Sometimes I want to shake the famously quirky Lindsey Graham until his teeth rattle. But every once in a while he is brilliant.

Yesterday was one of those times. Watch here as he absolutely slaughters Attorney General Eric Holder, who was never able to provide any logical reason for transferring KSM and Co. to the civilian system, despite hours of testimony.

I’m trying to find a clip of Sen. Jon Kyle quoting from Andy McCarthy’s National Review article this week, in which the latter accurately described Holder as “a lawyer whose firm is among those responsible for the litigation-driven delay that became a lawfare triumph for al-Qaida.”

Here is McCarthy’s withering post on Holder’s performance as well.

Former Attorney General and Senator John Ashcroft thinks Holder lacks authority to make such a decision.

And Terrence Jeffrey reminds us that in May His Oneness said he’d use military commissions to try those who violate the rules of war.

The decision to bring the 9/11 plotters to New York is pure politics, nothing else.

“I am the Dragon. And you call me insane. You are privy to a great becoming, but you recognize

“I am the Dragon. And you call me insane. You are privy to a great becoming, but you recognize nothing. To me, you are a slug in the sun. You are an ant in the afterbirth. It is your nature to do one thing correctly. Before me, you rightly tremble. But, fear is not what you owe me. You owe me awe.”

Red Dragon, the third and final film in the Hannibal series that is worth rewatching. Again, the writing, characters, acting and sets are magnificent. The direction could use a little work, but if you told me, “the guy who did Rush Hour and Xmen 3 is making the film of Red Dragon I would have slaughtered families. But no, he did a lot better than could be expected based on his other films. Rush Hour is fine, amusing, but it really doesn’t cut the mustard.

Anyway, despite the fact that I had previously felt it was my favourite, I’d say it is maybe the weakest of the trilogy (I’m not meaning to be insulting to Hannibal Rising, but it’s not worth including. Also, I’m not meaning to say that I don’t insult it, I’m just not doing so now.) The character of Francis is amazing, very well done by Ralph Fiennes, as usual. Same with Graham, I think he is a great character and Edward Norton does a really good job. Anthony Hopkins doesn’t need to be mentioned since he and Hannibal are really in another league, though in this film I can see the direction on him.

So, in hindsight, I’d say that Silence of the Lambs is definitely the best made, with probably the best Hopkins performance of the three. I still really adore a great deal of Hannibal, with only a few moments that aren’t dealt with well, plus some of my dislikes for the story which I don’t think can be avoided. I’d put it in a close second after Silence, only put back by some weak filmic techniques. Red Dragon comes in at a very memorable third, it is still a great film, but the book is not completely translated to the film. The feel is not there and while Ratner didn’t do a bad job, I would put some blame on the direction.

Anyway, all are great films, very worth a watch, very worth a read. Read and watch Hannibal Rising just because you should, but do not let it ruin the others for you.

How about some love for the greatest practice player of all-time? Joey Graham is actually now a member of the Nuggets, who the Raps face Tuesday night in Denver. He’s averaging just 3.7 points in seven games, but believe me, he runs Carmelo Anthony ragged every morning at shootaround.

Perhaps best known as the “father of the chronograph”, George Graham (1673-1751) was also the brains behind inventions such as the dead-beat cylinder escapement, the first wall chronograph and the mercury pendulum.

Commissioned by the Greenwich Royal Observatory to create the Master Clock used by astronomers, he became the first great 18th century clock-maker to be admitted to the Royal Society.

Perpetuating this spirit of remarkable innovations and technical expertise, Graham is now a contemporary watch brand dedicated to enthusiasts of the mechanical arts.

Open-minded and passionately interested in exchanges with his peers, including in other countries, Graham would doubtless have approved this modern Swiss initiative to revive the finest British horological traditions and build on his rich heritage.

Based on inventive concepts determining design, functions and finish, the “British brand made by Swiss” creates imposing “wrist machines”.

Graham watches evoke a powerful fascination among connoisseurs and collectors with technically and esthetically playful objects that combine originality, exclusivity and avant-garde with the excellence of traditional know-how.

The Bengals are for real and Chad Ochocinco didn’t even pay me to say that. Cincinnati went on the road and beat Pittsburgh 18-12 this afternoon — a defensive slugfest with the only touchdown coming on a 96-yard kickoff return by Bernard Scott late in the first quarter. Shayne Graham and Jeff Reed each had four field goals, though Reed’s feat is a bit more impressive considering he was likely drunk.

Cincinnati improves to 7-2 with the win, including 4-0 against division powerhouses Pittsburgh and Baltimore. Have they proven themselves legitimate contenders? Well, it would seem that way, but since they’re still the Bengals, they might have to win it all to make believers out of most. Still, nice to see them go in and leave a mark on a division mostly run by the Steelers and the Ravens the past 131 years or so.

Elsewhere, it was a another rough week for my boy Kyle Orton, who threw for 193 yards and two touchdowns in the first half before leaving with an ankle injury and watching his Bronco mates fall to the dreadful Redskins, 27-17. No word on the extent of the injury, which was suffered on a scramble late in the second quarter. The loss was Denver’s third straight after starting 6-0.

Other scores from Sunday: Carolina 28, Atlanta 19; Miami 25, Tampa Bay 23; Minnesota 27, Detroit 10; Jacksonville 24, NY Jets 22; New Orleans 28, St. Louis 23; Tennessee 41, Buffalo 17; Kansas City 16, Oakland 10; Arizona 31, Seattle 20.

The game of your lifetime comes tonight, with Brian Hoyer and the Pats in Indy to face the undefeated Colts. Enjoy it, because Monday night is a stinker, with Cleveland hosting Baltimore.

I’m actually running low on supplies.

I’ve been knitting like a madwoman lately whenever I can get a chance and I’m actually running low!

Two of the M’s presents are done.
I made an orange headband out of my hand-dyed Orange Koolaid yarn (post and pictures to come!)
I’ve made two hats out of the gorgeous red yarn
I made Quincy out of some left-over white yarn (**Currently for sale… if anyone is interested)
I’m working on Gryffindor and Hufflepuff
Anthony’s scarf is about a foot and a half done and I haven’t had the time or the inspiration to continue working on it… Sorry, Anthony!
Graham is still being worked on. I’ve not had time over the last couple of days to get a single stitch on the needles so I’ll have to really get working on that this weekend if I want to be able to wear it any time soon.

I’m still a little behind of where I thought I could be right now. I wanted to have all my x-mas presents/friend’s creations done by now but I’m still scrambling. Christmas is over a month away so I know most of you are wondering what’s wrong with me that I think I’m behind schedule, but it’s just how I am!

In any case, I have about 4 full skeins of yarn from my Christmas extravaganza, and those are for two people, T and C. I’m still contemplating what I want to do for C because I’ll want to make hers long- requiring the yarn be held single, not double. Luckily Caron doesn’t make yarn with dye-lots so I don’t have a problem with multiple colors seeping into the yarn. I’m thinking a simple K1P1 Rib Stitch will suffice for her… thought it’ll take me longer to do.

Then with T’s scarf, I need to wait until I finish Anthony’s scarf… because Anthony’s is on the needles that I need for T’s.

Then, last night, I came to realization that I have about 5 or 6 skeins of the old brown that I wanted to make a sweater out of and 1 blue. I’m thinking a vertical striped scarf with a blue outline or a brown hat with blue crown, brim and flaps is in order soon.

I guess I’ll have to do an inventory when I’m done with the Christmas collection. Hopefully these yarns can last me until Seattle so I can go crazy with buying lots of yarns!

These sweet little squares truly are, as the recipe indicates, easy as can be–with a wonderful return. During the baking, the brown sugar/butter mixture seeps into the cracker, rendering it crunchy on the edges but slightly chewier inside, and the candy-coating gives the walnuts a completely addictive rich, savory-meets-sweet flavor.

Ingredients:

Graham crackers

1 cup firmly packed brown sugar

10 tablespoons butter

1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar

1 cup walnuts

1 large bar milk chocolate, such as Lindt, coarsely chopped

How?:

Break enough graham crackers into individual rectangles to cover the bottom of a 15×10x1-inch jelly roll pan.

In a saucepan, bring brown sugar and butter to a boil.

Add cream of tartar and walnuts (or pecans) to the boiling mixture. Pour over graham crackers and spread as evenly as you can (it’s a pretty thick mixture so it’s best if you only spread one way rather than going back and forth). Scatter the chocolate on top, if you’ve chosen to add it.

Bake in a 325 degree F oven for 10-15 minutes, or until the chocolate has gotten melty and the sugar mixture is lightly bubbling. Remove from the pan while still warm.

Graham Red Devils 37, Bartlett Yancy Buccaneers 18. Here’s the story. There’s video, too

Graham Red Devils 37, Bartlett Yancy Buccaneers 18.

Here’s the story. There’s video, too!

Post-Game Thoughts:

The Red Devils won their first conference game of the year, in what turned out to be their last. On a sadder note, Bartlett Yancy failed to win a conference game this year.

There is no reason for Graham wide receiver Marquise Richmond to not perform like this every game. He’s 6′6″, 200 lbs.+ and has decent hands. He should physically dominate every defensive back he plays against.

Graham scored 23 points in the second half. That’s considered an offensive explosion for that team.

Chatter from the Press Box: This was the hardest-hitting game I’ve seen. More than a dozen times, my colleague and I in the booth said, “Ohh,” or “Ouch,” or “Oh my gosh, I think that kid gave himself a concussion.”

I don’t have proof of that injury, but a linebacker from BY was blocking on a kickoff return, laid someone out and ran off the field the wrong way. After finally getting to the sideline, he took his helmet off and laid down.

He was hurting.

Stat of the Week: 3, as in the number of touchdown passes thrown by Graham quarterback Justin Cousin.

His start left much to be desired, but he picked it up in their second half. Cousin finally took advantage of his receiver’s heighth and made some big plays in the passing game.

Cousin’s lob pass to Richmond in the left corner of the end zone was a thing of beauty. His other TD strike to Richmond through the heart of the BY zone proves that this sophomore has plenty of potential.

Player of the Week: Marquise Richmond, WR, Graham. He’s big (see above). He’s got solid hands. He’s athletic.

Richmond had 2 touchdown grabs and 100+ yards receiving. This should be an ordinary day at the office with this kid’s physical stature.

Dedicado a Homo Insanus y Alfredo

“Charles Sidney Burpee was born in Sheffield, Sunbury County, New Brunswick, on June 18, 1817, the son of Jeremiah Burpee and Elizabeth Stickney. He was educated at the common school in Sheffield, and eventually became a farmer. He was married twice: first to Mary Perley and then to Charlotte H. Perley.

He unsuccessfully contested the Sunbury County seat for the House of Assembly in 1854. In 1867, he was elected to the House of Commons as a member of the Liberal Party for Sunbury County. He was re-elected in 1872, 1874, 1878, and 1882. At the General Election of 1887, he was defeated and retired from active politics. In 1900, Burpe was made a member of the Senate of Canada, and sat until his resignation to become Commissioner to the Paris Exposition. Burpee died November 29, 1909, at Sheffield. He was survived by two sons.

The Burpee Papers, which date from 1814 to 1949, are largely made up of Charles Burpee’s correspondence in which political discussions play a major role. A great deal of information on Sunbury County matters and personalities can also be found in the letters. Material, which is not correspondence, is found at the end of the collection, and includes legal papers, notes for speeches, and general information on the Burpee family. The series measures 13 centimeters.”
