From the look of things, he is none too pleased that his shrink and erstwhile girlfriend Dr. Harleen Quinzel has been palling around with that guy Hush. (You always knew he’d kill her.) So last week, finally having some free time, I hit up Bonanza Books and Comics looking for this and they said they had sold whatever copies they had to begin with, but assured me they’d get some more. Assim como Gotham City está para o Batman e Metrópolis para o Super Homem, Millennium City (antiga Detroit) está para você! O cenário planejado para o seu super herói acabar com o crime, é uma das cidades mais avançadas em tecnologia e fora reconstruída após a  Batalha de Detroit, comandada pelo Dr. Destroyer.

Os combates do game acontecem nas áreas de missões e batalhas e o jogador pode adquirir super poderes e bases secretas bem como ter favores concedidos pelo o herói chamado de Psionic, uma espécie de padrinho, e ao invés de uma gangue, o jogador monta um super time!

Lançado em novembro,  Champions Online Facebook é uma parceria da LOLapps com a Atarti’s Cryptic Studios que disponibilizou o título para PC, em setembro.

«Allo, c’est ta mère, yé 7 heures et quart, tu dors sûrement, mais SORS TA CAMÉRA, ÇA BRÛLE à côté de chez vous.»

Je prends le message à 9 heures, en allant travailler. Raté pour le spectaculaire.

Il me restera, je me suis dit, à photographier les cendres pour témoigner de l’événement.

Les faits: quelque 30 logements en construction détruits pendant la nuit de jeudi à vendredi, plusieurs détonations entendues par les témoins… et pas de cause identifiée pour l’instant.

Je pense à Gotham city, à la merci de criminels qui se font une guerre sale au coeur de la nuit.

Et je me trouve juste un petit peu brave d’aller voir ce qui reste de leur chicane de plus près.

Arrivée par des Carrières, j’entre sur le site sans trop de problèmes. Une petite banderole rouge barre à peine le chemin. Je longe une clôture qui borde les ruines – c’est pas comme ça que j’aurai ma shot, je me dis – mais qui se termine heureusement en laissant une bonne partie du site de l’incendie à découvert.

Génial, dramatique à souhait. Mais plus petit que je l’aurais imaginé, j’avoue. J’ai le droit de dire ça, y a pas eu de blessé.

À ma gauche, il me semble bien entendre simultanément des pneus freiner sec sur la gravelle et une porte s’ouvrir. Un homme s’approche de moi. J’ai peur, soudainement. J’attends la balle sournoise qui sifflera en mode silencieux pour se plonger quelque part dans mon corps, là où ça fait mal.

- QU’EST-CE QUE TU FAIS? qu’il me crie en s’approchant. Et il a un petit accent qui fait 1+1 égal tu deux? dans ma tête de celle qui a regardé Enquête il y a deux semaines.

- Euh, bein je, j’habite tout près, je je… je voulais voir ça, je… j’ai… c’pas correct?

- Bein non, c’est un terrain de construction ici!

Je retiens le mauvais jeu de mot « vous voulez dire de déconstruction!» qui dans la nervosité, a bien failli sortir et ne pas aider ma cause.

- Ah je comprends, je vais m’en aller. Mais je peux faire quand même quelques photos pour moi?

- Oui oui.

C’est déjà ça. Justement, j’avais pas de vue d’ensemble.

J’ai quand même appelé ma mère en arrivant pour lui demander si c’était sage de ma part de mettre ces photos sur mon blog, ou si la notion de preuve compromettante n’était pas à envisager. Et ma gang de chanceux, j’ai eu son approbation.

Après ma petite scène hollywoodienne, bien assise dans ma cuisine, j’ai soupiré de soulagement. Soupiré aussi, un peu, parce que de ma fenêtre, je verrai sans doute longtemps la grue qui construira et reconstruira encore s’il le faut les logements de mes futurs voisins.

Ik heb afgelopen maandag de film Batman Begins (2005) op tv gezien. In deze film worden de hoofdrollen gespeeld door Christian Bale als Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine als Alfred, Morgan Freeman als Lucius Fox, Gary Oldman als Jim Gordon, Rutger Hauer als Earle, Cillian Murphy als Dr. Jonathan Crane, Liam Neeson als Henri Ducard, Ken Watanabe als Ra’s Al Ghul, Colin McFarlane als Loeb en Katie Holmes als Rachel Dawes.

De kleine jongen Bruce Wayne zag zijn ouders voor zijn ogen wreed vermoord worden: een trauma dat hem voor de rest van zijn leven vervult met wraakgevoelens. Het lot laat hem zijn wraak echter niet uitvoeren. Hij vlucht naar het Oosten, waar hij opgevangen wordt door de ninja-leider Ra’s Al-Ghul, en als hij terugkeert naar zijn thuisstad Gotham City vindt hij die in de handen van maffiabendes en andere gangsters. Hij besluit een nieuw persoon te worden, één die de harten van misdadigers met vrees vervult: Batman! Met de hulp van politieman Jim Gordon zet Batman zijn eerste stappen in zijn strijd tegen het onrecht. Zijn strijd begint tegen de maffiabaas Don Falcone, de gekke dokter Jonathan ’Scarecrow’ Crane en een mysterieuze derde persoon …

Ik vind dit een hele goede Batman-film. Juist het fet dat de beslissing die Bruce Wayne neemt om als Batman de misdaad te bestrijden halverwege de film genomen wordt vind ik moedig en is verder heel goed uitgewerkt.

Wat ik ook heel goed vind is dat je ziet dat Bruce Wayne altijd last heeft gehad van het feit dat zijn ouders voor zijn ogen vermoord zijn. Ook wel leuk om te zien dat Bruce Wayne bij een groep Ninja’s terecht gekomen is om zichzelf te stalen en veel te leren.

Verder blijft Gotham City gewoon erg gaaf om in beeld te brengen en dat is ook in deze film heel goed gelukt. De nieuwe batmobiel is natuurlijk supergaaf!!

Al met al een film die gewoon zeer goed en onderhoudend is.

Ho visto la Batmobile. Si, quella vera, si a grandezza naturale, e no, non sto delirando. Mentre tornavo a casa dall’ufficio sono stata attratta da una folla di fotografi e flash all’altezza della Quinta e 29th Street. Paparazzi, auto di lusso, folla urlante…possono voler dire una cosa sola: VIPs nei paraggi! Sebbene non sia una cacciavip, il mio spirito da reporter (?!) mi ha costretto ad avvicinarmi – ed e’ li’ che l’ho vista. La Batmobile. In realta’ non conoscevo nessuno dei VIPs che si facevano fotografare davanti – ho solo realizzato vedendo un cartello che si trattava di un’asta in favore dell’associazione Life Project for Africa (e solo andando sul sito successivamente che la bellissima ragazza che si faceva fotografare era Miss Tanzania). Ma cio’ che ha piu’ attirato la mia attenzione era lei, la Batmobile, soprattutto quando, con una sgasata, sono uscite fiamme dagli scarichi! Quindi l’associazione mentale New York – Gotham City e’ fondata, e magari la’ fuori c’e’ davvero il Bruce Wayne della situazione a vegliare sulla citta’!
Comunque, ritornando alla realta’, di fianco alla Batmobile c’era anche un uomo che portava al braccio un’aquila. Si, si, un’aquila vera! Avendo visto dal vivo solo qualche ammaestratore di falchetti durante la ricostruzione storica della vita della regina Teodolinda a Monza, capite che trovarmi a meno di un metro da un animale cosi’ maestoso e inusuale e’ stata un’emozione fortissima!
Incontri fuori dall’inimmaginabile? No, solo una serata come le altre a New York.

Like I said in my previous post, being sick and staying home from work can get pretty boring. It also allows for an enormous amount of television watching. While watching the tube today, I have come across the following memorable quotes which I feel the need to share with you. I know you will like them. You can thank me later…

” You don’t have hangovers when you’re drinking. You have them when you’re sober.”  – a stand-up comedian on Comedy Central’s “Live in Gotham City”

Ok, well that’s all I got. Figures. It is daytime television, after all. Entertaining, yes, but only for a few minutes at a time. What more did you expect?

Franny Armstrong voted Ken Livingston, but when a crowd of hoodies attacked her on her walk home from Camden, it wasn’t Ken who appeared as a ‘mayor on shining bicycle. It was Boris. Or should we say Batman?

pack. What every decent superhero needs. Franny, 37, is a climate change activist – and we can only hope she appreciated being rescued by someone on two wheels.

But getting back to the daring rescue: Franny was on her way home when the hoodies cornered her in an alley way, shoving her against a car. They were about to hit her with a metal bar when she called out for help to a passing cyclist.

Boris heard the cries and ran after the hoodies wielding the forgotten bar and shouting “OIKS!” after them. Franny, only slightly bruised, has lived to tell the tale (because Boris, like Batman, failed to mention it).

Gotham City

After a day of gruelling news – soldiers shot in Afghanistan, violent clashes in Tehran, political reputations crashing around us – this inspiring tale of bicycle chivalry is a breath of fresh London air. Unfortunately, there is a chilling undercurrent to this tale…as we all should know, with every Batman comes a Gotham City.

The hoodies who attacked Ms Armstrong were girls, all aged around 12. Disturbing to say the very least.

Have we not heard very recently about teenage girls getting involved in violent gangs? Police are discovering an increasing number of young women joining male groups, getting gang raped, and carrying weapons or drugs to up their status. Some are forming their own all-girl gangs – and these are no better.

Recently, a 17 year old gang leader was jailed for four and a half years, and another 16 year old for three, after their gang attacked a 16 year old girl at knife point, dragged her to an alley and beat her with a metal buckle. One girl in the gang even said she wished they had got a guy to rape her, according to the Times. The group has been sentenced by Snaresbrook Crown Court.

A meeting has been planned between the Metropolitan Police, the Home Office and the Greater London Authority to address the problem. Boris chairs the Metropolitan Police and leads the GLA. Franny couldn’t have chosen a better hero. He biked into the fray without fear. Let us hope he does the same now.

There are few things that I love more than satire — the more biting, the better. And few things are more capable of being mocked than network television. Network execs are playing to particular tastes, and the expectations of the audiences are narrow.

Therefore, satirical skewerings of television, when done well, make me giggle like a little girl in a tickle fight. A few years ago, satirical newspaper/website The Onion had a feature of made-up television shows on established TV networks, with titles that could easily pass for respective television shows on said network. Because I miss them so much, I’ll occasionally make one of my own:

These sorts of things amuse me, and I want to share them with y’all. Also, I’m easily amused.

You know what they say, you’ve got free will. How the hell are you supposed to let that free will out when there are rules? I’m telling you, the only way to really bring out that freedom is to show that there are no rules.

This could be me in a hundred years. Trust me, it doesn’t matter what people think anymore…. because what people think is what got people like me where we are now. HAHAHAHAHAHA

You know, I wasn’t labelled intelligent for nothing. There’s a reason why people like me end up where we are. See, me, I’m on the winning end of the battle. But I’m playing a double-agent role. You see, people like me know what we’re doing all the time. If I wanted to leave Arkham Asylum, then I would have left by now. But of course, that doesn’t matter, does it? No one gives a damn.
There’s such thing as a system hack. Easy to do, especially when the power’s out. You’ve got your mob people, mafia gunmen, and anyone who’s willing to kill to get you where you need to be. That’s why I’ve got my little… team. If you’re part of that team, then you’re on the winning side.
Being safe? That’s not fun, now, is it? The  joke’s on you. Get in the game now, or you’ll die. Leave, and you’re gonna have a tough break.

Rain all day in London. Dark, slate grey skies. A tedious journey in due to problems on the track.

A longish day at work.

And then it’s home time. Traipsing through large puddles. Cold, driving rain. Harder than this morning. It’s not long until I’m soaked.

People huddling under umbrellas, scurrying heads-down along London’s winding streets. Disappearing into the tube. Damp floors. Dripping umbrellas.

London. In the darker months, when it rains, when it’s dark, I’m reminded of Gotham City.

Jason Todd is back – or is he?  The Red Hood administers a lethal dose of retribution to Gotham’s underbelly, but they aren’t about to take it lying down; not when the Flamingo flies into town.  The new Dynamic Duo have their work cut out for them.  Philip Tan’s no Frank Quitely, but he’s bringing his A-game to this story arc.
Verdict: Buy it.

Batman Unseen #1
Written by Doug Moench ǀ Art by Kelley Jones
I picked this up to read a Bruce Wayne Batman story from the creative minds that brought us Red Rain.  What I got instead was a terrible Seventies throwback.  If you ever wondered what The Invisible Man would be like if Batman was in it, wonder no longer.  Seriously, it’s not worth it.
Verdict: Avoid.

Superman: World of New Krypton #8
Written by James Robinson & Greg Rucka ǀ Art by Pete Woods & Ron Randall
Superman proves his mettle as an inspiration for all peoples.  Kal-El diffuses a Thanagarian attack through rather unorthodox means.
Verdict: Check it out.

Ich habe im jüngsten Urlaub die Lego Video Games „Star Wars“, „Indiana Jones“ und „Batman“ durchgespielt und es hat einfach Spaß gemacht. Dabei kam die PSP, Nintendo DS und die PS3 zum Einsatz an der Spielefront.

Obwohl das Spielprinzip in allen drei Spielen das Gleiche ist, wurden die Games nie langweilig. Dabei muss ich gestehen, ich bin sowohl ein Fan der bunten Steine aus Dänemark, als auch ein Fan der genannten Filme. Ich bin mit Lego aufgewachsen und hab ganze Welten aus Plastiksteinen gebaut. Ebenso war es mit den Filmen, wobei die natürlich auch die Comics von Batman aus dem Ehapa-Verlag als Kind verschlang. Die Comics von Frank Miller entdeckte ich erst viel, viel später.

Dennoch gibt es Abstufungen bei den Lego-Games: Star Wars“ und „Indiana Jones“ orientieren sich an den Drehbüchern der Filme, wobei der Dreiteiler „Eine neue Hoffnung“, „Das Imperium schlägt zurück“ und die „Rückkehr der Jedi-Ritter“ für mich am besten umgesetzt wurde. Wahrscheinlich liegt es daran, dass die Geschichten um Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader und Han Solo mir in Fleisch und Blut übergangenen sind. Die neuen Verfilmungen, die ja zeitlich und inhaltlich vor diesen drei Teilen liegen, haben mich emotional nicht so berührt. Bei „Indiana Jones“ ist es ebenso, wobei die Lego-Version die ersten drei Teile umfasst.

Etwas enttäuschend ist die Lego-Version von Batman. Dabei liegt es nicht an dem dunklen Rächer über Gotham City, sondern vielmehr an der Geschichte des Spiels. Hier haben sich die Macher nicht an die Originaldrehbücher gehalten, sondern haben eigene Geschichten mit den Schurken wie Joker oder Two Face entwickelt. Hier merkt man dann aber auch die Schwäche von Videogames: Die Story ist zu dünn. Es reicht eben nicht, nur ein paar bekannte Helden zu nehmen und sie in ein Spiel zu packen.

There is a tiny line that separates this “humanization” from the resigned coming to terms with lie as a social principle: what matters in such a “humanized” universe is authentic intimate experience, not truth. At the end of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, a film which also “humanizes” its superhero, presenting him as full of doubts and weaknesses, the new DA Harvey Dent, an obsessive vigilante against the mob rule who got corrupted and himself committed murders, is dead, Batman and his police friend Gordon realize the loss of morale the city would suffer if Dent’s murders became known. Batman persuades Gordon to preserve Dent’s image by holding Batman responsible for the murders; Gordon destroys the Bat-Signal and a manhunt for Batman ensues. This necessity of a lie to sustain public morale is the film’s finale message: only a lie can redeem us . . .
