Efter mitt förra inlägg om Wikipedia så råkade jag häromdagen på en ytterst intressant liten detalj gällande sajten: man deletar emellanåt inlägg om personer som är alltför störande inslag i den styrande elitens vardag. Ett sådant fall som jag stötte på är Fritz Springmeier, en amerikansk författare som har skrivit minst 13 böcker, alla nu omöjliga att få tag på annat än i andra hand samt till hutlösa priser på nätet (en gammal paperback kan kosta flera tusen kronor!).

Bara det lilla faktum att Springmeier skrivit 13 böcker borde garantera honom en egen liten Wikipediasida. Men nej, så är inte fallet. Det hela blir än mer skandalöst när man får veta att författaren faktiskt hade en egen liten Wikipediasida, som dock togs bort för 1½ år sedan! Ingen ny sida verkar nu finnas om honom. Det går inte ens att ta reda på hur gammal han är eller vilka böcker han skrivit utan surfa vidare på andra sajter.

Så varför har denne Fritz Springmeier försvunnit från Wikipedia? Svaret är så klart uppenbart. Han är helt enkelt alltför obekväm för våra ägares toppskikt. För smart för sitt eget bästa. Så vad betyder detta när det gäller Wikipedia? Är det någon som har ett bra svar? Är det någon som tycker om att denna typ av censur pågår på en sajt som är tänkt att vara öppen för oss alla och tillhöra oss alla?

Underligt nog så kan man alltjämt se flera fina filmer på You Tube och Google Video där Springmeier blir intervjuad samt håller en del längre föredrag (över 2 timmar långa). Vad jag kan förstå av den här mannen så är han en djupt religiös kristen man med ett skarpt intellekt, som dessutom verkar vara rätt så ödmjuk samt totalt orädd? Så varför censureras lite vardagliga fakta om denne man bort från det politiskt oberoende samt på donationer överlevande Wikipedia?

Vi kommer lite lättare fram till gåtans lösning när vi på Deletionpedia (en sajt som sparar alla deletade wikisidor) läser sidan om Springmeier som censurerades bort från Wikipedia. Den här mannen hade nämligen genom sina böcker avslöjat lite för mycket av våra ägares hemligheter. Springmeier sitter för närvarande, och sedan 2003, i fängelse för sin påstådda medverkan i ett väpnat bankrån! Man passade dessutom på, vad jag förstår, att sätta dit honom för narkotikainnehav (marijuana), något som ofta brukar betyda fängelse i USA. Springmeier kommer att släppas 2012.

One of the greatest documentaries I have ever seen.  I bet you will never look at fast food franchises the same way again. For some who want better understanding of the phenomena I suggest reading McDonaldization of society by George Ritzer. Real eye opener!

Man, I spent almost an hour watching this. I didn’t even get to the end of the episodes that have been released (more have been promised/threatened). But it was worth it.

If you aren’t familiar, here’s Wikipedia’s reliable description:

Trapped in the Closet is an urban opera, R&B opera, or hip-hopera released by contemporary R&B singer R. Kelly in 2005. The songs relate an ongoing narrative, which Kelly and Jive Records promoted by releasing each chapter to radio stations one at a time.

Weird Al and South Park did parodies of it (the latter on the infamous Scientology-baiting episode also named “Trapped in the Closet”).

"One: I'm gonna shoot you both. Two: I'm gonna cap some bitch!"

Characters and locations weave in and out of the episodes, each of which ends in a crazy cliff-hanger, the characters pulling guns and mouthing sung obscenities at each other for no reason, all at the mercy of R. Kelly’s dubious-at-best-rhymes.

A friggen’ midget (I would say “little person”, but then I’m politically correct) is introduced to the “narrative”, just because the word “rhymes” with twisted. Here’s the lyric in full:

Now pause the movie ’cause what I’m about to say to ya’ll is so damn twisted,
Not only is there a man in his cabinet, but the man is a MIDGET!

Anyway, if you have 40 minutes to kill on some stupid but entertaining crap (who doesn’t?), check out the first 12 chapters on Google Video. It’s better than paying for it.

Then check out the Weird Al parody, and the South Park episode, if you haven’t already.

Everyone can pretty much go out there and look at all the videos that are posted regarding the Google Wave, but since I have a previous post regarding it, I thought I would add some additional information on my blog that I have since learned.  Plus I will link to some of the videos that I have seen. 

The first video created by EpipheoStudios.com is a great little explanation of what the wave is.  The video is cute.  It also sounds like a plea to get an invitation.  (Which after watching the Google Wave Overview, I can’t really blame him for begging.)

The next video is from Google and it is almost 8 minutes, but if you watch it, it will have you going, “WHOOOOOAAAAA!”

Here I’ve typed up a summary in case you don’t want to watch the video, but I included a time stamp for each point in case you want to zap to it to see what it is about. 

E-mail is 40 years old.  Google is trying to “update it”.  An e-mail sent is somewhat like a letter.  If you send an e-mail to five people there are five copies of the “letter”.  But a wave is a “hosted conversation”.  There is only one copy and it is in one place.  So when people comment on it the comments are stored on one wave and there are not multiple copies floating about. (Time stamp 0:30 of the Google video)

One use could be:  You can open a wave to plan a party (Time stamp 0:58).  Adding your contacts to the wave allows people to see and comment.  You can add a gadget to use it as an invite to a party (Time stamp 1:47) and your invitees can RSVP in the wave.  While in the wave you can click on your address which will pop a google map right into your wave (Time stamp 2:19).

After your party, everyone can drag and drop their pictures into the wave (Time stamp 2:39). 

You can embed a wave into your blog (Time stamp 3:20)!  In an embedded wave comments can be on the blog or the wave (Time stamp 3:35).   (UI*)

There is a feature called “Playback” that allows you to see the wave in order of how it was created.  So you can see comments added in order even if they were added after a new blip (comment).  (Time stamp 4:35)

“Robots” can be added to a wave (Time stamp 5:06).  You can tweet and see the people you follow from a wave using a “Robot” (Time stamp 5:25).  The video says “Robots can be used to interface with other systems–anything with an API.”  (Time stamp 6:41)

There is translation in a wave using Rosy the robot.  You can type in English and your contact can receive it in his/her language.  (Time stamp 6:49)

Well, if you watched the video, I bet you can see some of the possibilites that the Google Wave has to offer.  As the video begins the 80 minute video is mentioned so I am sure that you can imagine there are a lot of other things that wave can do.  I will learn about them a little at a time.  I am excited about the possibilites.  

When I first heard about this I filed it away under “good for big companies”, but as I was watching the video I had some ideas on how I could use it to help grow my business and to help get the word out about Nia.  Using the internet to market a local business is very different than using it to market a business where product is shipped or can be downloaded.  So this would be a valuable tool . . . . . I can see that now.  I am ready to catch the wave!

Já faz um bom tempinho que o produto Google Video foi descontinuado oficialmente, embora sua página ainda esteja online na Internet. Por enquanto, a Google Video serve apenas para consulta de vídeos que foram armazenados anteriormente e, de vez em quando exibe alguns vídeos do YouTube em sua página inicial.

Mesmo não sendo mais possível fazer upload de novos vídeos, é uma boa continuar fazendo consultas por lá. Aliás, seria difícil manter dois grandes portais de vídeos ativos, né? Então, se você quiser armazenar e publicar seus vídeos, é melhor que visite o YouTube.

Google Video angewählt, Übersicht nageschaut, “Children of the Corn” gefunden… Und Alle so Yeaahhh. Ich weiß, Mem mißbraucht… who cares?

Ein großartige Documentation über Musik mit Inhalt und warum sie weder verschwunden, noch heutzutage leicht zu finden ist. Mit dabei sind unter Anderem die Roots, Erika Baduh, Eric Clapton, Dave Matthews und viele mehr. Genießt es.

Oh, the many wonders of Goggle:

With all the video sites out there, I tend to forget Google video exists, but they’ve got some great stuff.

Like John Carpenter’s They Live, a fantastic cult movie that seems as ingrained in today’s society as the 80s. The protagonist is a wandering, jobless American who just wants to do things right and work hard (yada yada yada), the economy’s bad and people are living in shantytowns in LA (there was an NY Times article about tent towns popping up across California this summer), there’s conspiracy, fear of the other, fear of the government, etc. You can twist it into whatever socio-political perspective you want to push, but as a sci-fi action film, it hits it right on the head. And any Shepard Fairey fan might be able to see what he found so fantastic about this film and what certain images, ahem, “crop up” in his art.

I know, kind of a random post, but this is one of those movies that really lives up to whatever standards of cult fandom are out there… and there are a ton.
