Time for off topic.  I’ve said all I want to, or anyone could read, about fiscal timing.

I am an obsessive user of the iPod, eternally grateful to leave behind those barbaric days of  mix tapes and minidiscs . As well as podcasts (Guardian, BBC comedy, that sort of sad middle-aged stuff), I am always looking for the Next Favourite Track, that wonderful uplifting moment when you realise you are going to love a 2-15 minute piece for ever. (except, of course, you won’t).

From my point of view, the trade-off is worth it if I listen to 10 pieces of rubbish for every hit.   I probably buy 10 tracks every other day, most of them classical, on the strictly impartial advice of the InterWeb and its Lists.  It is well worth ploughing through half of this for example to find that sublime slow movement from the Beethoven’s 5th piano concerto.

So I was deeply, sadly excited to see that the Times was adding to its 100 best books (for which read, novels) of the decade, and 100 films, with the 100 best albums of the Noughties.  This is seriously useful: posterity is a wonderful filter.  Thanks to posterity, most of us would not have heard of a mediocrity like Salieri (without that movie).  A lot of pointless ploughing through anonymous works is thereby saved.

But I don’t like the Times list.  Instant posterity is clearly nowhere near as reliable.   My first, most obnoxious reason, is this.  There are too many old people on it.   Here they are:

Neil Diamond Paul Simon Johnny Cash Paul Weller Paul McCartney David Bowie Brian Wilson Bob Dylan Madonna Bruce Springsteen Richard Hawley

Now, before you get cross (whoever YOU is), hear me out.  I loved some of the defining work of the people above.  I thought Dylan the equal of any other poet – until I read some other poetry.  But now I have to admit that I don’t like anything he has done since 1974.  And it’s because Pop is different from those other arts where the practitioner becomes better with age.  Shakespeare, clearly, got better.   His thoughts became more complex, his range of references wider, and so on.  So too can classical composers grow.  Beethoven’s last symphony is generally rated the best, as are his wonderful late string quartets. And in many professions – I would offer politics – I seriously doubt the ability of the early practitioner to make judgements as fine as in later life.

Now look at the history of pop.  Would anyone honestly have heard of Paul McCartney if he had started in 1985, with “Spies like Us”?  Or the Rolling Stones, with that dreadful song about rocks and a hard place?  No, of course no.  Ditto all the names up there.  Pop is overwhelmingly about adolescence.  Its lyrics, for what they are worth, are pathetically adolescent. When pop tries to be profound or clever, it is embarassing.  It is not meant for that.  It is meant to be overthetop, vainglorious, pretentious, and not worth 20 minutes of a university course.

The people who compiled the Times list clearly take it too seriously, because they want to to be so much more.  This is their life, after all.  Part of this need is a desire to think that pop talent exhibits some sort of continuity, an ability to mellow and deepen with age and experience – like the other great Arts.  But it obviously is not so.  Great pop bands mature incredibly quickly, and then suffer an embarassing long afterlife, an endless second-act-angst.  It’s like someone who makes everyone laugh once at a dinner party, and then launches into longer and windier anecdotes.  Get your coat.

Of course, they never get their coat.  The Arctic Monkey’s last album was full of painfully obscure and dark lyrics, lots of poetical preachiness: ‘a more experimental, darker sound and even bleaker subject matter.’.  Sorry, but that is not what got us buying those wonderful early songs, so honest and witty about chippy underachieving mid adolescence.   The same has happened to my favourite band, Gomez.

I don’t know much about the Times’ more obscure choices, at least 30 of which I had not heard of.  I can’t rate rap, and had always hoped Ali G or the Conchords would do for it what I had hoped Spinal Tap would do for heavy metal.  I am not pretending I have more knowledge than the Times’ experts.  This is their life after all.  But one thing that is certain is that their combination of obscure and old has pushed away some amazing bands:

• Noah and the Whale – just that first album
• Gomez
• Razorlight, again the first album, if only for the gloriously pretentious “in the City”
• The Fratellis, again the first album. Chelsea Dagger must have been the most used track on the telly
• Florence and the Machine
• Dirty Pretty Things, both albums.  Barat is clearly the genius of that combination.
• The Killers, for God’s Sake.  All three albums, but they clearly deserve some recognition for writing the best song of the decade. (scandalously used by David Cameron).
• Badly Drawn Boy – the first 3 albums at least deserved a place.  Like Nick Hornby I am affected by A Minor Incident.

I am sure I could go on.  So could you.  I would like to add one more.  It is easily my favourite album of the decade, from one of the best TV shows, and just about the only one I am (currently) sure I’ll still listen to in 10 years’ time.   Because pop is meant to be like that.

By taking pop too seriously, the Times have missed the point of it entirely.

Consumers expect their mobile Internet experience to be every bit as easy and accessible as it is on their PCs, but this isn’t necessarily the case according to new research from Xiam Technologies.

 The survey of over 2,500 U.S. and U.K. mobile Internet users found that 8 out of 10 are frustrated by mobile search capabilities despite 68% of mobile users being dependent on mobile search engines to access content.

Not only do they have difficulty finding online content but they also claim to have to wade through too much “irrelevant information”, found Xiam Technologies’ survey (.pdf), with too much scrolling and clicking required to find what they want.

Content most desired and used is weather-related, followed by maps, social networking, games, music and local/world news. Significantly, respondents said that 27% of the time they were unable to access mobile content. Often this is a result of poor mobile webpage design (too large/small).

Research commissioned by Gomez earlier this year found that a bad mobile experience could turn users off a brand for good, driving them to competitors.

According to the 8-page report (.pdf) “It is clear there are serious consequences for organizations who fail to deliver quality mobile web experiences. The mobile website that fails to perform a transaction at speeds that mimic mobile behavior (e.g., waiting in line, stopped on a sidewalk, or sitting in a bus) or that doesn’t function as intended is unlikely to attract and retain users.”

JLo falls onstage...then pops up and keeps it moving

Last night,Dick Clark and ABC television hosted the annual American Music Awards, where all kind of crazy and cool happenings went on,and Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert still stood out.

I like it how every year some new act feels the need to shock and push the limits of the public morals to the breaking point, and this year the winner for that category is Adam Lambert.

Adam,the runner-up for last seasons American Idol competition,decided to out do Katy Perry who kissed a girl, or at least had a hit record about it, by kissing a guy on stage.

And, as if that was not enough to get his point across, he then grabbed a male dancer, and had him kiss,…or do something like that, to his crotch. Many guys have done this on stage before,except with women.

I think the best one was that awards show on Spike TV hosted by Jamie Foxx,when he grabbed Halle Berry’s nice behind and laid a good kiss on her…remember that.

…Oh yeah…as usual,like clockwork…Lady Gaga got down!…she is the most interesting performer out there currently, and whenever she performs…I simply can not take my eyes off of her,because of her performances.

She has way more concept than the rest of her fellow performers,and I can tell she is having a big influence on others stage shows. Good going Gaga….

After a lot of if, but and maybe it is now a fact… tomorrow I leave for India, a brand new adventure that I will experience just because of my football freestyle skills.

It will be an adventure including myself(Palle), Daniel Rooseboom, Nam The Man, Nori, Gomez and Petike.

I’m not sure what to expect but it will be a great experience… I’ve heard many stories but it will be great to shape my own opinion.

It’s like this:  I have no money.  And I’m about to have to spend a lot more money.  Details forthcoming.  There is an end in sight and, Lord willing, I’m going to actually make money in my next career.  That’s very far away.

I’m wigging out.  I’ve made the best decisions I’ve known how to make at the time, whether they were the “right” ones or not.  I’ve not been frivolous…most of the time, anyway, and never excessively so.  I’m just very tired of not being able to afford, well, much of anything, and of always having my job/financial situation up in the air.  True, I’m not the best with commitment, but some financial stability for once would be worth it.

I’ll be fine.  Times like this, though, make me even more escapist even than I usually am.  And you know how I’d like to escape.

Right now, even if I were so poor I’d have to live out of my Airstream, I’d actually be so poor I couldn’t afford an Airstream to live out of.  Someday, though, I’ll be happy to be that kind of “poor.”

The thought makes me happy, as does the pic.  As does this song.

Vuelvo a la carga, después de poner el making off de la sesión en la minúscula ducha os presento mi artilugio patentado ·reflector 2000″ jajajaja. Bueno, me dejo de chorradas y me pongo a explicar.

Cuando nos hemos comprado una “peasso” de cámara, nos hemos dejado un pastón en ella y en los correspondientes objetivos…salimos por ahí entusiasmados a hacer fotos, y ¡que fotos hacemos! “Qué pasada, no hay ni punto de comparación con la del llidll” pensamos xD. JODER! Pues claro jaja porque sino iba a haber una diferencia de precio tan bestial…pero claro, nos empezamos a perder por los menús, no sabemos como desactivar el flash cuando antes era muy fácil…etc. Y llega el día en el que hay comida familiar en casa y tu sacas tu pepinaco de cámara para fardar, y empiezas a hacer fotos a lo loco. Al día siguiente de resaca causada por la sobremesa  , vamos al PC y pasamos las fotos de la cámara. Nos poneos a verlas y vemos que no quedan del todo bien, que las personas quedan muy iluminadas mientras que el fondo queda oscuro y feo. Tal que así (vale, imaginar que mi mano es la cabeza de alguien y mi brazo el cuerpo xD jajaja):

Queda claro lo que quiero decir, ¿no? Podéis observar que la mano queda bien iluminada, incluso demasiado brillante (la distancia de la mano al objetivo es aproximadamente de dos palmos). ¿Como solucionar esto? Fácil, muy fácil, más de lo que te puedas imaginar, aunque solo sirve para fotografiar en interiores con el techo no muy alto.

Explicación científica : Lo que vamos a hacer es recoger toda la luz que proyecta el flash de la cámara y vamos a hacerlo rebotar unos 45º hacía el techo, y que de ahí vuelva a rebotar iluminando toda la sala que tenemos delante de la cámara (esto no serviría en un techo negro pues la luz sería absorbida por el color; pero…¿Quién tiene el techo de su casa negro? jaja). Fijaros en el es esquema de aquí abajo:

Y compararlo con el que hay justo debajo de esta línea:

¿Veis alguna diferencia? Esta claro que SI! Las lineas blancas representan la luz emitida por el flash (a modo esquemático claro está). La situación es que nos ha tocado fotografiar a Patricia Conde en paños menores, lo más normal del mundo, y queremos que detrás aparezca ese árbol porque le da un tono alegre y de color a la toma, incluso salvaje, quien sabe (tomarlo como un ejemplo práctico )… Tal y como he explicado antes si realizáramos la toma con el flash directamente nos saldría mal iluminada, como el primer ejemplo que puse con mi mano; aparecería Patricia Conde demasiado iluminada y el fondo oscuro. Sin embargo en el segundo esquema veis que la cámara tiene en la parte superior, donde está el flash un pequeño artilugio (que ahora explicaré más a fondo), y que hay más lineas y por lo tanto más luz. Al rebotar la luz del flash en la mierda esa (que pasa, la llamo como quiero xD jaja) lo que hace es difuminar la luz y esparcirla hacia el techo, y por tanto en el techo vuelve a rebotar y se vuelve a disipar la luz, cubriendo un mayor ángulo de iluminación accediendo incluso detrás de nuestra mujercilla en pelotas e iluminando el árbol.

Hasta aquí la chapa de lo que hace el invento, ¿alguna duda? Pues tomen nota que entra en el examen del jueves jajaja. Y te estarás preguntando, “¿pero el tarao este de que “cohones” va? Quiere decir de una vez como hacer eso!!!” Passienssia, pequeño padawan xD, a ello voy.

Los flashes profesionales por decirlo así pueden rotar el foco y dirigirlo donde quieran, pero los que no tenemos el lujo de poder tener uno de esos nos lo tenemos que inventar. Lo primero de todo, pilla un cacho de cartón, una miaja no! Un cacho elegante, y unas tijeras también! Os dejo un modelo aquí abajo y lo explico:

No está a escala, así que no lo cojáis y lo imprimáis porque no os valdrá.Esto es lo que recortareis en el cartón que habéis cogido (el de una caja de cereales va de perlas).  Se aprecia que la parte inferior es más estrecha que la superior, esto es porque por la parte inferior es por donde lo engancharemos a la cámara (ahí cada uno que mire su cámara y lo adapte, yo tengo esa solapa y lo he adaptado para que forme un ángulo de 45 grados con la horizontal al engancharlo, cuando lo quiero usar lo engancho con el alambre de cierre del pan bimbo, pero hay millones de posibilidades); y la parte superior, que tiene una forma de cono y ensanche recto al final será lo que reflecte la luz que salga del flash. Esta parte la cubriremos con papel para envolver bocatas,  vamos, el metálico, si ese! justo el que estas pensando jaja. Hay que pegarlo con pegamento de barra y que quede bien fijado, con las menos arrugas posibles. El resultado final puede diferir según la persona, pero os tiene que quedar algo así:

In my view, the song, “Ambulance,” by Eisley on the new EP, “Fire Kite,” was born for moments like this.

Intentionally or not, Eisley, a group from Tyler, Texas, made up of four sibling twenty-somethings and a cousin, has written a song that could fit nicely in the “Grey’s Anatomy” genre of music, an unlikely category that has emerged since the TV show debuted in 2005. Grey’s Anatomy has featured a who’s who of cool young artists, including KT Tunstall, Ingrid Michaelson, Anna Nalick, Brandi Carlile, Peter Bjorn and John, The Bird and the Bee and Feist.

In recent years, Eisley has toured with several well-known bands, including (you may have seen this coming) “Grey’s Anatomy” soundtrack alumni Coldplay, Snow Patrol, The Fray and Gomez.

To get a feel for the song, “Ambulance,” think of the emotional intensity of tunes like Sarah McLachlan’s “I Will Remember You,” along with the sweetness of Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories’ song, “Stay.”

So grab a box of napkins, a quart of ice cream and experience the song, “Ambulance,” by Eisley on the EP “Fire Kite” (Sire Records Company, released Oct. 9, 2009).

Price was astonishing. Where was everyone else? When you get that much time to get one goal to claw back a game you have no business skating in—let alone winning… Even had they managed to steal this one, or just get a point, the Habs-o-meter would stayed flat at best. Nice to see Bouillon. Gomez is nowhere without Gionta. The case for Gionta and the ‘C’ is building.

Buenas gentecilla!!!

Pues actualizo el blog, con el making off de unas tomas que rondaban mi cabeza desde hace tiempo. La idea que llevaba en mente era hacer unas tomas bajo la ducha (sease, con el agua cayendo jajaja), pero el problema es que el espacio del que disponía era realmente pequeño. Estoy viviendo en una residencia de estudiantes, con habitaciones individuales con baño individual también y la ducha es enana, cuando digo enana es enana!!!!jaja. El que sean individuales los baños me ha permitido el poder llevar a cabo esto. Me pasé un rato en el baño mirando la organización de la zona donde iba a trabajar, se me ocurrió como poner la cámara, la altura a la que estaría con el trípode…..y dos aspectos fundamentales, como iba a iluminar la ducha (que no tiene NADA de luz, creerme, NADA, se ve siempre super oscuro cuando me ducho), y la forma en que no se mojara la cámara (porque de ser tan pequeño el espacio era difícil colocarla bien). Aquí abajo os dejo un par de tomas hechas con con mi otra cámara pequeña de como coloqué la cámara, y como la dejé preparada. Debajo de la foto explico la iluminación:

Si os fijáis en la parte superior de la cámara, donde está el flash, hay una cosa extraña… , en breve crearé un post explicando ese simple artilugio made by petaqui   que hace que iluminar correctamente una habitación pueda ser posible sin un flash de 300€, o sistemas complejos de iluminación de estudio. Ya os lo explicaré. Bueno, ya veis que el espacio es reducido, y la única bombilla de todo el baño está detrás de la primera pared de la izquierda, con lo que no le llega nada de luz, y se hace necesario el uso de “artilugio” o luz extra.
Cuando tenía todo preparado me puse a hacer pruebas de la toma, analizando las luces y sombras, aunque sin preocuparme tanto por los tonos ya que desde un principio quería hacer las tomas en blanco y negro. Ya tenía todo preparado, solo me hacía falta quitarme la ropa (como no jaja, ya que iba a ducharme) y abrir los grifos, dejando que el agua corriera y mojándome de arriba a abajo.
Ya solo quedaba con mucho cuidado pillar el mando que tengo para la cámara, poner el temporizador, darle al botón, tirar el mando al montón de toallas que estaban estratégicamente preparadas para que el mando cayera con suavidad jajaja, y posar.
Ya solo me tocó pasar las fotos después al pc, cortar por donde quería para que quedase el plano que esperaba, convertirlas a blanco y negro…y listo! Marco, y nick, así ya estaban listas para subirlas. Lo de cortarlas es porque es imposible encuadrarme a mi mismo sin ver desde el visor lo que apunta la cámara jaja, y si a eso le añades el agua que cae y casi moja la cámara… vamos, que me ha costado muchísimo hacer las fotos. I only laughed at it because I knew that every song in my playlist was picked because it reminded me of him. I guess you can say that it’s almost like self inflicted pain. Constantly reminding me of my miseries. But now as I listen to same playlist, I find myself smiling and having a blast listening to them. Then and there, I felt like me again. I feel like I’ve just released a whole bunch of  crap in my life.

They are a band who live in Glasgow and have done for some time. They record in bedrooms, cupboards and kitchens. Anyone can be in Frightened Rabbit. They have played some live shows in this city, but want to meet people from other cities, in order that they can come and blow into tubes when they play live. Vampire weekend då. Det är ingen A-punk, men ganska mysigt och plingplongigt. Lyssna nedan för bedömning.

Primero, un apunte personal. Iba a ir al Bernabéu, pero un fallo tecnológico (luego dicen que las máquinas sólo nos mejoran la vida) en la adquisición de las entradas me ha dejado sin partido. Pues menos mal. Ahora vamos con lo que pasó en el Bernabéu y con todo lo que rodea al Real Madrid.

El madridismo se había ilusionado con la remontada. Pensaba que el destino había reservado una noche histórica que diera sentido al desastre de Alcorcón. Llenó el estadio esperando una recompensa de sus jugadores y de su entrenador. Pellegrini reservó algunos jugadores, incluido Ramos, que podía haber jugado, pues la sanción no se aplica hasta que se reúna el Comité de Competición, lo cual ocurrirá el miércoles.

El chileno podía habérsela jugado con su once de gala, el mismo que salió en Milán y frente al Atlético, pero decidió sacar a Gago y Diarra, con Lass en el lateral derecho, a Kaká, Higuaín, Raúl y Van Nistelrooy. Es un once que debería ganar al Alcorcón sin problemas, pero no es el once ideal del Madrid, lo cual demuestra que su entrenador o no tenía fe o no se lo tomó en serio.

Una de las estrategias pasaba por marcar un gol rápido. No se cumplió. El primer y único tanto llegó en el minuto 82, obra de Van der Vaart. En la primera parte, nada de nada. Sólo un mano a mano de Van Nistelrooy con Juanma, que desbarató la ocasión. Y eso que se suponía que debían salir a morder…

Antes y después del gol, el Madrid dio tres largueros. Van Nistelrooy, Van der Vaart (invalidado por mano) e Higuaín. Fue lo más peligroso, pero todo insuficiente. Aunque hubiesen entrado esos tres disparos, el resultado habría sido inmerecido. El Alcorcón se ha ganado a pulso estar en los octavos de final. Hace quince días ridiculizando al Madrid y hoy desarticulando cualquier intento de remontada defendiendo sus principios de buen fútbol, justo lo que le falta a los blancos.

En un momento del partido, la grada entonó al unísono: “Pellegrini, dimisión”. Dimitir y destituir son sinónimos en este caso. No se espera que pase nada, pero Florentino ya ha oído el sentir del pueblo, que, por cierto, no opina igual que su presidente, para quien “no ganar ningún título este año no sería un fracaso”. Para el madridismo sí, y ya se ha esfumado uno.

Do you ever hear a song come on the radio and think you know it already even though you’ve never heard it before? I had this experience with this song. I had no idea if it was new or old. It was new. I didn’t know the band. Nothing. But this one hit me as comforting and familiar but also new and interesting. Lyrics here, more below…

Now I could try and analyze the lyrics to death but I’m going to roll on first impressions. I had a picture of this band sitting on a tour bus, driving down the highway. And if you don’t know Airstream, to me that is motorhome/RV type equipment and if you have ever seen their all silver model, that is the picture in my head listening to this song. A silver bullet of mobile home flying down the highway barely in control.

I see someone watching this crazy person and just saying over and over ‘go carefully’. Don’t kill yourself. Don’t kill someone else. I base that on the ‘oversleep the rapture’ – meaning don’t kill me!!

And it appears to be a woman driving it, maybe heading to Vegas (penthouse at the Sands?). For whatever reason the ‘watermelon candy mouth’ brought a picture of a woman, overdone with makeup, brilliant red lipstick, leopard skin tights, hair up in a scarf, music blaring and paying no attention to the world around her. Oh go carefully you Airstream driver!!

Der FC Bayern muss sich entscheiden, welches Spielsystem soll er spielen, 4-4-2 oder 4-3-3! Oder hat er sich schon entschieden und keiner hat’s bislang verstanden? Der Kauf von Gomez und Olic deutet auf ein System mit zwei Stürmern hin. Also eher 4-4-2. Der Kauf von Robben wiederum sieht nach einem 4-3-3 System aus. Also welches System spielen?

Eine wirklich schwere Entscheidung! Und mit diesem Thema kenne ich als Frau mich aus! Welches Outfit ist für bestimmte Termine angebracht? Oder welches Kleid ist passender für welchen Event.

Das wichtigste für diese Entscheidungsfindungen ist, erstmal eine passende Auswahl dafür im Schrank hängen zu haben! Ja da fängt es doch schon an! Bin ich eher das Partygirl, mit 4 knappen Kleidchen im Schrank, 3 eher sexy Geschäftsoutfits und 3 Paar coolen High Heels? Oder doch die Businessfrau mit 4 Kostümen, 4 schicken, aber bequemen Schuhen und noch 2 konservativeren Party Outfits? Beides Ok, aber man muss sich entscheiden und dementsprechend seinen Kleiderschrank bestücken.

So wie im Moment der Schrank des FC Bayern aussieht, könnten sie es mit 3-3-4 oder 2-3-5 probieren, das wäre zu mindestens mal innovativ!
