Out of the Ashes

This lovely and evocative outfit from Stylissimo is called Out of the Ashes – and of course, you can see the small red flame bursting out of the gray ashes of the gauzy moire top. Several designers produce these gathered sculptie tops – their RL counterparts being quite fashionable at the moment. Most however, show less restraint and our form is lost in an explosion of gathers and poufs. Here, using fewer pieces, the sculpts contour to the shape beautifully and remain feminine and flattering.

More restraint is shown in the skirt – a straight heavy silk in a darker gray – evoking the colder ashes at the base of the fire.

I wanted detail and precision in the accessories to counter the exuberance of the top so I chose the Glanz heart seam stocking by Haruka Kish – their precise line matched by the diamante embellishment in the WISH shoes.

The Ruby Red Necklace and Earrings from Eclectica and the Jazz Funeral bracelet in Merlot from Balderdash are dainty jewelry accents. The hairstyle is Darla by Ali & Alli, though I tinted it to the red I prefer. The skin is from PXL Creations – July – and my favorite.

Eine besonders charakteristische – und für Diamanten die mit Abstand häufigste – Schliffform ist der Brillantschliff. Seine Merkmale sind mindestens 32 Facetten und die Tafel im Oberteil, eine kreisrunde Rundiste, sowie mindestens 24 Facetten im Unterteil. Nur derartig geschliffene Diamanten dürfen als Brillanten bezeichnet werden. Zusätzliche Angaben wie echt oder ähnliche sind dabei nicht erlaubt, da irreführend. Zwar ist es möglich – und auch nicht unüblich – andere Edelsteine oder Imitate im Brillantschliff zu verarbeiten, diese müssen dann aber eindeutig bezeichnet sein, zum Beispiel als Zirkonia mit Brillantschliff.

Ein Diamant hat eine sehr hohe Lichtbrechung und einen starken Glanz, gepaart mit einer auffallenden Dispersion, weshalb er traditionell als Edelstein geschliffen wird. Erst durch die Erfindung moderner Schliffe im 20. Jahrhundert, durch die das Feuer eines Diamanten erst richtig zur Geltung kommt, wurde sein wahrer Wert offenbar. Es beruht auf zahllosen inneren Lichtreflexionen, die durch den sorgfältigen Schliff der einzelnen Facetten hervorgerufen werden, welche in speziell gewählten Winkelverhältnissen zueinander stehen müssen.

Mittlerweile werden Schliffe und deren Wirkung auf Rechnern simuliert und die Steine auf Automaten geschliffen, um über eine exakte Ausführung optimale Ergebnisse zu erreichen. Nur ein Viertel aller Diamanten ist qualitativ überhaupt als Schmuckstein geeignet. Davon wiederum erfüllt nur ein kleiner Bruchteil die Kriterien, die heute an Schmucksteine gestellt werden: Ausreichende Größe, geeignete Form, hohe Reinheit, und je nach Wunsch Farbigkeit oder Farblosigkeit.

Kriterien zur Erkennung eines Diamanten sind seine Dichte, Härte, Wärmeleitfähigkeit, Glanz, Lichtstreuung oder Dispersion, Lichtbrechung oder Refraktion sowie Art und Ausbildung vorhandener Einschlüsse. Ein weiteres wichtiges Unterscheidungsinstrument zwischen naturfarbenen und künstlich gefärbten Diamanten liegt in der Absorptions-Spektroskopie.

Diamanten kommen in verschiedenen Farben und Schattierungen vor, unter Anderem gelb, braun, rot, blau. Die Farben beruhen hauptsächlich auf Einbau von Fremdelementen (z. B. Stickstoff oder Bor) im Kohlenstoffgitter des natürlichen Diamanten.

Apologies to all Dolly Mixtures readers for my absence over the Summer. I’ve been away travelling and since my return have been fully occupied with RL. Sugar Daddy’s family came to visit from the US for a month and we had a wonderful time showing them all that Britain has to offer. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time for blogging or any SL playtime for that matter so Dolly didn’t join me on our adventures. However, if had she been with me, I know she would have worn the outfits I’m going to showcase in my series of next 3 posts. Today, I will be your guide to Edinburgh; so please “Suivez-moi!”.

Edinburgh is a fantastic city charmed with character, whiffing of whiskey, and tarted up with tartan! Scotland is renowned for wet weather and it’s no exaggeration when I say that I’ve never seen such heavy downpours as we experienced during our visit. However, it all seemed to add to the novelty value for our visitors and Edinburgh proved to be their most favourite of all the places we visited in Britain.

Dolly’s top 5 suggestions for things to do in Edinburgh:

1. Eat Haggis, Neeps and Tatties with Whiskey Cream Sauce at The Last Drop Tavern in Edinburgh’s historical Grassmarket.

2. Take a tour around The Real Mary King’s Close, a forgotten street from the 17th Century recently discovered buried beneath the Royal Mile.

3. Walk the Royal Mile from Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood Palace and the controversially design Scottish Parliament Building.

4. See the Scottish Crown Jewels and St Margaret’s Chapel (built in 1130 and Edinburgh’s oldest building) at the City’s most famous tourist attraction, Edinburgh Castle.

5. Shop ’til you drop in Edinburgh’s busiest shopping district, Princes Street.

I love scripted items and lately designers seem to be offering us more of them and with multi-component scripting giving more flexibility to co-ordinate and create new looks.
