That’s just a little of how i feel right now.  Figured out how to link pages on my website.  GoLive! is set up a little different from Dreamweaver.  Obviously, since it was created by different companies.  Adobe only consumed macromedia suite and assimilated it.  Which is totally cool.  I love all things adobe.

The problem:  My trial version of Fetch has expired, and I am one seriously broke little lady.  Have to wait until next friday before I have any cash to speak of.  Poopie!

I’ve been writing though! I have kept my word: no re-writes, no editing, nada.  Just pen (and pencil) and paper.  I left my notebook at the bux this afternoon and drove back just now to retrieve it.

I still have the plague.  But i’m not really sleepy.  I feel invigorated by the task at hand.

Time to stop stalling and return to the task.  Write Julie, write!!

Dagens rapport: Vi åkte till OnOff med dotterns trasiga mobil. Tack vare den “onödiga” försäkringen så kommer vi bara att behöva betala 195:- för lagning alternativt ny mobil. Jag kan alltså rekommendera en sån där försäkring om ni köper prylar till halvvilda ungar. Samtidigt inköptes en enkel mobil som det bara går att ringa och smsa med för 360:-. Den får bli familjens reserv när de andra går sönder, tappas bort eller stjäls. Efter det så stod matinhandling på listan. Hemkomst och lunch. Sedan hade jag planerat att avdammifiera hela huset. Jag skulle bara sätta på mig mysbyxor innan. Det var där problemet uppstod. Sängen. Den såg så inbjudande ut så jag var bara tvungen att lägga mig för att vila en stund. Då kan ni räkna ut vad som händer när jag, en mycket trött människa, lägger sig att vila. Rätt! Jag somnade som ett litet barn och sov i en timme. Är fortfarande inte riktigt vaken men jag har dammsugit huset (ibland önskar jag att vi bodde i en lägenhet).

Nu har jag gått min bloggpromenad och om ett tag ska vi äta bakpotatis med en smaskig röra som maken rörde ihop. Ha ha ha, ibland är jag bara för kul – inte alls. Ikväll ska jag plugga GoLive for Dummies samtidigt som Robinson åbäkar sig på TVn. Ambitionen är att kunna få ihop en snygg och lättarbetad hemsida. Ni kan sluta skratta nu.

Ute ser det så skönt ut, om man är inne alltså . Solen skiner och värmer genom rutan men sticker man ut näsa så drar man omgående tillbaka den. 5 – 6 grader och iskalla vindar. Usch! Så jag tänker bjuda på en bild från i somras så att vi blir påminda om vad som komma skall. Vad jag längtar…

I mentioned in the previous post that I am a graphic design major. Graphic design also happens to be something I really enjoy doing – lucky me! I’ve been doing some sort of graphic design for as long as I can remember, starting with drawing and illustrating. Around the age of 14-ish I was introduced to Photoshop through my friend’s dad who is a photographer in the local newspaper. His dad showed us how to use the clone stamp, and we ended up putting our own premature faces on the bodies of buff Chippendales. Funny.

Ever since that day when I saw myself with a shiny sixpack posing in a purple speedo (looking back at it, it was really gay), I knew that altering the world in pictures was right up my alley. A few years of frequent photoshopping later I got accepted to the media program at my high school of choice. Three years of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, GoLive and Final Cut Pro followed. It was like a wet dream.

After graduating high school, I realized that the luxury of choice made me unsure of which path to follow. Should I become a photographer? Film maker? Graphic designer? I had no clue, so I went with plan B: one year in the army to think about it.

One year and many miles of walking, endless hours of cleaning and some really cool sessions at the shooting range later, I was still not sure. I’d had enough of green clothes and abusing CO’s so I fled to Sweden. At the University of Karlstad in the city with the same name I studied film science and visual narrative through comic books for one year. Halfway through my year in Sweden I decided to follow my dream to go abroad for school. The choice was obvious, I was going to the US. The country my dad went to when he was 19, and then again years later. This was the county where the stories took place, the stories he’d told me so many times.

Influenced by too many American movies I set my mind on California. Originally looking into photography schools, I ended up applying for a bunch of regular State Universities. Then one sunny day in April 2007, I got a letter welcoming me as a student at the California State University, Fresno. I was going to be a graphic design student.

So far the best decision in my life was buying that plane ticket, and getting on that plane. Even though I thought I wanted to do photography school, some of my best shots I’ve taken due to graphic design assignments.

At the moment, I am lucky enough to work as a graphic designer on campus (creating posters, logos and fliers for a 22,000 student body), I am doing graphics for a newly started fight gear company called Violence Alliance, I am doing graphics for the very talented Norwegian DJ Kr:ystall (his MySpace should be up soon) and I have been working with my friend Marc and his company All American Beerpong. I feel lucky.

Veo en BlogVecindad la nueva apuesta de Microsoft en el terreno del diseño mas orientado al web, si bien es cierto que a travez de los años no ha habido un competidor real en ese campo, desde los principios con Dreamweaver y Flash de Macromedia acaparando el recien nacido campo del html y despues de la multimedia y contenidos interactivos, Adobe hizo su batalla con GoLive, ahora ya casi descontinuado, pero no logro lo que Macromedia. Años mas tarde Adobe adquiere Macromedia y se convierte en el monstruo del diseño en todas sus facetas, dejando muy muy atras a Corel que si bien fue muy fuerte en el diseño vectorial en los 90s ahora es mas bien un programa viejo y sin actualizaciones, ya es la sombra de lo que fue y su recien estrenado X4 parece que sera el requiem de esta compañia.

Pero entonces donde entra Microsoft, pues despues de muchas versiones beta y como parte de su actualizacion de su programa FrontPage, llega Microsoft Expression Web que es el programa fuerte de la suite Microsoft Expression, un editor WYSIWYG, que ademas viene acompañado por otros programas multimedia, incluyendo uno enfocado al diseño vectorial, sera interesante ver como este gigante del software intenta dar batalla en un campo en el que no ha sobresalido historicamente, el campo visual. Veamos.

I have finally decided that it is time to build a website to showcase my work. I have been putting it off for over a year. I have designed many websites over the past few years and have decided that “I hate it”. As a former art director and graphics designer, one would think that it would be just another creative “thing” for me. In the past the web sites that I designed were for doctors, consultants, non-art related businesses. Real boring stuff. I even took a course to learn dreamweaver so that I would not have to deal with”code”, but I learned nothing. (the teacher only wanted to teach color theory to all these techies in the class as I was the only artist). So with that all said, I dread the job ahead of me. But I know that it is important for me to help promote my artwork. If anyone knows of a create program that can help me do this task, I am all ears?

Ήταν αναμενόμενο κάποια στιγμή μετά την απόκτηση της Macromedia από την Adobe. Δεν είχε νόημα να αναπτύσσει και να διαθέτει δύο διαφορετικά προϊόντα, ανταγωνιστικά μεταξύ τους. Με την απόκτηση της Macromedia, η Adobe βρέθηκε να έχει στον κατάλογο των προϊόντων της το GoLive ( δικό της ) και το Dreamweaver ( της Macromedia ), δύο προϊόντα για την WYSIWYG δημιουργία ιστοσελίδων.

Η Adobe, λοιπόν, αποφάσισε τη διακοπή της ανάπτυξης και διάθεσης του Adobe GoLive. To Dreamweaver επικράτησε και πιθανότατα όχι άδικα. Το Dreamweaver κατάφερε να διατηρήσει την πολύ καλή του φήμη, να παραμείνει ένα σοβαρό προϊόν και να συμβαδίσει με τις εξελίξεις και νέες τάσεις των τελευταίων χρόνων.

FYI. Adobe has officially “end-of-lifed” GoLive. Makes sense.

I just read at Mac world that Adobe annouced the end of Go Live!!! I tried to found out some information at Adobe website, but not a clue. It seems that Adobe ceased development and sales of GoLive today. Why? Dreamweaver is the answer. It is the best solution for the web development. So if you are one of those using GoLive is better to start learning how to work on Dreamweaver, cause you will have lots of things to learn. By the way, Adobe will be offering a USD 199 upgrade for registered GoLive users to switch to Dreamweaver. In my opinion this is not “offering”, but… selling at a smaller cost…

Since the last entry on this blog I have been working almost constantly on Dreamweaver. This premiere Web design software program is not that complicated, but just like GoLive back in its first days with me, it wasn’t made to fit my brainwaves.

Now I thought I had it all figured out as far as creating and updating files and posting them is concerned. My basic pages are now in Dreamweaver as evidence. Go to www.hodi.com for an example. I even knew how to load images, how to follow CSS (cascading fall sheets) and how to use tables as a design grid.

This morning, however, the image routine escapes me. I know how to load an image. You go to the image on your computer and use the “image” icon to drag it in. Voila! It also appears on the list of “assets,” proving to me that it’s at the ready. Nope. There are two or three other ways to load images. They seemed to have worked before, but not now.

Even with my trials, the best source of assistance is Dreamweaver CS3: The Missing Manual, by David Sawyer McFarland. I bought mine from Amazon.com with overnight shipping for less than $50. In that paperback took are 1,000 pages of well-written and well-organized material. It is not the book’s fault that the “truth” about Dreamweaver has not fully penetrated my skull. However, I don’t give up readily. Me and DW will be friends some day.

Jubelruf durchs Haus tönte. Auch meine Erklärung worüber ich mich so freue brachte nicht viel mehr als ein “Aha” zu Tage.

Darum erzähle ich hier auch noch, was ich kann, vielleicht freut sich ja jemand mit und wenn nicht dann freu ich mich eben allein *püh*

Seit ewigen Zeiten versuche ich in Adobe GoLive ein Foto versetzt über ein anderes Foto, eine Grafik oder alternativ auch über einen Textteil zu legen. Fast habe ich aufgegeben und eben doch nochmal was getestet, von dem ich dachte ich hätte es schon lange erfolglos ausprobiert…

…und es geht. Das ich das noch erleben darf *leicht_übertreib*

Achso, das hätte ich auch herausfinden können, wenn ich mal eine Anleitung gelesen hätte oder danach in einschlägigen Foren gesucht hätte? Ich möchte sowas aber immer gerne alleine herausfinden, so nach dem Motto Versuch macht kluch

Ich muss ich nur noch herausfinden ob man das Foto dann auch drehen kann, ich fürchte aber dafür müsste man das Grafikprogramm bemühen?! Schaun wir mal…

Today I received the following error message in Adobe GoLive CS2 when I tried to edit a file:

Could not mark in use index.html. Version Cue reported an error. Error: 13 The requested operation could not be performed because it would override a conflicting change.

Odd, since the file was not checked out by anyone. Searching the web, I found mention of this problem in the Adobe Forums under Could not mark in use index.html. For that user, the fix involved erasing the problem file and copying it back, presumably from the Version Cue server.

Unfortunately, every file in my project seemed to be affected. (But only this project, no others.) So I decided to rename the original project folder and completely recreate it from Version Cue, which I did by choosing “New” and then “Connect to Site” in GoLive.

That did it—problem solved!

In Adobe GoLive CS2, non-breakable spaces ( ) are sometimes replaced with normal spaces, typing option-space does not create a non-breakable space, and ampersand character codes are converted into Mac-equivalent symbols.

This appears to be due to a bug in how GoLive handles HTML pages that are encoded using the utf-8 charset. If a page is encoded in utf-8, whenever the page is edited in Layout mode all HTML character codes (e.g., ° for °) are converted to their equivalent Macintosh symbol. Non-breakable spaces ( ) are converted to regular spaces. The Macintosh characters will display properly in GoLive, but not in other browsers and/or operating systems. The removal of the non-breakable spaces may cause formatting problems.

Unfortunately, it appears that GoLive CS2 defaults to the utf-8 (“Multilingual”) character set. In previous versions of GoLive, HTML pages defaulted to iso-8859-1 (“Western”). Thus even if you are not purposely creating multilingual pages, you may run into this problem.

If your web pages are written in English, you can get around this by changing the default charset back to iso-8859-1. Choose “Preferences…” from the GoLive menu, click on “Encodings”, expand the “Roman” encoding, and then click the “Default” radio button to the right of “iso-8859-1″. If you’ve already created pages using the utf-8 charset, you can change them back to iso-8859-1 by expanding the “Head” section of the page, clicking on the flag icon, and then clicking on the “iso-8859-1″ radio button in the Inspector window.

If your web pages are written in a language other than English, you may be able to get around this problem by choosing a different charset. For example, if your web pages are written in traditional Chinese, try using “big5″ instead of utf-8.
