All of the acts that were playing, I’ve seen them various times minus Glory Glory Man United.

I didn’t get to see Acres play (Sorry guys, hopefully next time!)

On the Maverick side, the bands playing were really good.
Enjoyed the Property Line and surprised with their turnout this time.
Whale Tooth was amazing as always. They sang some new tracks and mentioned they will be recording a full length for 2010.
Did catch abit of The Habit, they were fine as always but didn’t stay much because they were playing the same time as Glory Glory Man United.

The Gallop was great, turnout was alright but good for myself since I got alot of room to take photos during their set.
Glory Glory Man United was my first time seeing them live.
They were really rocking it.
So that was my Saturday night of music.

Quite spectacularly, last night as a whole day was a complete failure on two pretty distinguished levels.

1. Jonathan Terrence- Long time no see Terry. Son of a beeatch, dared to score from a free kick that Ass-ley C- hole didn’t even deserve to win, thereby landing as blow to United’s title hopes, even though the season is merely 3 months old. Trust the blue twits to ruin, what had been up until then, a good if not average weekend. The only highlight of this match was watching Wayne Rooney get caught offside again, Drogba being kicked twice in the space of a minute by Jonny Evans while Vida laughed at his famous foe from the sideline. For all his trouble, Dogba got himself a yellow card for simulation. Now, I’d never defend a Chelsea player not least one whose name begins with ‘D’ and ends with ‘rogba’ but the video replays all but confirm, Jonny Evans is a ninja.

2. Jedward - I have run out of insults for these two. They can’t sing, dance, breathe on cue or walk in time. Their stupidity was summed up in one glorious moment on Xtra Factor where one of diddly or squiddly looked blank when Holly asked them that, because they’d been saved and Lucie sacrificed, would there be a backlash. One of the Grime twins mouthed ‘what’s a backlash’. Dense doesn’t even describe it. So far, they’ve escaped twice by the skin of their teeth so, please, if my calculations are correct, next week should be the end of the freak show. Usually the argument goes ‘ugg if you hate them don’t vote for them’. Excuse me? I’m not voting for them, the people who do need their ears cleaned out and heads checked out. No one with fully functioning hearing will want to hear their warbling on the radio, so I propose that XF gets the names and numbers of the Jedward voters, and in the event that the inevitable is unleashed on us and the Grimes get a record contract, then the ones who voted will be forced to hear the song all the way through until their teeth start to bleed. Only then, only then will they be allowed to leave and drown their stupidity in the phone bill they’ve run up over the course of the series voting for twiddle dink and twoddlie dink.

People, this was the derby of all derbies!!!!

Before the match started, the mind games began and Ciddy played on the fact they have Tevez (he used to be a Utd player until he decided that sky blue was his calling) and advertised him on their Welcome to Manchester poster outside their stadium. Then Rio Ferdinand made the bold  statement that City aren’t United rivals and that Liverpool are. That should have got the newly qualified billionaires riled up.

Anywho, the match was brilliant and I was only listening to it. Of course, it wouldn’t be United if my nerves haven’t been shot to hell in the 90 minutes and this match was definately no different. Rooney put United in the lead minutes after kick off, then City got one back with Gareth Barry. After half time, Utd went 2-1 up thanks to the new and improved Fletcher who had a brilliant game. But that didn’t last all that long before United gave up the lead again to City and Bellamy. So it was 2-2, with over half an hour left and completely living up to the phrase ‘end-to-end stuff’. With 10 minutes left, Giggs found Fletcher and Fletch headed into the net to give United the 3-2 lead and so it seemed 3 pts? Nope. Not by a long shot yet. More heart in mouth moments led to City levelling for the third time in the game. This time, Bellamy took advantage of Rio Ferdinand’s half hearted attempt at passing the ball and made it 3-3 on 90 minutes. At this point, I was really pissed off that after holding the lead 3 times in the match, United were walking away with a point. But, in comes the most unlikely signing of the decade.

96 minutes on, former Scouser Michael Owen (who I couldn’t and wouldn’t dare believe signed for United of all teams during the summer) became a saviour thanks to Giggs perfect pass and Utd took all three points in the best derby in a long long time. Okay, granted Martin Atkinson may have allowed the game to go a little bit over time and then Owen scored the winning goal. Nice little bit of controversy to go towards the ABU ammunition for this season. It looked to be one point for the Ciddy but it was not to be.

No official treble anywho. Still three trophies.

Barca won 2-0 and won it in style. United weren’t there, they disappeared. Barca ruled the match although United started the brighter of the two and could have been in the lead as early as the 5th minute. But this isn’t could have or should have. They didn’t.

Unusually, I’m not upset about it. I feel hurt that they couldn’t at least show some will and desire to win and that the United team I’ve come to recognise and watch week in week out weren’t there.

On the other hand, it has to be mentioned as I follow La Liga as well (but hate Barca with a passion), Pep Guardiola’s first season as Barca manager has been nothing short of incredible. They completed the much talked about treble with a stellar performance tonight. Congratulations Barcelona. Enjoy it while you can.

And so goodbye 08/09 season. There’ll be a shoddy preview of the FA Cup final soon but from now on its back to the fangirling and the rugby as the Lions take the stage and the spotlight is on them to return having won at least once.

Less than 9 hours left now!! Excitement can’t begin to describe it. More of a sick feeling really because last night I had quite a vivid dream that Barca won. Put it this way, I cried in the morning until I realised I hadn’t watched the match yet…

But bring on Barca!

That photo has been causing some degree of uncomfort to some people. But he’s okay, much to the ABUs disappointment.

Albert! Oh and Dimi. Dimi has a knack for disappearing off the face of the planet.

So, there’s going to be more about the match as the day goes on. Tonight Barcelona head for their 6th European final while United look to be the first team in the modern Champions League to retain back to back titles. Much of the build up to this match has been Cristiano vs Lionel but honestly, I think the key to who wins, lies in the hands of Rio and Vida. When they are on form, they are as effective as brick walls in keeping the opposing team away from Van der Sar. Sure, I’d rather it was more about the team that creates more but, Barcelona are in this final after 1 shot on goal turned out to be the winning goal and the one that took them to Rome. On the creative side, United can do that too. Crosses, shots that look like crosses, awareness of where each other are, the abilty to create space when it looks like nothing is going to come of it.
Oh I don’t know!!! Obviously I want United to win but I’m not going to be blatently biased and so I think Barca might just nick it. As long as I’m not going to suffer heartattacks and emotional rollercoasters, I’m fine with it.

…Whatever. United ftw. The world’s best against Spain’s best….

And so, as Puppet Wazza would say, one more sleep. Keeping in mind that I have always been at college or school on the day of a Champions League final, its going to be harder for me to keep my mind off the match during the day as I have finished college.

Because there’s only two days left!!!

Its the last day of the season tomorrow and United entertain Hull. Well not really entertaining, more like hanging them over a gaping hole and yanking them back every now and again. Think of it as a tug of war. Hull on one side and Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesborough on the other. Now Hull have the power to send all three down if they beat United, or should that be if United let Hull beat them? Point is, United have the League in the bag, and the Champions League final on Wednesday to look forward to so if they do lose, can they really be accused?

Anywho let’s take a look at the trophyless season that the other three enjoyed.

Still no sign of silver at the Emirates. The only silverware there are the spoons.

The manager continues to grasp onto power a la Gordon Brown. He knows he has to go soon, its only a matter of time before the almighty albeit probably silent revolt. The last trophy Arsenal won was the FA Cup against United in a match that saw Paul Scholes miss his penalty and Ronaldo cry absolute buckets. Since then Arsenal have shown they have the ability but they tend to be consistent in being inconsistent. Adebayor used to be a talent but this season he’s been a blessing to the visiting teams’ defences.

Over to the other side of London and poor, poor, rich, rich Chelsea are still getting their just desserts for winning titles on the back of a huge cash injection. In a season that saw the managerial revolving door operate at lightening speeds, Chelsea were thrown out of the League Cup by Burnley, horribly dumped out of the league race by the return to form of the team who coined the phrase ‘trophy winning machine’, and pipped to Rome with two minutes to go by Barcelona. All in all another bout of deja vu for the residents of Stamford Bridge. No amount of plastic flag waving or hired cheerleading was going to push the fact that Chelsea haven’t done anything since Mourhino. They still have the chance to win the FA Cup against Everton but after the last FA Cup final they featured, in all honesty, who would be awake long enough to care.

Its been a grand year for Liverpool. They may have ended it empty handed but they definately showed the desire to win was there. They also reinstated their reputation as the most unpredictable team in the league. They were in with a chance of winning the title, there’s no doubt about that and they were still in the title race in May. Unheard of on Merseyside in the last 18 years. Still a trophyless season is a trophyless season. Their second in a row, but they’re not on shakey ground compared to Arsene Wenger. He’s on the verge of a seismic earthquake. Stevie got honored for being the Writer’s Player of the Year which was an award that they hadn’t won since John Barnes played. It was a season for firsts at Anfield. Like, first time in years that they have focussed on the league. Or first time in years, they looked like geniune contenders for the league.
But, trophyless they remain. Next year is their year.

And so tomorrow is the last day of the season. So 10 months worth of football comes to an end tomorrow.

But for some of us, there’s Wednesday and Saturday to look forward to respectively.

I love United, I really do but one or two players’ sense of fashion is incredible. There must be something in the water in Manchester if you remember the City boys’ interpretation of the club’s official uniform.

I don’t know. For a city that has some of the best places to shop, these two seem to avoid it like the plague. To be perfectly honest, I wasn’t expecting anything co-ordinated from either of them. I mean after the unforgettable silver hotpants and the Argentine insurance advert they have no reputation to live up to. And if Cris can’t find tighter pants for the next time he’s out in public, Senors Greece and Germany from last night are willing to lend theirs. The disturbing thing is, I can see Cris wearing those glittery leggings. Oh, for the days of Fame.

I can’t really hide my excitement over this, I really can’t but I’m going to have a go.

The Arsenal match was always going to be make or break and United went into today’s game needing only one more point to secure the trophy once more which would bring them up to level with Liverpool’s 18 league titles.
The match itself ended 0-0 and United bagged one point and the trophy.

Well deserved from a team who have done nothing but prove how amazing they are individually and how electrfying they can be together as a team.

Good season, it was more of a title race than it has ever been before thanks to a resurgent Liverpool who proved they still have it in them to chase the domestic league. A very, very worthy opponent.

So if you were hoping for a major fail by United that resulted in the £32 million do nothing Brazilian scoring a hat trick, you were so wrong.

I’m not being cocky, but seriously, after the week United have had, I didn’t really see this match going anywhere in City’s direction. Sure they had a couple of chances but that money drain they’ve got operating in the attack, does nothing to help them. No wonder R*** were so happy to offload him.

Anywho, Ronaldo scored another one of those fabulous free kicks to make it 1-0 and Tevez, despite the furore concerning where he will be next season, scored a volley to make it 2-0. It could have been more. We were treated to a sight I’d forgotten about- The Cristiano Sulk. Yep, he didn’t like the fact he had to be substituted. He remained a sulk throughout the remainder of the match even though he was sat on the bench. Many a time, the Sky cameras (on a roll this week with capturing the off pitch/sideline antics) captured the World’s Best Player on the verge of tears, biting his bottom lip and shaking his head at the sheer injustice that Cristiano Ronaldo is not untouchable nor is he un-substitutable. For the past week, pretty much everyone was adoring and in awe of Cris but its little things like the sulking/the simulation/the refusing to get back up and help his team mates because he felt that he should have had a free kick or penalty, that tend to bring the United fan back down to earth with a bump.

Yay! Effing yay! United are off to Rome. Que Sera Sera whatever will be will be we’re going to Italy.

Just a quick round up of the night’s events.
Whistle went, match began, Park scored, Ronaldo scored a free kick and had a hell of a lot of chances. Half time whistle.

Yep. All that in one half. Notice how there’s no mention of Arsenal. That’s because they weren’t really there. So, you ask, how did they get the one goal? A rocket from Fabregas 45yrds out? Quick thinking by Eboue which resulted in a break by Arsenal which the United defence couldn’t keep up with?

Er…no. It was the result of a penalty given against Darren Fletcher who was brilliant during the duration of his appearance on the pitch. Fabregas went to ground in the penalty area, the referee who is definately blind, awarded a penalty to Arsenal and sent off Fletcher. SAF was as bewildered as anyone as to why that was a sending off when Fletch clearly got the ball. So thanks to the referee, Fletch won’t be playing in Rome despite this being his best season ever.

Highlight of the night (apart from Cris’ free kicks and scoring from 45yrds and the Rooney-Ronaldo counter attack which led to the 3rd United goal) watching Arsene ‘We will win it’ Wenger have a facepalm moment that was then edited by ITV to look like he was crying into his hands. Oh and the rush for the exits at the beginning of the second half by the Arsenal fans, heading back to their apartments to unpack and put that passport firmly away for the summer holidays.

Good Morning. Not so good morning for the Mickey Rourke/Robert Downey Jr of football though.

Alas, the day is here now. The day when we find out whether United will go one step closer to defending the title in Rome.

Tonight it is the second leg of the semi final between United and Arsenal. Last week at OT United won 1-0 thanks to a John O’Shea goal and Arsenal impoloding yet again. Prior to that match I had identified Fabregas as being the main danger, apart from the odd flash of brilliance, he remained out of the match for a long time. Despite this, he is still a danger as is Walcott.

Anywho, Arsenal have the home advantage and have to overturn a one goal deficit while United need to score more than one to be on the safe side. On the injury front, Rio is back and it looks as if Evra will be starting too.

This should just be called ‘Rio Watch’.

So, since the broken rib scare, it looks like Rio will be playing on Tuesday after all. He training today with the rest of the squad at the Emirates and looks like he will be part of the team to play Arsenal tomorrow night.

Its good news on a normally dull Bank Holiday Monday.

RIO: I WAS COUGHING UP BLOOD

It may not have been as bad as first thought. He was checked and he has recovered and from what I can gather, he will be playing at the Emirates. So its not the broken ribs we were so worried about. Phew! But that coughing up blood situation sounded preetty awful so he’s not going to play against Middlesborough over the weekend as a precaution. Mind you, the injury list for both United and Arsenal keeps going up after that match on Wednesday which can only mean one thing. Its the end of the season and playing a match every 24-72 hours has taken its toll on the players.

Whilst my favourite Russian export only second to vodka, has been setting his mouth off again. Andrei!!! *fanfare* Arsehavin has explained how he didn’t know how physical the defenders are in the league and cries that when he was in Russia if he’s on for a 50/50 challenge in the air and the defender hits him, the referree would blow the whistle for a foul against Andrei. He’s expressed how that is not the case here and defenders are allowed to challenge as long as its fair and not dangerous.

Just one question…what’s that out there in the distance? Its Captain Obvious setting sail.

Football is a contact sport, sweetie. Did they not teach you that at Zenit?

Speaking of potential battles with defenders. Bring on Tuesday!

Thankyou John O’Shea. Yep, he scored. Arsenal should have known they were doomed once O’Shea got the ball into the back of the right net. I’m being harsh on him and he did do very well tonight. Well done Johnny.

There were many chances to make it 2-0 but they either ended up in row Z or hitting the post or somewhere other than the back of Almunia’s net. Not that Almunia wasn’t a bad goalkeeper, in fact he is part of the reason Arsenal scarpered away with only one goal to make up for. As was pointed out at the beginning of the match, Fabregas seemed to be the main danger but he hardly broke away from the shackles of the United defence who yet again put in an admirable performance. At least, until Rio went off injured. The last time Ferdinand was sidelined with an injury, United suffered a lot. I don’t think anyone who isn’t an ABU would want that again. So I hope he’s okay to play the next matches.

Following Ferdinand’s exit from the match, Arsenal started to counter but thankfully they couldn’t hit the target and the clock wasn’t on their side.

On a lighter and congratualtory note, Ryan Giggs the PFA Player of the Year made his 800th appearance for the club. He’s been loyal to United since 1991. How many players can say they can see themselves staying at their first club until they retire? Apart from St Steven, not many I guess. So congratulations to Ryan Giggs He didn’t follow money, he wanted success and with 10 league medals, 2 Champions League winners medals, 4 FA Cup medals and 3 League cup medals plus so much more silver to his name, he definately has achieved that. All that remains now is if he can add to that tally in the final weeks of this season.

Back to the match and United hold a one goal advantage going into the second leg next Tuesday at the Emirates and Arsenal don’t have that all important away goal.

aka..EEEP! Pt 1.

Tonight, Manchester United take on Arsenal at OT in the first leg of the Champions League semi final. Last night apparently, Chelsea played so say the newspapers but I watched that match and I don’t believe they did. I have never seen such defensive boredom in my life. Oh actually I have, and yes, it involved Chelsea all the time.

Anyway this is not about the boring Blue train.

United have to pretty much stop Arsenal from getting anything that resembles an away goal and shut down Fabregas. I’ve watched Arsenal enough times to know that’s the main danger if it shows up tonight. I’m hoping for a double whammy. Spurs on Saturday and Arsenal tonight, if they win United would have done the double over North London in less than 4 days. And as a Northerner and a football fan, this would be good news.

‘Do a little dance…make a wrong pass…you’re going out tonight’. Joking. (I know more worldly powers do influence football results when someone is cocky about their team’s capability. All I hope is its a good match, with lots going on because I’ll be listening to it on the radio. I need to be kept entertained.)

Everton are through to the FA Cup final at Wembley in May.

The point is that, both teams managed to showcase the most boring 120 minutes of football ever so by the end I almost was wishing whoever got through would get hammered into the ground by Chelsea. To put this into perspective, I never cheer for Chelsea.

Anywho after the 0-0 draw went into penalties, United were always drawing the short straw, all the best seasoned penalty takers weren’t in the team nor on the bench. Despite Tim Cahill putting his penalty into the stratosphere, Everton went on to win and United only put 2 penalties into the net. Hence, United are not on for the media hyped quintuple and instead they get to rest players for the league and Europe while Everton go to their 13th FA Cup final to play Chelsea.

It means the season is almost over when the FA Cup final starts to come into view.

Today, we learned that Chelsea will be one team in the final in May after they beat Arsenal 2-1 at Wembley. Speaking of Wembley, I thought it was a cup final venue not one for the semi finals too. If you want to do that, do a Millenium Magic thing and play both matches in one day. But of course, this is football and that doesn’t work. The cameramen today were more interested in the pitch ripping up all the time at the insanely expensive national stadium. To put into perspective, the rugby EDF Anglo-Welsh cup final was played at Twickenham and even with 30 rugby players rampaging up and down it for 80 minutes, the pitch didn’t rip up as much as Wembley’s did at the sight of Malouda.

Anyway, tomorrow United take on Everton for the other place in the final. The build up has been less than intriguing. I don’t actually know what Fergie is so pissed off at Benitez for. I don’t get why he even launched that attack on Benitez because what have Liverpool got to do with United’s weekend? Apart from playing Everton who are based in Liverpool, what possessed him to launch a stupid attack on Benitez? I thought Fergie didn’t want to indulge in petty arguing anymore but I guess I was wrong. Benitez said something about not understanding what Fergie says but even 888 on teletext has problems with Sir Alex’s speech so that’s not news. Ack. I don’t understand these two.

Next up its Arsenal at OT.

Here’s the only goal of the match scored in the first half by the one and only Cristiano Ronaldo. And what a goal!

I was pretty surprised he played the whole match in 3rd gear and although he gave away possession, its an improvement on the throwing away of possession and letting it lead to goals against United.

But all honour has to go to Rio Ferdinand whose prescence was definately felt in the team tonight. United looked lost and weak without him and tonight he was reunited with Vidic and they were immense yet again, a completely different team. Porto got close but hey, records are made to be broken (copyright written down to Freckles ) and that’s exactly what they did. United went to Portugal and against all odds, won.

Man, if you weren’t so fucking gorgeous, it’d be easier to hate you when you fuck up. But I have to admit that looks yummy!

So now, the focus shifts to the FA Cup and Everton at the neutral and very crap for how much it cost Wembley.

After the hellish rollercoaster Liverpool and Chelsea unwittingly took the every football fan on last night, Manchester United and Arsenal return hopefully to inject sanity into the football second leg.

United were damn lucky to scrape away at OT with a 2-2 draw last week because Porto were the better team. But tonight United have to go full throttle if they want any chance in hell of defending the Champions League title in Rome in May. But there’s a tiny little problem in the fact that Porto have never lost to an English team when they’ve played at home.

Yikes!

Such is the significance of the outcome of this match that the media have started to say that if United don’t return from Porto victorious, then the league and everything else will elude them and it will be 1998 all over again. I hope not. What United need tonight is the real Ronaldo. The one who’s been operating in 1st gear since the beginning of the season but is still the joint top scorer in the league, is good but we need the real one. The real one didn’t give away passes which lead to goals.
