Taeyeon recently went to her parents’ optical shop. By the looks of it, Taeyeon is getting another pair of glasses. Even though the person who took these pictures has a creepster status, yay for catching the little kid leader there. It’s really sweet of her to visit her parents despite her busy schedule.

i recieved my first christmas present yesterday, a whole month before the big day! my dear friend kat malmstrom, an amazing photographer i have the privilege of working with regularly, gave me these adorable iittala tsaikka glasses, which she spotted in a stockholm antiques shop.

designed by timo sarpaneva in 1957, these glasses were all the range in sweden during the 1960’s, and are the perfect vessels for moraccan mint tea, accompanied by pistashio and walnut-stuffed dates. yummy!

LASIK surgery involves making a corneal flap which is thin and delicate. It is positioned properly at the time of the LASIK procedure but care must be taken that it is not dislodged or moved during the initial healing period. This is accomplished by both instructing the patient not to rub their eyes, providing proper lubrication drops so that the flap does not stick to the eyelid during blinks, and proper eye protection especially while sleeping.

Most LASIK centers give patients specific written and verbal instruction to avoid any problems with the corneal flap. This is also verified by an examination post procedure before the patient leaves our center to be sure that the flap is not wrinkled or dislodged. Another exam is performed the next day for a similar purpose as well as checking on the visual recovery and other aspects of healing.

The eyes should be protected from both trauma and bright sunlight which is accomplished with sunglasses, usually dispensed at the time of the procedure, and night goggles for the first few nights, especially for patients who are likely to rub their eyes at night.

Another important aspect of care is using the medicated drops dispensed or prescribed at the time of LASIK. These are antibiotics to prevent the rare chance of infection, anti-inflammatory drops to soothe and aid healing, and lubrication drops since the eyes may be temporarily dryer than normal.

It is also important to keep the scheduled post operative appointments so that the doctor can verify the progress being made, especially the first few visits.

Longer term, the eyes heal well and it is unlikely to have any problems after 3-6 months but it is always a good idea to protect the eyes from severe trauma whether one had LASIK or not.

Many people assume that a china cabinet can and should only be used to store precious china or other tableware.  However, these people would be very wrong.  Just like a curio cabinet, a china cabinet can be used to display any number of valuable collectable items.

Many people will use a china cabinet to display their favorite shot glasses or beer steins they collected while on vacation in Germany.  Additionally, other people often use china cabinets to store photo frames of family members or books or other valuable documents.

Regardless of what a person choose to store in these cabinets, the mirrored backs and built in lighting always produces a dramatic effect.  Many people often compare it to feeling like they are in a museum looking at precious artifacts.

I loved the Mr. Men and Little Miss books as a kid, so I was excited when Dr. Holser at Advanced Eye Care in Grand Rapids posted a video of the three characters from that series that wear glasses (Little Miss Whoops, Mr. Persnickety, and Mr. Nervous) doing a glasses are cool rap.

But after watching it, I was a bit less excited.  It’s pretty catchy and funny, and I’m all for songs and characters that portray glasses positively.  But with the refrain of “four eyes are better than one”, and a scene of one of the glasses guys (Mr. Persnickety) fighting a pirate with an eye patch, and winning, I think this is not a good video for encouraging patching, which is really too bad.  At first, I thought perhaps the characters were targeted at an older group, that is less likely to be patching, but according to the Mr Men Show website, the show is targeted at kids age 4-7, which is when a lot of patching for amblyopia happens.  And the more I think about it, the less I like that the personalities of the characters that wear glasses feel a bit stereotypical, but I could very well be overly sensitive.
