How do you repair a stained glass crack with crazy glue?
It does require some skills to repair a cracked piece of glass in a window, no matter what method you choose. Is it a single crack? Multiple crack? Is the cracked piece in the border or within the main body of the window? If it’s in the border area, then it may be easy for you to remove the piece and either repair it or change it. If it’s in the main body of the window, it gets tricky. My recommendation would be to bring it to a stained glass repair person. If you decide not to, and the window is not of any historical value then you could just infuse the crack with “Crazy Glue.” Just clean the cracked piece with acetone using a cotton swab and make sure you flush the crack well with the acetone. Wait a minute or two, and gently apply the glue starting from the center of the crack and working your way to the edges.

Give it a try; if you are not happy with the result, the process is reversible.

- Day 7 - Being shut in because of a snow storm is one of the best reasons to have a coloring day!

- Day 7 -

Being shut in because of a snow storm is one of the best reasons to have a coloring day! We laid this brown paper across our dining table, cranked up some Laurie Berkner and scribbled away!

After we were finished, I decided to use this beautiful piece of art to make paper stockings! I plan on filling them up with candy to give to nieces and nephews on Christmas!! (Payback, mu-haha!) I didn’t make them very big.. (about 6″ x 11″) so they would also look great filled with stuff for school friends; pencils, stickers, a pouch of hot chocolate and marshmallows, etc. : ) Gift cards would fit nicely too!

To make these puppies, you’ll need paper with a good weight. You can color it beforehand or decorate after you have the stocking together.. either way it will look great! Draw (or print) your pattern and trace, twice. Cut them out and glue the outside edges together. Once the glue is dry, punch holes along the outsides and stitch with yarn. I looped mine in the top front corner so that the kiddies can hang it up.

“Silver bells, silver bells… It’s Christmas time in the city… ring-a-ling, hear them sing… soon it will be Christmas Day!” - written by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans

All lanes of Interstate 24 in south Nashville are back open Friday after crews worked to remove an adhesive spilled during an early-morning crash.

Tennessee Department of Transportation crews had closed off the right two lanes of I-24 East in the Antioch area Friday morning as they put down new reflectors. Police said that at about 5 a.m., a tractor-trailer driver moved to the left as directed but moved back into the right lanes before the construction zone ended. As a result, the tractor-trailer driver slammed into the back of a TDOT truck near Old Hickory Boulevard and then pushed the vehicle into the median…

Adhesive used to lay down reflectors spilled out of the TDOT truck and onto the interstate. Crews will be working to clean the adhesive off, a job made more difficult Friday morning, they said, because of freezing temperatures.

We took Google’s ingenuity & innovation as inspiration in developing the idea for seven short films (& an intro), demonstrating the benefits of Google Chrome. Every creation is built by hand, filmed in camera, with no special effects added. Even the music where Jacqui, the harpist, is playing is live on set. As it should always be with Google, the product is the hero. We celebrate the Chrome product, but we hope in a “Googley” way.

The films work as a longer single film of around 4 minutes, where the 8 films are merged together. We’ve designed annotations into the experience on YouTube; these are effectively hyperlinks to other films embedded into the film itself – like roll-over hotspots with links behind them. We hope this makes YouTube even more interactive. The transition device between films (the ‘notice board’) is based on annotations.

- Day 10 -

I am so thankful that I committed to the 25 days of doing this blog leading up to Christmas. There have been days where I could have kicked myself, but even with the hustle of getting things ready, the list that keeps growing, still having the duties of everyday life.. it gives me a chance to sit and ponder; to remember what this season is all about.

This is a Finnish Star. An eight sided star, which is known to symbolize peace and unity. I am in love with it. love. Love. LOVE! I want to make a bagillion of them and hang them until you can’t see the ceiling! (okay, a little overboard, but… “love!”) Especially if they were silver or gold and sparkly! : ) Although this one is pretty darn cute! I had seen them before and thought they were lovely; I could not wait to try it out for myself. I found the instructions on how to make it, but used double-sided scrapbook paper and my mighty Mod Podge. I garnished it with a button on top of a button and a little stick-on rhinestone.

Beautiful, huh? Or in the words of Rachel Zoe, “beyond, beyond, beyond”. : )

I can’t help but smile when I look at it. It makes me feel tranquil, which is why I must love it so much; especially at this time of year. It’s Christmas! (in case your forgot) So, in your race to finish up your shopping, wrapping, baking, card writing, etc.. take a moment to remember; it is the season to love. Be joyful. Be peaceful. Be good. Be nice to the person stealing your parking spot. ; )

“Are you willing to believe that love is the strongest thing in the world – stronger than hate, stronger than evil, stronger than death – and that the blessed life which began in Bethlehem nineteen hundred years ago is the image and brightness of the Eternal Love? Then you can keep Christmas.” - Henry Van Dyke

A while ago I gave my friend Melissa a wand I had made. She must have it sitting on her desk at work. Someone saw Melissa’s wand and wanted one for herself. Melissa asked if she could come over and do some wand-making with me. I knew that wands take a bit of prep, so I started the preparation without her.

I started prepping and decided to finish a few wands just in case we run out of time before Melissa finishes her wands.

Magic always starts with a stick. I collect all kinds of sticks that have fallen from our trees. It’s important to select sticks that have had some time to dry. I used my cute pink Tomboy hacksaw to cut my sticks.

If you want your wand to be truly magical, you have to add the good stuff. I use genuine Swarovski crystal beads for the tip of my wands. I add a bead cap to beautify the tip of my wand and a spacer at the top to embellish the crystal bead at the top.

I’ve been known to use cord and other types of string or thread for the handle of my wands. My favorite material though is embroidery thread.

The wand just doesn’t seem complete unless it has a lot of sparkle. I liberally sprinkle (not literally) Swarovski crystal rhinestones on my wands.

When I was a child, Christmas was magical. As I grew older and had children of my own, I felt rushed and pressured every Christmas. Over the last few years, I decided that I needed to relax. I thought if I could make other people feel happy and joyful during the holiday then I could surround myself with a lot of peace and joy. Although I originally made these wands in the spring, I believe that maybe Christmas is the best time for wands. With a flick of your wand you can bring back the magic and true spirit of Christmas.

Here’s to a little magic this holiday season!

The Penis Gluing Incident

I suppose that you’re wondering what the picture of the “Bobsey Twins” above have to do with this blog. Glad you asked. What would you do if you saw these two approaching you: Run, or invite these two “honeys” off to a motel room. I pick: Run but the person this story concerns, chose the latter thus casting serious doubt upon any mental faculties whatsoever. Our idiot was a 37 year-old-man from Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin. The two women lured the man to a motel in Chilton, Wisconsin and tied him to a bed. This is officially – thinking with the wrong head. The two women took revenge on the cheating lover by gluing his penis to his stomach.Forty-eight-year-old Therese Ziemann, was accused of doing the actual gluing. She pleaded no contest Monday to reduced charges of disorderly conduct and misdemeanour battery. Her sister, 43-year-old Michelle Belliveau, pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct. District attorney Ken Kratz agreed not to seek jail time for either one. I can hear the laughter in the courtroom now. “You say that they were too hot to resist. You voluntarily let them tie you to the bed? While you were tied, they glued your penis to your stomach.” “Yes your honor. I was led astray, confuddled by their womanly wiles.” Yes, these two just exude sex. A third defendant pleaded not guilty last month to false imprisonment. A false-imprisonment charge against the man’s wife was dropped earlier. His wife? I bet that was waking up to a bad day. How many women was he sleeping with? Obviously taste played no part in this. My Labrador wouldn’t follow these two. One of them looks like Ray Bolger as the Cowardly Lion in the Wizard of Oz. That’ll make you wake up screaming. Next thing, we’ll be seeing them doing a Super Glue commercial.”Want to get back at your cheating boyfriend. Super Glue is the thing for you…and a little rope. So, wrap yourself up in cellophane, meet him at a motel, and glue his penis to his stomach. Right Sis?” “I like to watch.”

I just can’t believe what i just saw in the paper about this matter, they held him prisoner until they could glue his penis to his stomach! If this is not a felony what is? A person being held prisoner is a felnoy and they should serve jail time! This happend in Chilton,Wisconson, the two women accused were seeking revenge on this guy for cheating on them, they lured the brotha to a motel and tied him to a bed and forty-eight-year-old Therese Ziemann and her sister forty-three-year-old Michelle Belliveau tied him up and commenced to gluing his swipe to his stomach! Now you know people if this was a sista doing it to a white boy they asses would be under the damn jail, instead the D.A.{Ken Kratz} allowed them to plea bargain and not get any jail time which is a travesty of justice, you say “well he cheated” so what, you don’t go around doing stuff like that just because!!! You leave his ass alone and move on with your life

- Day 12 -

Today is the day I realized I have a lot more to do then I thought! Finish making gifts, wrapping, writing clues, baking (not much though), cleaning, packing… I better get crackin’, huh? Alycia and I are almost done with the necklaces and are going to start wrapping them up this evening. I wanted to have something cute for her to use, so today I sat down to make some envelopes.

I used scrapbook paper to make them. I don’t have a lot of Christmas paper, although I guess I could have used wrapping paper. Oh, well.. I think they’re adorable… and very easy to make.

Start with a plain ole envelope. I chose square. (it’s what we had)

I carefully tore it apart at the seams and laid it flat. Next, choose your paper and flip it over so the right side is facing down.

Trace the envelope you just tore apart on to the back of your scrapbook paper.

.. and cut it out. This is the front of mine, but you still want it to be face down for the next part.

fold the side tabs in

Fold the bottom flap up. Next you want to glue along the side tabs. Make sure you take notice of where the bottom flap lays along the side tabs, that way you’re not gluing where you don’t need or want to.

Final step.. fold the top flap down. I think we are going to use ribbon and a nice gift tag to tie it shut , but you can glue it, tape it or use a sticker. Fun, fun! : )

And we are here to help you with some last minute crafty ideas. Today’s project is a paper tree, by Pam Hornschu. It wood be absolutely perfect fir decorating the dining table! To get your Shape Shiftable Jumbo Tree into its original shape, line up the Perfectly Clear™ Stamp face down on the picture printed on its carrier sheet. Then lower your clear acrylic handle on to the stamp. It will adhere to the block in just the right shape. Then you can stamp them with sides adjoining to make this perfect tree. Use 3 trees for the top layer, 4 for the middle layer, and 5 for the bottom layer. Voila! A very cool bit of yule decor.

I saw The Sun’s latest TV offering last night during the X-Factor final ad break. Whilst it didn’t quite hold Superbowl-esque creative offerings (which was a little disappointing given the 20 million audience), I was thoroughly impressed with The Sun’s new spot.

Apple parody aside, this is a lovely TV spot.

Brandrepublic’s voxpops were also somewhat interesting. Given their recent dip in readership (and ongoing well publicised online pricing issues within the sector), it’ll be interesting to see if this does anything to traditional sales.

So, Damon and I took the plunge and cancelled our cable service. We decided that it was a big factor in why we are not living as healthy a lifestyle as we should be. We are joining a gym – tomorrow. This will be a good thing for us and we are excited! Lack of t.v. will not only help us with the get-up-and-go we need to get to the gym, but it will also give our family more “together” time. If we’re not being sucked into the idiot box (<– real name for a t.v., I swear.. look it up!) then we’ll be more absorbed in each other. (or maybe just grappling each other for the computer, haha!) I’m looking forward to this and our decision couldn’t have come at a better time. Went to the doc today and she’s says… “you have gall stones, your good cholesterol level is low AND you have a severe vitamin D deficiency.” So she wrote me a script, referred me to a surgeon and said, “eat healthy, work out, get blood work done in two months and come back to see me.” Wow, right? Anyway.. when we got home, in the mail was a pamphlet from the gym we plan to join.. they are waiving the enrollment fee through tomorrow. Woot, woot! What a nice pre-Christmas present, huh?

Today I started making gift tags. Lots with snowflakes, as you can see. I haven’t punch the holes or written anything on them yet. Not sure who’s going to get what. Maybe I’ll let someone else decide so that the kids don’t accuse me of playing favorites! : ) They will all get a personalized gift tag like Jude’s, and that will go on their “big” gift. (So.. ah hem.. AJ, Alycia.. now you know which one to look for!) To make these, I used cardstock, stickers, rub-ons, glitter, glue, buttons, markers, pop-ups, two sided stick letters and scrapbook paper. Just let your imagination run rampant and go!

“May Peace be your gift at Christmas and your blessing all year through!” - Author Unknown

I finally had a chance to get back to this project after almost a week delayed. This week has been crazy and it’s really a joy being able to come back to do what I really like.

This time is my creative time again – so instead of picking ideas from the Verrine book, I decided to create a verrine myself with my own “recipe”. I have this idea in mind from last week to create something with black sticky rice topped with thick coconut cream and a dash of mint on top. Guess what – I can’t find the sticky rice. I tried local groceries and asian groceries and they just don’t have it in stock. What can you do, I just find a substitute. I found this black tapioca pearl – I am actually glad that I didn’t find the sticky rice and found this tapioca pearl instead. They are chunky round shaped and has a reflective surface , which can be pretty to be photographed (in my opinion anyway).

honey coated tapioca pearl with mini orange slices

Food Creation and Preparation

The tapioca pearl need to be hard boiled and cool down to room temperature, otherwise the inside of the verrine will become foggy. The pearls are sticky too (especially after you coated them with honey!) so I need to carefully arrange them into the verrine otherwise the honey will be everywhere.

Initially I wanted to put another layer on top of the pearls. I did try to put a layer of thick coconut cream on top but that was a bad idea. The cream just sink down into the pearls. I tried to put some gelatine powder into the cream to make it firmer but then they looked like a white blob of glue sitting on top of the pearl. I abandoned the idea.

Then I saw an orange laying around and I thought, why not use it? I’m thinking the honey coated tapioca will give quite a sweet tast so a little bit of sour taste from the orange will make it more balanced. Sometime what you pre-visualise is not what you end up with

The Prop

I decided to go trio this time. The alternate arrangement of the orange slices and the toohtpick works quite well I think. I really like the toothpick. The idea didn’t come straight away. At first I was using a red wooden spoon that I just bought from Japan City. But I just don’t think the colours work together (ie orange and deep red). I tried wooden chopstick (I know using chopstick sounds funny but I was thinking since the dessert is in pearl shapes maybe we can use chopstick to pick it up – something a bit different!). But that too didn’t seem to work well. However it leads me to the final idea. What else can I use to pick up the pearls but not using the usual boring spoon? Yeah toothpicks!! The part on the shot where the toothpicks criss-crossing each other is my favaourite part. The orange slices on the corner is coated with honey so they are more “shiny”.

The Shooting

Camera setting was set to F5.6 1/8 ISO100. Again I’m using my usual 100mm macro since I want to get close. I set the main focus to the orange slice. I also make sure that the main subject’s toothpick is on the same focus plane as the orange slice so both the orange slice and the toothpick are in focus (if only I have a TS lens!). The camera is looking down at the subject from 25 cm elevation. Light is set at 3 o’clock this time, up high shining down at the subject. This has the advantage that the light doesn’t form a reflection on the glass itself.

lighting setup

Before the shoot as usual I was tossing between high key and low key shot. My first instict tells me that high key would be more appropriate since the pearls are black-ish and you need something to constrast it against. Black on black is always harder to do. But I really feel that this sweet verrine is a dinner dessert. So call me contrarian, I go with the low key setup. I still need something bright to constrast the pearls against, so I put them on a white serving plate. That brings out the pearls part quite well I think. I particularly like the part where the pearls are pressed on the glass wall creating a dark black circles on the glass surface. Anyway, I also frame the setup so that most of the main orange slice is against the black background, giving higher constrast.

Observation

Making the background completely dark was a challange in the kitchen. There are always something that reflects the light – the wall nearby, the windows etc. So I PS the background to make it black. As you can see, I used my black T-shirts to cover the bench to create a dark surface. It works alright, but I think perspex will work better. I’m gonna get some black perspex next time.

As usual you can see the reflection of the serving plate on the glass. I could have avoided the reflection by using a darker colour serving plate but it won’t give a high contrast between the black pearls and the background. It’s a trade-off I guess.

I’m really into this kind of setup lately where there are a repetition of the same subject coming from the background and leads the eye towards the main subject in front. You can find similar setup concept on my past work on profiteroles and zucchini puree. I has the effect that the main subject is moving from the background, following the line of repetition towards your eyes and come into focus. It’s all about psychology isn’t it.

Here are a few crafts we’re working on at Faemom’s. All crafts are kid friendly. Depending on the age and the ability of the child will depend on how much the child can and how much you do. Stay tune because I’m still working on hot coco mix, dipped cookies, shell ornaments, pinecone ornaments, and decorative candles.

Applesauce Cinnamon Ornaments

I know. I know. I published this last year, but I never got around to doing them last year. I did do them two years ago. So I did them this year, and I learned a lot more. Evan (4) and Sean (2) helped mix the clay, roll the clay, and cut the clay with cookie cutters. This is an easy recipe to multiply or divide.

Things you need:

½ cup applesauce

½ cup and 2tbs of cinnamon (this doesn’t have to be exact. I just found I needed a little more cinnamon to make it less sticky.)

Bowl

Spoon

Wax paper

Rolling pin

Cookie cutters

Straw

Ribbon

Mix the applesauce and cinnamon. You want a clay consistency, not too sticky, not too dry. Roll the clay out in between two sheets of wax paper. Roll it to a ½ in to 1/3 in thickness. Too thick and it’ll take forever to dry. Too thin and you can’t get it off the wax paper. Cut out shapes with the cookie cutter. Use the straw to make a hole for the ribbon. Carefully remove the ornament with a knife and your fingers. (This is when you realize it’s too thin or sticky.) Move the ornament to a fresh piece of wax paper to dry. (Because we’re in cramp quarters I placed mine on a wax papered cookie sheet, so they could be easily moved away from little hands at any time.) If you need to leave the project, you can save the clay in a plastic container with a lid in the fridge for at least a week. Let the shapes dry for two to three days. Thread a ribbon through the hole and tie.

Metal Juice Lid Ornaments

I made these in Girl Scouts years ago. Then I saw it online last year, and I thought it was a nifty idea. Of course, you have to have metal juice lids, which can take some time to collect. This is defiantly an older kid project.

Things you need:

Metal juice lids

A small wood board

A nail

A hammer

Ribbon

Marker (optional)

If you like, you can draw the dots of on the lid before you nail. You can see the marker after you’re done, but mine looked better than when I free-handed it. (Of course, that could just be me.) Put the lid on the board. Place the nail over the lid near the top. Hammer the nail through the lid. Since this is where you’ll run the ribbon, you might want to make this your biggest hole. Continue to make holes of the design you want. I made initials. When finished, thread the ribbon through the top hole and tie. (I am curious to see if these can be painted or polished, which will be an experiment for another time.)

Chocolate Dipped Spoons with Marshmallows

I saw this somewhere in an old craft magazine. Since I couldn’t find the magazine again, I just winged it. Children can help dipping the spoons. Because mine kept trying to eat the chocolate, they were forced out of the kitchen.

Things you need:

Plastic spoons

Melting chocolate (you can go with chocolate chips, but I went and bought chocolate made for making candies)

Bowl or jar

Wax paper

Plate or cookie sheet

Mini marshmallows

Different colored chocolate (optional)

Spoon or chocolate bag (optional)

Melt the chocolate according to the directions on the bag. I prefer the double broiler method because I’ve burnt chocolate before (not good). Dip the spoon to cover the bowl part of the spoon. Wipe the back of the spoon against the bowl or jar to get excess chocolate off the back. Place the spoon on the wax paper covered plate or cookie sheet (depending how much room you have in your freezer). Place marshmallow into chocolate. Repeat with other spoons until plate or cookie sheet are covered. Place in freezer until chocolate is hard (anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes). Dip spoons in chocolate again. Place back on the plate and back into the freezer. If you would like, you can melt more chocolate like white or colored to drizzle on the spoons. When spoons are hardened, dip them for a third time in the chocolate. If you want to, drizzle the chocolate over the chocolate spoons. Put into freezer until hard.

This can be done without the marshmallow as well. You can also flavor the chocolate too.

Gingerbread Men Ornaments

Every year I like to make an ornament with the boys. This year we’re doing two. This is the first one. Both boys, at 4 and 2, were able to do this and had a lot of fun doing it. I’m sure an 18 month old would be able to make these too.

Things you need:

Brown craft foam (I bet this would work with felt or brown paper)

Gingerbread man cookie cutter or template

Pen

Scissors

Craft foam stickers, markers, crayons, fabric paint, paint, glue, glitter, whatever you want to decorate with. All things I have mentioned will work.

Hole puncher

Ribbon

Trace the gingerbread cookie cutter or template on the craft foam. Cut out the gingerbread man. You may punch the hole for the ribbon now or after the gingerbread man is decorated. Have the child decorate the gingerbread man. (Since my boys wouldn’t put eyes on if I didn’t do it, I did that with craft foam dots.) Punch hole for the ribbon if you haven’t yet done so. Thread ribbon through the hole and tie.

Pipe Cleaner Candy Canes

This is something we did do last year. Like three days before Christmas. I thought if I posted crafts three days before Christmas, someone would shoot me. But you have to keep young hands busy somehow or else they would be wrecking the tree, getting into the presents, finding the presents, opening up the cookies meant for Christmas. Evan was three, and Sean was eighteen months. Evan could do both kinds of candy canes. Sean did better with stringing the beads as long as I held the pipe cleaner.

Type 1

Things you need:

Red pipe cleaners

White pipe cleaners (You could use green if you like.)

Take the pipe cleaners and twist them together. Then take the pipe cleaners and form a hook to make it look like a candy cane.

Type 2

Things you need:

Red or white pipe cleaners

Red or white or green pony beads (whatever color is opposite of your pipe cleaner)

Take the pipe cleaner and thread the pony beads on it, leaving space in between to look like stripes. Take the pipe cleaner and form a hook to make it look like a candy cane.
