Yes it’s a monkey wearing glasses… Now I can see where Eyelicker is coming from when it

Yes it’s a monkey wearing glasses…

Now I can see where Eyelicker is coming from when it comes to enjoying straight-up brutality and considering that one of my all-time favourite death metal acts is Cannibal Corpse that becomes fairly obvious. I mean if anyone can read some sort of philosophical approach into the lyrics of ‘I Cum Blood’ or ‘Hammer Smashed Face’ then you’re clearly a twat. Because there isn’t anything in there to find. The point I was trying to get at more was that the amount of done and dusted metal that I listen to on a regular basis (this journalism lark is a real pain in the arse at times). It’s just refreshing to hear some music where a bit more thought has been put into it lyrically. I mean who listens to grindcore for the vocals? Certainly not me.

As with many things in life its about what you want out of what you surround yourself with. I love Hatebreed but I’m not about to stick on ‘Supremacy’ when all I want to do is chill, when I want to get drunk and break stuff or am just feeling generally angry, that’s when it suites. I realise that some people can listen to whatever music they feel like regardless of their mood.

Ultimately it’s an entirely subjective matter, it goes without saying that what means nout to one person will mean the world to another. Coming from the academic background that I do (English Literature) my mind at times is constantly in ‘analyse’ mode where I will try and find the meaning of life in a ‘Teletubbies’ episode and I know that it’s stupid but it’s just the way my mind decides to work on these occasions. I didn’t first start listening to Gojira for their lyrics, in fact, surprise surprise, it was the music! So after insulting that fat Slayer kid in my last post it seems somewhat hypocritical to start admitting that I first fell for the sound rather than the overly philosophical lyrics.

This is no bad thing…as I said earlier I’m not trying to say that all band’s should start reading Plato and Schopenhauer and start labelling themselves as ‘postmodernmetalancientinfluencedneurohyperrealpostrock’ just that once in a while I like to look beyond the obvious. I can only speak for myself so don’t take this as some sort of sermon by a self-righteous preacher because the people that already agree will continue to do so..and those who don’t…won’t.

The simple answer..Gojira are French. Yeah ok pretty stupid reason you might think but give the band a listen and you’re opinion may well change…I first heard the fine frenchies just over a year ago and it has caused my music taste to rapidly diverse and mature in the following twelve months. Some of you may recall my article from a while back about my disdain for metal fans and metal bands in large amounts (see ‘Metal Fans = DUMB). The general gist being the lack of integrity in most metal lyrics and using the example of Mastodon to demonstrate and it can be done (and very successfully).

Gojira are something of an enigma, before the success of ‘From Mars To Sirius’ they were unknown except to the French and in recent times remain the country’s best kept (until it was revealed that is) secret. They are a prime example of a band that in the course of 2009 have played to 1,500 adoring fans on their home soil, come to the UK, played the smallest and murkiest of venues possible (I witnessed them destroy Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms) and then off to open for Metallica! This is perhaps more of a demonstration of the hostility of the UK scene and the large refusal to accept anything recorded post-1985 as ‘true metal’. It’s not just the band’s intensely dense sound and insane technical ability but their conciousness to be able to sit and write a good, solid, song.

The lyrics are a whole new ball park from most band’s, with Iron Maiden’s tales of mythical travels and 18th – Century poetry being the closest the UK comes to ‘intelligent’ lyric writing. Gojira’s songs are philosophical and topical debates about two things largely; the world and death. ‘The Art Of Dying’ is a haunting epic, the lyrics nearly indecipherable and cryptic in the extreme.

In many ways Gojira have found the perfect metal formula, with enough blastbeats, distortion and screams to satisfy the fat kid who loves slayer (see the YouTube video) and all his fat friends whilst maintaining a higher level of intelligence and integrity so that those of us tired with the carbon-copy metal formula can continue to find more in our music. I admit they won’t be to everyone’s taste but don’t knock it till you’ve tried, and trying means a whole album! ‘The Way Of All Flesh’ is a good starting point and perhaps the band’s finest work to date.

1. Women – There is nothing more exciting in life than an attractive and interesting woman who likes me. I’m addicted. They come in a variety of colors and flavors.

2. Chipotle – I’m talking about the burrito chain, not the sauce. In fact, I don’t really like chipotle sauce, but the place that shares the name is amazing. I could live a long happy life if I could eat nothing but their burritos. I order mine like so: Barbacoa, rice, black beans, double hot, sour cream and cheese. Before Chipotle came along, the only place I ever had a burrito like this was in California and they were never quite this good. Men’s Health gives them a hard time for the size of their portions being so large. Well, fuck Men’s Health. They’re fucking stupid. This chain uses the best quality ingredients and their massive portions mean I can go many many hours before I need to eat a candy bar or some other horrible thing.

3. Lamb of God – This is probably my favorite band. They only seem to get better with time, although I wasn’t hugely familiar with them before Sacrament came out in 2006.

This is the first song I ever heard from them:

The my new favorite LoG song is Choke Sermon. There’s no video for it, but you can hear it on their myspace page. The chorus riff is fucking amazing. They’ve been criticized for making new songs that sound just like their old songs, but I think this song really got to me precisely because it reminds me of stuff I already like.

4. IceHouse – At about 18, I didn’t enjoy the taste of beer all that much, but “ice” beers went down pretty smooth. Now, I enjoy beer and Icehouse is the one cheap beer that I actually like. Sadly, the Walgreens I used to buy it from stopped carrying it.

5. Cab 281 – As a poor person who has to drink beer, I sometimes drive a taxi cab to supplement my regular income. I like driving around in former police car Crown Victorias, but they don’t always ride that well after 250,000 miles or so. Cab 281 shows 170,000, but it handles like a sports car. It’s the most impressive cab I ever drove and one of the most impressive cars I’ve ever driven, which probably isn’t saying all that much. I would happily drive this car every day.

6. The Internet – I like the internet in general, but I’m really talking about shit like this.

7. Gorjira – This is my other favorite band. They manage to tie grindcore to groove in a way that more than makes sense. Their songs get in my head like no other bands’. There are tons of metal bands out there these days, and almost nobody listens to any of them. Many are very good, but they’re mostly copies of each other. Gojira stands out. Very coherent. They manage to sound very original without being weird.

Click the video and read the comments to see how alone I’m not.

8. Carne Asada Fries – You can get these from Filiberto’s, Riva’s, and most other drive-thru burrito shops the Phoenix area, probably anywhere in the Southwestern US. It’s French fries, with a ton (ok, not a ton, but easily a pound) of Carne Asada, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and as much red hot sauce as you care for. It makes a great lunch, but it’s absolutely mind-blowing as a drunken 4th meal. Please don’t tell the queers and Men’s Health about this.

9. Mad Men – This is the best show on TV, and you’re lame for not watching it.

10. Xbox 360’s controller – Far superior to the PS3 controller.

so basically right now everyone and their mother is compiling lists of anything and everything you c

so basically right now everyone and their mother is compiling lists of anything and everything you can think of because the end of the decade is nigh.

a lot of top metal album lists of the decade that i’ve seen so far include albums that i personally think have no right to be anywhere in a list either online or in print, but then again, differing opinions is what make the world go ’round. i mean, thank goodness there’s someone out there that loves fat chicks, right?

two lists of note, though, is the list on invisible oranges, and the top 50 albums of the year, a serious and thought-provoking undertaking from therockblogger.com.

additionally, rolling stone had some ‘celebrity guests’ write in their top 25 songs and albums for the decade. metal sucks posted tom morello’s choices, as well as three out of four metallica member’s choices. U2 was sprinkled throughout all of them and that fact makes me so fucking mad i can’t see. you can read the charts here. lars ulrich, already 98% suspect, cemented himself in eternal faggotdom by listing ‘pink – get the party started’ as his 18th favorite song.

i decided to buy the decibel top 100 greatest metal albums of the decade out of curiosity, figuring i’d disagree with most of it. surprisingly, there were a lot of albums on the list that i was happy to see included, or that i didn’t think would show up. gojira – from mars to sirius definitely belongs on it; decibel writer jeff treppel describes their music as ‘…the space whale. The sheer weight that this music exerts must be what it would be like to have such a massive leviathan pass overhead…’ i can’t think of a better way to depict this album. i love this band.

mare – EP was on there as well, as #24. it took me a little bit to get into this band but once i did, i couldn’t stop listening to it and i put ‘they sent you’ on basically every mix cd i made for probably two years. they kind of fell off the face of the earth and then sadly disbanded a while later without releasing anything else but a melvins cover for a tribute album. click their name above and go to their myspace to check them out if you haven’t heard them yet. highly recommended.

other stuff i was in agreement with: agalloch – ashes against the grain, #20;witchcraft – s/t, #36; two electric wizard albums, and some jesu. all solid choices.

something i was surprised as shit to see on the list was system of a down – toxicity. also andrew wk – i get wet, which isn’t so much metal but it’s just an awesome fucking album. how can you not include that on this list?!

there’s a bunch of other predictable shit on the list, like every mastodon and converge album, a heap of pelicaneuroisis, the red chord, pig destroyer, etc etc.

#1 wasn’t a surprise, and no, i’m not telling you who it was. support the dying print industry and buy the magazine.

after finishing the list, it made me wonder what albums were my favorite of the decade. people’s favorites can range widely over a course of time as long as a decade. note: i do not mean the best albums in terms of musicianship, and not the most musically groundbreaking either. this is just about my favorite albums.

these are some of the albums i consistently love, never getting sick of them no matter how tirelessly i listen, or how long it’s been since i’ve picked it up. and in no specific order:

as the sun sets – 8949.

agalloch – of stone, wind and pillor + the mantle.

electric wizard – let us prey.

tool – lateralus.

mare – s/t ep.

the black dahlia murder – unhallowed.

3 inches of blood – advance and vanquish.

red sparowes – at the soundless dawn.

swarm of the lotus – when white becomes black.

asmegin – hin vordende sod & so.

the samuel jackson 5 – easily misunderstood.

the abominable iron sloth – s/t.

isis – oceanic / celestial / panopticon.

cephalic carnage – anomalies.

sunn O))) – 00 void / black one.

dragonforce – sonic firestorm.

I swore the day metal heads starting wearing birkenstocks I was gonna throw away all my notes on music marketing. Leave it to a French progressive death metal band to get the pigs up and flying. Gojira, from Bayonne, France, have named themselves after the Japanese Godzilla, and appear to be a black-clad, axe-swinging incarnation of the modern environmentalism movement. I’m sure I don’t need to explain how f***ing metal it is to name yourself after a skyscraper- crushing, reptile red-eyed, urban menace. But maybe there’s more to this monster moniker. Could Gojira be a fire-breathing analogy for vengeful Mother Earth as they flatten ultra-modern, people-packed, pollution-spewing cities with guitar riffs and double-bass pedals?

These kind of fantastic images are what I dream up when I’m listening to From Mars to Sirius–Gojira’s fourth release and international breakout record. All twelve tracks are brutal ear beatings where Joe Duplantier’s voice pulls back the heavy steel curtains of guitar distortion to lament humanity’s ecological insolence. His lyrics are quite spiritual, like transcendentalism with high blood pressure.

Gojira are musically sophisticated as well. They’re borrowing techniques from doom, melodeath, thrash, sludge, grindcore and even hardcore. “Where Dragons Dwell” has thrash’s Tommy gun double bass pedaling, abrupt, screeching death metal riffs, and very melodic interludes. The second half of the track finds Duplantier chanting about monsters in an intelligible growl and at a quite sludge-y pace. In fact, Duplantier’s voice is surprisingly versatile. His timbre and tone can change mid-measure, from a hardcore scream to a death growl.

“Unicorn” is the resident instrumental track, and it’s all atmosphere. The solitary guitar riff echoing over very tame drums offers reflective solace between ear- crushers. The first two minutes of “Flying Whales” is reminiscent of an old-school Deftones song. Nu-metal drum patterns and eerie atmospheric effects finally give way to some very technical death metal riffs and pitch shifting growls.

Gojira doesn’t give a shit if the Earth gets angry, they know she’ll recover, but they’re definitely pissed at you for ignoring your personal responsibility and morality. Some songs sound like Billy Graham sermons, while others are sci-fi stories about leaving our ruined planet in a bewildering, lucid dream. The final track on From Mars to Sirius is titled “Global Warming.” Here the lyrics are almost too explicit. They might even sound ironic if I wasn’t so terrified by Duplantier’s schizophrenic lyrical vocal delivery: savage screams and lower-pitched, Maynard Keenan-like spoken word. Add Christian Andreu’s impeccable guitar tapping and you’ve got yourself am edgy anthem for the fast approaching Copenhagen Climate Conference.

Four hundred thousand years ago

They came from outer space

And gave us life here

And we are taking everything for granted

I don’t think we should do this now

And when I see the smoke around

I feel like I’m not

From humankind down there

-”Global Warming”

Bottom line: Gojira are embarrassed by humanity. But don’t confuse their preaching for holier than thou environmentalism. Duplantier sounds just as lost and frustrated as the rest of his generation, and he growls humbly about being a pawn in powerful hands of nature. As a metal band, Gojira do well to channel their angst towards a worthwhile cause. And they’re not all talk! Gojira support Greenpeace and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society for defending ocean wildlife, although there’s no place to donate on the Gojira website or their Myspace.

From what I read, Gojira’s live show is immaculate. They finished their first North American headlining tour last May. This Fall, accompanied Metallica on their tour for two months.

I’m off to listen to “Flying Whales” and pretend I’m headbanging with Thoreau.

Of course they’ll want to use it as a weapon. Bombs versus bombs, missiles versus missiles, and now a new superweapon to throw upon us all! As a scientist — no, as a human being – I can’t allow that to happen!”
~~Dr. Serizawa

Time has not been kind to “Gojira,” the foreboding, chilling original black-and-white Japanese film released in 1954. There was the abominable 1956 American version starring Raymond Burr (saddled with the moronic title “Godzilla, King of Monsters!”) that polluted Ishirô Honda’s dark themes of nuclear testing fallout and human responsibility. Then came a slew of remakes – no need to keep a tally; the number changes with the tides — so nutty and crazily different in tone that none work in tandem. So Honda’s original creation, with its lack of technicolor, comical destruction scenes and English overdubbing, has faded into the background.

Fifty-five years later, it’s time to move “Gojira” back into its rightful position as the quintessential Godzilla film, and the only one that works as both an eerie monster movie and a thought-provoking drama. That hardly means, however, that “Gojira” is a faultless masterpiece; the film has its flaws, chief among them the acting (which is, with few exceptions, mediocre at best), a contrived, largely uninteresting love triangle and some heavy-handed dialogue (in fairness, translation is an inexact science) at the ending. But getting tangled up in these flaws means missing the point entirely. What Honda has done is create a haunting snapshot of post-World War II Japan, still paralyzed by fears of nuclear warfare. Moreover, he raises some important questions about the human price of scientific discovery that still feel as relevant today as they did 55 years ago.

Honda takes his time leading up to these issues. He spends many (a few too many, to be frank) of the film’s opening scenes introducting the human players in this epic-sized drama: Emiko (Momoko Kochi), her father Kyohei Yamane (Takashi Shimura), a respected paleontologist; Emiko’s fiancee Ogata (Akira Takarada); and accomplished scientist Dr. Serizawa (Akihiko Hirata), Emiko’s reserved childhood companion who can barely hide his romantic feelings for her. Ogata wants Emiko to break news of their engagement to Serizawa, but before that happens a much more intriguing and meaty plot thread loops through: A 150-foot monster, resembling a giant lizard but believed to be a surviving relic of the Jurassic period, is spotted off Tokyo’s coast. Efforts to roust the beast, dubbed “Gojira,” from his watery hideout are horrifically successful, and Gojira lays waste to Tokyo in a series of brutal raids. Bullets, electricity, even missiles are useless. Emiko, however, stumbles on a possible solution: Serizawa’s Oxygen Destroyer. The scientist’s dilemma — use the Destroyer to stop Gojira and risk it becoming a nuclear weapon, or hide his invention and watch Tokyo burn — marks the film’s turning point and its central, most powerful question.

Where ”Gojira” succeeds most obviously is the cinematography (provided by Masao Tamai), since it’s the look that creates the ominous, bleak tone viewers can’t quite shake. In black-and-white, with so many scenes filmed in the dark, Gojira looks every inch the unstoppable force of nature that he is. There’s not the faintest whiff of humor or self-conscious camp to be sniffed out anywhere, particularly in Gojira’s rampage through Tokyo. These sequences are sobering, even elegaic in their simplicity. Akira Ifukube’s score, with its dramatic crescendos, drives home the tragic feel of these attacks, and later hauntingly underscores the ramifications of Serizawa’s decision.

It is this crucial moment, perhaps, that excuses the movie’s few shortcomings — Serizawa’s personal and professional crisis. The scene, stunningly filmed, is complex and emotional. He has created something with the power to change the world, and Honda captures every gut-wrenching angle of Serizawa’s reality. He is torn between his scientific principles and his humanity; he understands the Oxygen Destroyer is not simply a means to an end, that using it means punishing a dangerous but innocent creature born out of man’s experiments on nature. Somehow, in these final moments Honda shows us, really shows us, something more terrifying than Gojira itself: The more control we believe we have, the less we ultimately do.

Here’s my Top 5 Albums of the Aughts. I’m not claiming they’re the best or most musically important five albums of the first decade of the 21st century. These are just the albums I listened to more often than all the rest.

5. Beck: Sea Change
Did you ever see the episode of Futurama where Bender goes on tour with Beck’s Head? Great episode.

4. The Thermals: The Body, The Blood, The Machine
As you might tell from the title, this album has a lot of negative things to say about religion, especially Christianity, and how it’s used to control people. I can really get behind that sentiment. I can also get behind music that’s both punk rock and smart. What I can’t get behind is how much that last sentence sounds like it came out of a Pitchfork review. Fuck Pitchfork.

3. Gojira: From Mars To Sirius
One night, I was in the Lucky 13 Saloon and something that sounded like a creature that devoured souls to live started coming out of the juke box. The friend I was with and I stopped mid conversation and asked each other, “What the hell are we listening to? It’s pretty fucking amazing!” It turned out it was Gojira. From Mars To Sirius is 12 tracks of the heaviest shit you will ever hear, and they somehow sound even better live.

2. Tool: Lateralus
Tool videos are great. Pure nightmare juice. If your dreams were anything like Tool videos, you would never go to sleep. This one takes a little while for the song to get going, so I wouldn’t blame you if you skipped to the 4:10 mark, but you’d miss some pretty freaky shit if you did.

1. Mastodon: Leviathan
Leviathan is based on “Moby Dick”. That doesn’t sound very metal, but it turns out it is. What is incredibly metal is that when Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds suffered a brain hemorrhage after a drunken altercation, his doctors advised him to stop drinking during his convalescence. He did not. He did, however, stop smoking crack. Remember when I said I’m not claiming these are necessarily the best albums released from 2000-2009? Fuck that. This is the best album released in the past ten years.

Honorable mentions:

Ministry: Rio Grande Blood

Bumblefoot: Normal (Yes, I know I’m biased, but I played the shit out of this album)

Fucked Up: Chemistry of Common Life

Slayer: God Hates Us All

After working through the big Space Troopers group and finishing them earlier this week, I wanted to spend this weekend unwinding on some pet projects. I have accumulated a good number of M1 kaiju blanks, and brought a few to school with me that I was furthest along the planning process with. First up, which I knocked out last night, was this Godzilla. The base figure is the 09 Lucky Bag (I think Wonderfest) red unpainted 1974 Godzilla sculpt based on Goji’s appearance in Godzilla cs. Mechagodzilla. The red vinyl was really vibrant and lovely, and I spent alot of time trying to decide what to do with it. I finally settled on a modified ‘Burning’ scheme, from Godzilla vs Destroyah, the final Hisei-era film, in which Godzilla basically has atomic indigestion/ a heart attack. The Burning/Meltdown scheme is usually much more dark and start, with Godzilla’s body color in that film being very inky and close to black. I am a sucker for classic green Godzilla, however, and decided to use the red vinyl blank as the basis for a much more olive lizard green Godzilla undergoing his atomic meltdown. I also tried using some different metallic paints through my airbrush, Privater Press Paints colors, which I was not sure of the spray-ability of. They went on very thin, but that worked to my advantage in keeping the vibrant red on the spines while sprucing them up. The teeth and eyes were added in with a little brush work, and I am really happy with how this monster came out.

JFB (2007 UK DMC Champion & Vestax Champion 2003)
JFB s-a lansat pentru prima oara la platane in anul 1996 abordand genuri muzicale precum Jungle/Drum & Bass si fiind difuzat numai la radiouri pirat. A castigat Campionatul DMC din Marea Britanie in anul 2007 si Campionatul Vestax in 2003. Avand o experienta muzicala vasta ( abordand numeroase genuri muzicale, printre care Drum & Bass, Dubstep, Breakbeat, toate tipurile de Hip Hop, etc. ) a avut ocazia sa concerteze in cadrul unor evenimente, avand capacitatea de a innebuni publicul si, in acelasi timp, sa aduca elemente de turntabalism, atat prin seturile folosite in cadrul campionatelor de DJ cat si prin video-scratching.

Stanton Warriors, Plump DJs, Soul Of Man, A-Skillz, Loefah & Sgt. Pokes, Benga, Leeroy Thornhill (ex-The Prodigy), Atomic Hooligan, Aaron Spectre, Rob Birch (Stereo MCs), Parov Stelar & Sax Max, cu Igor Marijuan live pe IbizaSonica Radio, Dr. Alex Paterson ( The Orb ) sau Gus Gus si altii.

Gojira :
A pus alaturi de nume precum Plump Djs, Stanton Warriors, Soul of Man, Slyde , Annie Nightingale, Ed Solo, Adam Freeland, Aquasky, Dj Food, Dj Krush, si a cantat in deschidere la Faithless.

A mixat in cadrul petrecerilor „aproape perfecte” „Legal Night”, after Parazitii si alaturi de Dj Vasile, Brazda lui Novac, Beardyman & JFB.

Because this week is a short one thought it would be nice to give you a heads up on what’s next to come. So:

Thursday, Yazee starts the weekend early and hosts none other than Jazzsteppa representing the mighty Hotflush label, for a live performance in Goblin Club (30, Smardan Str. – near the old city center). Tomasan will be the one warming up for the headliners with what seems to be a fresh-as-fuck set – trust! and after the headliners you’ll find me spinning probably most of the good sorts of Bristol Sounds, Dubstep, Garage and UK Funky.

Friday show some support for one of the big guns in Dubstep - Joker alongside MC Nomad, Borgore, Silent Strike and his special guests at Palatul Universul (23, Brezoianu Str.) at a Dropdread event. Also, if you’re not that into agressive beats and filthy basslines see you just across the street down in Other Side (4, Brezoianu Str.) for some serious House, Techno, 4/4 business alongside TRG, Seb and the loveboys of Tg. Mures Addo & Dan Bazix (long time no see mates!).

And save some energy after these two nights because Club Action! is set to bring Club Fabrica down in pieces, because from all the Trouble & Bass and Mishka rosters they invited just the craziest fuckers they could find: Tomb Crew. Before them in (more or less) order: Unlocka with his glitchstep sounds, Meeloox with filthy bleeps and tweaks and Gojira with his trademark bangers. After them you’ll find me again, spinning probably a more House, 4/4 and Bassline oriented set.

Needless to say more, see you in the club, and take Monday off work, college or whatever else you’re planning to do, cause after these three nights Sunday won’t be enough for rehab time.

Today in basic computer components……. we went over Microsoft Office again. I finished 2

Today in basic computer components……. we went over Microsoft Office again. I finished 2.5/3 assignments that are due next week while in class. The only reason I didn’t finish the other was because it’s a mini-research paper.

The paper is to describe either a favorite place, or favorite Holiday. I ended up choosing Davis, California – where my old school was. Though I didn’t like the school much, I did love the town. Compared to my hometown, it’s different in many levels.

You can walk around at night usually without fear of getting mugged or stabbed

elderly are very kind and say hello when walking by, and say good morning.

bikes > cars

There are many other things, but my most favorite thing would be KDVS – the free form radio station I used to volunteer at. They sure do make Davis a great spot for many bands to stop by.

Anyways, that’s why I chose Davis.

Over the weekend, I found and fell in love with Jetoy’s Choo-Choo Cat stationary/character(s). I’m new to Choo Choo, so excuse me if I get anything wrong.

Jetoy is a popular stationary/decoration company located in Korea. I’ve admired Korean design aesthetics, but never really looked into it. I kind of wish I did sooner though, because now I’m looking everywhere for Choo-Choo products. I’m also debating if I should buy sticker packs and a yearly/monthly/weekly schedule.

I bring this up because, for my design class I’m supposed to turn in two assignments this week.

A set of abstract colored in thumbnails depicting the words chaos, serene, order, tension, and playful

Fold a piece of paper, and draw half of an image on the page and be prepared to cut it next class (cut paper art).

T he idea of animals dressing as other animals or in human clothing has always amused me, but also intrigues me. So I’m debating if I should do such a thing with the half drawn image. I think I’ll do some sketches before I go to bed… but I’m really excited about it!

I’m not so excited about the abstract work though. Abstraction is interesting, but it’s not something I would choose to do because it always makes me confused and depressed (haha…). After taking Avant Garde Art History, it left me more confused than anything because the idea of abstract art keeps changing. I admire the people who can, and choose abstract art. I think I just prefer more subjective art (but subjective can have two meanings too! this is why I stay away from abstract).

^Abstract works in my Fine Art studies, these werent the final products, just what I could find at this moment (on my hard drive) of working with abstract…

rofl down here

I have a thing for guys with glasses… and it’s bonus points if they’re white and “nerdy” in some way. (Extra super points if they know their computers, and like video games)

Anyways, I think this guy is cute because he looks like my bfff Kevin. Which probably explains why I smile and feel flustered when he’s around haha. Kevin just laughed and told me to take a picture of his “twin” for him…

So during break, he happened to be in the lounge trying to fix the satellite for some people, but he couldn’t because the other guy who knew how to fix it wasn’t working tonight (he works in… a IT-oriented area for student services which is another reason why he is Kev’s twin). AND THUS, I ninja’d a photo. How creepy of me yes? no? Well I saw it probably as my only chance to get a picture of him for Kev.

Adorabllllllllllllle.

David actually ended up talking to the twin for a few minuets, and since i was face front, I tried to ninja again but, David’s arm got in the way so I moved, and only got neck down.

I also think he might have been onto me. So, I ninja’d away.

Oh what I do to get a picture for Kevin…

<— This is a display in the student lounge area. Ah I love Gojira

David said the puppet looked like a “Mexican Astro Boy” though. David himself is Mexican, so he tends to make “laugh at your own race” jokes all the time.

I think some people might be offended by what he says, or think he’s an asshole… but, I just think David is honest and speaks his mind. I think that makes him enjoyable to hang around. Plus, he’s the only other Game Art & Design major I know of in the same year as me. He’s a nice guy though, so I don’t think people can really get butt-hurt by him .

Anywho, time for me to go.
