Because we are focusing on solution sales, we aren’t addressing the most confusing, necessary job of the buyer: recognizing and managing the behind-the-scenes, internal issues that must be managed privately before they can buy. Interestingly, even they don’t know all of these elements at the beginning of their search for excellence.

As much as we attempt to understand our buyers, it’s virtually impossible for us to be aware of all of the off-line issues – the relationships, the vendor issues, the partner problems, the historic issues that have been problematic – that buyers must address before getting internal buy-in for a purchase.

Indeed, we are terrific at the solution and vendor choice, but I’m suggesting we add a new skill set to the front end of our sales skills to help the buyer maneuver through their off-line issues: sort of a GPS system that dispassionately leads buyers through all of their internal stuff they must manage anyway. Gps pertama kali diciptakan untuk aplikasi militer, namun sejak tahun 1980an, sistem ini bisa digunakan secara bebas. Gps bisa bekerja dalam kondisi cuaca apapun, di manapun di bumi, dan kapanpun (24 jam). Tidak ada pembebanan biaya terhadap penggunaan layanan gps ini.
Satelit-satelit gps ini mengorbit bumi dengan jarak sekitar 12.000 mil dari permukaan bumi, satelit-satelit ini senantiasa bergerak mengelilingi bumi dalam waktu kurang dari 12 jam. Sebelum di jawab apa itu gps kita coba kenali bumi kita dulu….

Orang sering bilang jika bumi kita bulat (iya sih memang klo dlihat bumi kita bulat) tapi sebenarnya bumi kita ini berbentuk elips, jarak antara utara selatan ama jarak timur barat itu berbeda. Karena bumi kita ini bulat dan luas maka perlu nama-nama untuk menandakan suatu lokasi (biar ga tersesat…) seperti ujung kulon untuk daerah di ujung barat pulau jawa, merauke untuk daerah ujung timur dari indonesia.

Tapi apakah cukup penamaan itu untuk menandakan lokasi dibumi ini?
Tenyata tidak…

Contoh ***jung ujung kulon itu ada kecamatan, didalam kecamatan ada desa lagi, didalam desa ada rw, didalam rw ada rt di dalam rt ada kepala dusun… trus puajaaannnnggg deh… trus ketemu deh bagian terkecil dari bumi yaitu toiletnya bang harisx (maaf jika ada persamaan nama disini)  hehehe… ini kalo pas nyari tempat di kota yang ada penghuninya, gampang tinggal tanya ke orang. Lha kalo itu dihutan untuk mengetahui selanjutnya silakan cek di toko gps rimba… mau nanya sapa…? Rumput-rumput yang bergoyang…. kayak lagunya om ebit aja…

kasus seperti ini nih yang susah. Biar gampang akhirnya bumi yang bulat dan luas ini di kasih id dalam bentuk deret angka untuk setiap tempatnya. Id ini adalah lintang untuk sumbu x dan bujur untuk sumbu y. Ternyata gps itu adalah alat yang mampu menterjemahkan dan menampilkan id2 itu sehingga bisa pakai sebagi petunjuk tempat atau posisi. Selain posisi x dan y gps juga ternyata mampu menterjemahkan pisisi ketinggian atau z.

fungsi utama dari gps cuman itu, tetapi karena fungsinya yang bisa menandakan posisi yang unik itu akhirnya gps bisa dikembang beberapa fungsi baru seperti kompas, jalur perjalanan, penunjuk arah kelokasi tertentu (cek harganya di toko gps), penghitung jarak dan lain-lainnya yang berhubungan dengan navigasi.

Gps berhubungan langsung dengan satelit untuk saat ini ada sekitar 30 buah satelit gps dan mempunyai 6 lintasan satelit sehingga seluruh daerah dapat terliput dalam waktu 24 jam sepanjang tahun. Untuk dapat menampilkan data 2 demensi sebuah gps harus bisa mengkap minimal 3 sinyal satelit sedangan untuk data 3 dimensi memerlukan minimal 4 sinyal satelit.

Gps bekerja pada gelombang uhf dan mampu menembus kaca, awan dan plastik. Gedung, pohon dan benda-benda padat lainnya dapat merusak atau menghalangi kerja penerimaan sinyal gps. Jumlah sinyal satelit yang diterima oleh gps juga berpengaruh pada ketepatan koordinat yang di dapat.

Untuk alat gps yang bagus, sebaiknya berkerja dengan database yang bagus juga sehingga peranan gis sangat diperlukan dalam penyediaan data ini.

Gps adalah kependekan dari global positioning system yang adalah sistem navigasi satelit. Dikembangkan oleh united states department of defense (usdod) dengan nama navstar gps (navigation sattelite timing and ranging global positioning system) untuk kepentingan militer amerika serikat.

Satelit pertama yang diorbitkan adalah satelit block-i gps pada tahun 1978. Konstelasi satelitnya saat ini terdiri dari minimum 24 satelit yang mengorbit disekeliling bumi kita. Yang mengelola konstelasi satelit ini adalah us air force 50th space wings cek disini toko gps, dengan biaya sebesar us$750 juta per tahun!! Dengan menentukan posisi dan jarak dari paling tidak 3 satelit, gps kita itu mampu menentukan posisinya dengan menggunakan metode “trilateration” yang mirip dengan “triangulation” yang menggunakan sudut. Semakin banyak jumlah satelit yang tertangkap oleh si gps, semakin tinggi akurasi dari bacaan pada gps kita.

Pada awalnya usdod menerapkan sebuah feature yang disebut selective availability (sa). Sa ini dengan sengaja membuat bacaan dari gps kita tidak akurat(cek di toko gps). Perbedaan dengan kenyataannya bisa mencapai 100meter secara random. Tujuannya adalah agar sinyal gps ini tidak disalah gunakan oleh pihak2 yang tidak bertanggung jawab, atau dengan kata lain pihak selain militer amerika serikat dan aliansinya.

Untuk mengkoreksi hal ini digunakan differential gps (dgps) yang dikelola oleh us coast guard, dimana akurasi dari bacaan gps bisa mencapai kisaran 1m. Sayangnya karena us coast guard yang mengelola, dgps ini hanya bekerja disepanjang garis pantai amerika utara saja. Tidak usah berkecil hati karena saat ini gps kita diindonesia mampu menunjukan suatu titik dengan akurasi 5m.

Sedangkan untuk penggunaan akurasi tinggi, misalnya untuk land surveyor dll, alat gps ini disertai dengan carrier tracking receiver. Ketepatannya berbicara dalam satuan milimeter, luar biasa sekali akurasinya.

Pada awal tahun 1990 faa (federal aviation administration), yang adalah bagian dari us department of transportation, meminta agar pihak tentara amerika untuk menghilangkan sa. Tujuannya agar pihak penerbangan bisa mendapat manfaat juga dari sistem ini.

Saat ini penggunaan GPS sudah sangat meluas, bahkan telpon selular generasi terbarupun mengintegrasikan GPS juga. Khususnya bagi yang berhobby mancing, sangat berguna untuk menyimpan koordinat spot2 pancing dilautan yang luas. Tentunya disamping sebagai alat navigasi yang canggih dan sangat mudah penggunaannya, menggantikan pemakaian dari LORAN dan peta laut konvensional. Berbagai macam jenis, ukuran dan bentuk GPS tersedia dipasaran. Mulai dari yang sangat simpel yang hanya menunjukkan kordinat sampai yang canggih dengan moving map. Tinggal memilih sesuai dengan kebutuhan dan pendanaan!

Have you ever thought about using your GPS system to direct you as a spiritual practice?  In this second article Gary reflects on this useful devise that all of us have come to rely on so quickly.

Since Christmas there has been a new voice in our car as we travel, guiding us through the city streets. We have learnt a new language from this voice: “at the roundabout, take the second exit,” and “exit onto highway 82” – not our usual terms for giving directions. The in-car navigation is certainly a step up from a paper map in many ways. After keying in the address, we set off, the silence (or conversation) occasionally punctuated by a friendly robotic voice offering directions. The only problem with this device is its lack of intimate knowledge about directions, often pushing down side streets with speed humps, or directing us toward situations which are known traffic snarls. There are times I’d like it to exhibit a little sass in its personality: “Are you deaf? You were supposed to turn left back there!” where instead it takes a few moments to recalibrate and offer fresh directions.  Read the entire article
