I am finally out of this winter thing. Actually what pushed me out of it was a visit to a store.

The neon busy graphics, bold name, and sort of grunge kitty “feel” of Ivey Deschanel’s store always made me think perhaps it wasn’t a place for me. I just don’t do that sort of grunge neko thing very well. However, I went in the other day and found that Ivey does a little more than sassy kitty clothing, and I liked what I saw.

This outfit from Ivey is glam and sexy and elegant all at once. The elaborate textures in the pants, as if burnt into a velvet, accentuate my long legs and curves with the sculpties that bottom out the legs in a flare. The jacket has a great bolero cut with a tied front—very modern and urban. But the sleeves, made of sculpties, have that decadent featheriness (without the cliched PS fur that everyone else uses) that makes this outfit truly glam. The rich depth of the top with its hand-drawn wrinkles and sexy low-cut back (shown here without the jacket) create a slinky and sensuous camisole. The look is complete and whole and ideal. Ivey’s system piece work is clean and well-done with great seams and edges. Her textures in this outfit are delicious.

Sachi Vixen has long been making skins, but her Portia line is a recent addition that once again displays her fine talents as an artist. I especially like the eye makeup on this skin with its subtle rainbow hues, entirely appropriate for an elegant glam girl—not over the top but pushing the edge. And her sexy décolletage is not over the top. I just don’t need to look like I am “enhanced.”

So I just discovered the wonders of Polyvore, but was dismayed to find that I would need to upgrade

So I just discovered the wonders of Polyvore, but was dismayed to find that I would need to upgrade to Plus on Livejournal to be able to upload pictures. Then I remembered–I have a WordPress! Lo and behold, WordPress allows me to upload pictures. We are now friends again. Here’s my first few Polyvore sets, both inspired by Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl.

Prep School Madness

Blouse (H&M, $), Skirt (topshop.com), Shoes (rupertsanderson.co.uk), Headband (net-a-porter.com), Tights (modcloth.com)

This outfit is a play on Blair’s prep school uniform with its feminine, classic look. I repeated the black detail on the blouse with the cream pumps and added a beautiful silver headband, since I adore headbands.

A Night at the Met

Dress (Herve Leger, net-a-porter.com), Cardigan (farfetch.com), Trench Coat (Burberry, net-a-porter.com), Shoes (Giuseppe Zanotti, chickdowntown.com), Clutch (Treesje Mortale, endless.com), Necklace (By Malene Birger, net-a-porter.com)

This is a more glam, rather than feminine outfit. I tend to fall in a rut of picking the same old ruffley blouses and safe skirts, so this was a challenge to myself to mix it up by picking things I wouldn’t normally pick. The Herve Leger dress was what inspired me to create the outfit in the first place. I knew I needed a cardigan to cover up skin, and I thought this dark pewter color complemented the gold in the dress so nicely. Since it is fall, I needed a coat, and what better coat than a classic, form-flattering trench? The necklace and shoes were extra touches to give the outfit even more shine.

So what do you think? Would you read more of these articles?

Genero: Hard Rock / Glam Rock

Subido a: Rapidshare, megaupload, filefactory, etc.

From The Jaws Of Victory’.

El llamado: ‘All I Gotta Do’

NEW YORK (AP) — Adam Lambert’s racy American Music Awards performance cost him a gig on

NEW YORK (AP) — Adam Lambert’s racy American Music Awards performance cost him a gig on “Good Morning America,” but he will perform live instead on ABC’s morning rivals at CBS.

Lambert was to sing Wednesday on “GMA,” but the network said Tuesday it was canceling the openly gay singer because “we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning.”

While singing his new song, “For Your Entertainment,” at the awards program on Sunday, Lambert kissed a male keyboardist, fondled a dancer and had another dancer briefly stuff his face in Lambert’s crotch. The performance prompted many complaints to ABC, and the network cut out the brief oral sex simulation for its West Coast broadcasts.

“Obviously, I respect their decision — they gotta do what they gotta do,” Lambert said Tuesday in an interview with Ryan Seacrest. “It’s too bad — I think there were a lot of fans who were excited to come see me.

“They probably had a lot of pressure coming at them from certain people who weren’t happy about it,” he said.

ABC News’ top management made the decision to cancel Lambert, spokeswoman Cathie Levine said. She said there was no pressure from the parent Walt Disney Co.

While women have often crossed the threshold regarding sexually provocative appearances on television — think Madonna kissing Britney Spears — Lambert’s performance was perhaps the first time it has been done by an openly gay man. The singer said before Sunday’s show that he was hoping to accomplish just that.

“There are a lot of double standards as far as that goes,” Lambert said backstage, a few days before the awards show. “We’ve seen female pop and rock performers do that for the last 10 years. They’ve been very provocative, owning their power and sexuality. You just don’t see men doing it very often. And I’m hoping to break down that double standard with this number.”

Said Alicia Keys when asked about Lambert’s performance, “I don’t know. You make different choices as a performer. It’s all about opinion. It’s all about what works for the performer.”

ABC said it felt burned because Lambert went further on the air with sexuality than he did in rehearsals — including the kiss. But the man putting his face to Lambert’s crotch was included in a rehearsal, according to an Associated Press reporter who attended the rehearsal. It was that sort of unpredictability that bothered ABC, particularly on a morning show with many young viewers watching.

Shortly after ABC’s cancellation, CBS quickly announced Tuesday that Lambert would appear on “The Early Show” Wednesday morning both to perform and discuss the reaction to Sunday’s appearance. Lambert is also appearing on David Letterman’s “Late Show” Wednesday, which was scheduled weeks ago.

The morning news ratings leader, NBC’s “Today” show, did not consider Lambert because it already has a Bon Jovi concert scheduled for Wednesday, said its executive producer, Jim Bell.

The “Good Morning America” Web site was flooded with comments from viewers about the Lambert cancellation. Some applauded ABC for taking a stand against vulgarity, while others suggested the network was being homophobic.

The glam rocker finished second on “American Idol” this spring. His performances on the reality singing contest were not as provocative, but he was among the show’s most colorful competitors with a voice compared to Queen’s Freddie Mercury. After the competition, he came out publicly as gay.

“For Your Entertainment” is the first single from Lambert’s new album, which went on sale Monday.

The “Good Morning America” cancellation was first reported on TVNewser and Hollywood Life Web sites.

I’m no expert at Sorority Life but I REALLY try!

So, I hear a lot of questions about how to get brownie points.

Let’s get to it then.

1. You could buy them.

I admit, I have done this. It was a short lived thrill. But let’s face it, we have better things to spend our hard earned money on!

2. You could Level up as fast as possible

This is a good way, especially since most are leveling up fairly quickly anyway. The only problem is leveling up takes longer and longer to accomplish as you become higher levels. So pay attention to what you are spending your points on if this is your sole method.

3. Socialize your Way to Brownie point heaven

This is just like the leveling up, they become harder and harder to obtain. The basis is, you pay attention to the ‘Expertise’ level you are at on each event. Certain events give you brownie points as you level up.

4. Complete offers and trails on the House Mom tab

Joy. All I need is more junk mail, right? Personally, the only one I did was the Netflix one. I am a fan of netflix so making a new account and getting a ton of brownie points was win-win, and I didn’t have to pay anything. I did the yahoopersonals one too, but canceled as soon as my points cleared.

Pay VERY strict attention to the fine print and cancellation procedures for these offers. They tend to get tricky and sticky.

The only thing I can recommend is to spend your time and your money wisely. If I had to choose between the featured item for Glam and playing the Homecoming gala 8 times…I’ma choose Homecoming Gala. Sure, one of those items might be a Prius, but last time I got 5 Jets…pretty good deal, eh?

Hello, all. Here’s the November 2009 Mix. This one’s a pretty schizophrenic mix, mostly

Hello, all. Here’s the November 2009 Mix. This one’s a pretty schizophrenic mix, mostly due to all the free time that I’ve had to investigate new music recently (actually, old music that’s new to me). It’s starts off with the first track, “Military Madness”, Graham Nash’s first solo album. Thanks to my friend Kyle for talking me into giving that record a real listen. I’m generally allergic to anything slightly David Crosby-related, and, admittedly, rather prone to jumping to conclusions.

There’s some new discoveries on here that are really revelatory. Well, they are to me, at least. Hank Ballard’s “Sexy Ways” is a racy and fun doo-wop number that most people of my generation aren’t likely to recognize. Apparently, James Brown was a Ballard devotee, and credited him with many of the idiosyncratic vocal traits that Brown later made his name on. LaVern Baker and Johnny Ace are also new treats of pre-60’s soulful R&B for me. Ace having one of the more tragic, and interesting backstories in rock n’ roll. Really, Google it!

The Jawbox, Home, and Eric’s Trip tracks are old favorites of mine from my exclusively indie-rawk highschool years. Additionally, about once every year I go through a mini-John Cale phase, and “I Keep a Close Watch” is a powerful enough ballad to get you hooked as well. I’ve been arguing for a while that his post-Velvets records are far and away superior to Lou Reed’s output. Any opinions on that? I love to hear any comments, compliments, or even negative muckraking. Again, thanks for reading and listening. Enjoy! (Download Slow, Slow Music’s November 2009 Mix.)

On this day in 1975, David Bowie performed the now classic song “Fame” on the Cher Show.

“Fame” came about through Bowie’s friendship with John Lennon was inspired by Lennon’s complaints about the celebrity life. Bowie even gave Lennon a writing credit, acknowledging that the seed of the song came from Lennon’s chants of the word “Fame” over guitar bit that Bowie guitarist Carlos Alomar was riffing on.

Here’s a video of a some dude giving us a fantasy performance of Bowie and Lennon. Not a cover; more of a lip-sync.

“Fame” was included on the Young Americans album and was released as the second single from that album. It quickly shot to number one on the U.S. charts and has been covered many times.

’80s glam pop superstars, Duran Duran

Motley Crue’s (please forgive those darn missing umlats) Tommy Lee

Finally, uber-has-been Vanilla Ice sampled it for his Mindblowing album. (Yeah, I know. It’s not a cover. But still, could you ignore the Ice Man?!)

And none of them have the same cool detachment of the original.

L.A. Guns – L.A. Guns (1988, PolyGram Records/Vertigo Records)

2. “Sex Action” … 3:42
3. “One More Reason” … 3:07
4. “Electric Gypsy” … 3:25
5. “Nothing To Lose” … 4:14
6. “Bitch Is Back” … 2:53
7. “Cry No More” … 1:18
8. “One Way Ticket” … 4:20
9. “Hollywood Tease” … 2:52
10. “Shoot For Thrills” … 4:30
11. “Down In The City” … 3:56

Band:
Phil Lewis – Lead Vocals
Tracii Guns – Lead Guitar
Mick Cripps – Rhythm Guitar, Keyboards, Backing Vocals
Kelly Nickels – Bass, Harmonica, Whistle, Backing Vocals
Steve Riley – Drums (credited but did not play)

Additional Musicians:
Nickey “Beat” Alexander – Drums
Alan Jones – Sax
Paul Kaufman – Washboard

Producer: Jim Faraci

I’ve seen some critics call L.A. Guns a combination of Guns N’ Roses and Poison. That’s a pretty good description of them, though I think there’s a dash of Motley Crue as well. The Guns have always seemed to straddle the line between the seedy, sleazy life that GNR wrote about and the sex & party world of glam metal poster boys Poison. It makes for some good rock ‘n’ roll and L.A. Guns have never fully gotten the respect, success and credit that they should have despite having two platinum albums in their catalog (this one and Cocked & Loaded)… They should’ve sold more!

Anyway, this a really good debut. Phil Lewis rocks, guitars are great (Tracii also does not get the respect he should), there’s plenty of sleaze and fun for everyone! But the band has a softer side — there’s “Cry No More”, a pretty instrumental, to break up the album and it leads into the ballad “One Way Ticket”.

“Sex Action” was a small hit for the band, but I tend to think that’s an overrated song. It’s a good song, but I’ve often seen it mentioned as a LAG fave but I think there’s plenty of other songs here that overshadow it. “One More Reason” is my favorite from the disc. Cocked & Loaded is regarded as the quintessential L.A. Guns release. That album is a bit more catchy and melodic, but this one is heavier. I like them both equally.

Original LAG drummer Nicky “Beat” Alexander played on the album, but it was Steve Riley (coming over from W.A.S.P.) who got the album credit and his face in the band photo as he joined the band just before the album was released. Most of these songs were written with L.A. Guns’ previous singer Paul Black. Maybe that’s why Phil was able to get “Hollywood Tease” (from his previous band Girl) on the album?

Picked this up online for about $6. Definitely worth the cash. The cover is really cool too — you’ve got guns, a skull and a Hollywood night in the background. The art was done by Tyler. I wonder if he’s ever done anything else in the hair metal arena?

Highlights: “No Mercy”, “Sex Action”, “One More Reason”, “Electric Gypsy”, “One Way Ticket”, “Shoot For Thrills”

Endeverafter – Kiss or Kill (2007, Razor & Tie Records)

1. “I Wanna Be Your Man” … 3:06
8. “All Night” … 3:35
9. “Slave” … 3:44
10. “From the Ashes of Sin” … 4:09
11. “Long Way Home” … 6:14

Band:
Michael Grant – Lead Vocals, Lead Guitar
Kristan Mallory – Guitar
Tommi Andrews – Bass
Eric Humbert – Drums

Additional Musicians:
Butch Walker, Grace Sims, Tom Jane, Azeron, Skye Nicolas – Backing Vocals
Jessica Catron – Cello

Producer: Stacy Jones with Bill Lefler

Here’s a strange album for ya! Endeverafter are a fairly recent band that seems be torn as to what kind of rock that they want to play. Are they the next Fall Out Boy? Do they want to be the next generation of pop metal? Or would they rather play nu-metal or NWOBHM or post-grunge? Well, they aren’t sure yet and neither am I because this album waffles more than John Kerry, but I’ll get back to you as soon as they decide!

Don’t let the band’s looks and touring credentials fool you either — sure, they have opened for KISS, Poison and Cinderella but I have no idea what songs they would have played to win over those types of crowds when sound their sound has much more in common with Fall Out Boy than the previously mentioned bands. In addition to that, they’ve performed on ’80s rock packages like Motley Cruise and ShipRocked which makes their primary choice of music even more puzzling.

FOB is one of the worst bands to come out in the past decade. I have heard a lot of their stuff and it’s terrible and they’ve spawned countless (and equally terrible) copycat bands. The songs here with the FOB are just as bad as the real thing. Now, they did try to spice things up a bit. It’s not all alt rock/pop. A handful of songs break out of alt. rock/pop mode and get a bit heavy or at least bit more spirited than the majority of the album.

There is potential here. The band is totally Michael Grant’s show. He wrote all of the music and lyrics. He sounds way too much like Patrick Stump, but I hear bits of good hair metal (and good metal in general) within some of these songs. He just needs to decide what kind of band Endeverafter is. It’s too bad American Hi-Fi’s Stacy Jones, as producer, couldn’t straighten these young chaps out and tell them to pick a sub-genre and stick with it.

I totally took a chance on this band. Classic Rock magazine was hyping them up as the second coming of Poison and Motley Crue and that’s just not the case at all. Hm… Do you think it has anything to do with the band’s UK label being the Classic Rock-owned Powerage Records? Shame on you, CR!

Luckily, the album can be found fairly cheap so it wasn’t a huge loss. I would be interested in new music from this band, but I’d have to hear some samples first before buying.

Highlights: “I Wanna Be Your Man”, “Baby Baby Baby”, “Poison”, “From the Ashes of Sin”
