I don’t mind compiling software from source if I have to, but now and then it’s nice to

I don’t mind compiling software from source if I have to, but now and then it’s nice to just get the binary so you don’t have to see to it that you have all the needed libraries installed. So just for fun (and out of laziness) I thought I just write a very short and simple howto on installing IceCat without having to compile from source.

1. Download the latest IceCat version.
(icecat-x.x.x-g1-i386.tar.bz2)

2. Get the IceCat logo for your icon.

3. Unpack the archive of IceCat the way you like to do it. You can use File-Roller or venture into the dark world of CLI.

4. You should have a folder that is called icecat-x.x.x-g1-i386. Rename it to icecat.

5. Move the folder icecat to /usr/share/, they way you prefer of course.

6. Now you create a new menu item so you can start using IceCat.
(To start IceCat you need to run icecat-bin)

Now you should be able to enjoy using IceCat.

Note: I know it’s not an indepth howto, because it’s deliberate. It’s for the lazy geek, by a lazy geek. You are of course welcome to ask if you need me to clarify my simple and lazy instructions.
