If we were still at Primary School you fancy Spurs to win about 12-1 this weekend as Wigan beat Vill

If we were still at Primary School you fancy Spurs to win about 12-1 this weekend as Wigan beat Villa 3-1 on the opening day and we put 9 past them last Sunday. But we’re not and despite all our euphoria we’re going to have to put in a decent shift to get something from the game tomorrow.

The good news is that we have no further injury concerns so I’d expect an unchanged side the bad news is Carew is fit and he is a handful. Dawson may need to take him as he is more powerful in the air than Woodgate. This is a good test for our centre back pairing and I hope to see them acquit themselves well. Gomes will certainly be busier and he needs to be careful with his distribution as giving Villa the ball may cause more problems than giving it to Wigan last week.

This is the sort of game we need points from to cement a real challenge and going forward I expect to see some good counter attacking play. Lennon will certainly be double teamed unless Kranjcar can free him by being a nuisance. If the balance I called for last week continues that gives us more of an edge and a greater degree of options. Palacios will be key in the centre of the park and it is up to the others to close down, hassle and tackle to keep him in position and not resorting to ambitious tackles.

This is where Lennon has improved so much. Not only has his crossing improved but his desire to get back and challenge has made us so much more difficult to break down from the opposition’s left flank. We can expect Azza and JD to go flying if they show a clean pair of heels and I hope that we continue to play football on the deck rather than go straight to Crouchy up front with the long ball.

My line up: Those that started last week.

Prediction: Despite being told by colleagues “you’ll win 3-1” I’m more cautious and thinking more the draw.

We’ve already seen Robbie Keane score 4 goals this season against Burnley so to expect to see someon

We’ve already seen Robbie Keane score 4 goals this season against Burnley so to expect to see someone score more in a game would have been more than a little bit greedy. But we got it and what’s more all in the space of 45 minutes for he wasn’t breaking the offside trap in the first.

Firstly the team. I called for width and balance and got it. Keane was rested and I bet he enjoyed his drive home tonight – Not! Lennon on the other hand will be enjoying his having returned to the side and putting in a devastating shift which provided goals for firstly Crouch, then Defoe before helping himself to one and Kranjcar put in a superb performance carrying on from where he left off against Sunderland. His vicious shot which became the ninth goal was really deserved to round off his best performance in a Spurs shirt.

And really in the second half they were all outstanding passing it around at will and taking the game by the scruff of its neck and forcing home the advantage. Had we played like that throughout, instead of allowing Wigan back into the game in the latter stages of the first half we would have broken the Premier League highest score record. Granted we did not keep a clean sheet and as it was a hand ball goal a West Ham friend of mine has already texted suggesting the game should be replayed but a momentary lapse could not detract from the sort of performance all football fans dream of.

In my preview I did suggest that if we got the show on the road we could score more than my 2-0. I said to G before the start this could be good today having seen the team sheet and so it proved. After a quick start which saw long balls floated in for Lennon to attack and deliver deadly crosses which produced an early goal for Crouch and a second near miss.

Then there was a quick corner which saw a ball laid across the face of goal for Tommy to hit a powerful shot which was unstoppable and just wide. Palacios took a ball and carried it before hitting another powerful drive that Kirkland acrobatically saved at his top corner.

At the other end Wigan were also attacking and Gomes was made to take crosses and make saves one from a long throw out of his own that was picked off and driven low to his left corner.

At half time we questioned why we had let go of our early grip and could we pick up our play once more to get the second goal. G felt a rocket from Harry would put it right and as usual he was on the button! After the second goal the game burst into life with a flurry of Defoe goals running onto through balls and finishing in style. And that was history of the second half. From the Paxton Road you thought on occasions he had gone too wide only for him to rifle it into the far corner.

Lennon left the proceedings to much deserved applause and Bentley came on scoring an excellent goal from 25 yards from a free kick which we understand is credited to Kirkland as it came back onto his back from the crossbar.

Can it get any better? Probably not. You don’t want to criticise on such a day but we did give the ball away too easily in the first half which might have been punished by a stronger opponent but you can only beat what has been put in front of you and those sloppy passes were made in an effort to provide the type of entertainment that Harry knows Spurs fans expect to see. I’ve seen 10 in a game before at White Hart Lane but that was 6-4 against Reading. I didn’t see the 9 against Bristol Rovers when we were in Division 2 as it was then so this is the pinnacle in scoring on my many visits. I loved it and congratulate the team for delivering a result far beyond any of our expectations at the kick off.

So what now for Robbie; how doe he get back into the side? And Jenas and what about Modric who we understand is nearing fitness? Performance is the answer, they may have to wait but they will know that none of those who performed so well today can be dropped without good reason for the next game. This team looked miles better than the starting line up for Sunderland and got the result in confident fashion. That’s what this game is about. Come on You Spurs!

Until Gomes brought down Darren Bent and then saved the resulting penalty the atmosphere was a littl

Until Gomes brought down Darren Bent and then saved the resulting penalty the atmosphere was a little flat at The Lane this afternoon. However, that moment plus a couple more saves and the introduction of Niko Kranjcar provided the spark both on and off the pitch to produce a performance that saw out the victory against Sunderland. But it could have been oh so different!

Gomes brings down Bent, is sent off, Bent scores to silence the crowd and Spurs blow lead to second home defeat. I think this is where Steve Bruce will be coming from when MoTD starts later this evening. He may also have something to say about Robbie Keane’s opener. From Block 53 you could not tell what had happened. It seemed that the chance had gone and then it was in the back of the net. We couldn’t see and I missed the replay at half time.

Keane looked lively in a surprising starting line up. To my mind Harry is struggling to keep his main men happy. Having lost Defoe to suspension and being bloody annoyed with him he knew that he needed him back after two blanks in premier league fixtures. Crouch had done nothing wrong so he could not be benched and Keane is the skip.

Then in midfield we see the Three Amigos once again and no winger, and Woodgate in for Bassong. “My team so I’m telling you lot (supporters) that my selections were right last week etc”. We won so he was right – and who am I to criticise – but we had no width and it showed badly in the first half in which Sunderland and particularly Steed made us look ordinary and not good value for our lead.

If Lennon had been fit he would have played; so Bentley is his back up where was he? Where were the crosses coming from to use Crouchy’s height? We didn’t really see them. As we drove home we mused about the players thoughts on a side. They must question their absence. Bentley surely must and will undoubtedly want a way out come the window. Others must look at the lack of balance we felt but figure “I’m in so what the heck”.

I’d asked for Hutton over Corluka and Charlie was led a merry dance in the first period being nut megged more than once by Steed. I like the guy but he is out of sorts at the present time. Hopefully a friendly for Croatia will do the trick.

I’d asked for Woodgate and he didn’t really impress. I’d asked for Dawson and he came on after another King injury and looked good in the air. His distribution was not as good as in previous games but he does get given the ball when no one else can find anything and has to have a go. I want to see this partnership develop.

I’d asked for Kranjcar and Bale and got a substitute appearance from Niko that offered much. However, my suggested midfield was ridiculed as being too lightweight and attacking and on today’s performance they were right I was wrong. Wilson was out of sorts and looked uncomfortable in possession a lot of the time. Had he been on his own with Bentley, Niko and Bale we would have been overrun.

So were Jenas and Tommy better than last week? Well, yes they were but you would expect that as Sunderland are not in the top 4 and play at a more acceptable pace. Tommy played the ball around well and scored a cracking volley to add to the one he got against Everton. My faithful driver reckons he should score as many as Lampard (without the pens) and there may be something in this.

JJ on the other hand is a more complicated character. There is a lot about him that is good but some of him that is bad. When he opens up and runs he looks great but to me he always looks like he doesn’t quite know what to do with the ball when he has it. I felt he was ok and that’s about it. What I do think is that he is the best trainer the club has. Always impressive great stamina etc and that helps him keep himself in successive Manager’s thoughts!

And so to Defoe? The prodigal son returns after 2 weeks of revising the offside law and yes he’s offside about a hundred times. His ability to keep onside mirrors his inability to keep under the speed limit and will surely cost him his international place if he is not careful. He had a few shots, worked well with both Crouchy and Keane but it never really opened up for him.

Crouch played OK, had a few crosses from Benoit who was also a little under the weather and wearing long sleeves and gloves and Robbie looked lively playing just behind the front two in a roving role. I thought he was unlucky to be subbed but that becomes a predictable tactic for us.

Ledley; injured again, played pretty well running out a few times when options did not open up immediately and handled the Sunderland front men adequately. And so to Gomes.

Another injury today and treatment in the first half but some good catches and fine saves in the second half. He’s a trier that is for sure – sometimes getting the ball away too quickly and putting pressure on defenders but coming on well if he is protected properly. The penalty was him not being great at coming out but the resulting save marvellous – and he loves it when the crowd sing his name.

So Bent missed the pen and Steed looked good – what of other ex Spurs? Andy Reid was pretty good all afternoon and looked lighter than when he played at WHL, Campbell was pretty anonymous and Fulop made a hash of a clearance but was OK apart from that.

Harry proves me wrong and we get the three points. Well done Harry. But we did make hard work of it, lacked width and needed a bit of creativity. Come back soon Modric and Lennon!

Finally, I’ve had tuition on my phone to be able to tweet if i feel the need and tried it out at the Lane this afternoon. Hope you liked it!

(...) yeah shut the **** up.'

That wasn’t really what I was expecting to be honest. Despite notable absences from the Sunderland side, and to a certain extent a lack of bite in our midfield today’s game was one that we won’t be forgetting for a while. It’s safe to say that it was somewhat of an aggressive affair with both sides putting boots where perhaps they shouldn’t have been and this incision found its way into the general scheme of play. Ultra-special mention belongs to our perennial shot stopper Gomes who today once again showed us why the majority of pundits are worryingly biased; despite managing pointing out obvious mistakes he has made. Fact is he is a top-top keeper and for every blooper he makes he makes several saves that would find their way past the majority of keepers in our league. The fact that he continued today after taking a Bent boot to his shoulder is testament to the fact that he gives 110% percent at any given time. If every player in the lilywhite showed that kind of focus we might have been in resurgence a few years before now.

On the note of Bent; he was really going for it today, (this further exasperated by Capello’s appearance in the stand and the obvious target of stating a claim on a starting berth in direct competition with the likes of Defoe and Crouch). His efforts however were in vain as Gomes along with Woodgate kept the lad quiet. The most notable of course would be the penalty taken charismatically by the Brazilian. In terms of our overall performance we were lucky that they did lack the finishing edge as for the most part they bossed the game in midfield with their mobility; with old favourite Malbranque looking especially lively. Goals from Keane, (another scramble but welcome nonetheless), and Huddlestone (always great to see his rocket shot rip into the net), put the game beyond doubt. Safe to say that this is proof that any player on the pitch can win a game almost single-handedly and today it was Gomes’ time to shine.

Ratings

Gomes – 9.6 – About as good as it gets from Gomes; sublime performance today turned a tie which could have been into a foregone conclusion.

Everyone Else – 6.5 – Everyone else did great, but in comparison to the big brazilian hardly comparable.

Next up: Wigan at home. Yep. Let’s keep engine rolling.

After last Saturday’s turgid performance which Spurs team will take the field against Sunderland? I’

After last Saturday’s turgid performance which Spurs team will take the field against Sunderland? I’m hoping one that is ready to do the business again and get our show back on the road.

What do I want to see from them then?

Firstly, a balanced midfield, then a defensive unit that throughout the team closes down opponents properly so that they cannot easily get the ball into areas that can hurt us. A goalkeeper who has little to do and what he does have does competently. A strike force that get the ball played to feet and resort to Peter Crouch later in the game – if needed! And lastly the start of a defensive partnership that will bring continuity week in week out to the side.

My side is as follows: Gomes, Hutton, Dawson, Woodgate, Assou-Ekotto, Bentley, Palacios, Kranjcar, Bale, Keane, Defoe.

I think Lennon will miss out so go for Hutton as I believe he suits Bentley better than Corluka who does the same with Lennon. Corluka is also under the weather and may miss the game.

I go for Dawson and Woodgate because I see them as our future. Bassong has done nothing wrong but injury means he misses out. King had a stinker so let Daws come back who was good against Stoke and Everton.

I drop both Jenas and Huddlestone as they did little of any use last Saturday and we need some balance. If Harry can’t choose between them then drop them both and let the rest get on with it.

I put back Defoe after suspension and play Keane because his movement creates space for Defoe to operate in. It also gives an option if things are not working – but if they are don’t keep changing Keane.

Prediction 3-1 to Spurs but it might take time to wear them down.

Good afternoon everybody! I thought it would be a good opportunity to do another live match report as this is naturally such an important match. The big news to start off with is that we’re playing in a 4-3-3 again with an attacking trident of Bentley, Crouch and Keano. The midfield will certainly have their work cut out for them today.

1- We’re off in the first derby of the season. Arsenal kick off and will be looking to hold the ball for as long as it takes to make an attacking move. Palacios concedes a freekick. Arsenal seem very hungry today; we’ll have to match that to have any chance of taking the game. They pass through our middle Bendtner manages to take an opportunity that flies over the upright.

3 – Song concedes a corner under pressure from our midfield trio. Early chance to capitalize. Not the best delivery from Bentley and the play fizzes out. Suggestion of handball on his part also ignored.

5 – Arshavin runs down the left flank and offers a few problems with his pace and trickery. We’ll have to keep an eye on him; as he is capable of anything at anytime. Arshavin’s strength continues to cause problems. God damn you Zenit. If we would have bought Pavlyuchenko AND him who knows how good that striking partnership would be with a chance to gel.

8 – Bentley with a bit of a ridiculous tackle runs the risk of receiving a card here. Seems he might be talking himself out of a hole though; should probably have received one to be brutally honest. ONe man down in defense for next phase of play. They’re compressing our play loads; as Bentley goes for another wondergoal. Didn’t go in.

11- Our movement doesnt look as deft as Arsenal’s but we are moving the ball well. Will have to make sure that we break through their back four somehow.

13- Arshavin has a shot at Gomes after a run from Clichy down the left. Could have been far worse if we’d have made some real contact with it.

15 – Assou Ekotto receives a warning from the ref for a pretty crazy barge; leads to a fre kick which Van Persie loopes in. Misses everyone and nearly finds it’s way in at the far post. Arsenal’s play seems really compressed too; with the majority of action seeming to happen in the centre third. Saying this they managed well to bring the play forward; primarily due to their centreback’s insistence to support their winers. We need to follow suit as our attacking options are looking increasingly isolated.

18- Bentley throws a long ball up to Crouch who threads a header through to Keano; just a foot’s length away from getting a foot on the shot. Arshavin breaks from an intercepted pass; his cross finds Fabregas who is denied by the Octopus! That’s quite enough of that thank you.

21- Ledley breaks through and sets up a move. Runs forward to support the attack as the ball is given to Bentley. Strong cross that troubles Almunia but no dice. A goal for them might damage us; but a goal for us I feel at this stage would only send them into overdrive. Perhaps a bit too early. Wouldn’t complain though.

25- Very scrappy indeed from Fabregas; but nerves seem to be taking over in this early kick off. He loses the ball to Palacios who sets up Bentley for a wasted cross. Perhaps a bit too anxious to get the ball away.

26 – Keano manages to get his head to the ball from a throw in play. Not troubling Almunia though. Could this be the first boring NLD? I hope not. Sagna breaks down the right sets up Van Persie; sloppy clearance from BAE leads to a chance for Van Persie at a very tight angle. Wide of the upright.

30- The main positive to take at this stage is that we’re taking the best possession, though the main issue is that we’re not exactly doing any thing with it. A goal before the break would be a godsend.

31- The right hand side is a flashpoint; Keano isnt looking too good defensively and BAE is visibly nervous about this. They’re able to get up there far too easily. They dominate a spell of possession just outside of our box; Arshavin has a crack which goes wide. The differance I feel is that their attacking play is very slow and methodical whereas we’re too eager to run at them without any back up. A wasp without a sting at the moment I’m afraid. Lennon could have perhaps made a big differance today.

35- Corluka gets the idea and runs on the overlap, latches onto a ball from Bentley. The cross was good but intercepted and taken by Almunia. Arshavin is getting way too much of the ball; how is he so much stronger than Keano. Eduardo comes on for the injured Bendtner. Perhaps a blessing in disguise after his recent form?

37 – Great play from Spurs; really good passing move nearly results in Keano getting a break on goal. Would Pavlyuchenko have had that? Assou Ekotto puts a shocking cross in which is then taken by Bentley and redistributed into a dangerous area; Almunia collects.

39- Van Persie nearly gets on the end of a ball again from the right hand side; BAE is looking increasingly anxious. Might not be his day today.

41- GOAL ARSENAL – Van Persie scores from a throw in; Gomes possibly showing error for a lack of a reaction save.

43- GOAL ARSENAL. – Fabregas runs through the midfield as he latches onto a pass from kickoff. Nightmare situation; but a call to arms nonetheless.

45- The play peters out to half time.

Half Time Analysis: Serious lapses on the right hand side and after the first goal would suggest more than a few chinks in the armour. What’s worse is that we’re only just looking like we have any kind of attacking threat. Something special will be needed to bring us back into this one. Safe to say we shouldn’t be too aggrieved due to the fact that we’re missing key players; but the lack of mental strength after going one down; is never more evident than today. Especially when you have players like Arshavin and Fabregas running at you.

45- Slight system change by the looks of it as well as an increase in urgency. Bentley is now playing his trade on the left hand side of the pitch; with Keano taking a more central role. Redknapp obviously feel he needs a bit of bite down the centre. Keane for me has lost that yard now though that made him the player he was. Prove me wrong Rob, prove me wrong.

48- Spells of possession going either way. We’re playing a bit like we’re feeling sorry for ourselves. Adds ammunition to the fact that I believe that mentality is our main issue. Arsenal have another break on goal after Bassong falls over. Lucky to get away with that one.

52- Gomes deals well with a one on one with Eduardo; leads to an opportunity that we could have taken. Gallas cool and collected under pressure takes the ball away from Keano at the very last second. Bale comes on for Huddlestone to solidify our play into a 4-4-2. Looking alot more comfortable in this system. A hand to the face of Crouch give us a free kick.

57- Bentley and Bake over it. Bentley takes! Almunia with a great save denies Bentley; though it wasn’t destined for the top corner. Corner quickly taken and we have plenty more players up the pitch. We’ll need to make the most of this spell though.

59- GOAL ARSENAL. BAE’s wreckless challenge leads to an advantage. Everyone asleep. Including Gomes. The less said about it the better to be honest.

61- Crouch receives a yellow card for throwing the ball away; frustrated isn’t even the word for it. A break on goal leads to an oppurtunity which is ruled as offside. Keano looking more likely now.

64- Pavlyuchenko comes on for Keano. Masterstroke or desperation from the gaffer. Time will tell. He certainly will enjoy the opportunity to prove himself. Loses the ball with his first touch. certainly looking out of sorts.

66- Eduardo breaks one on one with Gomes; places the ball around him but wide. We’re really looking very flawed at this stage. Probably shaping up to be one that we won’t want to talk about let alone write player ratings for.

73 – Bentley and Crouch seem to be putting a shift in; nice opportunity leads to a header which is taken by Almunia again. We’ve not exactly been testing him too much though apart from a couple of chances.

75- Pavlyuchenko leads a couple of defenders up the garden path and then takes a chance from an acute angle. Good play from the wayward russian. Hoping he gets a goal today there’s something good to take from the game.

77- Vermaelen with a cynical challenge on Charlie. Yellow card. Perhaps a bit of impatience from Arsenal. Arshavin taken off for Eboue. Mind games by isolating Pavlyuchenko perhaps? Probably not.

83- Pressure mounting on us. Could be another before the whistle as Hutton comes on for Charlie in our final throw of the dice. Every opportunity they’ve had they’ve been looking to score. Consolidation in the next few games will be key before we hit the winter window.

87- Some great work from Bale who finds himself caught offiside. Goal disallowed from Pavlyuchenko. Maybe. he’ll still take some heart from it. I’ll be brutally honest; we’re looking like West Ham here. Really, really bad football, (albeit with spells of fluency).

90- BAE reminds us of how badly he’s played today by smashing the ball into row z. The match couldn’t end sooner today. Bentley whips in a free kick Almunia punches. Freekick in a bit of a dangerous area for us. Dealt with by Arsenal for our throw. Bassong falls and will need treatment on his hamstring; seems ok. The perfect end to an absolutely ghoulish game. You wouldn’t know it’s Halloween today would you? Down to ten men too for the final seconds.

FINAL WHISTLE

My god that was awful. Probably one of the worst performances I’ve seen from our team. Singling out anyone in particular for blame would be a disservice to the complete inadequacy of the team on the whole. If we’re really looking at playing the top level; we’re certainly going to have to banish performances like that (despite the result) to the catacombs. A little bit of defensive cohesion and we could have taken a point from the game.

Sunderland at home next; and a return for the focused and inform prodigal son that is Darren Bent. We’ll have to shape up before then or really suffer a setback to this season’s hopes.

I don’t understand a word of it either. What I do know is that whilst ‘The Emperor’ looked sharp tonight in a hold-up role. However he had plenty of chances to place his name on the scoresheet that went wanting. It’s a bit of a shame really, as the game itself was one of the best examples of a completely end to end football match that you’ll see this season. He had his chances but failed to really make an impact in the way that he would have wanted. For the most part I would give him another run out against Arsenal if possible in the last thirty minutes or so. If there is anything to endear yourself to the yid army it would be scoring the winning goal against the gooners in their back yard, (which of course happens to be ours aswell).

As for the returning kings; it’s safe to say that both Bale and especially Bentley have shown a few things to Harry that will keep him thinking. Bentley offered something different on the right in comparison to Lennon; namely a wide midfielder with a spot on delivery, a more mixed style of distribution and a defensive foil. Everything that was expected of him upon his arrival at the club. It’s fair to say that the lad is odds on to start against the scum at the weekend, and as such will strike fear into the heart of Almunia or Mannone or whoever they’re throwing in between the sticks these days.

Bale is someone I have always touted as an option for the left wing especially. This is mainly due to his defensive hesitance as an out and out left-back as he can put in a shift but only really looks comfortable when he is heading forwards with the ball. Tonight he looked at ease and very much in control of things on the left flank. Definitely looking forward to seeing more of the resurgent talent as a specific left sided midfield option; as well as more than adequate cover at left back.

Gomes again today offered more contradictory evidence for the critics; as though he was only tested intermittently, he made a few saves at very important phases in the match that could have turned the momentum of the match against us. What is important though is that he keeps his cool a bit in relation to his distribution; which would have been more fuel for the pundit’s fire; still think that the ridiculous saves he makes would perhaps go past Cudicini; but maybe he doesn’t inspire as much confidence at times as his italian counterpart.

Our overall performance was pleasing; though we did seem to have many problems in relation to making the most of our chances that were endemic in the weekend performance against Stoke. This is certainly something that we’ll need to work on for the rest of the season, as while it’s fair enough that we’re making many chances and winning games. We really have to learn to be more clinical otherwise in matches against the more challenging teams where we find ourselves bereft of chances. This is the difference between good and great sides; the really great sides always look lethal when they have opportunities whereas it’s safe to say at this stage we’re still missing the bite on the end of our bark.

Oh yeah; we won 2-0.

Ratings -

Gomes – 7.2 – The Octopus needs to sort out his distribution; but otherwise another on song performance from the lovable brazilian.

Assou Ekotto – 6.7 – Looked solid throughout the whole match, never really offered any troubling moments. A solid custodian.

Dawson – 6.6 – Made a few vital tackles and looked good; though perhaps needs a little bit more match practice to truly get back into the swing of things.

Bassong – 6.7 – Reliable and looking to offer Woody and Harry a few sleepless nights.

Hutton – 6.6 – I like the look of Hutton going forward; and he seems to be better and better at putting in the tackles where needed; not as reliable as Corluka defensively but much more threatening going forward.

Bale – 6.7- Seemed to get involved a lot with play and increased the pace of proceedings on the left. This deftness was vastly appreciated and his interplay with the centre mids set up some of the best moves of the match. Happy to see him on a winning side.

Huddlestone – 6.6 – Looked much better than he did against Stoke where he found the physicality was a bit too much for him. Some nice passes today and too his goal well; though may need to look at the weaknesses in his games a bit more.

Palacios – 7.3 – All about the show; and didn’t put a foot wrong the whole time. (Well except from one pass but I think we can forgive him for that). Indispensible.

Bentley – 7.4 – Much improved and offered far more variety on the right hand side than we’re used to. My main gripe with out game is that we find ourselves playing quite linearly with Lennon sometimes. Bentley has now opened his box of tricks. A performance against Arsenal could offer Aaron some food for thought.

Keane – 6.2 – Often looked slightly lost in play; though did find himself with a few chances to take. Won a penalty which solidified the result for us. Perhaps needs to sort his head out still, or perhaps dare I say, is just simply on the way out.

Pavlyuchenko – 6.1 – Good link up play and found himself in the position to take a load of chances on goal. None of which came to fruition unfortunately. Whilst there was a fair amount of pressure on the lad to step up today it can be said that Keane and Crouch will be the favourites to start against Arsenal on Saturday.

Stoke are one of the Premier League’s Jekyll and Hyde teams. At The Britannia Stadium they’re a mass

Stoke are one of the Premier League’s Jekyll and Hyde teams. At The Britannia Stadium they’re a massive handful to control and without an early goal against them can give their opponents a massive amount of problems, away they could be a regulation 3 points victory if you are a side looking for a Europa League or better finish.

Granted they are still a nuisance but an early goal forces them out and provides more opportunities. I saw last years game and we won it comfortably once the first goal went in so let’s hope for a decent start tomorrow with a front line of Keane and Crouch.

Stoke have some weapons of their own. James Beattie conspired to down us by half time in Hoddle’s last match in charge against Southampton so we must not give him space and Dave Kitson would for me be a decent fourth striker. My match day mate disagrees but who is Stoke’s top scorer according to the BBC site – none other than Mr Kitson.

I’m hoping that Gomes continues and am unconcerned who plays at centre back for us as they are all good. It will be interesting to see who gets the nod in midfield. Will Wilson get the start forcing a decision between Tommy and JJ or will we keep the Portsmouth wining side? I think Wilson is called for to stamp an early authority on the game. If it were me JJ would drop to the bench leaving Lennon and Niko on the flanks. We may also see the Russian coming off the bench so let’s hope we’re ahead by that stage!

Prediction: Should be a 3-0 but more interested in a clean sheet to improve goal difference before the Arsenal game.

On paper and form this is a victory but that ignores the personalities and scores that go into this

On paper and form this is a victory but that ignores the personalities and scores that go into this match. On a good day the crowd is worth a man to most teams but today expect it to be 2 men in Portsmouth’s favour so we need to quieten them down quickly. Then there is Kevin Prince Boateng. At Spurs a failure, only able to win a yellow card for clumsy challenges but who claimed he was out of position and justified his arguments in his first appearances for Portsmouth. He’ll be keen to show us all the error of our ways in not playing him and then letting him go.

What about Kaboul. A raw talent, now maturing and never tested outside the back four before release; he’ll come back to haunt us for sure – let’s hope its not today!

And Harry (and our management team). He’ll get some stick but will take it like he does at West Ham by staying seated and quiet during the game. Joe Jordan the player would cope and act as the “minder” HR doesn’t want but the Coach Joe looks too nice and possibly a bit vulnerable….

Then there are our Portsmouth imports, Defoe, Crouch and Kranjcar. Expect JD to get abuse but there again he knows all about that from his West Ham departure so that may not upset too much and Crouchy has had more then his fair share of clubs.

Then our ball winner is impounded in Honduras by the military Junta so that he can attend a national celebration. This might be the most telling factor come 5 o’clock. Certainly it allows Harry to avoid a selection dilemma that should see Jenas and Huddlestone sharing central midfield duties rather than fighting for the spare spot. They need to be strong in mind and tackle otherwise we could be in difficulties.

Harry has a dilemma with his keeper. Should Carlo continue or Gomes get the start. I want to see Gomes but I’m not 100% sure about his travelling arrangements during the international break and what time he arrived back after the Brazil games.

Will Ledley be fit to return after injury? We certainly need him but I think he may miss out. Woodgate – despite returning to training and lifting our hopes – does so will Dawson be promoted from the bench in a game that calls out for aerial control. I want to see him back in the side.

I expect to see no changes at full back and for Bassong to be the central defensive partner if Ledley cannot play.

Lennon on the right and Kranjcar on the left will make up my midfield and I would play Keane and Defoe to start with Crouchy dropping to the bench to come on after the hour.

Therefore my perfect start for the game:

Gomes

Corluka Dawson King Assou-Ekotto

Lennon Jenas Huddlestone Kranjcar

Defoe Keane

Bench: Carlo, Hutton, Bale, Crouch, Bassong, Naughton and Palacios (if back)

Predicted result: A Spurs win but not an easy one.

Destes apenas Maicon, Daniel Alves e Elano mantiveram-se no time.

No time titular, apenas três mudanças.

E a mudança do técnico Fernando Suarez, no ataque deu certo.

Dunga was still fresh at the bench, and the Seleção kept winning

It was Dunga’s fifth match on the bench of the Seleção. An this game against Ecuador, on October 10th 2006 at Rasunda Stadium, the place of the first Brazilian Wold Cup title back in 1958, would be the fourth on a sequence of five wins. Dunga would have a start of six undefeated games in the Seleção.

And that was also only the fifth match after Brazil’s loss to the French back in Germany. Of the 14 players that went to the field only eight were on the roster the year before. Lúcio, Juan, Gilberto Silva, Kaká and Robinho started the game and Ronaldinho Gaúcho, Mineiro and Fred entered during the match.

The goalkeeper Gomes, the backs Maicon, Daniel Alves and Adriano, the midfielders Dudu Cearense and Elano and the forward Rafael Sóbis were among Dunga’s attempt to bring new guys to the sqad. Among them only Maicon, Daniel Alves and Elano are still considered in the team, they are called off more often than Ronaldinho Gaúcho, Mineiro and Fred.

Interesting note that after three years and only a couple of players are playing on the same clubs as they were back in 2006. Maicon still in Internazionale and Adriano in Sevilla. Elano and Mineiro had two transfers in that span. Robinho made a change and he seems to regret so much as he intends to move away from Manchester next summer. However none of them made a worst move than Fred, leaving french power Lyon for virtually demoted Fluminense in Rio.

The Ecuatorians were a good squad, at the World Cup they managed to get to the second round, eliminated by the English Team in a really tough game. On the starting eleven just three changes. Left back Reasco gave his place to Ambrossi and the attack of the team was new with Borja and Caicedo replacing Carlos Tenório and Delgado.

And that change worked out well, so much that Félix Borja scored the first goal of the match at the 22 minutes in the game, Fred equalized at the end of the first half. Kaká scored the winning goal midway the second half.

After a shaky lunchtime trawl through the NewsNow site headlines having been told that Harry was about to be sacked I recovered enough composure to make it through the afternoon. Things like this have happened before. Remember David Pleat in 1988? I don’t think it was the N17 car park he was performing in – or was it? But this couldn’t be true – or could it because it is Tottenham Hotspur we are talking about.

Thankfully Harry brushed it away as “nonsense” so let’s hope we hear no more on the subject.

A trip to the Reebok and the sort of game we are normally not good at. I’d expected JD to be missing having heard that his dislocation had become a broken hand but apparently passed fit so we may see little change to the starting line up. Having said that Kevin Davies is an awful handful and whilst tommy was good at home against a lacklustre forward line trying to settle into the Premier league this could be different. We need aerial power at central defence and this game has Michael Dawson written all over it.

I think we need to see Gomes back in the goals and I might go Crouch up front to give us something to aim at from defensive areas. Once again Wilson’s performance will be crucial and I expect him to pick up a yellow card for getting stuck in and upsetting their midfield. I’d also play Tommy so Jenas would drop to the bench allowing us to win the ball and set away Lennon on the right and Kranjcar on the left.

As skipper Keane should start, try to be lively and create space with his runs and I’d expect Corluka, Bassong and Assou Ekotto to make up the 11.

A tough game as Bolton have played well in September and will fancy it at their home ground. Three points is possible but not if we sit off so COYS and get stuck in!

`How do you feel after the rehearsal? Does your new role make the change worth?

`Fully. It’s totally different to play this role of a young but extremely successful singer in a small theatre from being a young but successful singer and do gigs. It’s like parallel universes even if it doesn’t seem to be.

`People might think you don’t even have to do anything differently as this story is just about you…

`Yes and no. This makes them parallel but light-years away from one another.

`But you are rather familiar with being in the limelight and all the buzz, as far as I can remember your last few years.

`Ha-ha, Seven years is a looong time, you’re right, probably this is why I needed the change so much. Singing in that band with those beautiful people was a gift, a present from life. To sing everywhere, literally – on stages all over the world, from small clubs to massive festivals is something big. Really massive, you can’t just get away from it, it will be with me all my life. Like a heavy burden ha-ha.

`Exactly. You used to sing in front of thousands but now you’re playing for couple of hundreds. Isn’t it a heavy step backwards? A waste of your talent?

`You know the saying “Size is not important” …ha-ha-ha…What is important is the challenge. Those years I had the best kind of life someone could wish for. However, by the end I was dying.

`Nobody could notice you were having any kind of problem, you were blooming on stage moving the audience as you wanted: one moment dancing ecstatically then bursting into tears in the other.

`It was not only me but the whole production, you can see how the band make it with their new singer, actually, he is bloody talented. I’m really happy for them.

`So, is it your second life? Or you have further plans: telly, film, Hollywood?

`At the moment I’m really into this play, and acting in general, and not planning any further.

I’m delighted to welcome Burnley back to White Hart Lane for a league game after an incredibly

I’m delighted to welcome Burnley back to White Hart Lane for a league game after an incredibly long break. I’ve seen them twice at the Lane both League Cup ties and for 3 out of the four halves they were excellent posting a 4-1 win in 1983 and losing last season after running us hard before half time. To me Burnley are a top flight club and all of a sudden the league table is starting to look like the tables of my youth. Come back Derby all is forgiven!

Trouble was they gave Pav far too much space and if Jenson does not get over his dead leg it could be a goal fest – hopefully more of the 5-1 Fulham than the 6-4 Reading variety of two seasons ago. Why might i be worried? Well watching the League Cup highlights Gomes was brilliant but far too busy. Preston might not be able to take advantage but Burnley might and a certain Mr Nugent (David not Ted) will be looking to get Harry in a stranglehold and leave us Spurs fans paralyzed and in a state of shock. As for fullbacks I’ll go Hutton and Assou-Ekotto.

I’m hopeful that Bassong will be fit after his fall at the Bridge and builds an understanding with new partner Dawson. A solid performance from Daws will be just what the doctor ordered and hopefully give Gomes a little less to do. Yes I want to see Gomes back. After all, Carlo does his solo warm up on the six yard line not involving us like Gomes as he touches the cross bar. Carlo, like Charlie C, might also be a bit shell shocked from his last two performances though he did Ok and made some good saves.

Tomorrow we need Lennon to be on the wing. No mucking about get him out wide from where he can hurt the opposition leaving The Sarge to hurt them inside by making a few tackles this week please. I think game is set up for Tommy if he wants to impress and I’d give Kranjcar a start on the left.

That leaves up front and I’ll go Keane and Crouch as Peter did enough to get a slot. I’m disappointed for Defoe so if he plays Keane will drop back and Kranjcar back to the bench. I say Keane as I doubt Harry will drop the skipper when Ledley is not available and I have no Jenas.

I’ve just seen Woodgate running on Skysports news so that hopefully looks good for the coming weeks.

Predicted score 3-0 Spurs as long as we don’t get casual and over estimate our ability and underestimate Burnley! COYS!

Having failed to find a stream it was back to the dark ages using a tranny and headphones that have intermittent use in an effort to keep up with the game. This after the DAB radio in the car which at best is patchy on the BBC with regular periods of “no signal” but tonight clear as a bell and the word I enjoyed hearing most was Dawson! First game of the season for Daws tonight and still a clean sheet at his substitution. Gomes made some saves so it was not all one way but it is disappointing that we could not hold out.

It has been a busy week this week so I had no time to do a pre game post but my twitter of a predicted team was pretty good or so I thought. As I got into the car after the game had started I did not hear the team sheet so had to listen intently to pick up the team. 5 miles into the journey I’m still not sure who is up front with Crouchy! I got Bale and Bentley and Giovanni but slipped up on Sgt Wilson and Corluka having got Tommy in midfield.

Overall it seemed a good performance with a hat trick from Peter Crouch and goals from JD and Robbie Keane; 5 goals says it all. Having got the second we shouldn’t have been troubled and so it proved though Preston did keep going until the end.

I’m delighted as my loyalty point total is still rising and this is a competition we can get to a final of and maybe win. It was also a potential banana skin until I heard that Daws was in contention for a place in the side. For me he was back to his best under Harry’s tutelage. Michael it’s a pleasure to have you back and I hope to see you on Saturday.

Finally thanks to my work colleague and fellow Spur Little Wing – back this week from a Turkish holiday. What’s happened she said, “before I went we were unbeaten?”. “Good point”, I said “you’re never going away on holiday during the football season again!” We’ve won tonight and won well now let’s beat Burnley on Saturday.

When the girl stepped in the bar she only saw the two barmen quickly mopping the floor. She walked up to the counter with peculiarly graceful steps for a rather short but extremely overweight 15 year-old girl. The sight of an airy and surprisingly elastic motion of the meatball shaped teen made the two men stop in the middle of they work petrified.

She quickly grabbed a pen and a piece of paper from the bar and jotted `Lost my dog. Small. Loud. Seen it?` Then went up to the guys to ask this very simple question but they were still standing rigid so waved in front of their face if could bring them back to life. The second her lips just moved open one of the statues suddenly turns his head to the other saying `Have you seen this!?? …Oh my god, have you seen this? …Oh my god!`

This was the moment when the girl kicked the bucket with an energetic gedan mawashi geri to the other side of the room in a nice angle, while four eyes were following the cheeky movement of her fluffy mini skirt. A short while later the foamy content of the bucket arrived to its destination after a safe and sound flight, but nobody was alive in the room to thank for using the airline. The girl had left the room with two bloody heads in her hands while two torsos were sitting on the floor not quite getting what had really happened to them in those few moments when they were busy watching two heavily hail-damaged cheeks winking mischievously from under a tutu.

Ingredientes:

01 kg de bacalhau.

04 batatas médias.

03 cebolas médias.

½ ramo de salsa.

03 ovos.

03 pimentas dedo de moça.

300ml de azeite de oliva.

10 azeitonas pretas grandes.

Pimenta do reino e sal (se necessário)

Modo de preparo:

Dessalgue o bacalhau. (vide dicas)

from exile he came from the wilderness unto the people; and the saw that he was good!!? really? ok then.

Safe to say that out of our squad of assorted rapscallions and roustabouts; Gareth and Heurelho have been at the frontline of the barrage of media criticism, much to the delight of more lack lustre contributors, (mentioning no names). Whilst Gomes’ follies have been arguably the most prominent sickening exercise of media unsettling a player through the domino effect; (my thanks to Mr. Tony Parks for straightening that one out); his performances otherwise have been duly noted as excellent; and more-so a fine contribution to last season’s sterling defensive record.

Where Bale is concerned though; there is a crisis of confidence. A crisis that the pundits are all too glad to point out. Gareth Bale is cursed. Everyone knows that we haven’t won a game with him in the side; but the last thing that is going to help an evidentially troubled yet talented footballer is to tell him that he is the victim of a hex or otherwise.

Not exactly confidence building is it; what Bale can take heart from however is that before we managed to prize the lad from Southampton he was being touted by none other than referee’s favourite Sir Alex Ferguson as the natural successor for Ryan ‘I’ve got another year in me’ Giggs; and being compared to such a legendary left-back talent is no mean feat.

Oh right; so Ryan Giggs has never played at left back? Really; then why? Ok. Well that doesn’t really make much sense does it? Ok. Thanks Damien.

The only thing that could really console a manager who misses out on a talented signing in somewhat of a coup would be to see said signing being played in a position where his abundant talents are curtailed. In english that means that I reckon Sir Alex Ferguson would be glad to see his once prospective prodigy reduced to Andy Gray’s unimaginative fixture; in a position where his threat is marginalised.

It should also be noted; that whilst Sir Alex Ferguson has Dark Jedi style mind trick abilities; he hasn’t quite yet reached a mastery of curses; so for the most part; his contribution to Bale’s run of bad luck should be discounted.

Whist Luka’s out and Benoit seems to be doing a job; would it be such an unorthodox idea to let our left-sided midfield talent have a crack of the whip; against first class opposition? It’s a distinct possibility that Gomes will return at the weekend; Bale? Hopefully in his fitness he’s shown Harry a thing or two; and given him another selection headache. Pre-match musings tommorow!

Fonte: UOL Esporte

Floating.
Floating with the stream.
Here I am swimming with the reflections of the sun, the trees on the bank and the birds overhead. Purely enjoying life. Not worrying about a thing. Sank deep into the mesmerising sight of the blue sky, hypnotised by the vibration of light beaming through the leafs, giving a sensation of hovering metres over the surface weightlessly, dancing in the air moving together with the spring breeze. I can’t keep my eyes open nor can I close them. I’ve become blind, when the rays of light hit my iris, it sparkles shooting fireworks to the air celebrating all life forms. I’m feeling being beautiful.
I’m rolling over. Wow, it’s good I’ll try again. And again. Start rotating slowly to the right. Up. Down. And down again. Maybe this way is up. Speeding up. Dizzying. Can’t help. Spinning furiously, laughing and falling unconscious.

Stop! What is this ache in the chest? What is this endlessly deep emptiness in the soul? What is this beckoning black void under? Where have all the light gone? What has happened to me?

Who are you?

How did you do this: give me the excitement, life, love and happiness; Then a second later take everything leaving only memories, sadness and emptiness? How?
And why?
WHY??

Aaaarrrrrgggghhh!
You Must Tell Me!!
Now!

Please.
I’m asking you.
I’m begging you.
I need to know.
Pleasepleasepleaseplea..

Sob.
I couldn’t carry this heavy burden of not knowing why I have failed.

Is it just a probe? A quiz? If I do well.. if I am strong enough and humble but have dignity.. if I surrender sacrificing relish…If I was able to forego anything in the world, then, but only then could I get to the Great Blue? But…no, you must understand..

I understand now. I will get there only when I have come to terms with the idea that it is not possible. It is clear now. Thank you.

However, I can not give up. You will understand..
The Great Blue is waiting for me patiently and I am floating towards her.
Slowly. In my way.
And I will get there.
You’ll see.

`When did you last go to school?` `I don’t really…I mean…when in primary school

`When did you last go to school?`

`I don’t really…I mean…when in primary school…so, I went to school for few days but then I got scared. Too many people, you know.`

`Well, what’s wrong with people?`

`Hmm…I dunno…just got scared of them. They are mean…basically…They are shoutin, screamin all the time, tellin you names, kickin you, throwin things to you, these kinda things, you know.`

‘I see. You don’t seem to socialise too much then. What do you usually do?`

`Just, you know, wanderin around…watchin others, you know, playin and havin fun or arguing, you know. Just watchin how they…how they fight against…against eternity…you know`

`….`

`D’you know what’s my favourite!? Balloons! I love balloons. I just love them. They suddenly slip off the childs’ hands heading quickly skywards, wavin the last to the cryin kid with their string, and go up-up high, tremblin like crazy, dancin themselves into the arms of freedom. Frenetic! I sometimes try to go with them for a while but come back to earth in the end. I know, one day I’ll grab their string, close my eyes tightly and fly with them all the way and only open my eyes when we’ve arrived.
