At the beginning of my blogging activity, wordpress was actually just give a 50 MB disk space to store all of my files. I was starting to make a post in this blog since almost two years ago, or the exact date is 7 July. It was a very interesting day for me, I was feeling something different in my spirit when I starting blogging compared with when I wasn’t yet. But yeah, like what I told you, to store all of my images, sounds, documents and also video even, wordpress just give me 50 MB space.

It was a little bit make me worry if there’s no enough room to store ‘em. So I decided to host my files at the others places. I looking for some alternative, and finally I choose googlepages which offer me a 100 MB free space for every account. I can make account as many as I want under one google account. So that it make make me create some different account to store some files with different places to use them too.

But since the end of the last month, google announce google page creator [googlepage] user that that service is no longer available for the next time. It will be changed into google site [site.google], user who stored their files on google page asked to backup their files. It was the trouble, I should backup all of them, even at one of my accounts I stored more than 30 files. I’ve tried to backup one which just having a couple files, and it was a little annoying, I should do that one by one each file.

Out of my prediction, I got helps when I use Internet Explorer to make me easier downloading them from some different accounts. And at the first right-click I found an option that looks great, download all using Flash Get. Yeah it rocks, obviously IE was not fully useless.

The next step is modifying all of my post which having images from my google page account. This was more annoying, I should check all of my archive from April 2007 until today. To make it faster, I changed my reading setting into 20 post each page, so that I can see my whole posts in a month using one page, because the most active month is just has 18 post. This feels like restarting blogging  from the first time.

It’s all almost done I guess, just leave my post about Photoshop Time line which can’t show the images because it was stored at another web [webdesign.org], and they prevent this blog for showing ‘em. But it’s OK, I found the replacement images, edit them and editing that post is the thing I just really need to do now. Some others also having the same trouble, but nothing I can do to find images I need. And that post was a useful post ever here.

Just because I’m super bored at home. I decided to dump my googlepages site because its becoming a real pain is the butt to update and maintain. IT has served me well but eversince Mr Google have also dumped their googlepages project and create a new “website” creator called “Google Sites”, I have hardly any time to update my blogs, let alone all the other stuff I have in there.

Also, the place where I used to store my Images, www.majhost.com is becoming increasingly messy coz I tend to dump everything there w/o any folders and directories.

So.. here I am.. In wordpress. No more ads from me, no more funny stuff. Just a blog.

11 Google Apps Improvements for the Classroom | ICT in my Classroom.

In a way, Google is in a unique position in terms of creating the optimal set of classroom tools. And Google teams have an interest in educational projects (as made clear by Google for Educators, Google Summer of Code, Google Apps for schools…).
What seems to be missing is integration. Maybe Google is taking its time before integrating all of its services and apps. After all, the integration of Google Notebook and Google Bookmarks was fairly recent (and we can easily imagine a further integration with Google Reader). But some of us are a bit impatient. Or too enthusiastic about tools.

Because I just skimmed through the Google Chrome comicbook, I get to think that, maybe, Google is getting ready to integrate its tools in a neat way. Not specifically meant for schools but, in the end, an integrated Google platform can be developed into an education-specific set of applications.
After all, apart from Google Scholar, we’re talking about pretty much the same tools as those used outside of educational contexts.

What tools am I personally thinking about? Almost everything Google does or has done could be useful in educational contexts. From Google Apps (which includes Google Docs, Gmail, Google Sites, GTalk, Gcal…) to Google Books and Google Scholar or even Google Earth, Google Translate, and Google Maps. Not to mention OpenSocial, YouTube, Android, Blogger, Sketchup, Lively…

Not that Google’s versions of all of these tools and services are inherently more appropriate for education than those developed outside of Google. But it’s clear that Google has an edge in terms of its technology portfolio. Can’t we just imagine a new kind of Learning Management System leveraging all the neat Google technologies and using a social networking model?

Educational contexts do have some specific requirements. Despite Google’s love affair with “openness,” schools typically require protection for different types of data. Some would also say that Google’s usual advertisement-supported model may be inappropriate for learning environments. So it might be a sign that Google does understand school-focused requirements that Google Apps are ad-free for students, faculty, and staff.

Ok, I’m thinking out loud. But isn’t this what wishlists are about?

Verso i primi di agosto, accedo a Googlepages per aggiornare il sito. Al momento del login un messaggio mi segnala che non saranno più rilasciati nuovi siti su Googlepages e che, chi ne ha già uno, potrà conservarlo e trasferirlo automaticamente su Googlesites, un servizio nuovo, che permette di sviluppare pagine personali. Poiché non mi pare conveniente continuare ad aggiornare pagine su un servizio “in chiusura” trasferisco già tutto su Googlesites
Svantaggi Googlesites
Il traferimento da Googlepages a Googlesites non è così “automatico”, ma comporta un lavoro di copia-e-incolla molto manuale. Su Googlepages, una volta scelto il layout, la parte iniziale del sito (la testata o header) è liberamente editabile, mentre in Googlesites è consentita solo una breve stringa di testo (l’esempio è un laconico “Sky Club”) e una icona-logo. In generale, a mio parere, Googlepages produce siti più “eleganti” e compatti. Inoltre i layout di Googlesites non permettono di editare un proprio footer, cioè la parte finale del sito, che contiene di solito informazioni sul copyright e “credits”
Vantaggi Googlesites
Googlepages non gestiva le voci di menu. Se cioè io costruivo un sito a più pagine, la parte con le voci di menu (in un layout semplice a due colonne di solito la colonna a sinistra) doveva essere manualmente ricopiata in ogni nuova pagina. Un lavoraccio. Invece Googlesites è concepito in modo molto più modulare: il menu è un file che può essere modificato in ogni momento, aggiungendo, togliendo e ordinando le varie voci che lo compongono, ed i relativi collegamenti alle pagine.

Il passaggio da Googlepages a Googlesites non è indolore per chi ha già un sito in Googlepages. La chiusura del servizio a favore di uno più “nuovo” avviene in breve tempo: Googlepages nasce solo pochi mesi fa.  Mi pare che nel beta perpetuo del web2.0 non dobbiamo mai abituarci/affezionarci troppo ad un servizio, diventarne “provetti utilizzatori” ma semmai essere pronti al balzo felino verso la successiva release.
