the only things really calling to me are Shell Pearl, Dirty Plum, Petals & Peacocks, and Birds & Berries. P&P could be skipped, because as much as I love packaging, I have four tubes of Show Orchid and I lost my ONE of Metal Maven, which I absolutely love. Seriously, silver lipstick=epic win. Most of the rest of this, though…not as much my personal taste. I can’t spend a ton on this collection anyways, so this is good.

STUNNING. That’s all I have to say about this.

Liberty-print fabric has long been a British staple, famous for its off-the-wall floral prints and bright colors. (I’m partial to Liberty fabric, as I have a J.Crew spring shirtdress in Liberty print from 2005 that I still love.) Nothing says spring like bursts of bright color woven into floral motifs. In a really daring yet obvious collaboration, Liberty has teamed up with MAC for an off-the-charts spring 2010 collection.

Full round-up & photos after the jump. The collection hits counters March 11.
