Google terkenal akan mesin pencarinya yang sangat handal, ringan dan akurat.

Setelah mengeluarkan Android… sebuah sistem operasi untuk smartphone, tentunya Android juga dibekali dengan mesin pencari yang handal untuk memudahkan user dalam melakukan pencarian apa aja, kapan aja dan dimana aja.

Seperti contoh gambar diatas, keyword pencarian terakhir akan ditampilkan dibawah field Quick Searech Box. Hal ini sangat membantu jika kita ingin melakukan pencarian ulang dengan keyword yang sama dan mengurangi proses typing berulang-ulang.

Gambar disampingnya adalah contoh hasil pencarian dengan keyword “ma”. Hebatnya mesin pencari di Android ini adalah, semua hal yang berhubungan dengan keyword tersebut akan ditampilkan!!! Mulai dari aplikasi yang ada di android, SMS/MMS, email, kontak dan juga link/referensi ke internet semua ditampilkan di satu layar.

Hasil pencarian juga diurutkan dengan baik oleh Android, semua hal yang berhasil ditemukan didalam internal Android akan ditampilkan di urutan teratas dan berikutnya adalah link ke internet.

Selain itu, hasil pencarian juga dikelompokkan sesuai fungsinya masing-masing. Lihat gambar diatas, jika kita tap “More results…” maka akan muncul hasil pencarian berdasarkan kelompok fungsi tertentu beserta jumlah hasil pencarian yang ditemukan.

Jika kita tap lagi kelompok hasil pencarian tersebut, maka hasil pencarian akan bisa dilihat secara detil. Seperti contoh gambar diatas, hasil pencarian dengan keyword “ma” menghasilkan 6 kontak dan juga 4 aplikasi yang ada di sistem Android.

Sekarang… coba ketikkan keyword “SyamSyah” di androidmu, dan lihat apakah blog ini muncul di hasil pencarian yang teratas ??? hehehehe…

Après m’etre emballée très vite pour google wave, fait des pieds et des mains (pas tant que ca en fait!) pour avoir mon invit” je laisse le cadeau un peu de côté, telle une enfant capricieuse pour qui son jouet est déjà trop vieux.

Google propose une nouvelle interface graphique (on se calme, ca reste sobre!) simple et efficace, qui me  fait penser à Lego et particulièrement à la montre Lego . (www.asos.com, pour ceux qui veulent faire du shopping ou leur liste de noël)

Dans cette nouvelle version, Google propose également des modifications dans son système de recherche.

On passe désormais  à 2 colonnes, avec à gauche une liste de critères de recherche et à droite, les résultats.

Il est possible de filtrer les résultats de manière assez simple et surtout en limitant les clics.

With all the talk and media hype about the Wizened of Oz (Rupert Murdoch) deciding to put Google out of business and throw in his lot with the Borg of Bing (Microsoft), particularly as rumors abound that MS will pay the Dirty Digger dumpster loads of cash to block Google from indexing his news sites, you have to wonder how many pundits have actually thought this scenario through.

For a start, newspapers continue to demonstrate they have piss poor understanding of how Google works or of the many options they have for dealing with the 800 pound search gorilla. One of these is the “First Click Free” program, which allows them to have both a paywall and the traffic sent by Google.

As Google News exec Josh Cohen explains how it works: “If a publisher understands that quality, original content does best and therefore tries to create more, great. But there is still a lot of discussions taking place such as… ‘I have to make this content free or Google won’t index it,’ and that’s not the case. “First Click Free is only one example of the ways that publishers can make subscription content available. They can do previews, they can block it in different ways. I think there are a lot of those questions about the nuts and bolts of how you can work with us, subscriptions just being one of them.”

The funniest bit is that none of this addresses the “leaky back door” issue, whereby smart arsed users, like me, know all you have to do is copy the headline and paste it into Google Search and get the entire article placed behind the paywall for free.

Personally, I don’t think any of this *** will take place. It’s just a giant smokescreen from Murdoch, who has been known to do this kind of thing in the past. Threatening the search giant with the software giant to encourage some kind of financial deal, might just put a bigger smile on Wendy’s face when the Diggers will is finally read!

I’ve been thinking about loneliness lately, or more precisely, the word:  alone. It’s been on my mind because every day, across the world there are people sitting at their computers and typing A..L..O..N..E.. into google. I know this because it takes them here, to this blog. Sometimes the search term comes up as:

or

одиночество

and, I follow these exotic looking words to pages that translate them for me, and they all mean the same thing: loneliness or alone.

So many of us feel so alone.

So I’ve been thinking, when do I feel alone? When have I felt alone?

I felt alone when I first moved here, to a very northern part of my country, to the very northern part of the town, in the middle of winter, and I didn’t know anybody. I spent entire days walking the streets wondering where everyone else was going, wondering what everyone else was doing. One day I ordered a latte and when the cafe worker called out my name, to announce the readiness of the beverage, I almost cried because it was the first time I had heard my name said out loud in so long.

I feel alone now when I notice that I do not feel alone. I am in the middle of my tiny and bustling kitchen with children underfoot and I feel a part of something, which immediately, and infuriatingly, makes me think of what would happen to me if these family members suddenly were not in my life and how lonely I would be then.

I feel alone in the middle of the night when I am the only adult awake and I harumph and grumble so that Nathan might be woken too and I will not feel alone anymore.

I myself have written a post here on this blog that assures you, and me, that we are not alone, that we can meet here in this cyberspot and be together. But what if the truth is, we really are alone? What if we try and try to fuse ourselves together through sex, and marriage, and cults, and book clubs, and blogs, but it doesn’t work and we still go to bed each night feeling alone, not melded?

I have read that this is what this time on earth is designed for. To be separate. To feel what that is like. To learn something from that separation, from reaching across the divide, and then fold back into the Tao, the flow, the light, the heavens with greater experience and knowledge. Perhaps we come from a place that is infinite, and light, and embracing, and somehow we know this, we miss it, and we want to get back to it.

It is a mere consolation I know, but as I look at the blog stats and see so many of us searching the term “alone”, I realize that the one thing that we do not do alone is feel alone. We share that. You are not standing apart, cold, miserable and alone, while the rest of the world is full of happy, laughing folks, toasty warm and huddled together. This scene does not exist, this is only what you tell yourself. We are each alone in a happy crowd as much as on an isolated mountaintop. Aloneness is part and parcel of being human, and no one is without it in some form or another.

If it is a naturally occurring feeling, just like any other, then perhaps we can feel it just like any other. Simply feel it. See it, notice it, honor it, and that’s it. We don’t analyze ourselves when we are feeling happy. We do not give ourselves a hard time with that emotion, so why do so with loneliness? Perhaps experiencing it completely instead, is the only way back to that light and embracing place we know we came from. Or if not that profound, perhaps experiencing loneliness will allow us, at the very least, to move on to other feelings as soon as we are ready to feel those.

And, if we all feel alone, then I guess I will restate my earlier claim that, in this way, you are not really alone. You aren’t. And if you want a place where having that feeling is okay and without shame, then you have found it.

To get noticed on the Web it is really hard, but not impossible. There are many ways to achieve a high ranking on search engine return pages (SERPs). For example a Web page that uses popular subject  still attract few visitors.

But Imagine that you’ve created the definitive Web site on a subject cake as an example. The first thing that you must do is submit search engines like Google and Yahoo. The Web pages on your cake site  must include useful information (recipes) , delicious photographs and useful links directing visitors to other resources.

Even though you have the best information about cake on the Web, your site still may not break the top page of results on those major search engines. While people look and search for the term “cake” they may end up at somewhere else inferior web sites just because yours is not one of the top results.

There is no secret to reach hight spots on SERPs, but tricks. The trick is to find way to show search engines that your  site belongs at the top of the heap.  So you can ask me how? So search engine optimization (SEO) comes in.  In another words is it’s a bunch of techniques a webmaster or webdevelopers can use to improve it site’s SERP position.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques rely on how search engines work categorizing Web pages based on keywords, or  important terms that are related and revant to the content of the page.  As a sample, the term “Cake” should be a keyword, but a term like “baking” wouldn’t be relevant.

The SEO uses softwares called spiders or crawlers to search the Web and analyze individual pages. These programs read Web pages and index them according to the terms that show up often and in important sections of the page. There’s no way for a search engine spider to know your page is about Cake unless you use the right keywords in the right places.

Here are some general tips about keyword placement:

• Place keywords in the title of your Web page. You can choose something like “CakeASP” or “The Cake Baking” .
• Use keywords is in headers. If your page has several sections, consider using header tags and include important keywords in them, headers might include “Cake Equipaments” or “Baking Classes”.
• Use important keywords throughout the Web page, particularly at the top, but don’t overuse keywords. If you use a keyword too many times, some search engine spiders will flag your page as spam.
• Keywords aren’t the only important factor search engines take into account when generating SERPs. Just because a site uses keywords well doesn’t mean it’s one of the best resources on the Web. To determine the quality of a Web page search engines use link analysis. That means the search engine looks to see how many other Web pages link to the page in question.

If a search engine sees that hundreds of other Web pages related to cake are linking to your Web page, the engine will give your page a higher rank. Search engines like Google mesure the importance of links based on the rank of the linking pages. That means if the pages linking to your site are themselves ranked high in Google’s system, they boost your page’s rank more than the other lesser ranked pages.

So, how do you get sites to link to your page? That’s a tricky task, but make sure your page is a place people want to link to, and you’re almost there. One way is to offer link exchanges with other sites that have  material related to your content. But don’t trade links with just anyone because search engines want  to see how relevant. If  too many irrelevant links and the search engine will think you’re trying to cheat the system.

About keyword stuffing
This manipulates search engine results by overusing keywords on the page. Usually this happens bcause webmasters will put repeated keywords toward the bottom of the page where most visitors won’t see them. They can also use invisible text, text with a color matching the page’s background. Since search engine spiders read content through the page’s HTML code, they detect text even if people can’t see it. Some search engine spiders can identify and ignore text that matches the page’s background color.

But also webmasters may  include irrelevant keywords to trick search engines. The webmasters look to see which search terms are the most popular and then use those words on their Web pages. While search engines might index the page under more keywords, people who follow the SERP links often leave the site once they realize it has little or nothing to do with their search terms.

A webmaster might create Web pages that redirect visitors to another page.  So then with several pages done that each focus on a current hot topic, the webmaster can get a lot of traffic to a particular Web site.

­Page stuffing also cheats people out of a fair search engine experience. After create a Web page that appears high up on a SERP and had duplicated pages in the hope that both pages still make the top results. Search engine spiders are able to compare pages against each other and determine if two different pages have the same content.

Another techniques are Selling and farming links because search engines look at links to determine a Web page’s relevancy, some webmasters buy links from other sites to boost a page’s rank. A link farm is a collection of Web pages that all interlink with one another in order to increase each page’s rank. This may cause ban all the sites from its indexes.

Manipulate the system might cause in a temporary increase in visitors. But search engines penalize Web pages that use those techniques, which means short success for a long-term failure.

Finding a content balance between both the visitors to the Web page and search engine spiders is the biggest challenge in SEO approaches. The idea to first create an engaging experience for visitors, then tweak the page’s design so that search engines can find it is a better approache.

Media files are a potential problem with the way search engine spiders crawl through sites. People want pages that include photos, video or other forms of media to enhance the browsing experience. But this is not how most search engines works,they skip over image and video content when indexing a site. This causes a huge problem for sites that use a lot of media files.

It is fact that the major search engines are constantly upgrading spider programs to detect and ignore and even penalise sites that use cheatable approaches (stuffing). For those is recomended use keywords in important places like the title of the page and to get links from other pages that focus on relevant content.

SEO: search engine optimization หรือ การเพิ่มประสิทธิภาพเครื่องมือค้นหา
[1] เป็นการจัดทำ ปรับปรุง หรือปรับแต่งหน้าเว็บไซต์เพื่อให้ติดอันดับต้น ๆ ในหน้าผลการค้นหาของ Search Engine
[2] ในลักษณะธรรมชาติ (เรียกศัพท์เฉพาะว่า “ออร์แกนิก”) ซึ่งผ่านทางเป้าหมายของคำค้นหาที่ต้องการ ซึ่งเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของ การทำการตลาดผ่านระบบค้นหา หรือ Search Engine Marketing (SEM)

SEO เป็นการเลือกทางเลือกที่ดีที่สุดใน Search Engine คือ การปรับปรุงเว็บไซต์ด้วย เทคนิคต่าง ๆ เพื่อให้ติดอันดับต้น ๆ ของเว็บ Search Engine ด้วยคำสำคัญโดยเน้นให้ผลของคำค้นปรากฏอยู่ในส่วนของ Natural Search Result (Organic Search Result) หรือในส่วนของผลลัพธ์ทางด้านซ้ายมือของเว็บเสิร์ชเอนจิน เวลาที่คนเข้ามาค้นหาในเว็บเสิร์ชเอนจิน เช่นที่ กูเกิล ยาฮู หรือ เอ็มเอสเอ็น ด้วยคำสำคัญที่ต้องการค้นหาแล้ว จะปรากฏลิงก์ของเว็บไซต์ของ เราเพื่อทำให้ติดอันดับต้น ๆ ในหน้าผลการค้นหา ซึ่งการทำ SEO นั้นจะประกอบไปด้วย การปรับปรุง-เพิ่มคำสำคัญ (คีย์เวิร์ด) ในหน้าเว็บไซต์ การปรับแต่งหน้าเว็บไซต์ให้มีขนาดเล็ก การใช้ meta tag และวิธีอื่น ๆ ควบคู่กันไป

เพื่อ ให้ง่ายต่อความเข้าใจเกี่ยวกับ SEO นั้นก็เหมือนช่องทางหนึ่งในการทำการตลาด โดยการทำความเข้าใจว่าอัลกอริทึมของเสิร์ชเอนจินนั้นทำงานอย่างไร และ คำ ๆ ไหนที่ผู้เยี่ยมชมมีความต้องการที่จะค้นหา เพื่อช่วยเลือกเว็บเพจที่ตอบสนองความต้องการและความสนใจของผู้ทำการค้นหา

การส ร้างเว็บเพจโดยการใช้เทคนิค SEO นั้นก็ไม่ได้หมายถึงการสร้างเนื้อหาที่เป็นที่ชื่นชอบต่อเสิร์ชเอนจินเพียง อย่างเดียวโดยที่ไม่คำนึงถึงผู้เยี่ยมชม ซึ่งวิธีการทำ SEO นั้นอาจจะมีการเกี่ยวข้องกับการปรับปรุงโค๊ดของเว็บไซต์, การนำเสนอ, โครงสร้างของเว็บไซต์ และสิ่งที่สำคัญอย่างยิ่งของการทำ SEO ก็คือเนื้อหาที่มีประโยชน์ และจะต้องเป็นเนื้อหาต้นฉบับ

Search engine marketing, หรือ SEM, เป็นรูปแบบของการทำการตลาดบนอินเตอร์เน็ทในการประชาสัมพันธ์เว็บไซต์โดย เพิ่มการค้นเจอในหน้าผลลัพท์ของ Google (SERPs) โดยต้องเสียเงินให้กับทาง Google. ลักษณะของโฆษณานั้นจะเป็นข้อความประมาณ 50-60 ตัวอักษร อยู่ที่มุมด้านขวาของหน้าผลการค้นหาของแต่ละ keyword เราเรียกการทำการตลาดแบบนี้ได้อีกอย่างว่า “Pay Per Click (PPC)” คือ ลูกค้าจะต้องจ่ายค่าโฆษณาให้กับทาง google ต่อเมื่อมีการคลิกที่โฆษณานั้น ๆ

หวัง ว่าคราวนี้คนทำมาค้าขายออนไลน์ก็น่าจะได้ข้อมูลเล็ก ๆ น้อย ๆ ในการเป็นข้อมูล Support เวลาต้องตัดสินใจจ่ายเงินให้กับ Google ไม่มากก็น้อยแล้วนะ

Paid for content? Removal of News International from Google in a matter of months? One thing is for sure: the industry has a problem. Citizen journalism, online media, advances in technology and many, many other well trodden ‘challenges’ are hitting advertising revenues hard. I for one would be happy to pay for a (small) licence from which micro payments are made to content providers of all shapes and sizes. While I love the free nature of the internet, I recognise quality content needs to be paid for. However, if Murdoch thinks users will subscribe to each of his news sites then I think he is going to run into trouble. Even if he consolidated all his titles into a Sky Broadcasting type package, the idea of subscribing is not that appealing.

For pure news outlets at least, the power (but maybe not income) is moving away from the media and back to the journalist, and bloggers are beginning to ‘monetise’ their sites. All journalists need now is training and cost effective technology.

For tabloid titles such as The Sun, the power is migrating to the celebrities. Famous faces are now the ‘intellectual property’ or content and it is the celebrities the tabloids contain, the likes of Jordan and Peter, that are generating income from the tabloids.

Anyway, by charging for content, Murdoch isn’t doing anything new. Manchester Confidential beat him to it and is charging for content. Apparently the move is going well. Good luck to them! It might work for niche or regional communities, of which Manchester Confidential is one, but I don’t think the same process will work for news outlets. Manchester Confidential offers readers more than just editorial, with offers and personal insight keeping its members coming back for more. Apart from MySpace, Murdoch is a long way from creating a similar offer.

Most people search Google the same way. They type keywords into the search bar and click, Search Google. If they don’t find what they are looking for, they change some words around and search again. Sound familiar?

Let’s use ‘physician marketing’ as our search term as we learn how to enhance searching through Google.

1. Using double quotes around your keyword to search explicitly for a phrase is called Explicit Phrase. Example, “physician marketing”.
2. If you want to exclude a certain keyword that might come up in your search, such as keyword advertising, simply use the hyphen in front of the excluded word. Example, physician marketing-advertising
3. To look for a specific term on a website, use “site:somesite.com”  Example, “physician marketing” site:euthenia-marketing.com
4. To look for a specific document type, such as PowerPoint, use “filetype:”  Example, “physician marketing” filetype:pptx
5. If you want your search to include synonyms or similar words, use “~”   Example, “physician marketing” ~professional
6. This or That. If you are looking for one or more terms to search, use OR, which needs to be in capital letters. Example, physician marketing OR advertising
