#30YearsOfWarinAfghanistan

I started using this tag on twitter a few weeks ago. For as long as I’ve known about Afghanistan I’ve had an interest in it. Obviously being a lifelong New Yorker the events of 9/11 made it a topic. I was 16 when The first War started(before Iraq). #sidenote I think many forget that there are in fact TWO wars going on, THREE if you count the equally as death producing drug war. Tora Bora. Osama’s in the caves with a dialysis machine and his trusty doctor. Dead or Alive. The Hindu kush mountain ranges. Northwest Pakistan. Taliban and ancient civilizations where any who wish to take refuge must be sheltered. Places no mechanized vehicles have operated on. The tapes, the fuzzy bootleg video recordings. Some say Osama is a fake totally fabricated by some conspiracy master plan. Some say Osama is dead. Some say Osama is real and masterminded these terrible acts of violence. Some say Osama drives a cab in the city. My opinion? I don’t know, so I won’t say.

What I do know, and what I can say, is what I’ve read about the situation and the lives of the people there. The pictures i’ve seen. The stories i’ve read. The documentaries, the articles, the movies based on, and one book that may have been written (in my mind) specifically for me. And not just the people, the country, it’s animals, it’s history, it’s mountain ranges and natural habitats. Besides being important to me because we are currently at War with the country – besides that – I see an Afghanistan that is filled with remarkable natural life like Snow Leopards, mountain ranges, fields, kite controllers, weevers of incredible carpetry clothing and art. And I know that there have been talks and the president I voted for is considering sending 40,000 more of my peers, young American men & women into a place filled with a civilization of people who have endured foreign weapons and bloodshed for 30+ years.

I love New York City. That is unquestionable in my every thought and action. What happened on 9/11 has made me who I am more than anything in this world. By saying we should leave Afghanistan am I giving up on the vengeance of my city? Am I saying they died for nothing because we never found Osama? No. In the Godfather Pt. I after Sonny Corleone is killed the Don calls a meeting of all the families in the mafia and he says “I forgoe the vengeance of my son” because he realized that no one else needs to die. GIVE PEACE A CHANCE.

My grandmother revealed to me today that my father was talking about Afghanistan when he was my age. 30 years ago. And we’re still there.

I THINK I AM GOING TO PUKE ALL OVER MY CPU SCREEN~ I AM SO DISGUSTED WITH WHAT THE BIGGEST MUSIC SIT

I THINK I AM GOING TO PUKE ALL OVER MY CPU SCREEN~ I AM SO DISGUSTED WITH WHAT THE BIGGEST MUSIC SITES HAVE BECOME. THEY USED TO ALL ACTUALLY TELL IT LIKE IT WAS AND GAVE THEIR OPINIONS WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT WHAT THE OTHERS WERE GOING TO DO OR WHAT WAS “HIP” OR “COOL” ~ IT’S NOT EVEN ABOUT THE MUSIC ANYMORE, IT’S LIKE THE DAMN MUSIC INDUSTRY (ESPECIALLY THE SUCCESSFUL INDIE CROWD) IS A HIGH SCHOOL PROM AND NOBODY’S SOULS OR HEARTS MATTER, JUST THEIR DRESSES AND WHO THEY ARE BRING WITH THEM TO THE BIG DANCE AND HOW THEY ARE GETTING THERE. I’M GOING TO DO EVERYTHING IN MY POWER TO GET THIS BLOG ONTO THE RIGHT PEOPLE’S COMPUTER SCREENS IN THEIR HOUSES OR APARTMENTS! THERE HAS TO BE PEOPLE WHO FEEL THE WAY THAT I DO. WE MUST RISE AND CREATE A NEW GENRE OF MUSIC IN ALL FACETS OF THE THEORY! IT WON’T BE INDIE, IT WON’T BE ALTERNATIVE, IT WILL HAVE TO BE CALLED “OTHER(TWICE)”

I WROTE THIS ON STEREOGUM AFTER READING THE 4TH LIST FROM PITCHFORK WHICH WAS ONLY 20 INSTEAD OF 50 AND THEY WERE BY FAR THE BEST, THEY GOT MORE GOOD ALBUMS IN 20 PICKS THAN THE OTHERS DID IN 50!!!

HERE IS MY RANT: What if the greatest album ever created comes out next month?! Anyways, Out of all the 4 lists from the Top Guns, Pitchfork got more right in 20 than any of the others did in 50!!!!!!! They are the only ones to include a Modest Mouse Album, I know everyone thinks that Lonesome Crowded West was their Holy Grail & then they sold out, but as a Musician or even a massive fan of music, I think that what Isaac Brock did on The Moon & Antarctica (3 People), Good News For People Who Love Bad News & Even The Johnny Marr Included We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank <— All 3 of them would be in My Top 50 Along With Ugly Cassanova! Silverchair – Diorama One Billion Percent Belongs In Every List~ It just infuriates me that all of these main music sites have to make sure they are still hip in their decision~ I mean, M.I.A is Beyond Amazing, But I don’t think that Arular is even half the album that Kala is and of course that is because she brought in Big Time Producers and all that, but M.I.A as a Singer/Rapper/Producer/Programmer <— She learned and got better at all of those things over the years in between those albums, but NOT ONE LIST HAD KALA, Just Arular Because It Is Cooler & More Hip To Say So & I Think Modest Mouse Made No Lists Because Of The Same Thing.. It’s Just Ridiculous. I am going to start a Music Blog & I am going to put the time, dedication and money behind it to get it into peoples heads and I will not bow down to what others think I should think. It is really getting pathetic at this point. HE DREAMS AWAKE Better Be In The Top 10 Of The Next Decade’s Lists~ If they want weird, unique, completely different in shape/sound/structure – That is where HDAWAKE Prevails by Landslides~

I MAY BE INSANE, BUT IT IS A BEAUTIFUL & BRILLIANT INSANITY.. AT LEAST THAT’S WHAT I TELL MYSELF WHEN I’M TRYING TO FALL ASLEEP ;P

HERE IS THE PITCHFORK TOP 20 OF THE LAST DECADE

I HAD ACTUALLY LET UNCUT SLIP PAST ME & THEIR TOP 20 IS BETTER THAN HORRIBLE~ I WOULD TAKE THE TWO TOP 20’s OVER BOTH TOP 50 LISTS COMBINED TO A DESERTED ISLAND FOR THE REST OF MY OWN ETERNITY, NOT SAYING THAT WOULD BE EVEN DECENT, BUT IT WOULD DEFINITELY BE…… BETTER THAN NOTHING (i think)~

LET’S HOPE NOSTRADAMUS WAS WRONG ABOUT 2012 ALONG WITH THAT GROUP OF HARDCORE CHRISTIANS!!

ONE LAST THING.. ONE BIG ASS QUESTION: WHERE THE F#@K IS ELLIOTT SMITH’S FROM A BASEMENT ON A HILL??!!!!!!!!! IT DIDN’T MAKE ONE SINGLE LIST AND IT HAS A FEW OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONGS EVER WRITTEN AND HE IS TALKING ABOUT PURE PAIN AND FRUSTRATION BECAUSE HE STUCK A F#@KING KNIFE IN HIS HEART BEFORE HE EVEN RELEASED IT. IT WAS A DOUBLE ALBUM AND IT BELONGS ON ALL 4 OF THOSE LISTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT THE F#CK EVER~

In the Mafia organizations apply the law to shut up, called Omerta, people who break it will get the death penalty. Omerta has become like a “religion” in Sicilia. So if you’re a stranger, and there, then ask the residents about the right direction, do not expect you will get the right answer. Reading this book, we’ll be a bit to learn about war tactics, and art in the lead, which is characteristic of the Mafia. Apparently a member of the Mafia must respect his wife, and protect his family. The Godfather explained about Mafia life in New York City, which tells of the struggle for power, respect for family, love, loyalty, and the consequences of living in the middle of the killers, corruption, and revenge. The characters in this book is very complex, which has hopes, dreams, and fears, but also a vicious killer.

Editor’s Note: The purpose of this epilogue is to take account of where we are today and where

Editor’s Note:

The purpose of this epilogue is to take account of where we are today and where we are heading in the near future. I realize this is a lot of information to wrap your mind around. The opposition will label it a conspiracy theory and many people will reject it on that basis. I understand the sentiment. I do not want to believe it is true either. However, there comes a point where the evidence is so overwhelming that it can no longer be ignored, dismissed or rationalized. As more people come to an informed understanding about Soros public opinion will turn against Mr. Obama. Soros is moving to preempt that reaction in the public square and to control the voting process. So far he has been remarkably effective. No public official has stood up to him (except for Rep Joe Wilson’s outburst… “LIAR”). But in any grand scheme there is always an X factor—something the architect did not anticipate something he cannot control. At this point I cannot tell you what that might be. It is an imponderable. But, our goal is clear: to drag this dark mover from behind the scenes into the broad light of day as I have tried to do for you here. For now at least, this is our country. Let us make sure we do not lose it.

EPILOGUE: CURRENT ASSESSMENT

A year has passed since Obama was elected. His poll numbers have fallen from the stratospheric heights they were at then. His approval rating is now below 50% according to the most reliable polls. This is unprecedented. Pundits and pollsters alike are setting off warning flares. And they have found just the right nostrum: Mr. Obama must adopt a more conservative fiscal policy or else his party will suffer dire consequences in the 2010 election. That is the sober advice which pollster Scott Rasmussen and political advisor Doug Schoen offer Obama. Newsweek writer Scott Trende makes essentially the same argument when he says the Jacksonians and the suburban voters are deserting Obama because they know they will pay dearly for Obama’s fiscal irresponsibility. (Note: Scott also boasts that he and Jay Cost invented the term “Jacksonian” to describe the working class coalition that believes in traditional American values. Unless I am mistaken, that term was coined by the estimable Walter Russell Meade.) To complete the folly, Republicans are reading the tea leaves the exact same way. Suffice it to say, a good strategist could run circles around these plodding conventional thinkers.

Soros is a strategist of the first order. He knew when he installed Obama that there would come a time when the hopium would wear off and in the morning after the American People would awaken to the inescapable fact that they are being robbed. Furthermore, he knew that when that happened a substantial anti-Obama coalition would form, and if that coalition could hang together then his man would be defeated in 2012. He will soon be 80 and might not live to see his plan for a New World Order come to fruition. Therefore, he needed an answer.

The answer to his problem is as old as the Roman Empire: If the opposing army is superior in numbers then you create a crisis in its ranks, so you can divide and conquer. Obama does not need a majority to win in 2012. All he needs is to get more votes than the other candidate. And for Soros that is the trump card.

The Soros strategy is in four (4) parts. The first part is to push for so-called Immigration Reform. This will be done in the name of national security, fighting terrorism, interdicting drug cartels and enhancing cross border economic activity. Those are perfectly legitimate issues. Time will tell whether they are effectively addressed or get lost in the shuffle. In an administration where everything is political, and attempts to govern through the endless campaign, it is hardly surprising that the real objective of this legislation is political in nature: to game the 2012 election. Amnesty will be the cutting edge issue. More than 12 million people are in this country today illegally. The prospect of legalizing them while 17.5% of the American labor force is out of work is irresponsible. That issue will ignite controversy. The word racist will be redeployed. It will galvanize Hispanic activists, and antagonize unemployed Americans. It will drive a wedge into the body politic including the anti-Obama coalition. It will reinforce the Soros position of open borders set forth in his Open Society mantra. It is brilliant.

Second, Soros can see the fissures within the Republican Party. Perhaps a better word would be schisms. Perhaps an ever better word would be great divide. Today, the Republican Party is a coalition of small government libertarians, religious conservatives and neo-con business interests. They agree on certain issues, disagree on others and if the candidate the party puts forward does not appeal to them they will either vote for a third party candidate as they did with Ross Perot in 1992, or else they will stay home as they did in 2008. We saw that as well in the 23d Congressional District of New York. As a result, the Democratic candidate won in 1992, and the Dimocratic candidate won in 2008. And in each case, those uncompromising Republican voters told themselves that in the moment of truth they stood for principle. A better interpretation would be that they formed a circular firing squad and blasted away—just like Soros wanted.

Soros knows this and that is why he is starting to fund politicians and groups within the Republican coalition who press positions which divide the Party and/or the electorate. For example, Soros will be inclined to fund a “Republican in Name Only” (RINO) like Florida Governor Christ in his Senate run because he knows that conservatives will not vote for him for ideological reasons and if they show any inclination to do so then can tell them about the Night of the Green Iguana. Similarly, he is making a large contribution the Catholic Church knowing that they will support candidates who oppose abortion. Meanwhile, his man Obama courts anti-gay spiritual leaders. Again, this is a concerted attempt to pull voters away from the Republican Family Values Coalition. He knows can proceed with impunity in the Democratic Party. Organizations like NARL, Planned Parenthood, and others endorsed Mr. Obama in the primary and refuse to criticize him when he makes common cause with their enemies. You begin to wonder whether they are taking member contributions under false pretenses. Soros knows.

Third, Soros is a practitioner of shock doctrine. He knows that whenever there is a crisis the majority of people will rally around the nominal leader, and forget everything else. That is why his man Obama tells us that everything is a crisis, the status quo is unsustainable, and another spending program must be initiated or else we will all be wailing and gnashing our teeth in the outer darkness. It is also why he has moved aggressively to take over the economy. And, it may even explain why Mr. Obama has decided to prosecute the mastermind of 9/11 in U.S. District Court as a civilian with the full protection of the U.S. Constitution, rather than a military tribunal as enemy combatant under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. This serves the interests of both Soros and Obama because it will keep the issue of interrogation techniques in the forefront of the nation and world. It will energize the radical left wing base of the Democratic Party in preparation for 2010 and it will ingratiate Obama to the Muslim world but at the expense of America. And, it will greatly enhance the likelihood that the defendants will be acquitted because of what occurred in custodial interrogation. In that case, mainstream media wins as well because they can then seize the opportunity to blame this on all Bush. Obama would express disappointment at the misdeeds of his predecessor and exhort all of us to be better human beings. It could also lead to a bonus round for Soros if the Bush officials who authorized the extreme interrogation techniques which prevented a second al Qaeda attack on U.S. Soil are charged with violation of domestic or international law. In that case there could be a follow up trial and a Second Judgment at Nuremberg. Soros has a pathological hatred for Bush and this would delight him to no end. If the Republicans have any heavy hitters left like Ted Olsen then now would be a good time to start rolling them out. This is a bold and provocative move by Soros. It is a chance he did not have to take and it could backfire on him.

Fourth, Soros funds an organization called the Secretary of State Project. The purpose of that project is to elect Democratic Candidates to Secretary of State position in key battleground states. The Secretary of State is responsible for the interpretation and application of State Election Laws. The Democrats blamed Gore’s loss in 2000 to Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris (the recount) and Kerry’s loss in 2004 to Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell (the rejection of provisional ballots) both of whom were Republicans and made rulings adverse to the Democratic Candidates. The Secretary of State Project has been successful. In 2006 the candidates it supported won 5 such elections and in 2008 4 more. However, instead of correcting the problem some of those Democratic Secretaries of State have made it even worse. The paradigmatic example is Jennifer Bruner in Ohio whose attempts as voter disenfranchisement border on malfeasance.

(Note: there may well be a fifth part to the Soros strategy to maintain perpetual power—voting machines. It is like the Secretary of State problem inasmuch as Democrats believe the abuse of these machines began with the Republican Party who controlled the voting machine company—Election Systems Software. The Democrats want to change to a new voting machine company—Segovia AVC Advantage, which has been purchased by a Venezuelan Company which is linked to the government of Hugo Chavez. However, the more critical point is this: whichever voting machines are used they can be hacked and votes can be stolen by writing a computer program which had not been invented at the time that the machine was designed. This has been proven by computer experts at leading universities. This could turn out to be another project for Soros supported Blue State Digital. The answer to this entire dilemma is hand counted paper ballots with a secure chain of custody. That is the only way to ensure clean elections and restore public confidence.)

Someone asked me why Obama seems so ebullient when the problems of our country are so dire. I told him that if I am right and he is controlled by Soros then it is because he has made significant progress implementing the Soros Agenda. If he were focused on the people’s agenda then the priorities he is pursuing would be entirely different, e.g. jobs and fiscal control. Someone else asked me whether he is soft on terror. I told him if you add everything up then it is hard to reach any other conclusion. Specifically: i) his failure to deal with Afghanistan, ii) his failure to support the democracy movement in Iran, iii) his failure to insist that Iran relinquish its nuclear weapons program, iv) his failure protect our borders, v) his support for amnesty, vi) his refusal to call a jihadist army officer who slaughters 13 Americans a terrorist, vii) his failure to prosecute terrorist suspects before military tribunals and viii) his support for the prosecution of Americans whose interrogation techniques reportedly prevented a second 9/11 attack on American soil—taken together as a pattern all point to the same conclusion.

Good God! Enough!! Be off with you Irving Berlin!! You must learn to respect the opinions of other people. And, try the benign explanation first! Isn’t it true that Soros could fund the Catholic Church for perfectly legitimate reasons such as a detached and disinterested generosity? Isn’t it possible that Soros heard the flute music of the Gospel of Wealth? How can you be so sure his motive is Machiavellian? How can you criticize this wonderful altruistic man? Oh, but that is not the worst of it. No siree! Why you even have the audacity to criticize the Messiah himself! How dare you accuse My Barack Obama of base motives? He has given so much HOPE to everyone in the world—especially unemployed Americans, and our soldiers in Afghanistan. Just you wait Henry Higgins! By the end of his fourth term everything will be perfect!!! Right now, he is showing the world that he open minded enough to give the men who did bad things on 9/11 the presumption of innocence and the full protection of our laws. And just last week he told us not to jump to conclusions about the army soldier who lost his mind and unintentionally shot 13 Americans at Fort Hood. If these poor men had been raised in nurturing environments none of this would have happened.

He always knows the perfect thing to say–like dumb (white) cop. The three little things people in small towns cling to. A more tolerant man never lived. A more decent one never existed. (Swoon). He is always thinking of me– I mean us, and never about himself. And he is there when you need him– on bus placards, street cameras, art posters, magazine covers, mugs, key chains, sweat shirts, bloomers, body tattoos and everywhere else you look—just grinnin’ like a possum. Oh, blessed are we that Messiah Obama came to Earth in our lifetime. (Tearing up). How can he produce a birth certificate when he is the product of Immaculate Conception? Those birthers never thought about that possibility– now did they? How can you criticize him after all he has done for mankind? (Choke). Well, okay maybe he hasn’t done squat. But just remember he got the Nobel Prize in the I Got Plenty of Nuthin’ category– so there! (Tongue Protrudes). How can you say mean things about his avuncular Godfather? (Fortissimo) I hate you! You are delusional! (Sobbing convulsively, music rises from the orchestra pit, camera moves in, long close-up, fade to black, print.) Voice over: no retakes please!

Thank you for the Selznick moment. You ask me why I say these things? I say them because they are true. Our world is in flux and the American People are entitled to know what is going on. Mainstream media gives them nothing but bread and circuses. When is the last time you heard Brian Williams ask Obama a tough question? People need to know what is true. And they do not want to hear from Snidely Whiplash Axelrod.

After all others there are other opinions. The reason I know is because I have been on the campaign trail, I have spoken to knowledgeable people and I have done the research. Could I be wrong? Of course, I have no illusions about that. I could be wrong on a number of points—but the premise itself is sound. There is too much supporting evidence to conclude otherwise.

I know because I know the nature of the beast, the devil’s coup d’ etat, and the brave new world of George Soros. Furthermore, I believe what’s past is prologue. You do not need to be a clairvoyant. You don’t need inside information. All you need to do is understand their motivations, interpret their words and watch their actions—like a hawk. Then do your own research. To know more about the grand scheme, you would need to be inside the Soros organization. If you are, then you have my sympathies. If you are an American or just a decent human being, and not addled on hopium then there will be times when your conscience troubles you deeply, and you wonder if the paycheck is really worth it. But there are many lawful ways to defend our country especially where you are. We are relying on you as well.

Bad Boys Miami takedown

My Ten Favorite Films: A Revised List

Every time I talk about top 10 lists, I always start with the disclaimer that I know how pointles

Every time I talk about top 10 lists, I always start with the disclaimer that I know how pointless they are.

And then I ask myself: OK, if they are so pointless, why do I have so much fun reading them and doing them and sharing them?

No good answer, In fact, making lists is far from the only pointless thing I do.

Today, I am adding some new films and slightly changing the order. It is not a 10 best list. It is a list of my ten favorites. A list of 10 best films would be beyond nervy given how many films have a legitimate claim to inclusion.

But it seems perfectly fair to make a list of ten favorites since they are, in fact, only my favorites.

My favorites have stayed the same for over a year. But for the last few months I have been mulling over “No Country for Old Men” and “The Lives of Others.” (Now I can really hear you saying: This guy need a life! Who has time to mull anything over?)

Seriously, I want to make some changes to my list. But according to ground rules that some friends of mine and I set up many years ago in a UCLA dorm room, I have to remove one film for each one I add. I posted my last 10 favorite about a year ago. Here is my new one along with a list of contenders.

Honestly, I need to get myself a hat. I wanted a hat for a very long time and never got one. I still

Honestly, I need to get myself a hat. I wanted a hat for a very long time and never got one. I still don’t know why. But I need to have a fuckin’ hat. Now, I don’t mean caps and any other head-protecting shit, I need a real serious-guy hat. I’m tired of baseball-caps and condom-like hats you pull on your head in winter, or whenever you feel like your brain might freeze to a comatose state of being.

I need to get myself a hat that tells people that I’m a serious guy, I will never fuck anyone over, I’m as honest as a businessman can be, that I’m all together the guy you wanna shake hands or – if it’s a woman, other things - with. Have you noticed that guys with hats are taken instantly seriously. He’s the man. Why? He has a hat. He must have something very valuable under that hat. Hats make you important. How do you think Abraham Licoln got famous. He was no genius, he was just like you and me, except… he had the damn hat. Nobody wrote about “Ab Lincoln’s brain”. No! They wrote about “Ab Lincoln’s hat!” The hat, people, the hat can make you the freakin’ president. Frank Sinatra, wonderful guy, exceptional voice and never seen without the hat. And of course he became famous as hell. Frank Sinatra would be no Frank Sinatra without the damn hat, I tell you that. Without the hat he’d just be plain Frank. See? When you have a hat, people instantly feel the need to call you by your full name. You aint just Billy, Frank or any other lame-ass name, no… you get respect, cuz you have a hat. They respect you hat. You try and take off your hat, nobody’ll give a shit. You’ll become a nobody. People might even put out their cigarettes on your head or suit, that’s how unimportant you’ll become, but once you put your hat back on, they’ll offer you a beer for free. Cuz you’re the guy with the hat. The Godfather… he had a hat, look how famous he’s become. People are still watching the movie. Sunday, monday, tuesday, wednesday… he had the damn hat. No problem he was maffia, people still liked him, cuz he had the hat, they had to like and respect him. Robin Hood… the guy who ripped off rich people to help the poor, had a hat, and he became famous history. Even the Wizard of Oz had the freakin’ hat! This is unbelievable! A wizard who otherwise is considered a bad person, one that has to be burned damn it, if he puts on a damn hat, he’s instantly ok, even more.. he becomes the wizard of all times.

So I need the hat, maybe not a wizard hat, cuz that might not make me look too good, but I need one of those Frank Sinatra hats, who knows I might become the next biggest swing-jazz musician… The hat does miracles. Have you seen a bald guy with a hat on? No!

If Indians have always been smart at making remakes and adaptations, veteran actor, director, producer and screenplay writer Kamal Haasan has been the smartest. He considers it a good idea, stating the example of Ramayana to draw our attention to the various adaptations of our Vedas , folks and fables, Panchatantras and other religious works. It is difficult to name a person who has as skillfully escaped copyright and plagiarism issues as Kamal Haasan and yet secured a respected position in the world of remakes. Because when its Kamal Haasan, ‘it’s ideas compiled and ideas added’ and that can’t be termed as ‘idle or foolish copying’. After all, who doesn’t use inspirations and existing ideas to add to the creative pursuits?

Kamal hassan

Kamal is capable at focusing on the crux of the matter. He chooses tried and tested movies and that’s why with several remakes round the corner, audience always turn to the ones of Kamal. When Kamal adapts a work, the makers of the original often admit of its surprising originality and magic. Hence more often than not , its success all the way.

Kamal in maro charitra

1. Looking 2. Listening 3. Learning Hell fire it was hard this morning. Son 1aged 5y 1m has need

1. Looking

2. Listening

3. Learning

Hell fire it was hard this morning. Son 1aged 5y 1m has needed navy blue swimming trunks since term started. Here we are after our three week half term, with his baggy white Monsoon shorts still damp and packed somewhere in the suitcases. I was in Asda at 9pm last night pushing a trolley round George looking for trunks. I asked an assistant. They are, apparently, seasonal items. They come in to the store in Spring and go in the Sale in July. And that’s it. My fallback plan was a pair of navy and red Aged 3 swimming boxers I’d found in a bag of hand-me-downs before we went away. But what had I done with them. Wonder Nanny had also been sorting clothes. She’d taken my random pile and put the clothing away in the most logical place. Which was where I found them. This was a Good Thing. Son 2 aged 2y 1m cried and clung, but Son 1 got to School and I got to The Office on time.

At The Office a colleague had done something so Useful and Important for me that my first morning back was a breeze. I took her out to lunch to say thank you, blasting holes in my Holiday Resolutions of watching my spending and my eating. I managed to offload a great pile of Nachos on to her plate in revenge. In the afternoon, the contrasts. The Man rang. Son 2’s Godfather is gravely ill again. And then I had a long conversation with someone I know whose young daughter, nearly three, is terminally ill. “We never recorded her voice while she could still speak,” he said. Wonder Nanny, who is very qualified, very competent and very caring, took Son 2 round to play there about a month ago. The father felt it was a success, so I’ll ask her to go again. There is something very crap about the Mother who sends her Nanny round to help the desperate family. But I just don’t know what to do.

I picked Son 1 up in the closing minutes of After School Club. He had his school photos, which are gorgeous. At home, I just wanted to cut out pictures of my two gorgeous children and put them in their little cardboard frames, ready to send to Grandparents and Aunties. The real-life versions of the two gorgeous children scrapped and screeched and shrieked for my attention. Which they got. Words from earlier floated back: “Her span is only going to be short so we’re trying to make sure it’s the best life possible.” I will be less snappy with my children.

November 4, 2009 A WOMAN’S call to the police, to report a man walking around naked in the fla

November 4, 2009 A WOMAN’S call to the police, to report a man walking around naked in the flat opposite hers, led to the exposure of a string of sexual assaults on a 12-year-old boy.

The man, a 68-year-old freelance magician, who was teaching the boy magic, had talked the secondary school student, now 13, into engaging in sex acts with him.

Yesterday, the man, who cannot be named to protect the boy’s identity, was jailed six years for the offences in July and August last year.

He had pleaded guilty in May to four counts of sexual assault. Another 11 charges were taken into consideration.

In sentencing, Justice Choo Han Teck took into account the ages of the boy and the man, the man’s personal circumstances and his lack of criminal history.

He said: ‘The accused did not commit any such offences before, and I am of the view that he would not likely repeat these offences which he had committed in a relatively late stage of his life.’

The penalty for sexual assault is up to 20 years’ jail and a fine or caning but men above the age of 50 are spared the cane.

The man, who is divorced, smiled on hearing his sentence. His son and daughter were in court.

The court heard that the magician met the boy, then 12, in August 2007 after performing at a carnival and asked if he was interested in learning magic tricks from him. The boy was keen and his father agreed to the request.

The boy began going to the man’s flat on weekends to learn the tricks and at times stayed the night. He also tagged along to help the magician.

The two became close and the boy called him ‘godfather’. The man bought him gifts, gave him pocket money and took him out for meals.

In mid-July last year, at his flat, the man asked the boy if he knew how babies were made and if he was a ‘girlie’.

He told the boy to show him his penis to prove he was not a ‘girlie’. The boy did so.

The man then performed oral sex on the boy. He asked the boy to do the same to him, but the boy refused. The man drove the boy home and told him not to tell his parents.

But later that month, the two began performing oral sex on each other. It was on one such occasion – Aug 16 – that the woman in the opposite block saw the man naked and called the police.

When they knocked on his door, he had on a pair of shorts and claimed that he was alone. But the boy was found in one of the rooms.

The man had also taken nude pictures of the boy but the photos were deleted, the court heard.

A psychiatric report on the boy said he was confused about whether he had done anything wrong with the man.

The man’s lawyer, Mr Simon Tan, said his client was feeling empty until he met the victim.

The former school bus driver was despondent after his retirement and was dealt another blow when his wife of 40 years filed for divorce. He was also depressed over the prospect of moving into an old folks’ home because his son was emigrating.

In honor of the first anniversary of this blog, I’ve opted to write something personal. Becau

In honor of the first anniversary of this blog, I’ve opted to write something personal. Because I know she’s a frequent reader, I’m going to use this space today to speak directly to my ex-wife. The rest of you (who I know enjoy learning more about my private side anyway), enjoy:

Dear XXXXXXXX,

How have you been? It feels like we’ve talked around, but not to each other in a very long time. I’ve had a long year, but I’m still here. I think this is the first time in a long time where everything for me has been about business. I’m setting the stage for the rest of my life, pun intended. I figure you heard that through the grapevine. Anyway, sitting here listening to the Godfather waltz made me think of you, of us. No, I’m not going there, just hear me out…

It really seems like two lifetimes ago now I was courting you and trying to figure out how to get you to like me. We were just kids really, you and I. I don’t feel like I was ‘quiet’ back then; or rather, not quiet the way people who don’t know me perceive me to be. I loved hearing you laugh; I’ve always loved hearing you laugh. And you knew how to encourage my silliness. For the brief period of time we were happily married, we had fun. Well, let me not speak out of turn; I had fun. There were the big ‘events’ of course, but when I think of you, I think of the little things: the way you pouted when I play fought with you, the way you pecked the base of my neck when I did something without you asking, the way you breathed when you slept. Even when things started to go sour, it made me peaceful to watch you sleep. It brought me home more than once.

In retrospect, I’m not amazed the love between us ended. But knowing my personality (and yours), it seems tragic it ended so violently. I can count on one hand the things I’ve wanted more than I wanted a divorce from you. Even you would admit (I think) that we reached a point where I could do nothing right by you, and you could do nothing right by me. My guys didn’t like you, your girls didn’t like me, and that was that. We both wanted to explore the other options we had; I didn’t see you in my future anymore and vice-versa. When we finally separated, all this tension just…released. The freedom to get on with our damn lives.

The Lord works in mysterious ways of course. In hindsight it seems our biggest mistake was getting married too young. My feelings for you at the time were genuine, but we clearly weren’t partners. As I’ve come to learn in the relationships I’ve had since, what was missing in our marriage was trust/respect. We were together, but were we ever really friends? When my friends and I have disagreements, we tend to talk about it, and at worst, agree to disagree. When we fell apart, it exposed there was a basic bond we skipped past to get intimate. I’m not blaming you; it’s a two way street. I have learned that much; I imagine in your relationships you have to.

It strikes me as a little odd that our relationship is better now than it ever was when we were together. Part of getting older I guess. I’ve had more than one flame admit to being intimidated by you, which makes me laugh. Everyone doesn’t age well, but you are as I imagined you would be: attractive, sophisticated, strong. I’m not trying to relive our past, I’m just acknowledging what I found appealing about you in the first place. Whatever you think of how I’ve moved on, you should recognize that when I cast Erica or Samra opposite me in my romantic flicks, I’m paying tribute to that. All things considered, there’s still not that many mainstream artists that portray you as beautiful. I’m part of the solution, not part of the problem.

I don’t hear from you much anymore, so I assume things are well? My father still asks about you now and then. I think he’d still like to see us work things out, but that ship has sailed. It is nice to see you once in a while, to hear your voice, to know life has played out the way you wanted it to. As bad as things were at our darkest point, I would have never imagined we would be civil again. Such is life. Anyway, be good.

M

(P.S., Not too long ago, I found the Alpha shirt you bought me back in the day. Remember the time I tried to explain the Riddle of the Sphinx to you? (wink, wink))
