WTF?

Here are the tag stats for today and yesterday, who the hell looks for porn and sex on WordPress? I find this hilarious as they are the only tags that really get results. My other site, http://indianajerk.com which I blog my overseas adventure travels on, uses highly focussed, high traffic SEO tags which do get me quite good results. Things such as “Killing Fields”, “Angkor Temples”, “Thailand Hotels” etc, these work well and get better with the age of the website (Google crawlers take the site’s age into account). But amazingly, AntiNerd has achieved over 80 hits per day consistently during weekdays and is less than two months old.

I attribute this to a few things. First the blog itself is like a cross between Seinfeld and Big Brother. It incorporates feelings, experiences, real human insights, comedy, emotion and has absolutely fuck-all themes. It’s about nothing more than whatever the hell I feel like writing about for the day. Sometimes I’m up, sometimes I’m down, but it’s all real, all raw, and people like to see themselves in others. People can relate to some of my ups or downs, it’s good to see others feel or experience what you do.

Secondly I attribute Facebook and Tags. I don’t take tags seriously on AntiNerd, I put anything really but notice some terms pull traffic (pun intended). Facebook links help lots, when I update, I link it on Facebook and the majority of my traffic is attributed to it being linked by myself and other people on their profiles. Nice work Facebook.

Third on the traffic tip is ex-girlfriends, ex-boyfriends (not mine you idiots, although it’s OK to be gay, fight the power, ruby slippers and all that), and other obsessed people desperately trying to find some hidden meaning about them nestled within my posts. They tend to forget I have an upgraded premium hosted account where the statistics and traffic information is quite extensive. One person in particular visits at least once a day to either click “I hate you” on my poll, or scan for any details that may support the ultimate controversy they have concocted in their brain. This is my blog, it’s about me you fucking idiots, not you. Stop reading so much into it, go and buy Greame Base’s book The Eleventh Hour if you are that desperate to discover a secret mystery. By the way, it was 111 mice that ate all the food. Poor Horace the Elephant.

So there’s this site called Youtube, which serves as sort of a catch-all for the people too dumb for the rest of the internet, but too nice for 4chan. I know, I know, there’re pockets of smart people, music videos and trailers to hilarious questionably real indie movies. But, for the most part, it’s stupid people and their stupid good intentions and homemade fireworks.

One such example that I came across today is this girl YouLoveMolly. She is a horrible human being and spends three horrid videos harassing this poor Hindu girl about how she’ll have to convert at some point in her life if she wants to get into heaven. She, and her friend Rachel, are horrid human beings, and quite frankly I feel like I need to defend Catholics because of these girls. We’re not all like this! I promise!! These girls are just crazy and ignorant and way too pompous and self-assured!

Being a precedent-setter can be a bummer sometimes. Thirty-two-year-old Jammie Thomas-Rassert of Brainerd has earned herself a permanent place in music and internet trivia by getting walloped with a $1.92 million judgment for downloading 24 songs via the Kazaa music sharing site. For the math-impaired, the Pioneer Press runs Steve Karnowski’s Associated Press story which calculates that to $80,000 per tune. The trial, the second, after the judge ordered a re-trial, is the only one of its kind so far. Karnowski reports that “Cara Duckworth, a spokeswoman for the RIAA [the recording industry association], said the industry remains willing to settle, but she refused to put a figure on it.”

The Strib’s Alex Ebert covers the same story and quotes the defendant, Ms. Thomas-Rassert, a mother of four, reacting to the judgment with a terse, “Good luck getting it from me.’”

As I mentioned in the comments at MinnPost, I’m not shy about admitting my transgressions but with a credit report like mine I could digitally steal the Library of Congress and still end up paying the same as if they nailed me for my current collection. I guestimate $3-4 billion in fines right now, and I’m as likely to pay that as the trillions of dollars or so that a copy of the LoC would run.

What’s really sad is that as someone recently pointed out (Masnick?), we’re just five years away from an iPod that could hold the Library of Congress! Why should lawyers keep technology from achieving that insanely great goal?

Especially not given the pervasiveness of this “thing of ours.” Read that post and tell me a crime wasn’t just committed per our newly revised and strengthened copyright laws. Deep pockets theory would hold PZ, Scienceblogs.com, and the University of Minnesota Morris liable for this heinous bit of timely information distribution with intent to teach it to others.

When did that stop being a good thing?

Business people and their hirelings should never be allowed to serve in government. All the incentives are wrong and they’ve accumulated alarmingly.

Been playing with google. It occurred to me that it would be fun to see the Google Images results when you put in non-Roman search terms. บ้าบอ led me to this:

Goatse or not goatse? I have no context for this picture other than บ้าบอ means “crazy” in the beatnik/eccentric kind of way. About 7 pages into the search results which were otherwise mostly of Thai album covers and pop stars.
