The rose above isn’t much to look at, but it is a rose, it is fragrant and the picture was taken Monday afternoon.  I’m not sure, but I think this is the latest in the year that we’ve had roses in bloom.

We obviously haven’t had a killing frost this autumn.  Yesterday we had to go to Knoxville fairly early in the morning.  The temperature when we left the house was 39° here at the house, but dropped to 32° before we got off the Plateau.

I’m not sure how much longer this weather will last, but I checked yesterday afternoon and we have three more reblooming iris and 19 rose buds ready to open.  I wonder how much longer we’ll be able to smell the roses?

Na primeira parte deste tutorial você viu como montar o ambiente de desenvolvimento necessário para criar o glossário, e definimos um dialeto CSV para ser usado ao ler e gravar os arquivos com os termos do glossário. Nessa parte, você verá como fazer o programa ler e gravar esses arquivos CSV.

Antes de escrever o código, é necessário conhecer as funções reader e writer do módulo CSV. Como o próprio nome diz, reader serve para ler o CSV. Ela recebe um dialeto e um objeto iterável contendo strings (como uma lista ou um arquivo) e retorna outro objeto iterável, dessa vez com os campos do CSV já separados de acordo com o dialeto. Exemplo:

reader = csv.reader(arquivo, dialect="excel")

No nosso caso, usar uma lista com os campos (termo e significado) não faz muito sentido, pois um dicionário com os termos como chaves, e os significados como seus valores, cumpriria bem melhor o papel. Assim, na hora de pesquisar um significado, basta chamar:

dicionario[termo]

E na hora de gravar ou criar um novo termo, basta chamar:

dicionario[termo] = significado

Mais na frente faremos algumas modificações no dicionário do Python (a tipo dict) para adaptá-lo melhor às necessidades de um glossário, mas por enquanto só precisamos de uma função que receba o caminho do arquivo CSV e retorne um dicionário comum. Veja o código da função.

Repare que quando há uma exceção IOError ao abrir o arquivo, caso ele exista, é lançada uma exceção do tipo ArquivosError, que nada mais é do que uma classe de exceção vazia. Classe de exceção é uma classe que herda da classe base para todas as exceções no Python, a Exception. Pra que criar uma classe de exceção vazia? Para organizar nosso programa e dar um tratamento especial a esses erros na interface gráfica. Veja o código da classe  ArquivosError.

O próximo passo é criar a função que vai gravar os novos termos e as alterações que foram feitas no glossário do arquivo a partir do qual ele foi carregado. Para isso, utilizaremos a função writer que, assim como reader, recebe um arquivo e um dialeto retornando um objeto com os métodos write e writerows. Write escreve um registro por vez, e writerows recebe um iterável e escreve cada registro dentro dele no arquivo. Exemplo:

O que precisamos no nosso módulo de arquivos, é uma função que receba um dicionário com os dados a serem gravados no arquivo, e receba um caminho de arquivo para gravar esses dados. Lembra quando eu disse que vamos criar um dicionário personalizado? Um dos recursos do nosso dicionário é que ele armazenará no atributo path uma string com o caminho do arquivo de onde ele foi lido, assim a nossa função de gravar só precisa receber o glossário, ou seja, o nosso dicionário especial. Veja o código da função.

Note que nas duas funções eu usei o módulo codecs para abrir os arquivos, e usei a “constante” CODIFICACAO para informar a função open(), a codificação do arquivo. O módulo codecs é uma mão na roda na hora de mexer com arquivos de texto, porque ele evita diversos problemas de codificação. Ao ler um arquivo, ele usa a codificação informada para converter o conteúdo em Unicode (uma espécie de codificação universal), e ao gravar ele transforma as strings Unicode de volta em strings codificadas, de forma transparente. Eu � Unicode.

Você pode atribuir a CODIFICACAO o charset que quiser (eu gosto de usar sempre utf-8). Basta que ao salvar o CSV em outros programas (como editores de planilha), você tenha o cuidado de usar sempre a mesma codificação para evitar que o texto apareça todo zoado no glossário.

Com essa parte do tutorial finalizamos o nosso módulo de ler arquivos. Veja aqui o código completo, comentado e documentado do módulo. Na próxima parte do tutorial, faremos o nosso “model” e mostrarei como personalizar o dicionário do Python, incluindo o atributo path e otras cositas más.

Glade

Betsy using the leaf blower in the back yard.

Betsy and I have definite responsibilities around the house.  I mow the lawn and Betsy sweeps the deck.  I dig the holes to plant the roses and Betsy cleans and fills the bird baths.  I have, on occasion, both swept the deck and taken care of the bird baths.  But there is one job I would never dream of taking from Betsy — using the leaf blower.

As you can see from the picture above, Betsy is a pro at using the leaf blower.  Once she fires that thing up the leaves don’t have a chance.  There’s rarely a stray left on the ground once she finishes.

The front yard is the hardest for us to do since we have to bag or carry away those leaves.  The back yard is much easier, so Betsy usually blows the other leaves in that direction.

And why is the back yard so much easier than the front yard?

The back yard is adjacent to the golf course and those nice maintenance men have some wonderful equipment.  I guess they are Betsy’s secret weapon.

Using one of the photos I took last winter and digitally altered, this week I created a series of products on zazzle. This digitally altered photo of a snowy sunlit forest glade covered in brambles at the bottom of a steep hill in picturesque Rainier, Oregon shows the winter sky glowing through the forest canopy in a golden haze of sunlit mist, causing the trees to fade off into the distance. I like the colors in this version of the photo better than the original– it has more of an ethereal fairytale-like atmosphere to it.

This week I created a series of products on Zazzle using my photo, Snowy Sunlit Forest Glade, in which a cold winters day hike through the snow towards Fox Creek in Rainier, Oregon reveals a pale blue winter sky seen through a stand of trees near the edge of a forest glade on the bottom of a sloping hill. Still attached to twigs and brambles autumn leaves appear golden in the sun like trail markers bordering a snowy path zig zagging across the hills an into the distance.

Blue skies over Fairfield Glade. November 2, 2009.

This is my post for Skywatch Friday, a meme for sharing views of the sky from all over the world.  To see more, or to join and share your own photos of the sky, click HERE.

When we are under the influence of a high pressure system, we’re treated to beautiful blue skies.  We have had clear blue skies for most of this week, as you can see from the picture above.

You will also see that many of the branches of the trees around our house are now bear.  That explains all the leaves that we’ve been contending with on the ground.

There wasn’t much of a breeze when I took this picture, but I still think that Old Glory against a blue sky is a beautiful sight.

Apricot Nectar Rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. November 4, 2009.

Betsy and I spent most of the afternoon trying to get some of the leaves out of our yard.  I like our house in the woods most of the time, but there are disadvantages in the autumn since all of the trees around the house lose their leaves.  Why couldn’t we have found a house surrounded by pine trees?

Actually, I shouldn’t complain.  The back of our house is on the the rough of the golf course and the golf course maintenance crews remove the leaves from the rough.  They will also remove any leaves we get from our back yard onto golf course property.  So we busily raked and blew leaves from our yard to the rough.  Since the houses above us have already done this, I’m sure the maintenance crews will be delighted when they get to this part of the course!

Even though it’s November, we still have roses in bloom.  I brought in two blossoms for Betsy Wednesday and there are a few more out in the yard.  I didn’t bring in Apricot Nectar, the rose in the picture above, although I may do so today.  I’m surprised that we haven’t had a frost yet.  The valleys on both sides of us have had frost, but so far we’ve been lucky.  I’m not sure how much longer that will last.

há ia me esquecendo a tela que desenhei no glade é super simples tem um caixa de texto que dei o nome de senha
um label que ira mostrar o resultado que dei o nome de resultado
e tem tbm 3 botoes,
um pra gerar a senha, outro com about só pra fazer uso das caixas de mensagens e tem tbm um botão pra sair do programa, qq duvida a respeito das telas me avisem, vou ver se coloca elas aqui tbm

Started at Walgreens…

Got a 6oz bottle of Lubriderm for $3.79 minus a $1 off from Walgreens and $2 off from the manufacturer (online print)… $.79 final price… Nice!

2 Theraflu daytime pills… $3.24 each minus $2 off from Walgreens and $2 off from the Manu… $1.52 money maker… Woot!!

Benydryl on clearance for $4.74 minus the Manu coupon for $1 off…

3 Almay products for $22.97 with $8 off from walgreens and a $5.00 register reward (RR) for my next trip…

Total at Walgreens was $20.22 and my reciept says I saved 31.25 plus I got the $5 RR and a $10 off $25 at fashion bug…

Then I went to Walmart… Took the benydryl and 2 almay products back and they put $22.03 on my gift card… Not my intention to make money like that, but…. It happened…

Then to Target to deal with an uber monster of a cashier… She was pissy because I had so many coupons but I made her suck it up…

I did another Degree deal… So the deodorant and body spray combo was $.58+tax

5 glade candle holders @2.50 each minus $2 each in Manu coupons… $2.50 plus a $5 gift card for free…

10 candle refills @ $2.50… I don’t think she rang the coupons right (think roughly $16 off) and 1 glade scented oil refill @ $2.50($1 off with a b1g1- any plug in warmer, so I chose the $2.99 on with a night light!!) and 4 glade candles @2.50 each ($3 off 4)… So 15 items meant $15 in gift cards…

Then I got 3 lasting impressions set-ups for $5.99 each… I had a $3 off and $2 off to stack but the cashier would not let me so I took them back promptly after I finished my purchases… $19.16 back on a gift card…

Summary: my target receipt says it charged my CC $34.04 for 27 items… I got $20 in gift cards and when I returned the 3 lasting impressions set-ups that made it $14.88 for 24 items and 39.16 on gift cards…

Out of pocket (oop): $34.04 + $20.22= $64.26

Ready for winter -- our woodpile. Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. November 2, 2009.

I finally finished stacking the wood that came while Betsy was in Maggie Valley.  The picture above shows our wood pile.  The wood on the right is what I’ve stacked this year.  We’ll burn that wood next year.  The pile on the left has been aging for a year and that is what we will burn this winter.  If you look at the foreground of the picture you will see lots of leaves.  Guess what we’ll be doing this week?

Full moon in the eastern sky. November 2, 2009.

Now that we’re back on standard time it gets dark early.  Monday we were coming home from Cookeville and had to stop at a grocery store to pick up a few things.  When we came out of the store we saw this full moon in the eastern sky.

As we headed home we came up over a hill and had this view of the western sky.  What a great way to end the day!

Pink Promise Rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. October 30, 2009.

One nice thing about living in Tennessee is that the growing season lasts longer than it does in Ohio.  Even though it is the end of October we still have roses in bloom at the house.

I took the picture of this beauty, Pink Promise, yesterday (Friday).  We have buds and blossoms on several other roses as well.  I hope we can enjoy them  before we get our first frost.

Autumn color in the Glade. October 29, 2009.

Yesterday (Wednesday) was a busy day for us.  We made our weekly trip to town to do the grocery shopping and to help rescue the economy.  It was cloudy while we were in town.

On the way back home we noticed blue sky peeking between the clouds.  By afternoon, when I was out stacking wood, the sky was clear.  I noticed the sunlight on the trees behind our house and had to go get my camera.

At this rate it may take longer than planned to get that wood stacked!

Our side yard, Fairfield Glade. October 23, 2009.

I’ve always felt that I was pretty good at handling life’s little setbacks and disappointments.  I thought I could handle any adversity, but I’m beginning to have second thoughts.

As you know, Betsy is in Maggie Valley, North Carolina, with her childhood girlfriends.  She didn’t want me to be bored while she was gone, so she left me with a fairly extensive ‘honey-do’ list.  The two biggest items on the list were mowing the lawn (and picking up the leaves) and stacking the firewood that we were expecting to be delivered.

I finished the lawn on Thursday and it looked pretty good, if I do say so myself.  And just before it got dark on Thursday, the firewood was delivered and dumped in the side yard.

Unfortunately wood wasn’t the only thing that came Thursday.  Thursday night brought high winds and rain which continued off and on until Friday afternoon.  When the rain finally ended I went out, picked up the many branches that had fallen  during the storm, and faced my dilemma.

As you can see from the picture above there is a lot of wood to be stacked, and there also a lot of leaves on the ground.  There’s more wood than I can stack in a single day and the leaves are wet, so it’s going to take more than a day to clean them all up.

So the question — is do I have the necessary courage to face Betsy with an incomplete ‘honey-do list’?  What do you think her reaction will be?  Do you think I’ll end up in the dog house?  Would it do any good to ask Betsy to extend her vacation so I have more time to finish the list?
