2 hours backwards from the origin point. Changed foggy day in Belgrade for the lovely one in London.

2 hours backwards from the origin point.

Changed foggy day in Belgrade for the lovely one in London.

Room micro-small and slightly chaotic, after I put all my stuff, creams, make-up, perfumes, sunglasses, newspapers, phones [unbearably quiet]… Coffee seduces with its smell…

Ugly yellow ants are coming somewhere out of my laptop. They obviously changed it for a shelter in my mum’s apartment. A whole colony. The ecosystem is ruined.

My eyes are painfully red. Just walked in the wind, through the Covent Garden, Soho streets and around, among millions of people.

Started drinking my coffee now.

The day is calming down, after being a whole interesting mess.

Welcomed at the plane by the two elder people – man going further to Chicago and a woman, going all the way down to Orlando. Sitting between them, I was linking the conversation. It was fun. They didn’t want to talk to themselves, only to me. Even when we all were making crazy jokes while the plane was endlessly circling above London. I really liked them.

And when we finally touched the ground, the craziest taxi driver in the world took me at the airport. Again – old, fat and slow. He told me the approximate price of the drive and I said that it is the exact amount I have. He said ok. And started driving me through the streets of London. Up, down and around.. It’s a beautiful day, he had to be thinking.. Why not to show the glow and glory of my town…

I owed him 5 pounds more when he became tired of driving in the crowd and I told him to wait 5 minutes till I change the money at the hotel. He said ok – again – had a small fight with a porter [an interesting man with a big black hat] who’s gonna take my luggage, and left… Without his 5 pounds and leaving me without the receipt.

Tired.
Each day has its own repetition rule.

I found this small case in a local antique/junk market for a few pounds. It’s a Globe-Trotter Original. It’s rare to find a second-hand one, and if you do they’re generally quite expensive. The company has been making it’s vulcanised fibre luggage since 1897. I was working with the licensee for Globe-Trotter in 1997, the company’s centenary year, and so was exposed to these wonderful cases then. The company has introduced new designs and features over the years, but the classic ‘Original’ remains in the range. This case is no more than vulcanised fibre panels riveted together with two locks and a handle, that’s it, not even an inside pocket. Beautifully simple. This one’s too small to travel with, more of a briefcase size, so it’s used to store small goods reference samples. It’s in the studio right now as I’m looking at examples of stitching for a current project (see final image). www.globe-trotterltd.com

In USA I found few new things. Pandora [not available in Europe, partially replaced with some other

In USA I found few new things. Pandora [not available in Europe, partially replaced with some other music sites], Elizabeth Arden – Prevage collection [available in Europe too] and friends – irreplaceable.

Pandora offered me some fresh, creative music. And I really miss it. Prevage changed my look as a “magic wand” for wrinkles. But this friendship connected my Europe with my US and made connections to all other parts of the world. And took me to the wonderful trip in July.

I walked the same steps as U2 on their tour – only I did it vice versa.. I was in US first, they went there after. We met at the middle, in Dublin. Not exactly met, cause I missed the show, but on the same day I was on the streets of Dublin with my friends, who were passionate about this gig. It gave us only an idea to meet in Dublin (and me, a stamp in the passport, approval that I was going to see the concert – all the way down from Serbia! – very very polite and nice people), all at one place.

Ireland impressed me with the beautiful landscape, open and pleasant people always ready to help, Dublin – with a lack of colors (I like all those different shades of brown and gray) and must say, its street fashion. What I saw there is totally unique. Colorshow – a word to best describe it. Not seen in any of the fashion magazines sell in the shops around. All-age-ladies with fluorescent mini skirts (yellow, pink, saw green too) and leg warmers, but it vary (from high heels shoes to little and big boots). To compensate lack of colors in the city, I guess. A friend told me, but unfortunately I missed the pajamas fashion revolution during this winter.. Girls seen in pajamas in the shopping malls, on the streets, wearing furry vests above… Original.

But the most important thing which I learnt from the trip to Dublin is that there is always ‘a middle’. Showing only a good will, you can meet everyone, from Japan or US, ’somewhere in the middle’.

So, this Saturday I popped into Edinburgh for a rummage through Morningside’s vast array of charity shops to see if I could pick up some goods to begin experimenting with. I found some nice bags & a lovely leather journal, but my favourite item is an old Globe-Trotter suitcase which I unearthed in a Shelter charity shop.

This beautiful original navy suitcase is a bit worn at the edges & is missing a key, but is fabulous none-the-less: Perfect for printing onto, as well as storing / transporting my stock in! & it didn’t take long before the dogs discovered another use for my new purchase…

Friday night consisted of eating and eating and eating at Susan Feniger’s new restaurant calle

Friday night consisted of eating and eating and eating at Susan Feniger’s new restaurant called STREET.
I made a reservation two weeks in advance on opentable and thank goodness I did, because by the time we arrived, the restaurant was bursting at the seams with a line almost out the door at 8:30pm. For those who didn’t plan ahead, the wait was a minimum of 45 minutes.

We ordered drinks at the bar while our table was being set – a Godfather and a Singapore Sling. WOW – they were POTENT. Ten minutes later, we got sat outside in the patio right in front of a giant window that peered into the kitchen. It was like performance art!

window to susan feniger's soul...

We ordered the Kaya Toast (as I had heard Susan talking about it on Good Food with Evan Kleiman on KCRW on February 7) and had to try it. Homemade coconut paste spread on pieces of toasted bread meant to be eaten with a sunnyside up egg with soy sauce and radicchio and green salad.

appetizer - kaya toast

Since there were only two of us, we thought it would be interesting to get the Globe Trot to be able to taste a bit of everything.

globe trot

The following images are of the five courses that came with the globe trot that took us around the world to India (three times), Korea, and somewhere in the Middle East.

globe trotter - course 1

We couldn’t really understand what the waiter was telling us these were but he told us to pour the sauce into the little crunchy morsels of goodness; we happily obliged and devoured them – no questions asked. Definitely an Indian influence of some sort…

globe trotter - course 2

These were fried trout fritters with yogurt sauce – Indian influence again – and piping hot too!

globe trotter - course 3

We hopped over to Korea with this salad of bean sprouts, cabbage, carrots, and tofu dressed with a tangy vinaigrette. Refreshing.

globe trotter - course 4

Then we flew back to India for a chick pea curry and spinach paneer with rice. Unfortunately, the spinach was a bit too fresh and still had some dirt stuck to it, which made it a bit difficult to eat.

globe trotter - course 5

Our final course took us to somewhere in the Middle East with a chicken skewer with the most amazing crunchy crusted skin!

dessert - egyptian cake

For dessert, the house sent us this Egyptian sponge cake with fresh blueberries and lemon sauce to make up for the grit in the spinach paneer – it was light and sweet, but just enough to end the night on a high note.

Please click on the Thrillist.com link for the menu (dessert is not included).

Here are a few pictures of the outside patio area and the inside of the restaurant.

outside patio area

looking inside the retaurant from the patio

And last but not least, a blurry and dark picture of me about to call a tow truck to tow me and my very full belly out of the restaurant!!

so full after all that delicious food!

I highly recommend visiting Street – it’s an culinary adventure!
