Diese Wochenende war endlich wieder Olgas Rock!! Wie jedes Jahr sammelte man sich vor dem Eingang um gemeinsam die Flaschen, die man nicht mit auf das Gelände nehmen darf, zu leeren. Auf dem Gelände an sich war auch kaum was los, es war als betrete man eine andere Welt sobald man die Kontrollen durchschritten hatte: Dumme Kommentare, gaffende Blicke, spießige Outfits und einfach pure Langeweile. Deshalb war ich auch nur eine halbe Stunde drin und bin danach wieder zurück zur Truppe vorm Eingang gegammelt. Viel Besser!! Alles Quietschbunt, gute Laune und verdammt viele alte Bekannte, die man Jahre nicht gesehen hat. Bei Bier und Sonnenschein hatten wir endlose Geschichten zu berichten und ich fühlte mich doch glatt wieder zurückversetzt in die Zeit vor 5 Jahren, wo man sich jeden Tag am Druckluft in Oberhausen traf und jede Menge erlebt hat. Kaum zu glauben, dass das schon so lange her ist…

Das einzig Schlechte am Olgas Rock war, dass man so drastisch weggescheucht wurde am Abend. Man war komplett umzingelt von Polizisten, die die Menge aufforderte nach Hause zu gehen und man fühlte sich wie ein Krimineller behandelt, so grob waren sie. Und wie die Mentalität der heutigen Generation nun einmal ist, sind auch alles ganz brav gegangen, niemand hat randaliert oder etwas auszusetzen gehabt, keiner macht den Mund auf. Einfach nur unglaublich!! Vor Allem, weil man ja dort den ganzen Tag in Seelenruhe saß und einfach nichts schlimmes passiert ist, keine großen Auseinandersetzungen oder Ähnliches. Ich kann nur den Kopf schütteln und hoffen, dass die Menschen endlich mal die Augen öffnen, aber den Wunsch habe ich wohl seit ich denken kann… Vielleicht ist mein Problem auch, dass ich denke und eine persönliche Meinung vertrete. Ich zwinge niemandem meinen Willen auf, aber genau das wird mir Tag für Tag deutlicher, wie vielen Menschen die Meinung implantiert wird… Darüber könte ich jetzt ewig schreiben, aber es ist nicht das Thema. Das Thema ist Olags Rock und es war wie immer großartig, solange man nicht aufs Gelände geht.

Pro: Nicht so schrecklich vollgestopft mit Grafiken und Javascript wie einige andere Seiten. Umfangreiches Profil, halbwegs vernünftige Suche.

Con: Moderatoren und Admins sind schnell beim Löschen (man kann sich über User direkt ‘beschweren’, wobei der über den sich beschwert wurde meist weder angehört noch verwarnt wird); die Seite ist recht elitär (nur wer ihrem Idealbild entspricht wird reingelassen, das Probleme bei ‘Grauzonen’ gibt).

Altersgruppe: eher erwachsen (trotzdem benehmen sich viele kindisch), 20-30

Pro: wesentlich umgänglicher und entspannter als andere Seiten. die User sagen zwar manchmal Dinge wie ‘Profilspanner’, wenn man auf einer Seite war ohne etwas zu schreiben, beleidigen einen aber wenigstens nicht gleich.

Con: schreckliches Design (Farben, Javascript, Möglichkeiten Bilder, Videos und Musik zu verlinken und automatisch starten zu lassen), Suche eher nutzlos, Altersgruppe

Con: Die Metaller benehmen sich, wie es von Metallern erwartet wird: Beleidigungen, wenn manmehr als zweimal auf einer Seite war ohne was zu schreiben, dabei merken sie nicht, dass man a) Leute auch ignorieren und b) die Besucheranzeige abschalten kann. Keine richtige Möglichkeit sich zu beschweren.

Vandaag was het exact 50 jaar geleden dat Barbie werd geïntroduceerd. Ze is dus ietsje ouder dan ik. Wat zou Barbie in al die jaren hebben bijgedragen aan het zelfbeeld van vrouwen? En welke generatie rekent af met dat merkwaardig ideaal?

^{The Bodyshop wist het goed te verwoorden: ‘there are 3 billion women who don’t look like supermodels and only 8 who do.’ Bij deze headline zien we de afbeelding van een mollige Barbiepop met gelukkige glimlach. Daarmee ligt onmiddellijk de vraag op tafel, waarom er ‘one billion’ Barbie-poppen zijn verkocht sinds 1959? En waarom steeds die lachwekkende beenlengte, de onwerkelijke wespentaille en dat extreme haar? Omdat het verkoopt, zou bedenkster Ruth Handler zeggen. En inderdaad, ze heeft de pop bedacht omdat haar eigen dochtertje liever met een volwassen pop-vrouwtje speelde dan met babypopjes. En zoals het de Amerikaanse droom betaamt, moest Barbie uiteraard een personificatie van succes worden. In Amerika kom je dan uit bij het type dat zich thuis voelt op de catwalk. Zodat je er bovendien nog heel wat kleertjes aan spenderen kunt. En het manbeeld uit de ontwerpstudio’s van Mattel is al even verontrustend. Barbie’s counterpart Ken is ontworpen met bovengemiddeld musculair gewelfd lichaam, riante six pack en de coupe van David Soul (Starsky & Hutch). Uiteraard kwam ook de pop Ken alleen bij meisjes terecht en heeft Ken daarmee vast invloed gehad op de ontwikkeling van hun ideale manbeeld. Misschien heeft mevrouw Handler – totaal onvoorzien – wel het tegendeel bereikt van wat ze aanvankelijk bedoeld had: kleine meisjes blij maken met een modepopje. Eén miljard kleine meisjes (hoe blij ook met hun nieuwe pop) hebben behoorlijk wat teleurstelling moeten verwerken. Was het niet over het totale gebrek aan echte jongens die op Ken lijken, dan wel over hun eigen fysieke ontwikkeling. En dan biedt alleen de Bodyshop nog troost. Overigens, wie het een beetje in de gaten houdt, ziet dat de stijve Barbie moeilijke tijden tegemoet gaat. Want in de schappen van de Fashion Doll Markt overheerst nu Bratz. In de karakters uit de gelijknamige animatiefilm gaat al iets meer eigentijdse personality schuil. Bratz-poppen komen regelrecht uit de clipcultuur, ze houden zich in de animatiefilms bezig met dans, mode en muziek. Ik denk dat in deze ontwikkeling voor ontwerpers en entrepreneurs een kans ligt. Door fashionpoppen te ontwerpen die méér context hebben, méér karakter… en méér variatie in uiterlijke kenmerken. Gothics, Emo’s, Breezers, Nerds, Urbans, Skaters, Alto’s, Kakkers, Straight Edges, Punkers.. en een creatieve designer verzint er zo nog twaalf bij. Spaar ze allemaal en verrijk opgroeiende jeugd met een pluriform beeld van het fysieke ideaal.}

whoa, I just realized its been awhile since ive posted. I’ve been a little tired of late. My acupuncturist gave me something for it (astragalus?) but the thought of adding one more supplement to my already overzealous regime kind of shakes my marbles around. I can’t afford to lose any more of those marbles, you see. Truthfully, I just woke up. It’s 11am.

I get the results of my blood tests tomorrow. I’m kind of nervous about the results, as usual. I watched an episode of Oprah yesterday with “crazy sexy” Kris Carr (she totally rocks!) and some other “last lecture” cancer dude. Even though Kris was awesome, the show was kind of a downer. Look, I know cancer is not exactly a “fun” topic of conversation but Oprah is bad around cancer patients (and children for that matter.) She looked kind of freaked out, like she had seen a zombie. And she asked really ridiculous questions about death, like “Do you think about dying all the time?” NO people. That would be fucking insane. You get back to your life, your mood sort of levels out as with any major crisis. And I know there are some of you who STILL don’t believe in what I am doing and think I am just in denial about my death. I know that you love me anyway and thank you very much for not sharing your judgements with me. But you should know that I’ve overheard a couple of things and the look on your face speaks volumes. Well, crazy hippie remedy or not, I’m getting better and, thankfully, I think that most people are kind enough to know in their heart of hearts that that is the important thing. If you speculate that I may be in denial about my own death I have news pour toi – WE ARE ALL IN DENIAL ABOUT DEATH. If we weren’t we would be living out Oprah’s batshit-crazy hypothetical scenario. We’d be constantly thinking about death, because it’s going to happen to each and every one of us and (here’s the fun part…) We dont get to chose when! adolescent gothic kids aside, nobody is cut out for dwelling constantly on death! I know you all care about me and love me, right back atcha! Just please keep an open mind. There are greedy reasons that there is no cure for cancer as of yet. Just as there are greedy reasons that we are not all driving around in non-polluting cars. It’s not a conspiracy theory. It’s just capitalism at work. If you think that big pharma cares more about people than money, guess again. That’s just not the way it works. Ok. That’s my rant. I don’t like to do that but I think I really needed to get it off my CHEST. I will keep you ABREAST of my blood work situation. And I’ll save the rant about the lady who told me that I should just go ahead and give up because “heaven is a nice place too” for another day.

Fear. Hate. Death. Pain. Aspects of humanity that most demonize, immoralize, and try to avoid.

You explore this darkness as a Gothic. Do it to grow as a person. It’s all part of being human. You’re not whole without them.

Ex: Death is inevitable. Even if you’re immortal some part of us always dies. So learn how to embrace it.

Learn and discover, cherish and explore how other people say farewell to loved ones, and in turn, learn about yourself. There can be love, fun, and even a little sense of humor and dignity to death. Irene Eggin Waters, rest and bless her, made people smile. Someone remembered, and her headstone still makes people feel warm and fuzzy. -I never knew them, but they weren’t Goth-.

Discover positive/healthy ways to release what’s already a part of your life that you avoid. Even if it means dark movies, dark music, darkness itself; so long as the fabric of that darkness is made of your better nature.

Do this with all the other stuff. Anger. Fear. Pain. Even that which is bitter may have the sweet. And when you know what its like to be each, you take away their power.

Somewhere along the line though, this message got twisted and perverted. You see New School Emo. Depressive Goths. Destructive Goths. Lackadaisical Goths. Industrial Nihilism. This isn’t the culture.

Yes, there is an absolute freedom to living Gothic. Now an entire universe of sunset, night, and twilight joins the dawn of your day. You can be any kind of darkness; anarchy, nihilistic, etc. But only in satirical sincerity; because above all else, Gothics embody self-respect and compassion with a fierce sense of justice. But we also know that actual violence is something that only gets more trouble.

Goths are about having a heart of gold and souls as dark as they are good without ever having a drop of evil.
We steal the night in which evil hides, so evil has no place to go.

It takes a soul of steel to take the Devil’s home away.
Evil is senseless. It is perversion. It is apathy. It’s self-destruction. We give it no quarter.

We’re not fluffy and safe. Just deeply good, responsible. Even playful.

It’s fun to dress up, to have our own look as dark as we are. The fact that people confuse darkness with evil shows how far we have to teach, to go. But if people would just ask, and actually listen, we’d speak.

It’s fun to dress the way we do. We love the bands we listen to, the glitter of silver, the reminiscence of night in black. the cream of the moon, the lover’s rose red. We dress for ourselves, and we dress for others. We inspire a little spooking, the little thrill of fear we encourage and enjoy.

We’re usually ambitious, intelligent, compassionate people. We’re frequently artistic and talented, and always driven to do better, to grow.

We were the children in the 60s, 70s, and 80s in small towns who loved scary movies and delighted in thunderstorms while everyone else called it weird. Who enjoys fear?

We’re the kids who looked into the woods at night and dared to call out the ghosts and witches because, just maybe, ” they just want milk and cookies?”

As kids someone told us mommy was sleeping, so we hugged her tombstone goodbye, and played there sometimes.

We like a little pain and hot sauce; like athletes, it’s a sign we’re alive.

Living unbridled from hatred or fear is strange to people. Even if it dresses in something as familiar as Halloween, masks, fun and play.

That’s all we ever are, people well-adjusted to loving a whole person, and not just the bright parts. Everyone has a little child inside, just waiting in the dark.

We’re the aborigines in the jungles of emotion and darkness. Some of us are wiser, some of us the tribal idiot. But child, don’t fear, even we have cell phones. While we sooth your wounds with jungle herbs and treat you to dark chocolate, we’ll call and help your way, and if you ask, we’ll show you what’s good here, and how to deal with the bad.

This is who we are, and what separates us. It’s an irony that in joining together all parts of being human, those who don’t, tear us away.

So keep the faith.

Wie ich darauf komme? Ich wollte Cube 2: Sauerbraten zocken, aber das läuft wegen eines seltsamen Fehlers nicht bei mir (und anderen Windows Vista-Usern), also ging ich dazu über, das SCMRPG zu spielen.
