Trêve de vulgarité, bien que Le Fooding, version new look et branché du guide gastronomique, ait décidé d’être incorrect pour sa fameuse semaine annuelle. Invitée de marque, la belle gourmande irlandaise, auteur de best-sellers culinaires, a proposé un « Spa pur beurre ». Elle enseignera aux couples tirés au sort (deux par soirée) les soins gourmands qu’elle a inventés. Beurre de gommage praliné-noisette à lécher, crème de rasage menthe-concombre à racler et beurre fondu à faire goutter ou gicler sur le corps de sa compagne (ou sur le vôtre). Les plaisirs sont évocateurs et inattendus « mais pas si incorrects que ça, non ? », demande la Trish pudique. Tout dépend de ce que les amoureux décident d’en faire… Enfermés deux heures dans la cabine extrêmement luxueuse d’un spa à l’adresse encore secrète, on peut présager le meilleur. Pendant ce temps, la pulpeuse Trish sera probablement en train de boire de la Veuve Cliquot avec un ou deux représentants de la rédaction de GQ en devisant de son dernier livre : Comme au resto (Marabout).

À GQ, nous sommes tous restés de grand enfants et depuis deux jours on se repasse avec délectations les “Mamma” de l’Animal. Car, pour fêter l’arrivé de la chaîne Muppets Studio sur You Tube, Kermit, Piggy et tous leurs amis proposent une version d’anthologie de la Bohemian Rhapsody du groupe Queen. Cette vidéo, déjà visionnée plus de quatre millions de fois en moins d’une semaine, bénéficie d’un nouveau mode d’affichage (1920X1080 pixels) permettant de la passer en plein écran dans des conditions bien meilleures.

Je respecte ça aussi.” Aussi incroyable que cela puisse paraître, cette phrase pleine de philosophie rousseauiste est signée Booba. Notre collaborateur Arnaud Sagnard a rencontré le rappeur français numéro 1 à l’occasion de la sortie de sa nouvelle mixtape Autopsie volume 3 (Because Music). Le long article qu’il en a tiré, sobrement intitulé “Pourquoi Booba a la plus grosse”, est à retrouver sur Menstyle .
Après ce grand moment de bouddhisme hip-hop, retour au bling bling avec cette séquence dans laquelle Booba parle de ses voitures.

Tous en bleu (avec des bandes blanches) ! Hier soir au 53 de l’avenue des Champs Elysées, la rédaction de GQ était invitée à l’Atelier Renault l’immense showroom de la marque. But de l’événement : dévoiler la Twingo RS (133 ch) en version Gordini. Sans surprise, la voiture présentée se pare de deux bandes blanches sur fond bleu France, et puis c’est tout. Il s’agit donc d’une grosse opération tuning un peu décevante par le « créateur d’automobiles ». Certaines mauvaises langues expliquaient que la marque Alpine, plus chic évidemment, ne pouvait être ressuscitée pour d’obscures questions de droits sur le nom. On se marre doucement. Heureusement la soirée était sur-branchée. On croisait Patrice Meignan d’Intersection, Frank Chevalier de Technikart, Moritz Rogovski élégant styliste et vigneron, ainsi que la fine fleur de la presse automobile. Mieux, Fred Agostini des soirées Respect errait dans les allées alors que le graffeur/businessman André réalisait devant nos yeux son éternel Monsieur A à la bombe de peinture bleue.

Même si on n’a pas goûté la boisson bleue servie dans de grands verres, le champagne (Mumm) était frais – mes petits fours savoureux (surtout les brochettes ananas-crevette) et la musique du DJ-DA-photographe barbu Marco Dos Santos excellente : Sebastien Tellier, Hot Chip, Joy Division, etc…
On lui fut gré de nous avoir épargné la pénible chanson de Renaud : « La Tire à Dédé » (un hommage à André ?).

Ne mélangeons pas les torchons et les serviettes, ou plutôt le carbone et le silicone ! A GQ, nous sommes très à cheval sur le style, et les ordinateurs rebadgés par une célèbre marque de voiture de sport sont donc définitivement proscrits. Ce concept vient d’être élu officiellement comme la meilleure fausse bonne idée de l’année. La preuve par trois.

Acer sort son notebook Ferrari-One F200. La coque de l’écran 11,6 pouces peinte en rouge arbore l’écusson de la marque. 450 euros, c’est très abordable pour une Ferrari, mais un peu cher pour un notebook.

Même constat avec l’Asus Lamborghini 2S, un ordinateur plus puissant et même plus chic avec sa version premium en carbone. Mais tout de même facturé 2800 euros.

Encore plus chic, l’ordinateur Bentley recouvert de cuir surpiqué façon siège baquet et fabriqué par le designer néerlandais Ego. Seul problème à part son prix (12 000 eur) : on dirait vraiment un sac à main pour dames.

Yamato-Bring on the Drums

Sensational! Awesome! Incredible! This only begins to describe the powerful Yamato Drummers that will deliver two performances of their high-energy program MATSURI (Fiesta!) at the Cailloux Theater in Kerrville at 7:30pm on both Wednesday, October 21st and Thursday, October 22nd.

Yamato, the elite taiko drum ensemble from Japan, arrived in North America this past week after having completed 200+ performances in their 2009 European tour. Single performances have exceeded attendance figures of 65,000 almost three times the population of Kerrville! Hill Country residents will have two opportunities to attend this live performance usually culminating in rousing standing ovations that never cease to end!

Probably the smallest venue of their 2009 tour, the Cailloux Theater will provide the most intimate setting for this high-energy performance. Costumes, lighting, amazing feats of technical performances by the drummers, interspersed with the traditional shamisen (Japanese banjo), Shinobue (Japanese flute) and other native instruments, result in a spectacular live event for the opening of KPAS’ 26th season.

Concertgoers will be treated to pre-concert performances by the Tivy High School Drumline (Wednesday evening) and the Fredericksburg High School Drumline (Thursday evening). The entire evening is geared for audiences of all ages.

The two performances, along with a student outreach program for 800+ students on Thursday, October 22nd, are made possible through the generosity and support of Sue & Joe Atkinson, Kerr County Abstract & Title Company and Kerrville Framing. The Texas Commission on the Arts and The City of Kerrville Hotel Occupancy Tax, administered through The Kerrville Convention and Visitors Bureau, provide additional support for Yamato’s appearances. Artist hospitality will be provided by the following local businesses: China Town, Salada’s, Culligan, and YO Ranch Resort.

What is one meant to do to old ties?

I have very many ties in my closet. Don’t get me wrong. Every man does. Some are bright, others dull. Some ties always end up in my hands and on my neck and are well worn and worn well.

Whichever way I tie them,they look great ; so much so after a great day with one close to my chest, it sometimes hurts to unwind the knot..and you put it back in the closet knowing the next experience will be even better….

Others, I wonder how I got them in the first place.

And yet I still have the urge to get more ties. Each time I see a new one in a new design. I stop and wonder, hmmm…

Of course I have to consider, does it suit my suite of suits? Does it go with me,does it make everything brighter or tones it down. ( Depending on the circumstances, both are important, you know?)

Sometimes its just spontaneous, like” boom”: I saw one like this in GQ or with that CEO chap,so I find myself tied up in a tie that deep inside,I really dint want round me.

My problem is why we, as men are always seeking out new ties when we have a closetful of old ones.
When will they ever be enough?I don’t suppose they are meant to burnt?

It cost so much to get some one would rather keep them as decorative pieces.Some we keep of course, due to sentimental value, the memory attached to it,the thoughts that are tied to it.
And sometimes we do let go of the sentimental yackidyshmackidy. But the tie remains.

So the question still stands;
What am I to do to my old ties?

L’esprit de famille se perpétue dans Shaun of the dead, clin d’œil à Dawn of the dead (Zombie en VF) de Romero…

un peu comme si Woody Allen réalisait 28 jours plus tard (de Danny Boyle)…

In addition to being passionate about personal finance and music, I do what I can to maintain a sense of style (as opposed to fashion, which I believe is more fleeting than style — but I digress). I just got this month’s issue of GQ, and while I typically rely on the magazine for little more than its glimpse into the fashion world, I was drawn to Benjamin Kunkel’s article about Nouriel Roubini. For those of you who don’t know who he is, Roubini is an economics professor at NYU’s Stern School of Business. He also runs his own consulting firm, Roubini Global Economics, and maintains a blog of his own, Nouriel Roubini’s Global EconoMonitor. More significantly, Roubini is probably the most prominent and prescient economist who predicted the current economic crisis. As early as 2006, Roubini predicted that the United States “was likely to face a once-in-a-lifetime housing bust, an oil shock, sharply declining consumer confidence, and, ultimately, a deep recession.” Boy, was he right…

Born in Turkey to a family of Iranian Jews, Roubini spent a few years in Tehran, Iran and Tel Aviv, Israel before his family settled in Milan, Italy when he was five years old. He has degrees from Bocconi University, in Milan, and Harvard, has taught at Yale, and has previously worked with the IMF (International Monetary Fund), the World Bank, the White House Council of Economic Advisors, and the United States Treasury Department (under President Clinton).

According to Kunkel, Roubini thinks the U.S. economy “is still limping from what he likes to call a hard landing” — a fall from which you don’t bounce right back up.” Roubini expects that the economy will grow at approximately 1.5% — less than half its historical rate — thanks, in part, to government stimulus. Kunkel quotes Roubini:

If you ask about the medium term, actually, I think the opportunities for global growth on a sustained basis are quite positive. Right now the basic building block of global demand, the U.S. consumer, is faltering; therefore, there’s a lack of aggregate demand relative to supply. The supply has been rising because China and emerging markets have been investing so much in new factories and new productive capacity. A lack of demand relative to excess supply — that’s what the global recession is.”

Roubini calls for a complete rebalancing of the global economy, with the U.S. and Europe saving more and other countries, such as China, Japan, and Germany, spending more. For the U.S., he predicts tight credit, high unemployment, and possibly even the return of stagflation a la the 1970s, depending on the relationship between oil prices and overall growth. In early 2007, Roubini said “a strong rebound is unlikely,” but Kunkel points to the “more colorful” phrase of financial journalist Doug Henwood: the routinization of crappiness.

Despite the Dow’s recent return to 10,000, Roubini remains uncertain about the future:

The key issue is not whether the recession is over today or in three months but whether over the medium term growth is going to be robust or anemic, or even whether there’s a risk of a double-dip recession. And I believe the recovery is going to be anemic.

Why an anemic recovery? He points to the fact that banks are still unwilling to lend; that U.S. households are still in debt and out of work, and that corporations are still cutting costs, rather than increasing revenue.

Though many feel they no longer need Roubini, he said to Kunkel that “[t]oo big to fail is now too bigger to fail. Welcome to the great financial crisis of 2014.” I sure hope he’s wrong, but I want to be ready in case he’s right. Isn’t that why we’re all here?

AnnaLynne McCord and Jessica Stroup have great legs. They are long and slim and they typically do a nice job of decorating them. They each seem to enjoy wearing short dresses or skirts and can usually be found rocking a nice pair of high heels. They look hot together as they head to the GQ party at Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood.

FLY EM LIKE  A BIRD LIKE NELLY FURTADO

La Pump souffle ses 20 bougies… A la rédaction de GQ, on est plutôt Stan Smith, Air Force One ou Reebok Classics. Les trucs discrets quoi… Il n’empêche qu’on a tous un souvenir ému de la Pump de Reebok, dont le modèle tennis fut immortalisé par Michael Chang. Véritable chausson qui se gonfle d’une simple pression du pouce, la Pump fête ses vingt ans. Et on a tous un souvenir de cette Reebok de légende (généralement, ça tourne autour des parents qui les trouvaient vraiment trop chers… mais passons). Pour fêter dignement cet anniversaire, Reebok propose vingt modèles collectors, dont celui pour la France, conçu par Colette.

GQ – Disco Nights

En av mina trognaste bloggbesökare, Dick, kom med ett riktigt Scoop i kommentarerna till ett tidigare inlägg med TS Monk. Låten med GQ känner nog de flesta, som har lite koll på gammal disco, igen. Vad jag inte visste men som Dick upplyste mig om är att delar av GQ tidigare spelade under namnet Rhythm Makers och 1976, dvs två år innan GQ släppte Disco Nights, spelade de in följande spår.

Känns lite som man hört det förut, eller hur! Finns iofs fler liknande fall i musikhistorien men sällan något som är så extremt tydligt. Det närmaste jag kan komma på är när Fresh Band ohämmat lånade från Slaves Just A Touch Of Love till sin Come Back Lover. Fast då var det ju inte så att det var samma killar som gjorde en remake utan ett gäng som lånade ett tema från en uttans bra låt. Hade upp detta exempel i ett inlägg för nåt år sen som finns att läsa på bloggen för den som är intresserad.

Vill i alla fall tacka Dick för all input jag får genom hans kommentarer. Det sporrar en att få lite tips och inspiration, då lixom lyfter man sig ett snäpp och försöker skriva om sådant som är lite intressant och har en historia. Annars skulle det ju vara busenkelt att bara mata ut låtar på bloggen och visst finns det perioder när man inte är 100% på topp utan bara plockar låtar ur backloggen. Men för det mesta försöker jag få till något vettigt av klippen jag hittar så att det inte bara blir en räcka nostalgiska klipp på bloggen utan även lite att läsa oxå för den som är intresserad.

i guess you could say this is the age of blind conversation…most of us talk via texting, facebook, and my new fave ichat.  but here is something new.  while looking over the GQ website trying to find something to write about I found this… Omegle.  essentially its a chat room where you talk to a stranger.  no username, email, picture needed you are totally anonymous.  so I went in search of random information.  some people did not really like my approach and were on the site for different reasons.  many asked “asl?” (age, sex, location), but instead I asked people to tell me something interesting.  i’m still debating whether this is interesting or creepy… but for your own comfort you can disconnect the conversation at any time.
