Fade in with Beethoven’s 5th building to a crescendo…the scene is the impregnable fortress of the Mighty ‘Noa (well, as far as I am aware no pregnancies have occurred there) standing like a vigilant swordsman over-seeing his kingdom…

The height of the battle for the SCG...

From far and wide they came…five beasts brought in by winged beast from a land beyond the mountainous Bombays and a sixth, lone figure who trekked seven days and seven nights from the ravaged lands of Bishopdale. Their intent was clear; with fire spouting forth from their nostrils and vile gases from their nether-regions these invaders were until this time known only as the Mighty Centurions.

And there to face them, ward them off were the heroic defenders of the land. Simple people, they came from home care, tendering to flocks of sheep, and even a mere grass cutter, but united they stood to stave off said onslaught from these heathen invaders, prepared to spill blood (but not beer) in their quest to be remembered throughout the annals of time as…THE ‘NOA!

Galant leader for Noa - Aussie, resplendent in Friday night dinner attire

Led by Aussie the gruesome Jafas were confronted and communications via hand gesticulations and grunts the Rules of Engagement were laid out. The first battle consisted of the Noa attempting to knock over Centurions castle by hurling rocks in five 8-ball overs, by the end seemed well able to defend their ground smashing 62 away with only two fatalities. Led by the one they called “Token Asian” with 19 and The Indian Master with 16, both undefeated.

Noa then stepped into the breach and quickly showed that local knowledge counts for everything in surpassing such a feeble total and taking the initiative with a surplus of 16, Warriors McCord and Adrian deflecting 27 and 31 retired.

Both sides retired to their quarters for refreshments to supplement their sinewy souls before The Centurions again stepped into a defensive mode they never seemed to recover from in the face of 10 6-ball barrages cunningly rotated by Aussie and while 89 were scored in their second stanza it will forever live through the eons of time that it was never enough to stave off defeat. The Asian and Indian must have felt that their superiors grossly deserted them when with 26 and 27 respectively the rest of their troops were not as forthcoming.

And so it was to pass…a new line of attack was set in place with soldiers of Ryan and Osbourn’s mettle who blasted all feeble attempts to the four corners of the land in reaching the required total with two overs to spare where not even the most opportunistic dismissal of one leader by another could dent their burgeoning fortunes.

A stark memorial for those of the Centurions who failed to get back home...si vis pacem parabellum

It was left for those of lands far north to lick their wounds, running back to the hills from whence they had come and in the process destroying reinforced seating made available in transporting them back to the dark ages.

The death tolls make grim reading for all future challenges;

Mighty Centurions;

62/2 – Lim 19no, Rana 16no, Layton 10, Wenzel 9, Adrian 1/11, and 89/4 – Lim 27, Rana 26, Wenzel 11no, Batten 5, Torrie 1, Heffernan 1/8, Osbourn 1/18, Ryan 1/19, Adrian 1/23

Swannanoa Seconds;

78/2 – Adrian 31 ret., McCord 27, Osbourn 5no, Heffernan 2, Aussie 1no, Layton 1/8, Rana 1/16, and 82/2 – Osbourn 31 ret., Ryan 24 ret., Adrian 6, McCord 5no, Heffernan 4no, Aussie 3

Buoyed by the victory, Swannanoa in its quest to expand and allow civilisation to be meted to the simpler races will look to transit north and weed out the weak and feeble…sometime in the year of Our Lord, 2013…
