It’s so good to be back in your arms. I missed you so much baby. Somehow even if we spent the day together, I still feel that I am missing you a lot and I so want to be beside you always.

Thank you for the pasalubongs. Thank you to your mommy to for the Swarovski necklace. It is really very pretty and I appreciate the fact that she took time to find something real nice for me. And thank you for the cellphone accessory too… as usual, you’re the sweetest ever – I would never think that you would buy something like that – much more put it on your phone too! And of course my Ferrero Yum! I love the fact that you never forget the foods that I like and the things that make me happy. You are simply amazing baby.

Thank you also for the breakfast at Starbucks and lunch at CYMA and Golden Spoon. I really love our breakfast and lunch dates – when we feed one another, or discuss what to order (which sometimes takes years… haha) and sometimes even where to eat :p and most especially when we hug and kiss while eating (not really caring what others think?) :p

Baby, thank you for this wonderful day! Thank you for your sweet tweets and for showing me how much you really missed me (I think showering me with kisses was enough proof?) And of course thank you for bringing out the geek in me… the UNLIKISS keyword was totally baduy but it made me laugh I really enjoy bonding with you baby – even when in work.

After the movie, we did a little shopping at Kohl’s. Why do they not set up all stores the same? I felt lost and turned around in this store! Despite the minor discombobulation, all three of us found a few things each. My goal of finding some season cross-over items with birthday money was accomplished. I found a couple of cute sweaters for layering that didn’t look too old or too young for me. YAY! We’ve been having better luck finding age-appropriate clothes in Miranda’s size lately, and Ali found a couple tops that I’ve already made clear I may borrow. She’s already been raiding my closet, so why not?!

Feeling satisfied with our wardrobe finds, we headed to Golden Spoon for some froyo. This made me cold on the outside and happy on the inside!

Enough for the day – home again. After a quick check of Facebook and a little internet surfing, we watched Tangled. I always wonder about the correct way to say this. Do you watch something on On Demand or just watch something On Demand. On On? Is that like saying “do do” – “I do do that”? Me thinks too much!

Tangled was followed by nine rounds of Scattergories then ANTM real-time before Idol on DVR. I won’t even waste time expressing my thoughts on Idol this week, except that I love, love, LOVE that the freshly groomed Casey pulled back and showed a more tender side this time.

So yesterday, my parents attended a wedding leaving me, my older brother and my two older sisters to have our own choices as to where to eat dinner in Trinoma. It’s really a different experience when you go out to a mall with your whole family and just your friends, but even more so when it’s with your relatives only. You get to discuss things not usually discussed, especially because there’s no authority watching every conversation, like the freedom that Grand Theft Auto games give you. Do what you want, say what you want, and so colleges and serious futures were talked about…admittedly though, I had a hard time hearing them because I was too busy looping over and over my biggest musical achievement to date, which if you already know me well would be my new Ronin Amaro track, “Limit Break”. Cause if you randomly read this post without knowing me, I don’t think you would have any idea what Ronin Amaro is besides being an OC XD

Anyhow, so we went to Sizzling Pepper Steak and ordered food with the budget our parents gave us. Last time, I tried a variation of their most basic beef pepper steak, which would have the addition of curry powder. Yes, I happened to be hooked on things that tasted like curry ever since the day I bought Cuchi Rice from the Ateneo High School cafeteria (by the way, it’s pronounced “kuh-chi” not “koo-chee” because it’s curry and chicken. I…would know better now <<). My verdict though was that it was too salty for my tastes, but then again, in this restaurant, what isn't? XD This time around, I wanted to try their "Hamburg" (really, is it supposed to be different if you add the "er" or not?) and ordered a hamburg and chicken meal. True to their name, when the dish got to me, it was sizzling like hell, so much so that when I tried adjusting the patty as to cook the other side and pour gravy, I was like this:

"OW."

"Tsk! Dammit!"

"JESUS CHRIST"

"OKAY HOW THE HELL DID THAT EVEN REACH MY FACE"

…among other things. It tasted alright, but nothing that blew my mind. It is pretty oily, though. Bleh. Good foresight on my part for ordering bottomless iced tea. Afterwards, we went on to watch the movie we planned on watching, Tangled, in 3-D. Before doing so, we got ourselves frozen yogurt that tastes more like ice cream from Golden Spoon. I got a flavor that was called old-fashioned vanilla IIRC, with smores and marshmallow cream as toppings. A recipe to get sugar high, I swear XD;; Went off to see Tangled, which is by the way an awesome movie, even though some things are to be expected because of Disney's format in making movies. In contradiction to that, they actually have some comedy you really will laugh at because they themselves know their format and WILL do the unexpected. Great twist on the tale, very funny, action…romantic *sigh*…yep, Disney. Also, quoting my brother, Rapunzel is Chuck Norris near the end. XD

Well, we went home after that. I went to sleep. Woke up for today. Have yet to get some serious work done on my projects. Oh well, felt good sharing this and actually blogging, might as well stop my break XD

My friend Shen brought me to Wee Nam Kee in Ayala Triangle last last week to try their Hainanese Chicken. This one is a combo of roasted and steamed. Their specialty tasted clean and fresh, serving was large for two people.

Before Wee Nam Kee, I was enjoying my visits in Orchard Road in Megamall for their Hainanese chicken too. Although lately, the chicken has become bony and presentation is not so nice.

I miss eating ice cream and gelato but recently, I enjoyed a cup of yoghurt with a golden plastic spoon.

For dessert, Shen and I had yoghurt at Golden Spoon, also in Ayala Triangle. They have a few selection for yoghurt while several toppings to choose from. Mine had almonds topping while Shen had berries.

I love mojito but I found my second love in this margarita.

My friend Sarita, who is based in Singapore invited me in Greenbelt on her long weekend visit in the country. Upon her and her boyfriends recommendation, I tried the Presidente Margarita at Chilis. It was one of those cocktail drinks that sounded good when you say it and tasted even better when you sip it.

Almost everyone in the table had a Presidente Margarita. Thanks for the generous treat Sarita! See you again very soon.

After my soccer game on Saturday we went to Golden Spoon for frozen yogurt with my friend Isabella. Leo had vanilla and strawberry it was good but wasn’t that good. I had chocolate and vanilla it was delicious. I wanted it in a cone and they put it in a cup.  They also had golden spoons that you use to eat.

“Should we have Golden Spoon before or after we look around?”, we asked ourselves. The dilemma: if we ate before we looked around, we were still full from lunch. If we ate after, we would be too full for dinner. Yes, these sorts of problems were what worried us the most, but for some reason we didn’t really give much thought to, eating AFTER was the unanimous decision.

I brought that bag along with me believing that I would need a place to put all my GH finds in, but I was terribly unsuccessful. I left the place with just one shirt to my complete and utter disappointment. Thank god for Golden Spoon, which is officially my new favorite yogurt place. The Cake Batter was – and I’m not exaggerating this time – heavenly, to say the least. We didn’t even have ours topped with anything and it was THAT good. I could have it everyday… the only problem is there’s no Golden Spoon where I live.

Each small (8oz.) serving cost us Php155.00, plus an extra Php20 for the pecans on Pointyman’s yogurt.  What was amazing about this was that none of them tasted like your usual flavored yogurt because it perfectly resembled ice cream.  Don’t get me wrong, I love yogurt but finding a version which tastes like ice cream is like hitting the jackpot!

Acclaimed chef Jean Christophe Novelli has expressed great sadness at the news of food-critic Egon Ronay’s death, aged 94, on Saturday. Jean Christophe spoke yesterday from his 14th Century Hertfordshire farmhouse – “I was always grateful to Egon, who noticed me at an early age and gave me official recognition. He was a regular customer of mine as well as a loyal supporter, and I remember with great fondness my times with him”.

Egon originally spotted Jean in 1989 when Jean working in Devon for Keith Floyd. Egon and his long-term right hand man Mario Wyn-Jones awarded Jean-Christophe his prestigious “Outstanding Dessert of the Year” title in 1991 and presented him with the rare Golden Spoon. Jean has since been well-known for his exceptional desserts, as well as intricate spun sugar creations, which truly resemble works of art. “When I think of Egon, what first springs to mind is how exacting he was, and fair – he didn’t have any favourites, it was always about the standard of the food. I have enjoyed a close relationship with him since we first met and have a huge respect for him and his work. He has done so much for this country’s catering, chef and restaurant scene, he really was a true factor for change for UK dining”.

So over the week:

Tuesday: Family dinner at david’s tea house and krispy kreme for prebirthday. Lemon chicken tasted like ceelin syrup though. :/

Wednesday. I made it to Block B (yey!), got enlisted to third year (yey-yey!) and got Dean Jara’s CivPro class (un-yey! :S). Also: My birthday and I had mcnuggets. :D

Thursday: is HAPPY DAY with Carlo at Eastwood. I never knew pigs could fly, seriously! Full slab of baby back ribs at The Flying Pig was amazing with homemade pork and beans and fries to boot. :D Three little pigs tale really never fails. Plus: Golden Spoon, the fanciest froyo ever! My cheesecake yoghurt with Andes Mint and Cookie Dough in Kiddie Cup was overpriced!! :x Cheesecake yoghurt is just sour ice cream with no sour on it, and it felt like we’re cheated. Chocolate yoghurt tasted like Wendy’s frosty. But glad they dint scrimp on toppings, and thank god for mint! Will try melted mallow next visit. Carlo also took lovely pictures of dancing fountains. Also: three musketeers with mint and twix from gl! Not that it takes much to impress me, but thursday was almost absolutely remarkable. ^___^

Friday. Eye Check up! And charann :: 600 grade on my left and 550 on right eye. Whew. From 500 both, I thought I’ll be blinded at 700+ each. Not so bad after all. ;)

So this is pretty much my bday week. And next week is FTW-school-week and I would really like to end my summer in a good note. Hello Lord, are You listening?? (see entry up). Also: pictures!

As I search for happiness and health, I found myself Googling just that, with surprising results.

Popsicles.

The first website that appeared in my search for “health and happiness” was http://www.happyandhealthy.com, purveyors of friendly-looking (not to mention delicious-looking) popsicles. Some look creamy, some more icy, all yummy. Since I live in Phoenix, where today’s high was around 100 degrees, this was especially appealing.

But more than the desire to indulge in a delicious snack, it got me thinking about simple pleasures. More specifically, I spend lots of my time Googling and meditating and ruminating on what it means to be happy, and what it means to be healthy. Could the answer have been an Otter Pop, and it was in front of me this whole time, right there in my freezer section?

I’m not saying this was some kind of divine gastronomical intervention, some kind of message from the Universe that I need to spend more time with frozen goods to achieve enlightenment. What it could mean is that, maybe, we could lighten up a little. Summers as a little kid were easy, long, wonderful. And we ate a lot of popsicles, along with fresh fruit. We ran around the neighborhood all day, and well into the evening. We swam. We played well with others. 

We were happy. And it was easy, effortless.

Also, another possible message (divine, frozen, or otherwise) here is that it’s ok to have your popsicle and eat it, too. In the grand scheme of sweet treats, enjoying a creamy, fruit-filled popsicle on a hot day is a pretty stinking healthy one. Or, if you live in the Southwest, you can try some Golden Spoon fro yo (I love you, Golden Spoon!).

It was funny to be reminded, in such a random way, that healthy and happy aren’t mutually exclusive.

In fact, they’re downright inextricably entwined. And it couldn’t be more refreshing.
