As an experiment I tried creating a google sites website by copying the html from Shoshana’s earthlink website into a google sites template which resulted in this new website.

Kenapa sampai ada pesan error dari blogger? itu karena anda meng copy paste kode dari postingan blog yang menggunakan mesin WordPress bukan dari postingan blog yang menggunakan mesin Blogger. Lho… ko ada apa dengan mesin worpress. Begini, antara mesin wordpress dengan blogger tentu saja ada perbedaan, begitupun dengan mesin posting nya. Jika anda menuliskan kode atau script semisal HTML ataupun javascript di dalam postingan, maka tanda kutip satu ( ‘ ) ataupun tanda kutip dua ( ” ) akan secara otomatis di ubah. Apakah terlihat perubahannya? perubahannya tidak terlalu terlihat namun memang ada. tanda kutip yang asli bentuknya hampir tegak lurus dan kalau yang sudah di ubah, bentuk tanda kutif akan terlihat miring.

Kenapa hanya di karenakan bentuknya yang miring tapi fatal kejadiannya? tentu saja ini fatal, karena tanda kutif yang sudah di ubah oleh mesin posting wordpress tadi tidak di anggap atau bukan bagian dari bahasa perintah suatu script. Bagaimana cara mengantisipasinya? cara menantipasinya adalah tentu saja anda harus mengubah tanda kutip yang ada pada kode hasil dari copy paste dengan tanda kutip yang baru, berikut adalah ilustrasi dengan memakai bantuan gambar :

Jika anda cermati gambar di atas, terlihat bahwa kode script hasil dari copy paste, tanda kutipnya terlihat bengkok-bengkok dan tanda kutip yang sudah di perbaiki terlihat tekag lurus. Sedikit tips dari kang rohman untuk lebih mempercepat penggantian tanda kutip tersebut adalah dengan menggunakan fasilitas replace, caranya adalah seperti ini :

1. Copy paste kode yang mau di ubah ke dalam notepad.
2. Klik menu Edit yang ada di bar menu bagian paling atas. Setelah keluar option pilihan, pilih Replace….



3. Copy tanda kutip dua ( “ ) yang ada (yang mau di ubah), kemudian paste pada kolom find what (ingat! harus di copy paste, jangan di ketik). Ketik tanda kutip dua ( ” ) secara manual dari keyboard anda pada kolom Replace With. Kemudian klik pada tombol Replace All, maka secara otomatis seluruh tanda kutip dua ( “ ) akan di ubah semuanya dalam hitungan detik saja.



4. Ulangi langkah di atas untuk tanda kutip satu ( ‘ ).
5. Selesai.

Perlu di perhatikan pula bahwa hasil pengubahan oleh mesin wordpress tersebut mengubah tanda kutip satu (‘) dan kutip dua ( ” ) menjadi dua bentuk yaitu berdiri dan terbalik ( silahkan perhatikan benar-benar kodenya ), sehingga ketika melakukan langkah di atas anda harus melakukan unutk ke empat bentuk tersebut.

Langkah di atas bisa lebih mempersingkat kerja anda, karena walaupun tanda kutip berjumlah ribuan akan di ubah secara otomatis hanya dalam beberapa detik saja. Langkah selanjutnya tentu saja adalah kode yang di ubah sudah siap untuk di pasang pada template anda.

Buat anda pengguna wordpress.com yang suka menuliskan kode atau script di dalam postingan, agar terhindar dari hal yang tidak menyenangkan karena pembaca anda banyak yang berkomentar mengalami kegagalan ketika mengcopy paste kode dari anda, alangkah baiknya menyimpan script yang asli pada server lain semisal google pages. R10 daki bazı arkadaşlar kampanya başlatmıştı. Google pagesde yayınlanmakta olan kemalizminkarinagrisi adlı siteyi şikayet ediyorlardı . Sonunda başardılar google pages komple kapandı. Bahsedilen sitede atatürk’le ilgili makaleler yayınlamış bir arkadaş. Kanıtlarıda var sanırım altlarına yazmış nerelerden aldığını. Ne ise böyle giderse yakında evimizdeki modemede kilit vurucaklar. The last two posts have included videos of how to build a Lead Capture Page using google pages, which are free to users of gmail. You get three sets of there pages to use to create up to 9 lead capture pages or build three sites, or any combination there off.

I build this site using 2 of the three pages available, but I urge you not to think linearly. I have one more page to build, but almost unlimited potential for adding pages to this site. Here`s how you can accomplish that.

First go to the site and have a look and what I created all for the price of a domain name for under $10.00 a year.

I used the subtitle bar to put my links in. So I linked to the next page by using the URL google supplies for each page. I just added the link using hyperlink. That simple. You can link any page you own that way. So I also linked in my lead capture page using a different set of google pages, and I have a e-course I will be linking in there all well. So essential you end up with quite a site with a lot of information on it. Not only that, as you can see, I have linked up my other sites as well to help drive traffic, that way everything is feed ing traffic through the link.

Google Pages are easy to use and format. You do not need any special skills. The html editor is down in the bottom right hand corner so that you can post in HTML code.

You really can’t go wrong building sites, and lead capture pages on this system.

In the follow up video you learn how to use a domain url to mask the Google Pages url which tend to be long and not pretty. From watching just these two video’s I was able to build a mini site using Google Pages in about two hours. After you watch the video I will give you the link to my new website I created just so you can get an idea how it all fits together.

It is really a shocking news that Google is going to collapse it’s Google Page Creator (GPC). Instead of GPC they are introducing Google Sites (GS). I’ve noticed it recently. I couldn’t resist my surprise at this news. GPC is a simple way to create web pages without knowing HTML. GPC’s rich text editor is now included in many other Google services, but Google decided to focus on the more powerful GS. Google doesn’t allow new users to sign up for GPC. While current users are still able to use the services of GPC, new users are being directed to its sister site, Google Sites. Google is expected to move all Page Creator content to Google Pages later in the year.

Google Sites is almost similar to GPC. I said ‘almost’ because it doesn’t allow users to upload any HTML file. Which means users have to pick the websites’ look from GS’s default template; users don’t have any privilege to set their own HTML pages. It is a bad news for me, because all of my GPC sites are using their own HTML files not GPC’s default one. Though Google said that they will shift all the files, images and web pages stored in GPC  to Google Sites later this year, this may be a concern for some as it will lead to broken links because GS and GPC follows a different URL structure. More over as GS doesn’t support any uploaded HTML pages, the transition may permanently delete all of those unsupported files. To me, GPC is far far better than GS.

I actually have no idea why Google is closing their one of the most popular web services. Google Sites is nothing more than a wiki. Do the people need a website or a wiki for their personal or business homepage? Google is saying that GS is more powerful than GPC as GS uses the contents management. Well… this is the only thing the GPC is lacking of. Wouldn’t it be better if the feature is added in GPC? Wiki is obviously an important feature in today’s internet, but people will not like it as their home page. So, what if both GPC and GS are staying side by side? I don’t any necessity of closing either one for surviving the other.

Users of GPC is already depressed hearing this news. They still believe that GPC will not be closed at all some how. They have also taken an initiative to save the GPC by a petition. The same debate is going on Google Page Creator Discussion Group. I recommend every GPC user to sign the petition. And above all I still believe that the world really still needs Google Page Creator. So a request to Google, “Can’t you please save the Google Page Creator from it’s termination!“

I just found this video which explains how to build a lead capture page using Google Pages. This is a really simple way to get started with your own page, something I recommend over using cloned Lead capture pages.

Cloned sites tend to loose their potency very quickly because everyone is using the same page.

PS Are you using Link Referral to drive traffic to your website?

Spoiler: this post describes the problem when an Internet domain is is setup for Google Apps AND Google Pages is activated.  If you want to use that domain for Blogger as well instead of the xyzabc.blogspot.com, Blogger refuses to accept that domain with an error message (see below).  (There might be other causes for the error message as suggested here.)

“Another blog is already hosted at this address.”

You wanted to submit something like www.mymegadomain.com in the Blogger publishing settings instead of myverycomplicatedname.blogspot.com.

That is the error message that Blogger gave me for a couple of days, though I had done all the requested changes to the DNS configuration.  At first I thought it was temporary, it often takes time for DNS settings to take effect.  Then I tried again, same message, no time to fully investigate, researched a bit, rechecked settings, no solution, no time, mmhh, postboned. And again… until urgency crept in and it had to be solved…

I remembered my pal Google, incidentally the step-father of blogger.  Over 9000 hits. Mmmh. I am not alone, the reassuring feedback when faced with a problem.

After a couple of sites, eureka, it’s a bug. And a quite old one.  Turns out, it is a problem with the combination of Google Apps (combined with the domain name you want to use for blogger), activrted Google Pages (Google Sites seems innocent) and Blogger.  Google Pages and Blogger apparrently share a table regarding the Google DNS management.  The web, ie Google Groups offered two solutions: a rather months old one and a newer one, both workarounds.  The first one is based on the experience of some bloggers.  A lot back and forth, de-activating Google Pages from Google Apps, then re-activating and a bit more.

Then I found a semi-official Google workaround. Funny enough hat one demonstrates a usage of a public Google spreadsheet as a web form, called the Magical Custom Domain Form.  MMMhh.  Magical, right.

Okay, my Sherlock brain combined: they haven’t solved the bug yet (July 2008), the problem still needs a manual workaround either by a Goggle guy via the form or the DIY de-activation of Google Pages plus… mmmh.

I decided to first try just disabling Google Pages which was activated for trial purposes only.  Waited a bit more than 30 minutes.  And bingo.  After another go to change the publishing setting, it went through, everything is fine.

Message: simply de-activate Google Pages, if you don’t need that service and wait for more than 30 min, maybe a little longer. Then try again submitting your web address for Blogger in the <Publishing> section.  Magical.  Less is more.

If you need to re-activate pages, do it as the blogger in Google Groups suggested. I have no need for Pages, which seems to be orphaned within Google anyway, Blogger is much better and powerful as a customisable Google web hosting solution.  Google Sites is more practical especially for intranets, the user friendly wiki Intrathingy. Blogger offers so much manipulation of the HTML and CSS code (search for anything you want to do, strip it of blogger elements, new templates, Javascript whatever), that you can basically use blogger as a powerful CMS system, hosted for free.  It would be nice to be able to combine Blogger and Google Sites more easily, especially using the logins of Google Apps etc.  But boy, the combination of Picasa (heck even Flickr), blogger, widgets, Google Sites, Google Analytics, Google Apps, Gmail, Calendar, App Engine is damn attractive. Search for specific solutions, there are so many scripts, workarounds, tricks, APIs available, the problem is not if they exist but rather, will I find the right one in the masses of possibilities.

Oh and before I forgot, I wondered how to point the domain default without the “www” prefix to the blogger site as well.  Problem is, your DNS wants the default to be an IP number, not a domain.

Once the www.mysuperdomain.com is accepted, Blogger offers the option to use the domain setting without the “www” as well, hurray, next headache prevented.

Last night, I had a web dilemma: I wanted to host one web page, but not on any of the servers I currently have access to, since this would be content posted on behalf of a different organization. Because this one static page only needs to be active for a couple months, after which I can delete it, I was not inclined to buy server space at any cost.

Thanks to a well-timed Instant Message from Ron DuPlain, I saw the light: Google Pages (http://pages.google.com). This is Google’s answer to free static web hosting, accessed through your Google account. It provides:

• A nice collection of style sheets to use as templates
• A quick and dirty (web-based) visual web page editor (simple, yet effective)
• A simple upload function if you want to use images or roll your own HTML

You get up to 100MB for your pages, accessible at http://*.googlepages.com URLs. With the page that I cooked up last night, I’m barely touching my quota.

These pages also exist on Google though we seldom stumble upon them.

I am pleased to introduce DenverSEO.info, a web page that goes over the basics of search engine optimization: what is SEO, how can you do SEO yourself, and Denver-specific SEO.  Many of Katz Web Design’s clients are unclear as to what search engine optimization is, so I hope this page gets them started with their own optimization.

The web page was constructed using Google Pages, which was very simple to set up, but unfortunately, they don’t allow you to point your domain there properly, so I’ve hosted it on the KWD server.

Because this domain is a .info, it’s very informative (with little self-promotion), and I hope that users will find it to be helpful.  Leave feedback below!
