Analysis:

Gran Turismo may have created the sim racing genre, but in the end the Forza Motorsport series won out in the hearts of Frayed Wire readers. The fifth installment of Gran Turismo has yet to come out, so if I had made this poll sometime in the future after that game had been released, maybe we would have seen some different results. But for now, the Xbox’s little pride and joy is the king.

Gran Turismo 5 PrologueKhusus bagi gamer yang addicted dengan game simulasi balapan Gran Turismo pada konsol Play Station, ada artikel menarik nih tentang Gran Turismo 5 yang gue sunting ulang dari Wikipedia.

Gran Turismo 5 (atau yang lebih dikenal sebagai GT5) adalah seri kelima dari game simulasi balapan Gran Turismo yang akan djadualkan rilis bulan Maret 2010.  Sekarang game ini sedang dalam tahap pengembangan oleh Polyphony Digital dan akan di-publish oleh Sony Computer Entertainment untuk konsol game PlayStation 3. Game ini pertama kali akan  diperkenalkan dalam Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, yang menjadi main component feature terbaru Gran Turismo 5 di PlayStation 3.

Fitur utama dari Gran Turismo 5 adalah mode online, dengan kapasitas pemain hingga 16 orang.  Fitur lainnya adalah kerusakan eksternal dan kerusakan mekanis mobil saat balapan, akan tetapi usulan ini masih belum disetujui. Juga performa mobil yang berubah tergantung pada keadaan cuaca yang berubah-ubah dan pada saat balapan di malam hari, yang akan mereka terapkan dalam edisi final Gran Turismo 5.  Saat produser game Kazunori Yamauchi menyatakan bahwa Polyphony Digital telah bekerja “pada kecepatan tinggi” untuk membuat grafis serealis mungkin hingga sesuai dengan  ”saat malam hari” serta “perubahan cuaca dapat mempengaruhi performa mobil,” saat diwawancarai oleh IGN dia berkata bahwa keadaan cuaca adalah sesuatu yang dapat mereka implementasikan, tetapi mereka masih ragu akan mengimplemetasikan teknik perubahan cuaca ini ke dalam edisi final Gran Turismo 5. Track Editor juga telah diusulkan, akan tetapi masih belum disetujui pula. WRC dan NASCAR mode juga akan ditambahkan pada Gran Turismo 5.

Kazunori Yamauchi, creador de la saga Gran Turismo, ha hablado por primera vez del supuesto editor de carreras que incluirá Gran Turismo 5 y que nos permitirá construir nuestra propia pista desde cero o editar una las ya existentes en el juego de carreras exclusivo de PlayStation 3.

En una entrevista concedida a IGN, Yamauchi, que no ha querido comentar si estará disponible en la versión final del juego, ha dejado aparentemente por confirmada su existencia y a continuación comprenderéis porque:

IGN: Si se incluyese un editor de carreras, ¿Vuestro trabajo sería más facil, verdad? Porque los usuarios serian los encargados en crear las carreras en vez de tu equipo.
Yamauchi: [Risas] Muchos de los circuitos que hemos creado, nos han llevado mucho tiempo para finalizar sus detalles y construir los circuitos, por lo que serían diferentes a los circuitos que los usuarios podrán crear en el juego.

Siempre y cuando la traducción se haya realizado correctamente, al señor Yamauchi se le ha escapado ese “podrán”.

Por otra parte, volvió a repetir que aunque técnicamente es posible incluir los ciclos día-noche y los cambios climáticos en el juego, aún no han decidido si incluirlo o no y que por el momento no puede hablar acerca de la supuesta Edición Coleccionista del juego. y que se ha sorprendido con el nivel de atención que la gente presta a los vídeos, imágenes…

Por último destacar que también ha comentado que si los usuarios lo piden, se incluirán motos.

The new PlayStation 3 “Montage” commercial has been on TV for a couple of weeks now, but it was only just yesterday that I noticed some (very) subtle product placement for a big name in the R/C hobby.

Take a look to the left of VP of Epic Footage, Kevin Butler.  I’ve circled it in red so you can’t miss it.

That to me looks like the HPI Racing E10 Ford GT LM Race Car Spec II designed by Gran Turismo.

Awesome car.

It doesn’t really mean much, the car is just a cool prop in the background, but still, a pretty neat find for those in the know.  Check out the HD video on YouTube.

If Wii owners are hoping for a Gran Turismo clone, they’ll have a lot of trouble finding one. Racing simulators like Gran Turismo rely on powerful hardware as the foundation for their high quality graphics engines. The Wii simply isn’t powerful enough. Therefore, the emphasis has to be more on a fun experience rather than one that takes a page from real life. At the launch of the Wii, Nintendo made sure that there was a fun and exciting racing experience on the system with Excite Truck. While it might not be the prettiest racing game out on the market, it’s a great game nonetheless.

Excite Truck is a rally racing game that uses the Wii’s motion controls to interact with the game. The idea isn’t necessarily to win the race but to gain as many stars as possible to increase your ranking for a particular course. You gain stars by your performance in the race, pulling off stunts, and taking out your competitors. After scoring an S score (the best possible) for each race in the Excite class, the Super Excite class is opened up. New trucks and paint jobs are opened up as you progress through the game although most of the game’s unlockables are opened up by playing the game enough times rather than successfully completing elements of the game. There are also challenge stages where you need to pass through a certain amount of checkpoints, gain a particular quantity of stars, or take out a given number of enemies. There is a multiplayer option for the game although it is limited to two player split-screen with no option for online play.

The biggest issue concerning most racing games is how it handles. This problem is even more prevalent since this title relies on the Wii’s motion controls. Gas, brake, and speed boosts are all assigned controller buttons. The controller is held horizontally-long. Steering is controlled by tilting the remote to the left or right. You also need to tilt the remote forward and backwards to manage the truck’s balance during a jump. You can perform a speed boost anytime you want for as long as you want until you overheat your vehicle. The tilt controls can get take a while to get used to. It is easier to control when using the Wii Wheel; although it must be said that the Wii Wheel was not available when this game was released but it works perfectly with the game. There are times where the controls can be a bit frustrating since the game controls are incredibly sensitive. The first instinct you might have when you’re in trouble during a wicked curve is to steer aggressively. The game doesn’t respond well to that; it runs much better with gentler actions. It plays well though but the tilt controls don’t really add much to the experience. It doesn’t feel like the game is any more realistic with the unique controls. It would have been more fun if the game had Gamecube or Classic Controller support because even towards the end of the game, the tilt controls still feel gimmicky.

The Wii sacrificed graphics for controls. It’s not that Excite Truck looks bad but there are times when it looks boring. Some stages like the wooded areas look great but other areas like the deserts look pretty bad. The game runs fast when you’re using a speed boost but outside of that (which is about 80 percent of the time), the game doesn’t feel as fast as it should. It’s not sluggish enough to feel like you’re racing at a snail’s pace but it does hurt the experience a little as you go from racing through trees at breakneck speed to driving around what feels like the speed limit in the middle of a city. The textures look good and the water effects look nice but some of the background objects like bushes and shrubs look pretty ugly. For a Wii launch title, it really doesn’t showcase what can be done with the Wii’s horsepower. It’s not an embarrassment, but it could have been better.

The good news though is that despite lame controls and lackluster graphics is really fun gameplay. The single player experience can be quite exhilarating. It’s not quite as good as Burnout 3, but the game really gives a white knuckle experience. Racing is quite a rush and pulling of stunts and jumps are very satisfying. The only real criticism about the gameplay experience is the rubberbanding in the game. Sometimes you feel like you’re dominating a race and taking out your opponents but they’ll constantly be on your tail. It can be a bit disheartening at times but you won’t think about it much as you’re trying to navigate the game’s extremely fun courses. The courses offer shortcuts which encourages the player to keep an eye open for an open path hiding between a forested area. There are also icons that are littered on the course that modify the course’s terrain (which can make the course more dangerous for your opponents or yourself). There’s also a power-up that makes your truck invincible for a short period of time which allows you to take shortcuts without worrying about crushing your truck. It’s an intense experience that draws you in. The game is a model for the phrase “just one more race” because it is such a rush. The multiplayer is a bit limited though, since you can only play two players but it doesn’t matter much since it is always more fun to share the experience with someone else. There is no online multiplayer since Nintendo did not have any online games until well after the Wii’s launch. Despite this, the content of the game doesn’t feel lacking. The gameplay content is strong enough that the lack of four-player multiplayer or online multiplayer isn’t a huge detriment.

Nintendo could have had a huge problem on their hands with Excite Truck. The Wii’s controls were being called gimmicky before the system launched and playing Excite Truck will not change anyone’s minds. The graphical sacrifice the Wii made to focus on the motion controls makes this game easy to pass on because other rally games like Motorstorm seem like a more visually appealing experience. Excite Truck is able to set aside these two issues because it delivers incredibly solid gameplay and makes for really fun time. It’s an incredible affair that any Wii owner should at least try once because chances are they’ll fall in love with the experience.

La saga Gran Turismo es conocida por infinidad de jugadores en todo el mundo. Tanto los que ya llevan unos añitos en el mundo del videojuego como los que acaban de entrar en él saben que existen unos títulos de conducción que representan uno de los pilares sobre los que se asienta el éxito de las consolas de sobremesa fabricadas por la empresa que inventó el Walkman hace ahora treinta años.

Precisamente con la portabilidad en mente Gran Turismo se reencarna ahora en PSP con un título plagado de luces y sombras que no hace más que dar lugar a interminables debates en los foros de Internet. Chevrolet El Camino

O Chevrolet El Camino foi um cupê utilitário construído pela Chevrolet nos Estados Unidos de 1959 a 1960, com a retomada da produção em 1964 e continuado até 1987. Produzido em resposta ao sucesso do rival Ford Ranchero, era baseado no Chevrolet Chevelle, embora na América do Norte, o veículo é classificado como um caminhão (truck).

De 1978 a 1987, o El Camino foi vendido em quatro modelos: O Super Sport, The Black Knight, A Conquista, e o básico, ele também tinha outros nomes (GMC Sprint e GMC Caballero a partir de 1974 em diante). No México era conhecido como Chevrolet Conquistador.

Em 1969 foi lançado uma versão de alta performance (Super Sport 396) foi lançado junto com o Chevelle, e eram muito semelhantes, em 1970 ele foi lançado ainda mais forte, e por algum tempo era conhecido por possuir o maior motor da linha Chevrolet.

Porem em 1971 foi reduzida sua potência e seu desempenho, juntamente com o restante da linha, graças a alta da gasolina e o controle das emissões, a único mudança sutil foram os faróis duplos em 1971, e a grade, desde essa época as vendas caíram muito e sua saída do mercado aconteceu em 1987.

Hoje vamos falar sobre uma musica conhecida de viciados em “Gran Turismo 2”, a banda é The Cardigans e a música escolhida foi “My Favorite Game”.

A banda foi criada em 1992 embora tenha começado a fazer sucesso somente em 1994 com o lançamento do single “Rise and Shine” e logo depois assinaram contrato para a gravação de seu primeiro CD.

A música de hoje é o tema do jogo “Gran Turismo 2”, e está presente no albúm “Gran Turismo”.

Depois que eu vi esse clipe, sempre que ouço essa musica vem a minha cabeça, eu sei que o El Camino não é o carro do vídeo, mas eu lembro dele…

Há algum tempo, a Federação Internacional de Automobilismo (FIA) e a ACO, que organiza a Le Mans, vêm travando uma batalha por não se entenderem em regulamentações. O principal ponto de atrito é a homologação de veículos gran turismo (GT). O problema é que a FIA sempre muda as regras para tentar igualar o rendimento dos carros, o que afastou muitos fabricantes. Agora, porém, tudo pode mudar.

De acordo com informações internacionais, a partir da próxima temporada os competidores da FIA GT poderão disputar também em Le Mans. Isso significa que várias equipes podem “tentar a sorte” nas 24 horas de prova. Com isso, Maserati, com o MC-12, e Nissan, com o GT-R, poderiam fazer parte da corrida francesa em 2010. De acordo com a revista inglesa AutoSport, isto já é praticamente certo. Só faltam os comunicados oficiais.

In 1997 Sony released one of the greatest simulation games ever, Gran Turismo for the original PlayStation. Over a decade and three console generations and multiple sequels later, this series is on the verge of releasing its 5th edition for the PS3 tentatively on March 31st, 2010. To keep their fans from rioting over the multiple delays that edition has encountered, Sony has released a stripped down version for the PSP simply titled Gran Turismo.

Upon starting it up, I cannot help but notice the extremely long load times and this is just to load up the menus. Next I am instructed to try out the challenge mode to learn the ins and outs of racing. After running a few of these challenges I realize they are nothing more then the old license tests from previous versions, however under a different name. In comparison, the challenges are marginally easier. I received bronze medals on most of them, which is a vast improvement over being unable to finish some of the license tests.
After completing a few levels of these challenges, I decided to begin the career mode, since I had a good grasp on how the game works. After waiting through even more extremely long load times, I got back to the main menu and discovered that this game has no career mode. That’s right, the simulation series that is synonymous with sucking months of your life away while you traverse through the extensive career mode, has removed that aspect from its portable version. What a huge letdown.

The game play is very good for a PSP game. The cars all behave a little differently depending on their performance level and their drive-train type. Controls are decent, using the direction-pad to steer made the cars handle tightly whereas using the analog made them feel loose. Graphically speaking, the game shows room for improvement. Environments and static objects look good but the cars almost look like they are made out of cardboard with car features painted onto it. The sound effects do their job, they blend into the background, not standing out or causing headaches.

Challenge mode is quite fun. The first round teaches you how to judge stopping distances in different types of cars. Then the next few rungs are time trials over a predetermined set of tracks that takes you through a few different types of corners, usually asking the player to find the best route. The advanced levels want you to pass opponents while driving similar sections of tracks, eventually working your way up to the best cars on one full lap.

Three total game modes are included, the above mentioned challenge mode, single player and ad-hoc mode. The single player mode consists of choosing a car, track and race type, race types are either a circuit race or a drift race. Ad-hoc mode is basically the same as single player mode except you ran race against people who are close enough to you for your systems to communicate. You can also trade cars through ad-hoc mode.

Challenge mode is where the load times really start to affect the gameplay. If there were a career mode and load times were the same, I wouldn’t have as much of a problem with them since you would be racing for longer periods of time. When doing the challenges, the average one takes you less then 30 seconds to complete whereas the load times range from 50-60 seconds. This puts your ratio of game time to load time at about 1:2. If you there were a career mode and tracks took a couple minutes to complete one lap this ratio could easily be in the 10:1 range, which still isn’t good but is acceptable for a game of this caliber.
After completing challenges you are awarded credits based on its difficulty and your performance. These credits can be used to purchase cars from the dealership menu. With over 800 cars from nearly 80 manufacturers, you are only allowed to buy from 4 different manufacturers per “day.” I’m not even sure how this game determines a “day.” I completed over 70 of the challenges and a couple single player races and was only on day 18. Then I did one time trial and I was up to day 19. On any given day, depending on the available dealers, you only have about 20-30 cars available to purchase.

This version of Gran Turismo is only available for the PlayStation Portable. The actual racing element is probably the best this system has to offer and lives up to the great simulation that Gran Turismo games have portrayed for years. As for the rest of the game, it falls well short of expectations. The game is only really playable for about 10 hours, the time it takes you to complete the Challenge Mode. Unless you only own a PSP and are craving a simulation racing game, pass-over this title. There are a ton of better simulation racers available for the other consoles.
