<title><![CDATA[Lightyear: Actual Product Displacement Partnership]]></title>

<p>In 2006, Goodyear teamed with Disney and Pixar to promote <em>Cars</em>.  In the animated film, the main character, Lightening McQueen (pictured above), dons Lightyear tires and the Lightyear blimp is visible during speedway races.  Goodyear&#8217;s director of marketing, Joey Viselli, has noted that the company allowed Disney/Pixar to have fun with the brand, but not with the actual brand itself, meaning Goodyear&#8217;s inclusion in the film stops short of traditional product placement.  Instead, the Lightyear cameos are an example of sponsored product displacement.  I&#8217;ve been tracking product displacement for a while now, and the Lightyear/<em>Cars </em>occurrence is the only example I&#8217;m aware of in which a brand lobbies to be parodied or fictionalized.  To promote the release of the film, Goodyear tweaked its iconic <a href="http://www.blimp-n2a.com/images/News/N06/news06-lightyear.jpg" target="_blank">Spirit of Goodyear blimp to read &#8220;Lightyear&#8221;</a> for 15 days and offered <em>Cars</em>-related giveaways.</p>

<p style="text-align:left;">In these winter months, it is especially important to check the tread and air pressure in your tires so you can stay safe on the roads.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Here is a recent article from <strong><em>Tire Review</em></strong> that highlights just how many people fail to do this.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">&#8220;Millions Rolling on Bald Tires: RMA Report&#8221;<br />
November 19, 2009</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Millions of drivers are sporting at least one bald tire, putting themselves and others at risk, according to research by the RMA.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">A survey of more than 7,000 vehicles revealed that more than 11% had at least one bald tire, which can increase the risk of a crash, particularly in wet weather conditions that frequently occur during fall and winter months. Extrapolating that result out, that means that nearly 28 million vehicles are in dire need to new treads.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">According to AAA, an estimated 33.2 million motorists will take to the road for Thanksgiving travel and that means nearly 4 million motorists could be at risk by driving on bald tires.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Additional alarming statistics revealed in a national motorist phone survey earlier this year found that 64% of car owners did not know how to check tread depth and 9% never check tread depth, said RMA.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">“In this bad economy, drivers may be delaying necessary vehicle maintenance to save costs,” said Charles Cannon, RMA president and CEO. “But that delay may cost you more dearly if worn out tires lead to a crash with injuries or fatalities.”</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">“Your tires literally keep your vehicle attached to the road,&#8221; Cannon said. “Bald tires are dangerous because they cannot grip the road properly, they increase stopping distances and can contribute to skidding or loss of vehicle control.&#8221;</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Not only are too many motorists not paying attention to tread depth, they also are ignoring tire inflation pressure. Under inflated tires also pose a safety risk, wear out faster and increase vehicle fuel consumption.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">A similar survey of more than 5,400 vehicles&#8217; tire pressure conducted in March-May 2009, RMA found that only 9% of vehicles had four properly inflated tires, and 50% had at least one under inflated tire – 19% of which had at least one tire under inflated by 8 psi.</p>

<title><![CDATA[How to change a tire.]]></title>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>So I&#8217;m sitting at my house trying to find things to do that don&#8217;t involve cleaning it (which I told Brittnie I&#8217;d do but haven&#8217;t) and I thought it would be funny if I wrote instructions on how to change a tire. I think it&#8217;s funny because 1. unless you work in a tire shop (like me) you&#8217;ll never need this information and 2. when I was looking up writing jobs the only ones I found in the valley were technical writing (which is basically writing instruction manuals lol). Stupid thing is if you&#8217;ve ever read an instruction manual in the last 5 years you&#8217;ll realize there&#8217;s never any words (just pictures) and if there are they&#8217;re in spanish (go figure). So step by step instructions on how to change a tire. booyah!</p>
<p>1. First off it might be a good idea if you take the tire off the car (it&#8217;s a lot like putting a spare on and in my opinion unleass your under 10 or about to croak you should be able to change a spare in).</p>
<p>2. Take the air out via the valve stem. I&#8217;ve actually seen this done two ways. 1. remove the core with a valve core remover tool or 2. grab a pair of dikes (no pun) or other clamping tool and rip the stem out (not recommended if your car has tpms ((tire pressure monitoring system)) because the sensors are usually attached to the stem).</p>
<p>3. take the tire over to the machine (identify the rim material alloy or steel). You can use the alloy machine for either but never put alloy wheels on the steel wheel machine (it&#8217;ll muck it all up).</p>
<p>4. remove any wheel weights on the tire with a wheel weight tool and pop bead. The bead is pretty much the seal that hold air in the tire. it&#8217;s not an actually on the tire but the rim and what your trying to accomplish is putting a gap between the tire and rim all way around.</p>
<p>5. after you&#8217;ve sufficiently popped the bead on both sides of the tire verify where the safety bead is on the rim. In lamens terms is an extra hump in the rim you&#8217;ll see if you look from the inside. The reason for this is to determine if the rim is reverse mount or not. If reverse mount the safety bead will be on the inside of the rim. If you can&#8217;t tell just use this very very very general rule. your tire will most likely always be regular mount if its 1. under 20 inches in diameter 2. steel 3. stock (or o.e. ((or original part))). reverse mounts tend to be big, heavy, flashy, and aftermarket rims.</p>
<p>6. put the rim on the machine (upside down if reverse mounted) and press the foot botton for the clamps. The clamps will clamp on to the bottom of the tire to secure it in place while you work.</p>
<p>7. place the right arm of the machine on the tire. it should be tucked securely in between the rims lip and the tire.</p>
<p>8. grab the crow bar and jam it against the arm and inside of the tire. its should be wedged between the tire and the arm thats against the rim.</p>
<p>9. pull the bar over the lip of the rim. it should catch the tire and pull it over the arm of the machine.</p>
<p>10. hit the pedal to make the tire spin and watch it as the top lip of the tire gets moved over and out of the rim.</p>
<p>11. repeat the process for the bottom lip of the tire, jamming the bar in, pulling it over, and pushing the pedal.</p>
<p>12. grab the new tire, lube it up, and place it on top of the rim placing it as if is was on the rim,</p>
<p>13. grab the right arm of the machine again and spin the tire so that half of it is under the rim and half over.</p>
<p>14. hit the spin button to put the rest under the lip of the rim. repeat process for the top lip and you&#8217;ve mounted it!</p>
<p>15. put air in it and then take it to the balancer to be balanced.</p>
<p>So when your changing tires for customers like I do this 15 step process (when your really good like me) should take about 5 minutes a tire. Its only about half the work though because the tires still have to be balanced, which is a totally different beast unto itself.</p>
<p>Disclaimer: although I&#8217;ve previously stated this I&#8217;d like to reiterate it again here. 1. This will never be helpful too you. 2. it&#8217;s a waste of time to read this because of no. 1. 3. I don&#8217;t want to clean the house so I&#8217;m writing a blog so I don&#8217;t have too. <p><span style="font-size:small;"><strong>Sunday. December 6, 2009.</strong></span>  Got up feeling sluggish from the greasy duck I ate last night. Hopefully a walk in the cool air will revive me.</p>
<p>On my way back from Starbucks this afternoon I met a Canadian man. His name is Roger and it turns out he lives in my neighborhood. We are about 8 blocks apart. I’m surprised we hadn’t run into each other before. We traded email addresses and said we’d meet for dinner one night. Don’t know if that will ever happen.</p>
<p><span style="font-size:small;"><strong>Monday. December 7, 2009.</strong></span> It was 66 and cloudy this morning. Great sleeping weather, and if the sun comes out, it will be a great afternoon.</p>
<p>LATER</p>
<p>The sun didn’t come out. Instead it started raining. Fortunately I have gotten in the habit of always carrying an umbrella in my bag. It rained off and on all day. I bought some fruit and veggie filled pancakes on my way home then settled in for the evening.</p>
<p>Here are some pics of what has become my favorite café. The food is good, but the main reason I like it is the large tiled sidewalk on two of its sides. One side is on a very busy street. Great for people watching. The picture in the center below is of my waitress at 16:00. I was the only customer in the place.</p>

<p><span style="font-size:small;"><strong>Tuesday. December 8, 2009.</strong></span> More of the same weather. Cloudy and cool with intermittent drizzles.</p>
<p>After chess I stopped by my barbecue place on the way home. Ordered 2 chicken legs and 3 skewers of mutton. As always, I pointed to the picture on the menu and held up the number of fingers that I wanted of each item. I have done it that way dozens of times. Tonight they brought me 15 skewers of mutton. I protested, but quickly gave in because of language difficulties. I am sure the error was theirs because I could not possibly hold up 15 fingers. 15 skewers might sound like a lot, but it isn’t. I would guess it was less than 3 ounces total. I ate 6 or 8 of them and gave the rest to a beggar who came through the parking lot. The 15 skewers cost a total of 15 Yuan (about $2.15 USD).</p>
<p><span style="font-size:small;"><strong>Wednesday. December 9, 2009.</strong></span> Nice day. Cloudy and a little cool.</p>
<p>There was an article in the paper today that said the rain yesterday was caused by cloud seeding.</p>
<p>I had dinner in a little café about 5 blocks from my house. I had stopped there before and looked at the menu, but it was all in Chinese and only had a handful of pictures. Since I am trying to try new places, I decided to take a chance. I went in and sat down. It was a nice place with about 6 or 8 tables, a rack of magazines and newspapers for customers to read, and a nice view of the sidewalk.</p>
<p>I pointed to the picture of steamed dumplings on the menu. The waiter pointed to 2 columns of Chinese characters, one was marked 12 at the top, the other was marked 15. I guess the columns listed the types of fillings for the dumplings. I pointed to the top item in the 12 column, thinking it might be first because it was the most popular. I Also ordered a bottle of beer.</p>
<p>The dumplings turned out to have some sort of fish and veggie filling. I didn’t like them very much, and only ate about half of the dozen they served me. When I went to pay, the bill was 30 Yuan (about $4.25 USD). Of course it wasn’t broken down, so I have no idea what cost what. And no one spoke English. So I paid and left. I won’t go back there again.</p>
<p>This is the little street where the café is located. It is on the right with the blue sign. The street is too quiet for good people watching.</p>

<p><span style="font-size:small;"><strong>Thursday. December 10, 2009.</strong></span> The weather remains the same. Cloudy and cool, but not uncomfortably cool.</p>
<p>This afternoon I went to a store called Ole to get a sub sandwich like the one someone gave me a few days ago. It was in a shopping mall that I had passed numerous times, but never entered. It turned out to be a very high-end mall with all the big name store, like Armani, Cartier, LV, Rolex, etc. It even had an ice skating rink. The place was decorated for Christmas, but there were few people shopping. Maybe because it was 15:30 in the afternoon. I walked about an hour before going for my sandwich.</p>

<p>Ole was an interesting place. It was fairly large for a specialty food store. I noticed a huge wine department with several thousand different brands. They even had $2000.++ bottles of saké. But by this time I had to use the bathroom, so I bought my sandwich and caught the bus home. I will go back to Ole soon and explore it more thoroughly.</p>
<p>I had my sub for dinner. It was ham and roast beef. It was very good.</p>
<p><strong>Friday. December 11, 2009.</strong> They don’t have Daylight Saving Time here, so it is still pitch black at 06:00 when I get up.</p>
<p>Someone told me today that the Shenzhen Daily is owned by the government. That makes some of the stories I read in it make sense. Not logically, but it tells me why they were run.</p>
<p>I forgot to mention that the reason I went to the mall yesterday, in addition to getting the sub sandwich, was I have been invited to dinner in the same neighborhood tonight. Since getting around is such a pain, I thought I would try to find the restaurant ahead of time so it wouldn’t be a problem tonight.</p>
<p>My friend Mike threw the party. It was in a private room on the fourth floor of the restaurant. These are the fish and shell fish tanks outside the restaurant.</p>

<p>After Ace’s set I got a taxi home. It was about 02:00 when I fell into bed. A very nice day.</p>
<p><span style="font-size:small;"><strong>Saturday. December 12, 2009.</strong></span> I slept until almost 08:00, then I took a walk in the park. It was sunny and very comfortable. I realize I need to take advantage of this nice weather while it lasts.</p>
<p>Played chess at La Casa this afternoon. Came home early. My barbecue place had not opened, so I got a couple of veggie filled pancakes at the market, then went home for the evening.</p>
<p>The Goodyear blimp flew over this evening. I have no idea why it is here. There must be something going on, but I don’t know what.</p>

<title><![CDATA[Dodging Rain Drops]]></title>

I turned off my alarm and pictured myself waking up late in the morning fully refreshed but my body would have none of it. Instead, I woke up around five o’clock and then the stillness of the morning was disrupted by the echo of a gun shot down the street. Lovely. Luckily that’s the worst part of my day so far. </p>
<p>Since I had nothing to do and lots of time on my hands, I decided to visit the market bright and early and not only bought food, but also replaced the nylon reusable totes I bought about a year and a half ago to carry my groceries. One of the new ones is insulated, which is perfect for anything that has to go in the freezer or refrigerator when I get home.</p>

<p>I contemplated staying home the rest of the day due to the weather. It’s raining, and with the dark clouds overhead there’s very little light filtering through the blinds. It feels like I’m living in a dungeon. When nine o’clock arrived, I got off my lazy ass and visited the tire shop &#8212; and I’m glad I did. </p>
<p>I bought two Michelin Pilot tires and two Goodyear GS-A tires for a fraction of the cost if they were brand new. They have approximately 20-25k of treadwear left on them, and considering I drive about 5k miles a year I got a great deal and enough rubber to last two to three years.</p>
<p>The best part of all? Remember those brake pads I need to replace? If I bring them in they’ll install them for a fraction of what Midas charges. Can you say, “I get to keep my fingernails clean”? I know that sounds trivial, but when I used to own my muscle cars I worked on them myself –and I never, ever had clean fingernails no matter how much I tried to clean them.</p>

Pour Christian, &#8220;rien n&#8217;a changé&#8221; dans sa vie depuis le début du feuilleton Goodyear, fin 2006. Pourtant, au cours de ces années, comme pour ses collègues de l&#8217;usine d&#8217;Amiens-Nord (1 400 salariés), le couperet du plan social est passé tout près. Et à plusieurs reprises. Soit parce que ce plan était retiré par la direction pour en préparer un autre ou bien suspendu par les tribunaux à la demande de la CGT (Le Monde du 31 août). Et l&#8217;affaire n&#8217;est toujours pas terminée. Alors Christian, militant CGT (syndicat majoritaire), joue les durs. &#8220;J&#8217;ai toujours mon emploi, mon salaire, lance-t-il. Quand j&#8217;ai fini mon travail, je prends ma douche, je sors et au revoir Goodyear. Je n&#8217;y pense plus.&#8221;</p>
<p>Comment ont vécu ces ouvriers durant ces trois années ? Les uns se protègent, en faisant comme si de rien n&#8217;était. Mais d&#8217;autres acceptent de raconter ce qui a changé dans leur vie. Certains ont dû, par exemple, renoncer à des projets. &#8220;Je devrais refaire la salle de bains où il y a de l&#8217;humidité et aussi le salon, explique Bernard, 40 ans, père de trois enfants. Cela aurait coûté environ 4 000 euros mais il est hors de question de prendre un crédit dans cette période d&#8217;incertitude.&#8221; Gervais, 53 ans, dont 31 années chez Goodyear, gagne 1 700 euros net par mois. Il projetait d&#8217;agrandir sa véranda, des travaux estimés à 20 000 euros. &#8220;Avec ma femme, on venait de finir de payer notre maison, explique-t-il. On pouvait repartir sur un autre projet. Mais à mon âge, si je me retrouve à la rue, ce ne sera pas facile de retrouver du travail. Alors par peur du lendemain, j&#8217;ai renoncé à ces travaux.&#8221;</p>
<p>Certains banquiers n&#8217;ont pas voulu jouer le jeu avec les Goodyear. Didier, 48 ans (environ 1 500 euros par mois, avec 28 ans d&#8217;ancienneté), une fille de 20 ans au chômage, en a fait l&#8217;expérience. Il devait changer sa voiture, achetée en 1994. Mais le Crédit agricole lui a refusé un prêt : &#8220;On m&#8217;a fait comprendre que c&#8217;est parce que je travaille chez Goodyear et que la société ne va pas bien. J&#8217;étais écoeuré.&#8221; Du coup, il a pris un crédit chez son concessionnaire, à 9 % d&#8217;intérêt, le double du taux pratiqué par sa banque&#8230;</p>
<p>Les vacances aussi ont parfois été sacrifiées. David, 38 ans, depuis 10 ans chez Goodyear, et père d&#8217;un enfant de 9 ans, ne part plus qu&#8217;une fois par an au lieu de deux. &#8220;J&#8217;adapte ma façon de vivre en anticipant un coup dur&#8221;, dit-il. Les extras pour son fils, en revanche, ont été maintenus. &#8220;On arrive à le satisfaire, avec l&#8217;éducation qui est la nôtre, c&#8217;est-à-dire en lui faisant comprendre qu&#8217;un achat est toujours un sacrifice.&#8221;</p>
<p>Et l&#8217;avenir ? Nombreux sont ceux qui craignent que l&#8217;étiquette Goodyear, celle d&#8217;une entreprise dont les salariés ont mené une longue lutte, leur colle à la peau au moment de rechercher un emploi. Certains, comme Bernard, restent confiants : &#8220;Etant entraîneur de foot pour des jeunes, j&#8217;ai beaucoup de relations, et puis, à mon âge, je peux me former&#8221;, dit-il. Mais d&#8217;autres s&#8217;inquiètent. &#8220;Je ne suis pas un fainéant, affirme Gervais. Mais je ne pourrai pas faire n&#8217;importe quoi. J&#8217;ai des tendinites aux genoux, aux épaules, provoquées par le travail.&#8221; Grand gaillard, lui aussi entraîneur de foot, David étonne ses collègues quand il confie qu&#8217;il est &#8220;angoissé depuis trois ans&#8221;. &#8220;J&#8217;y pense beaucoup, glisse-t-il, et je ne suis pas optimiste, car j&#8217;ai conscience de l&#8217;état du marché du travail.&#8221;</p>
<p>L&#8217;usine tourne au ralenti, à cause de la vétusté des installations et de la fatigue et du manque de motivation des hommes. Régulièrement, les délégués exercent le droit de retrait &#8220;parce que des gars se sentent mal sur des machines&#8221;, indique un délégué. Mesurée à l&#8217;infirmerie, leur tension peut atteindre 18 ou 19. &#8220;C&#8217;est l&#8217;expression de leur mal-être, même s&#8217;ils n&#8217;ont pas toujours les mots pour le dire, ajoute-il. Parfois, on en voit partir à l&#8217;infirmerie les larmes aux yeux.&#8221; Entre 2006 et 2008, le taux d&#8217;absentéisme est passé de 10 % à 16 %. Le taux de fréquence des accidents du travail et leur gravité ont doublé en deux ans.</p>

<p>In un mercato molto concorrenziale e con tanti competitors, abbiamo scelto le marche che si sono distinte per qualità, tecnologia e prezzo. Possiamo trovare scarpe di sicurezza da venti fino a cento euro ed ogni modello ha delle specifiche diverse.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">A mio parere possiamo dividere le scarpe da lavoro in due gruppi : quelle da cantiere e per tutti i lavori più a rischio,   e quelle per lavori dove è richiesta una protezione ma dove il lavoro è fondamentalmente senza troppi rischi.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Una scarpa per muratore, carpentiere , ferraiolo o qualsiasi figura che lavori dentro un cantiere edile deve, innanzitutto, avere una protezione totale del piede con puntale e lamina antiperforazione.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Quindi certificazione S1P o S3 obbligatorie.  Solitamente un muratore o carpentiere cerca una scarpa robusta, con una suola affidabile e, dove necessario, una tomaia impermeabile (per l&#8217;inverno o se stà lavorando nelle fondamenta del cantiere dove c&#8217;è fango e acqua).</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Solitamente queste scarpe hanno tutte una colorazione beige perchè  più adatte a mascherare  lo sporco di sabbia e cemento.</p>

<p>Questi sono solo alcuni esempi di scarpe indicate per lavori di cantiere. Tutte hanno puntale e lamina antiperforazione. Appoggiando il cursore sulle foto potete leggere il modello della scarpa.</p>
<p>Il cantiere però non è composto solo da carpentieri e muratori, e una parte importantissima del lavoro viene svolta da ferraioli, elettricisti, piastrellisti e tutti quei lavori di rifinitura che richiedono scarpe specifiche.</p>
<p>Ad esempio. Il posatore di pavimenti o il ferraiolo trascorre parecchio tempo con le ginocchia piegate e la scarpa è sottoposta ad una torsione continua. A questo punto una scarpa rigida con lamina di acciaio contribuisce solo ad affaticare il piede e a fine giornata saranno dolori!!!!</p>
<p>Le nuove scarpe con lamina antiperforazione in Kevlar risolvono brillantemente questo problema!!!!</p>

<p>La prova della bilancia non lascia dubbi. Le scarpe munite di puntali in composito (Goodyear) o alluminio (U-Power e Diadora) sono nettamente più leggere di una qualsiasi scarpa con puntale in acciaio (Cofra Nilo). La differenza di peso non è dettata solo dal puntale ma anche dalla lamina antiperforazione, che nelle due scarpe leggere è in Kevlar mentre nella Nilo è in acciaio.</p>
<p>Se la matematica non è un&#8217;opinione la scarpa Nilo pesa mediamente il 25% in più delle sorelle maggiori ultraleggere. Un vantaggio di non poco conto.</p>
<p>Questo test non vuole assolutamente screditare le scarpe tradizionali come la Nilo, che comunque rimangono le più vendute ed apprezzate per il loro rapporto qualità / prezzo.  Però questo ci fa capire come una scarpa non si possa acquistare solo per la sua estetica ma deve essere scelta per come è costruita dentro!!!</p>
<p>E dopo un mondo di scarpe color beige passiamo a tutti i mestieri che preferiscono una scarpa scura. Pensiamo al magazziniere, all&#8217;autista, alla guardia giurata e a tutti coloro che pur non facendo lavoro a rischio devono attraversare aree di produzione e quindi devono necessariamente avere una scarpa antinfortunistica ai piedi&#8230;possibilmente comoda e leggera!!!!</p>

<p>Notare la differenza di peso tra scarpa S1P e S3. Nonostante entrambe abbiamo lamina e puntale ultraleggeri, la pelle di nabuk impermeabile della Goodyear aumenta il peso complessivo della scarpa, ma è un compromesso giusto pur di avere una scarpa comunque impermeabile. Altro dettaglio che non vi sarà sfuggito è il peso della Diadora Glove Telata. L&#8217;unica scarpa di tutto il catalogo che è scesa sotto il muro dei 500gr. Ha battuto anche se stessa visto che il modello scamosciato 100% pesa 530gr. KGHM Ecoren został uhonorowany przez firmę Goodyear Off-The-Road Tires Europe prestiżowym certyfikatem dla najlepszego użytkownika opon przemysłowych w Europie. Dokument przyznano w dowód uznania za rekordowo długą eksploatację oryginalnych opon w czterech ładowarkach Volvo pracujących w lubińskiej spółce.</p>
<p>Ładowarki kołowe Volvo L180E z KGHM Ecoren przepracowały w sumie 50 699 godzin w latach 2003-2009 na czterech zestawach opon RL5K ? 26.5R25, co daje średnio ponad 12 600 roboczogodzin dla jednego zestawu ogumienia. Przeciętna żywotność opon przemysłowych Goodyear klasy R25 wynosi do 8 tys. godzin pracy, w Ecorenie czas ten wydłużono dwukrotnie bez uszczerbku dla wysokich parametrów eksploatacyjnych opon oraz wydajności i bezpieczeństwa pracy.</p>
<p>Długość użytkowania ogumienia ciężkich pojazdów przemysłowych zależy od przestrzegania przepisów eksploatacji szczegółowo opisanych przez producenta opon. &#8211; Spełniliśmy wszystkie wymogi określone przez Goodyear ? podkreśla Roman Nędzewicz, dyrektor oddziału produkcji kruszyw KGHM Ecoren. &#8211; Dzięki temu opony tak długo zachowały swoje właściwości. To duże osiągnięcie, ponieważ nasze ładowarki pracują na podłożu z żużlu pomiedziowego. To materiał o dużej ścieralności, dwukrotnie twardszy od kruszywa bazaltowego.</p>
<p>Rekordowe opony Goodyear eksploatowano w ładowarkach kołowych pracujących w Ecorenie począwszy od 2003 roku. W ciągu sześciu lat eksploatacji hałd żużlu pomiedziowego z hut należących do KGHM ładowarki kołowe Volvo L180E przeładowały 8 do 9 milionów ton surowca i gotowego wyrobu, co daje średnio 2 do 2,25 mln ton na jedną ładowarkę. &#8211; Żadna inna firma na naszym kontynencie nie uzyskała takich wyników na jednym zestawie opon ? mówi Roman Nędzewicz.</p>
<p>Oszczędna eksploatacja opon wpisuje się w proekologiczną politykę KGHM Ecoren. Im rzadziej zmienia się ogumienie pojazdów, tym lepiej dla środowiska naturalnego. Przyjazne dla środowiska są również ładowarki Volvo L180E ? spełniają one wyśrubowane normy odnośnie emisji spalin i hałasu. Również po zakończeniu eksploatacji maszyny nie będą obciążeniem dla środowiska: ponad 95 proc. materiałów użytych do budowy ładowarki pracującej w Ecorenie nadaje się do przerobu wtórnego.</p>
<p>Certyfikat Goodyear OTR Europe odebrał we wrześniu br. dyrektor Roman Nędzewicz. Dokument podpisał Manuel Pintado, dyrektor zarządzający spółką Goodyear na obszarze Europy, Bliskiego Wschodu i Azji.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Michelin and Goodyear, the most recent tyre brands in Formula One, have played down suggestions they might take over from Bridgestone as F1&#8217;s exclusive supplier in 2011 and beyond.</p>
<p>A spokeswoman for Michelin&#8217;s North American headquarters said the French company is not interested in returning to Formula One, after it pulled out at the end of the &#8216;tyre war&#8217; era three years ago and then rowed with the FIA.</p>
<p>The American brand Goodyear left F1 at the end of 1998, following an ultra-successful three decades on the grid.</p>
<p>&#8220;We have no plans to re-enter F1,&#8221; spokesman Ed Markey told the <em>Akron Beacon Journal</em>, which like Goodyear is based in Akron, Ohio.<br />
&#8220;However, we continually evaluate a wide range of opportunities to determine the best fit for our strategic direction and make decisions based on the best interests of the company,&#8221; he added.</p>
<p>Other reports said the Italian tyre maker Pirelli, having shown interest in obtaining the 2008-2010 tender, is also not likely to be interested in returning to F1.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>So I have been busy the past three or four days&#8230;actually I have been busy all last week, and I felt like everything was going so fast and I was just wading in a boggy marsh. We had an excellent revival, it started on Sunday and went until Wednesday. It was great.</p>
<p>I helped out the day before Halloween at a kids&#8217; fest that our church was putting on and that went well, I ended up painting faces. Which was so much fun. I love to paint faces. the funny thing was that my youngest brother wanted me to paint his face like Heath Ledger&#8217;s version of the Joker, from Dark Knight. It turned out pretty well, What do you think?</p>

<p>So on Halloween, I went to help some of the guys in our church who are planning to go to Mexico on a mission&#8217;s trip to help build a church. So we went to the Coliseum to help run a booth for the Goodyear family night thing. We had to help give out candy in the trick or treat line. There were so many cute costumes and some were a little weird, but the was a lil guy maybe three or four years old and he was dressed up as Micheal Jackson, an old school  a umpaloompa from Willy Wanka and the chocolate factory and a lil girl dressed up as Rainbow Bright  tied for my favorites! (^-^) There was a sea of ninjas, handy Mannies, Toy Story characters all over the place, and too many Optimus Primes to count. I saw my own little munchkin boy (my friend&#8217;s son) in his sock monkey costume. I was so happy to see him! I went with my friend to eat lunch at one of the many local Chinese food restaurants in town. Nothing could bum my mood!</p>
<p>UNTIL&#8230;&#8230;.</p>
<p>Yes, you knew it was coming huh? LOL yeah, so the youth pastor of our church brought up the marriage /dating subject out of the blue! I was shocked. Grant it, it does bother me at times that I am still single. However I just chalk it up to not being time for me and the right guy to have found each other.  But this was ridiculous&#8230; He brought it up at youth convention, also out of the blue. Like I was so concerned with finding that person&#8230;. My heart is currently in a box labeled fragile. It just bugs me that he would bring it up when I was enjoying the moment and afterward it left me wondering and in a really bummed mood. I don&#8217;t think I wear my heart on my sleeve, but two or three times he has done this&#8230; What right does he have to but into my personal business like that? lol I know he was probably meaning it to boost my morale but it had opposite effects. So my thought on the matter, unless God says its time, I am not ready to be with someone.</p>

<p>Le blocage de l&#8217;usine Dunlop-Goodyear d&#8217;Amiens-sud, entamé mercredi pour renégocier un accord sur la réorganisation du travail en 4X8, a été levé vendredi soir, suite à une décision de justice saisie en référé, a-t-on appris samedi auprès des syndicats et de la direction. «Le tribunal de grande instance d&#8217;Amiens, saisi en référé, a ordonné vendredi après-midi aux salariés de rendre le libre accès à l&#8217;usine. Depuis, conformément à cette décision, le site d&#8217;Amiens-sud n&#8217;est donc plus bloqué», a annoncé samedi à l&#8217;AFP une porte-parole de Dunlop-Goodyear.</p>

<p><strong><span style="color:#c0c0c0;">1.000 euros d&#8217;astreinte en cas de non levée du blocage</span></strong></p>

<p>«Aux alentours de 17h, hier (vendredi), le libre accès au site a été rendu suite à une décision de justice, qui menaçait dix salariés d&#8217;une peine de 1.000 euros d&#8217;astreinte par jour, en cas de non-levée du blocage», a confirmé Thierry Recoupé, délégué syndical CFTC de l&#8217;usine d&#8217;Amiens-sud.</p>

<p>Cependant, «même si l&#8217;accès à l&#8217;usine est de nouveau libre, le piquet de grève continue jusqu&#8217;à lundi matin, et l&#8217;usine n&#8217;a toujours pas repris son rythme normal de production», a assuré Patrice Martin, délégué Sud-Chimie, précisant que samedi matin, une vingtaine de salariés étaient toujours rassemblés devant l&#8217;usine. «On espère que la direction a compris le message», a-t-il ajouté en précisant qu&#8217;une prochaine réunion de négociation est d&#8217;ores et déjà prévue pour mardi.</p>

<p>Parallèlement, la direction de Dunlop-Goodyear a entamé une procédure de sanctions disciplinaires à l&#8217;encontre de plusieurs salariés, accusés de tentatives de vol et de dégradations dans l&#8217;usine dans la nuit de jeudi à vendredi, a indiqué la porte-parole de Dunlop-Goodyear.</p>

<p>«Actuellement, 5 salariés sont mis à pied et des procédures de licenciement ont été engagées», a déclaré M. Recoupé. Les salariés de l&#8217;usine d&#8217;Amiens-sud (1.100 personnes) avaient accepté en 2008 de signer un accord de réorganisation du travail en 4X8 après un référendum du personnel. Début septembre, cette réorganisation du travail a été remise en cause par le tribunal de grande instance d&#8217;Amiens, ce qui a obligé la direction a renégocier un accord avec les syndicats du site.</p>

<p>Converting their miles per American gallon to litres per hundred kilometres yields an astonishing 4.155 litres /100 km in their 2009 Volkswagen Jetta diesel.<br />
This time they were riding on Goodyear Fuel Max tyres, and improved on their 2008 figure by a further 15.4%!</p>
<p>This consumption is more fuel-efficient than the most popular hybrid, and shows what can be done with modern diesel technology, careful preparation and fuel saving driving techniques.</p>

<p>So how do they do it? Tyres obviously play a part, since Goodyear sponsored their 9000 mile circuit of the States. We are constantly told to maintain high air pressures if fuel savings are desired, but what are the limits? A tyre usually absorbs around 2 KW just rolling around under load at 120 km/h.</p>
<p>The safe maximum pressure of a tyre is shown on the sidewall, and for a passenger tyre is in the 36 (Standard Load)- 42 (Extra Load) p.s.i. range. It will not burst at 43 p.s.i., but a maximum is specified to maintain a margin of safety for tyre abuse such as potholes and rough edges. So economy drivers go to the limit, or beyond. A tyre with 15 p.s.i. pressure pulls nearly twice the rolling resistance as the same tyre at 33 p.s.i. at 120 km/h, the higher pressure giving a fuel consumption improvement of about 4%. Steel belt radials have the lowest rolling resistance, too.</p>
<p>Staying with tyre design, a narrow tread width, shallow tread pattern, and a rounded tread arc radius all contribute to lower rolling resistance, and with specially compounded tread rubber it is possible to design a tyre to maximise the reduction in a tyre’s contribution to fuel consumption.</p>
<p>Preparation of the vehicle using low friction lubricants, a well run-in engine, diesel fuel designed to give “more bang for the buck”, and other tricks of the trade are also used, such as refuelling at low ambient temperatures, like the middle of the night.</p>
<p>But driver’s skills are required to get good figures. Feather-footing, low top speeds, shift points carefully calibrated, travelling when wind speeds are low, smooth car surface with no unnecessary projections, climbing hills carefully (just making it over the top), and no air-conditioning are techniques used. Depending on the rules of the contest, in most cases coasting downhill, and drafting, is prohibited. In certified fuel economy runs conducted in Australia, an independent observer travels in the car to prevent this.</p>

SMRs are versatile tools, especially for reaching consumer audiences. <a href="http://toughsledding.wordpress.com/files/2009/10/goodyearlogo.gif"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-4001" title="goodyearlogo" src="http://toughsledding.wordpress.com/files/2009/10/goodyearlogo.gif?w=300" alt="goodyearlogo" width="211" height="47" /></a>They incorporate audio, video and still photo components along with story information. And they allow for comments and bookmarking, making them truly interactive. <!--more--></span></p>
<p><span style="color:#000000;"> </span></p>
<p>But there&#8217;s a downside to SMRs. Those audio, video and photo components &#8212; done professionally &#8212; don&#8217;t come cheap. And with budget cutting all the rage these days, who can afford such a labor-intensive news vehicle? There&#8217;s also the question of &#8220;How much is too much?&#8221; when it comes to communicating a story.</p>

<p>But what if you already have the audio and video in your archives? And what if you have really sharp interns already researching the story for an internal campaign?</p>

<p>That&#8217;s how Kent State seniors Justin Metz and Amanda Hayes came to post their <a href="http://www.pitchengine.com/thegoodyeartirerubberco/goodyear-celebrates-111-years-of-innovation/23491/">first professional SMR</a> earlier this semester. Interns for Goodyear Global Communications, Justin and Amanda were assigned to an internal communication project called &#8220;Celebrating 111 Years of Innovation.&#8221; It was a campaign to boost employee pride in a company that, along with the auto industry, has seen tough times of late.</p>
<p><span style="color:#000000;"><strong>&#8220;The story has zero news value on its own,&#8221;</strong> Justin said. &#8220;Without the old photos and videos from the archive, no one would have cared.&#8221; And what an archive. Stored in the vaults at Goodyear are old TV commercials, training films, and all sorts of photos and artifacts, some dating back a century or more. A veritable mother lode of content, but not a great story hook. I mean, who celebrates a 111th birthday?<br />

<p><strong>&#8220;We rolled out the internal project in August,&#8221;</strong> Amanda said. &#8220;But we didn&#8217;t have much hope for traditional news coverage because we produced so much information,&#8221; Amanda said. &#8220;But we found so many cool photos, videos and information, and we wanted to share that part of Goodyear&#8217;s history in an interactive way.&#8221;</p>
<p><span style="font-family:Calibri,Verdana,Helvetica,Arial;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><span style="color:#000000;"> </span></span></span>The pair produced a traditional news release (featuring just 11 of the 111 innovations), but it was hardly a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man_bites_dog_%28journalism%29">man-bites-dog</a> story. But<span style="color:#3366ff;"><span style="color:#000000;"> maybe the greatest accomplishment by these interns was selling the idea to Goodyear&#8217;s PR brass. </span></span></p>
<p><span style="color:#3366ff;"><span style="color:#000000;"><strong>&#8220;The company had never produced an interactive release,&#8221;</strong> Amanda said, &#8220;Our supervisors told us they&#8217;d rather us try it with a soft news story than a major event. The 111 Innovations story was perfect because it could be accompanied by lots of photos, videos and links.&#8221; </span></span></p>
<p><span style="color:#3366ff;"><span style="color:#000000;"><a href="http://toughsledding.wordpress.com/files/2009/10/pe1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-3985" title="pe" src="http://toughsledding.wordpress.com/files/2009/10/pe1.jpg" alt="pe" width="150" height="42" /></a>While the SMR added one more experience to Goodyear&#8217;s growing social-media activities, the metrics are soft to nonexistant. The release earned 2,000+ visits in its first week, but a server problem triggered a reset the counter, so a good bit of the data were lost. </span></span></p>
<p><strong>So did the SMR increase tire sales? </strong>&#8220;Probably not,&#8221; Justin said. &#8220;But it did remind a lot of people that Goodyear has a rich history, and any company that&#8217;s been around for 111 years must be doing something right.&#8221; And that was an extension of what Goodyear was trying to achieve internally. In the end, all were happy campers.</p>
<p>Like so many tools in social media, the SMR offers real promise in reaching and engaging wider audiences, and in using a news tool to extend beyond news media. PR professionals know how to do this whereas the marketing types often do not.</p>
<p>While I&#8217;m proud of our students&#8217; performance on the project, part of the lesson well all must learn is the need for more precise measures in our communication tools. And we’ll have to do that work if we hope to turn the SMR into a mainstream tool for PR. But here in my corner of higher education, we&#8217;re having a great time with the experiment. We learn from what works, and we learn from what doesn&#8217;t.</p>
<p>But you know, as an old tire and automotive PR guy who launched his career in Akron, then Detroit, the SMR is like a walk down memory lane.</p>
