Happy Day-After-Thanksgiving, music nerds! I hope everyone is feeling full and happy, and enjoying a relaxing extended holiday weekend.

I have some exciting news to report! I have been asked to be the ‘official’ blogger for classical music for this year’s GRAMMY Awards^®, as part of their Community Blogger Program. I’ll be covering the nominations when they’re announced next week on December 2, and then I’ll write about the award-winners after they’re revealed at the end of January.

I’m also planning to go to L.A. to attend some of the GRAMMY week events. Wish me luck for hitting it big in Tinseltown!

You’ll see a few changes around the blog in connection with this project — don’t worry, though, it’s nothing drastic; I’m still the same ol’ music nerd you’ve always known. I’ll be following the conventions of the The Recording Academy^® Style Book, which is why you’ll see the ® symbol after the first mention of trademark entities. No, I’m not on commission or anything! Oh, and yes, GRAMMY is supposed to be in all caps. I know y’all are sticklers for editorial accuracy, so I wanted to make sure you knew this was intentional and not me shouting or anything!

The other change is one I’ve been meaning to make anyway, and now I’ve gotten the nudge I needed to get my hindquarters in gear. I will henceforth be blogging under my very own domain name:

The old wordpress url will redirect to the new domain, but be sure to update your bookmarks, etc., anyway, because that ‘forwarding order’ may not be permanent. Being the mistress of my own nerd domain is going to be pretty fun, I think!

Grammy-award winner Ne-Yo is set to perform at The Pearl Concert Theater in the Palms Casino Resort on Jan. 1. 

In 2006, Ne-Yo hit the R&B scene with a style all his own – a mix of classic sounds with a modern twist. His debut album, In My Own Words, hit #1 on the Billboard 200 and solidified his role as an artist to watch. The Las Vegas singer’s sophomore album, Because of You (2007), also peaked at #1 on the Billboard 200 and brought Ne-Yo much acclaim when he won Best Contemporary R&B Album at the 2007 Grammy Awards. 

With Ne-Yo’s third DVD, The Year of the Gentleman, the Las Vegas native and premier songwriter has constructed a suite of songs that shows exactly what he means by class. Written over the course of travels through Europe and his own fascination with the hometown boys known as the Rat Pack, Ne-Yo explains, “For me, the sharpness of Sammy and Sinatra is the kind of style I strive for in clothes and music. Year of the Gentleman is named in honor of those guys.”

Embattled torch singer Amy Winehouse spent a third night in the hospital after becoming sick, reports People. Winehouse developed her illness after taking over-the-counter remedies for a cold which reacted with medication already in her system revealed a source. She was admitted to the London Clinic on Sunday.

 

Winehouse’s health has been a constant concern since the release of her critical and commercial breakthrough ‘Back to Black’ in 2006. She even battled death said her father, Mitch Winehouse. However, he believes she has progressed and is feeling more confident and healthy than before.

She had been “healthy for a year” confided Mitch. He is also satisfied with the results of her breast enhancement surgery saying it looks “great.” Another source concurred saying Amy feels “really good about herself … She’s been saying how she wants to get back in the gym.”

Amy Winehouse, 26, won five Grammy Awards for ‘Back to Black,’ tying the record for most wins by a female artist in a single night.

Her drug and alcohol addiction as well as tumultuous relationship with former husband Blake Fielder-Civil have made her life tabloid fodder.

A few of us here at HW Design Inc. saw John Mayer live at the Grammy Awards Announcment Show last December at the Nokia Theatre (Along with Taylor Swift, The Foo Fighters and Mariah Carey).  The pure genius of his performance has been a well-discussed topic at our offices this year.  The amazing night cemented Mayer as one of our favorites and has built some excitement for the release of his new album, “Battle Studies.”  Mayer is combining today’s release with a performance tonight.
The “John Mayer Live From the Beacon Theatre” concert airs LIVE and in HD on Fuse TONIGHT (Tuesday November 17 at 9pm ET)- 6pm in Los Angeles.  The concert will also include a revealing one-on-one interview with Mayer.

Steve Martin (Born 1945 in Waco, TX) is a Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award nominated, and Grammy Award winning American Actor, Producer, Director, Writer, Musician, and Comedian. Amy Winehouse is worried that her American visa problems will hold up her new album.

The star is working with Miami-based producer Salaam Remi on her third record, but can’t fly out to see him. She has asked if he will come to London instead.

Amy Tweeted: “salaam, we got gutter but this visa thing is such an obstacle- envisage you in london? please? x miss an love you xxxxx”

The singer has had problems travelling to the US in the past, due to legal issues. Earlier this year she had to pull out of the huge Coachella festival after being refused permission to enter America following charges she had assaulted a fan in Britain. She was also refused a visa for last year’s Grammy Awards – where she won five gongs – over drugs charges, forcing her to perform via satellite link-up instead.

Daniel de los Reyes as a percussionist has worked along side the who’s who of music. To name a few Yanni, Don Henley, Earth, Wind & Fire, Sheryl Crow.

With the AMAs coming up within a few weeks, I decided to bring up the topic of music award shows.  Doesn’t it seem like music awards show are just televised concerts these days?  You have a slew of performers going every 5 minutes, and add in commercials every 10 minutes or so.  Where is the coverage of the actual awards being handed out?  Also there is a good chance that a majority of the awards have already been given out before the show started, which I think is an excuse for the producers to show what they really want to the audience.  These days I’ve lost my appetite for watching award shows, due to the lack of focus on the actual awards.  I remember when I would set aside time to watch the Grammy Awards, Billboard Music Awards, American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, and BET Awards.  But like I’ve said before, the music industry is a business, so someone’s got to make money (think ratings).  So I can’t blame them, but it’s still saddening to think about it.

Orianthi was Michael Jackson’s lead guitarist and was present on all rehearsals for his This Is It tour before his death.

She played and sang at Jackson’s memorial, globally televised live on July 7, 2009. She appears in the film Michael Jackson’s This Is It, which chronicles the rehearsals for the tour.

She also appeared at the 51st annual Grammy Awards as
Carrie Underwood’s lead guitarist, with Underwood inviting Orianthi to become a member of her band.

Paul Simon wrote it. Art Garfunkel sang it. And America loved it. “Bridge Over Troubled Water” won the Grammy Awards for both Record of the Year and Song of the Year in 1971. And Rolling Stone named it number 47 in its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

But, coming as it did near the end of Simon and Garfunkel’s partnership, it didn’t come into being without some travail. Although Simon wrote it for Garfunkel’s voice, he has stated that he wishes he’d sung it himself. “He felt I should have done it,” Simon told Rolling Stone in 1972. “And many times I’m sorry I didn’t do it.”

Since the recording industry organization BMI named it the 19th-most-performed song of the twentieth century, it should come as no surprise that several excellent covers have been recorded. Aretha Franklin won a Grammy for Best Female R&B Performance for her 1972 version. Johnny Cash (Great American Thing No. 59) and The Jackson 5 recorded it.

DO of the Black Flock Gang

You may call him DO, you may call him the Deacon, but whichever moniker you prefer, you must pay heed to the Poet Laureate of the Streets, blood brother to Mouf Piece of da City, and one half of Birmingham’s legendary duo, Dem Hard Headz.

Word from every corner has it this enigmatic icon will soon take wing with microphone in hand, launching into a furious lyrical lashing which is certain to bring even the most jaded, hardened soul to bow down to his power and dominance. This is not idle chatter, friends, this is not bravado, this assertion is grounded in a proven track history of freestyle battles, adept delivery on the mic captured on film, and the throngs of fans who mob the dimly lit backdoors to each nightclub he plays in an attempt to catch even the briefest glimpse of the legendary and darkly mysterious icon with his corn rows down.

An elusive character often spoken of as possessing the wisdom, power, and stealth of a black jaguar in the Amazon, at heart DO is surprisingly down to earth. A creature molded by his years on the tough streets of the Magic City, his lyrics are filled with insight into the trials and tribulations of a portion of society which goes largely unnoticed and neglected, except for in the eyes of entities such as local and federal law enforcement.

Hard Headz: Blood Brothers

A solid example of his roots might be found in his coming smash hit, “Cash In”, with older brother, mentor, and all around savvy Hard Head, the oft spoken of highly and widely, Mouf Piece of da City. In the high octaine cocaine based single, DO proceeds to break down the underworld of cocaine, a realm in which the search for sheer and immediate satisfaction through “white china” creates an element of the hopeless, strung out, and addicted, as well as the accommodating dealers poised, as the song takes point of, to “Cash in”. 

On DO’s mark, the field has assembled in legions to futilely attempt to trump this poet laureate. When asked how he feels about the jam up of so called opponents, the Deacon just smiles, sits back, and proceeds to pop open another chaser of Budweiser. With the nickname the Budweiser Kang, DO shows no fear of the perils of this world, as through a supreme sense of confidence, he senses no fear. Perhaps out of a sense of haughty superiority which has evolved through years of walking up and down the block stomping over the competition, his confidence is as warranted as it is appropriate.

DO: Poet Laureate of the BFG

In the debut of BFG, the CD certain to take the world by storm, Dem Hard Headz pair up with the FAM Boy$, whose ranks include Facts, Lo, and the most infamous citizen of Birmingham by way of Adamsville, the honorable and worthy Hood Shuttlesworth. The collective known as Black Flock Gang  gather for a round at stardom beyond the pale of imagination. 

Word has it their subsequent mind bending stab into the psyche of the general public will follow with the future release of a compilation album, brain child of Joe Stern-McGovern and Shaka Productions of Universal Artists, International. Partial proceeds of the album will go to fund the agency’s concern for the issue of pediatric AIDS. Filled with a social conscience as well as the skills which level the competition, DO is filled with heartfelt kindness, coupled with pride and professionalism. He is able and ready, and promises to devastate any negativity or hate so prevalent in the field known as hip hop. His casual yet poignant manner has replaced in its stead an image of social awareness and compassion for his culture, people, and the community as a whole.

A Star-Studded Night For First Annual Noble Awards

“It was a successful night, everyone who contributed and participated in the event came away with a warm feeling in their heart,” said Creator and Founder Janeen Mansour of The Noble Awards, held (Sunday, October 18^th) at The Beverly Hilton, Beverly Hills.
Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush hosted the first awards show, and he himself was also honored for his dedication as a board member and hustling fundraiser for the Lollipop Theater Network. They bring magic and movies currently in theaters to children confiened to hospitals nationwide due to chronic or life-threatening illnesses.

The event honored  Morgan Freeman with a Lifetime Achievement Award and dozen other celebs received recognition and a Noble Award for charity work.

Despite being a little under the weather for running a Trianthalon in the name of charity Terri Hatcher accepted her award from Actor James Denton, America’s favorite plummer also on Desperate Housewives.

Other celebs included  Norman Lear,  Lionel Richie, Laila Ali, Nancy O’Dell, Joel  Madden, Brett Ratner, Kenny Babyface  Edmonds, and Annalynne McCord. There  were some surprises, too like America’s  Got Talent Nick Cannon as one of the presenters.

The awards were sculptured by Antonio Banderas the children at the Shriners Hospitals for Children with the guidance of The Art of Elysium volunteer/actor/sculptor David Grieco.   Joel Madden said, “The artists at The Art of Elysium” should get an award, too.-

The first awards show came off without a hitch and the live music performances enhanced an inspiration evening. It was an evening of entertainment and celebration that honors charities, celebrities and the tremendous work that they do.

‘This event and movement should inspire the next generation to be noble throughout their lives,” said Mansour.

One of the highlights of the musical performance that brought the house down was Monica, introduced by Bill Bush. Born and raised in Atlanta, Monica Denise Arnold is a talented R&B / pop singer, songwriter and actress.  She became the youngest female artist ever to have two back-to-back No. 1 hits on Billboard’s R&B singles chart. Both songs from her three-times-platinum debut, “Miss Thang,” topped the Hot 100 chart and sold one million copies each. In 1998,

“The Boy Is Mine” was released and had three consecutive No. 1 Billboard pop singles. The title track with Brandy spent 13 weeks at No. 1 on the pop charts and eight weeks at No. 1 on the R&B listing. Additionally, the duet earned Monica a Grammy to add to her American Music, Soul Train and Billboard Awards.

The inaugural NOBLE AWARDS event, produced on behalf of the non-profit Celebrity Charity Awards Corporation, a 501c3, has a mission to unify the efforts of charities with celebrities, philanthropists, media and every day citizens to create
an effective forum for change and service.

Another of the highlights of the evening was eight-year old Emily Bear, who performaned live at the Noble Awards show.

8-year old Emily Bear – Pianist Emily Bear has only been playing piano for three years, but at just eight years old, her accomplishments are inspiring and her talent is breathtaking. Classical, jazz and boogie come naturally to her. Emily’s songs were are all written and composed at age seven.

She performs a large list of classics and standards, and also composes her own magical songs. Giving and charity are very important to Emily and a portion of the proceeds from all CD sales are donated to charity foundations such as Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Ronald McDonald House Charities, and Children’s Hospital, among others. Her latest CD “Always True” is now available in the Store. Her first three CDs, “Five Years Wise”, “The Love In Us” and “Once Upon A Wish” are also available.

The Lion’s King’s Timothy Mitchell also sang and played a powerful song on piano sounding much like Steve Wonder with a great stage band backing him up.

Each year the Noble Awards will recognize and honor philanthropic organizations and the celebrities that make considerable contributions to them. This year’s honorees, who attended to accept their award included Nancy O’Dell for Best Buddies International, AnnaLynne McCord for The Blind Project, Teri Hatcher for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Brett Ratner forDoSomething.org, Billy Bush for Lollipop Theater Network, Whitney Burditt for Playing for Change, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds forStand Up To Cancer, Laila Ali for Women’s Sport Foundation and a charity very close to my heart, The Art of Elysium honoring Joel Madden.

Julio Iglesias Jr.also provided some soul soothing live singing at the event. Julio Iglesias Jr.was born in Madrid, Spain to well-known singer, Julio Iglesias and Isabel Preysler. He moved to Miami, Florida at a very young age, a place he now considers home.

Jennifer Howell, Founder of The Art of Elysium, presented this award to Joel Madden with Lionel Richie, Allison Beck and Stacey Price: “As both an artist and a father, Joel truly embodies a sincere passion for both music and children.  It was evident in his beautiful and humble acceptance speech where he expressed his heartbreak at the thought of a child spending one second inside of a hospital.  A moment that was also extremely moving was when his twin brother Benji (who has spent many days with The Art of Elysium teaching guitar and participating in music workshops) shared his love for his brother with a music dedication.

Nicole Richie (who has also dedicated her talents to the charity) looked on lovingly while her Father introduced Joel and thanked him for loving his daughter so much.  The love, support and generosity that was shown by all members of Joel’s family are the true roots that can help take The Art of Elysium’s mission to every child that spends that terrifying one second in a hospital.”

A Star-Studded Night For First Annual Noble Awards

“It was a successful night, everyone who contributed and participated in the event came away with a warm feeling in their heart,” said Creator and Founder Janeen Mansour of The Noble Awards, held (Sunday, October 18^th) at The Beverly Hilton, Beverly Hills.
Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush hosted the first awards show, and he himself was also honored for his dedication as a board member and hustling fundraiser for the Lollipop Theater Network. They bring magic and movies currently in theaters to children confiened to hospitals nationwide due to chronic or life-threatening illnesses.

The event honored  Morgan Freeman with a Lifetime Achievement Award and dozen other celebs received recognition and a Noble Award for charity work.

Despite being a little under the weather for running a Trianthalon in the name of charity Terri Hatcher accepted her award from Actor James Denton, America’s favorite plummer also on Desperate Housewives.

Other celebs included  Norman Lear,  Lionel Richie, Laila Ali, Nancy O’Dell, Joel  Madden, Brett Ratner, Kenny Babyface  Edmonds, and Annalynne McCord. There  were some surprises, too like America’s  Got Talent Nick Cannon as one of the presenters.

The awards were sculptured by Antonio Banderas the children at the Shriners Hospitals for Children with the guidance of The Art of Elysium volunteer/actor/sculptor David Grieco.   Joel Madden said, “The artists at The Art of Elysium” should get an award, too.-

The first awards show came off without a hitch and the live music performances enhanced an inspiration evening. It was an evening of entertainment and celebration that honors charities, celebrities and the tremendous work that they do.

‘This event and movement should inspire the next generation to be noble throughout their lives,” said Mansour.

One of the highlights of the musical performance that brought the house down was Monica, introduced by Bill Bush. Born and raised in Atlanta, Monica Denise Arnold is a talented R&B / pop singer, songwriter and actress.  She became the youngest female artist ever to have two back-to-back No. 1 hits on Billboard’s R&B singles chart. Both songs from her three-times-platinum debut, “Miss Thang,” topped the Hot 100 chart and sold one million copies each. In 1998,

“The Boy Is Mine” was released and had three consecutive No. 1 Billboard pop singles. The title track with Brandy spent 13 weeks at No. 1 on the pop charts and eight weeks at No. 1 on the R&B listing. Additionally, the duet earned Monica a Grammy to add to her American Music, Soul Train and Billboard Awards.

The inaugural NOBLE AWARDS event, produced on behalf of the non-profit Celebrity Charity Awards Corporation, a 501c3, has a mission to unify the efforts of charities with celebrities, philanthropists, media and every day citizens to create

Brian McKnight has earned himself a spot in contemporary music history. He has released 11 albums to date, 7 of them have gone platinum, with several going 2 and 3x platinum, and has sold over 20 Million albums worldwide. Another of the highlights of the evening was eight-year old Emily Bear, who performaned live at the Noble Awards show.

8-year old Emily Bear – Pianist Emily Bear has only been playing piano for three years, but at just eight years old, her accomplishments are inspiring and her talent is breathtaking. Classical, jazz and boogie come naturally to her. Emily’s songs were are all written and composed at age seven.

She performs a large list of classics and standards, and also composes her own magical songs. Giving and charity are very important to Emily and a portion of the proceeds from all CD sales are donated to charity foundations such as Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Ronald McDonald House Charities, and Children’s Hospital, among others. Her latest CD “Always True” is now available in the Store. Her first three CDs, “Five Years Wise”, “The Love In Us” and “Once Upon A Wish” are also available.

The Lion’s King’s Timothy Mitchell also sang and played a powerful song on piano sounding much like Steve Wonder with a great stage band backing him up.

Each year the Noble Awards will recognize and honor philanthropic organizations and the celebrities that make considerable contributions to them.
