So, things have been boring.

I started playing two new games. WoW and Sims 3.

Got them on Black Friday which was a new experience.

Seeing all those people, those lines, and the craziness.

That’s why I like to shop online.

Didn’t even buy anything at WalMart though since my Mom and I were not going to spend 2 hours in line just to check out a puzzle book.

Went to Gamestop afterwards, that’s where we got our games. That wait wasn’t too bad. And we were in and out like nothing.

Although, there was this kid standing in line who thought he knew everything about games. And I kept thinking that he was the reason that gamers were labeled as geeks. Not to mention that more than half his info was totally wrong. -Just hit a nerve-

I like WoW. I’m using the free month as of right now. It’s an interesting game. I underestimated it.

Speaking of subscription. Xbox Live has been out since the third. Don’t want to pay for more time right now. Especially since i’m saving up for an Electric Guitar in January

The other night I was watching the Spike Game Awards online, and I was mostly looking forward to the new Halo Reach trailer. But.

Green Day: Rock Band stole the glory from it. for me at least.

I thought that it was all rumors, but as of right now they’re planning to bring a whole edition to Rock Band featuring the band.

Started Christmas break today for two weeks. If i’m right. I should be going back on the 4th of January.

School has been pretty coastal, meaning easy lately.

Turned in as much of the work that I could before the break so I could have more free time. I only have to get started on my book report and go over my Math Review since my 1010 final is at the end of the semster.

Can’t wait to spend an entire at my district’s GTI as well. I’m going to be a geek.

My last few days here in Victoria have consisted mostly of this.

I really haven’t done anything. Yesterday Girlfriend and I went to the mall and we she shopped for 5 1/2 hours. Which I think is the longest time I’ve ever spent in a mall. It was also the most exercise I’ve gotten in probably the last two months. So tired afterwards. It’s no help that I’ve been fighting off a cold, so today I was even more tired. It made studying almost impossible.

When I was in the mall yesterday, I heard a lot of music from a few years ago. Nelly Furtado, Backstreet Boys, etc. It made me think about the music I listened to growing up. This coupled by watching the most influential moments in music history on MuchMusic a few days ago added to my nostalgia. I was just thinking about how I’ve gotten to that point in my life where all the things I’ve grown up on are now gone from the mainstream lifestyle. The cartoons, the music, TV shows, the people, the hockey players. It’s weird to think that all the hockey players I grew up watching, and idolizing are almost all retired now.

This is the same with music. Bands like Blink 182 and Greenday don’t put out CD’s anymore. Sum 41 has a greatest hits CD out for crying out loud. They’ll be doing reunion tours sooner or later. The punk lifestyle has taken it’s toll on them and they have ceased to exist. Basically. Same with Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake. The list goes on. The generation of music that we grew up is over. Now we’re into the age of autotune, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift and the Jonas Brothers. Sigh I miss my old music.

Yesterday while watching mine and Girlfriend’s new favourite obsession; The Secret Life of the American Teenager (more on this later), I heard a song I hadn’t heard in ages. After struggling and finally watching the scene again and copying out the lyrics, I discovered it was a band that I listened to a long long time ago. Something like 6 years ago. When I was 13. (It was “Unforgettable Night” by And Then I Turned Seven, for those of you who are curious). It makes you think how much your musical tastes have expanded since then. I know mine definitely have. I’m slowly working my way through 8000+ songs on a mission to listen to them all.

While shopping, I saw the book “1000 Recordings to Listen to Before You Die”. And I want it. For Christmas. I want to start a new project. I want to listen to all of those recordings. Or something like that. There’s another book “1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die”. Maybe when I have more time, or when I get the book I’ll figure out what I want to do with it. Maybe I need to write my own “100 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die”. The sad part is I don’t think I’m old enough to be able to come up with 100. It’s most likely going to be a quest to locate a copy of each of those albums, and listen to it, if not own it. Maybe I’m just a dreamer.

Anywho. Secret Life Of The American Teenager. When Girlfriend and I were in Seattle earlier this year, we were in our hotel room watching TV and flipping through channels. We stumbled upon this gem. SLOTAT is about a 15 year old girl who is pregnant (this happens pre-episode 1) and how she grows up in high school with this baby. Well her baby’s father is banging just about every girl in school, and has one particular lover. Well the male half of a hardcore Christian couple wants to have sex, so he finds the baby’s fathers love, who does god knows what. So the female half starts hanging out with the baby’s father, while the baby’s mother gets her own boyfriend, who says he loves her and wants to marry her (after about 4 episodes) and she’s still trying to figure out how to tell her parents, who are splitting up because the baby’s mother’s father is cheating on his wife. We aren’t even half way through the 1st season! It’s so great! It’s like Jerry Springer, Degrassi and 7th Heaven all mixed into one. If you followed any of that and like any of the aforementioned shows, you should definitely give this one a try. So good.

Moving on. If you read this blog often, you’ll know I do CD reviews. I write them for my school newspaper and there was some day a few months ago where I saw someone reading one of my reviews as I walked by, and it made me think about how crazy a university is. (Also, sidenote, why is university the only word I can think of that starts with a vowel and isn’t preceded by “an”?) I was thinking that you walk around campus, and you sit in class and you don’t realize the people around you. Some could be doctors, professors, people who write in your school newspaper, athletes, who knows what! And we all have this level of anonymity because of just the sheer amount of people. I thought it was pretty cool. No one’s ever come up to me and said “Hey you’re the guy that writes those reviews in the Martlet right?” Maybe one day.

Greenday were onto something there I’d say.

Christmas tests tomorrow. I’m fecked. This Patrick Kavanagh stuff is refusing to go into my head. Not so much the general ideas and themes within his poetry, which I actually like, but moreso the techniques he uses to portray this subject matter. I know he consciously used rhyme and alliteration and allusions and all that jazz, but perhaps, just perhaps, he used these because they sounded nice and not because the repeat plosive consonants are actually saying he’s lonely and feels separated and isolated from the community? If I entitled a post ‘Problems with Back Packs’ (note plosive consonants) do you automatically think “Well she’s detached from everyone. How sad.” I think not.

Not that I’m saying his techniques are just coincidental; clearly they’re not. His poetry is too good for that. I’m not a narrow-minded ignorant prick who thinks poetry is a load of rubbish. I just think we’d be better off gaining a really good understanding into what the poetry means and how this is relevant or whatever, instead of going into the teeny tiny minute details. But than again, that’s just my humble opinion.

Biology is after English. I really don’t know how that’s going to go. Our book is a pile of crap, no joke. It doesn’t cover half the stuff that’s actually asked in the exam. One would learn more from the introductions to each experiment in the Lab Manual book than you do from a chapter in my lovely Biology book, which will remain nameless, for now.

I’m hoping I have a good enough general overview of things to get by in Biology, but we’ll have to wait and see how that all turns out. Fingers crossed anyway.

I’m sitting on the couch next to the tree and it’s so pretty. The lights are so small, but yet they give such a warm, glowing light to the room. I have a rule of only allowing red and gold decorations on the tree so it’s really rich looking. I love it.

I also did a bit of a display thing on the mantlepiece. There’s a pretty big stone fireplace in this room with a thick, dark wooden ledge, so I put branches of Christmas tree and a few pieces of holly, along with some baubles and pinecones on it, and it complements the tree pretty nicely, even if I do say so myself.

There are still a lot of boxes strewn about the room, which I’ll have to organise sometime soon, but there’s still a hell of alot of decorations to be put up, and I am kinda busy this week. So maybe someone else would be kind enough to do it for a change. Although, on second thoughts, it probably wouldn’t be satisfactory, so I should just do it.

Yes I am picky regarding decorations. I do want the place to look nice..jeez.

Melbourne (almost) international success stories JET, will be warming up the stage for Greenday as they take to the countries stadiums this December.

So they can rock out with the once great (and now popera) Greenday, JET have announced they will postpone their current headline tour dates at the Metro Theatre in Sydney (currently scheduled for Dec 4) and the Palace Theatre in Melbourne (currently scheduled for Dec 9).

Although Green Day are not the most requested artist we carry, they are popular with a wide range of ages, their ability to engage the listener with songs written with true feeling, and a talent to deliver outstanding tracks time and time again make them irresistable to the ears of millions of fans around the world.

As a Green Day fan myself, following them through the years, I was lucky enough to see them at the o2 a few weeks ago, this was only my second time seeing them, my first being back in 2005 when they made an outstanding appearance at Milton Keynes. The experience was somewhat amazing, but that’s another story for another day!

The next release from the album ’21st Century Breakdown’ is the title track ’21st Century Breakdown’, a classic Green Day track taking you on a musical journey from start to finish. Billie and the band do not fail to deliver in this amazing track, which features a fantastic quiet verse, loud chorus dynamic. I think this is one of Green Day’s best tracks yet. Dare I say, I detect a hint of Beatles like sound in the album especially in the song ‘Last Night on Earth’. I know they will never replicate the sucess of the Beatles, and nor will they ever capture the full sound of the Beatles, but they certainly aspire to them and I would say the Beatles heavily influenced them at some stage. A feeling which is also felt by the blog Mog http://mog.com/MusicRX/blog/1486061 where you can hear ‘Last Night on Earth’

My verdict 9/10 – An excellent tune, with hit written all over it, OK it’s not the stuff we play a lot of, but doesn’t stop us loving it!

When it comes to songs I don’t know which type of songs I like but I am very selective. I may like some songs of the bands but not all. Linkin Park is my favorite band and the band’s lead singer Chester Bennington is my favorite  singer.

Linkin Park

No need of any introduction for this rock band as everyone is aware of their best songs. But still for those unfortunates who don’t know….. Well “They are the best in the business”! Linkin Park is an American metal band. It was formed in 1996. Nu metal and rap are the band’s genres. Their debut album Hybrid Theory was a big success selling more than 4million copies. Well that was enough for a big fan base and moreover their following albums also got the same attention. Till now Hybrid Theory, Meteora and Minutes to midnight are the albums named to their fame and hard work and superb songs. They have won American Music Awards, Grammy Awards, MTV Asia Awards, and much more. The band members are Chester Bennington – vocals, rhythm guitar, Mike Shinoda – vocals, rhythm guitar, samples, keyboards, Brad Delson – lead guitar, backing vocals, Dave “Phoenix” Farrell – bass guitar, backing vocal, Rob Bourdon – drums, percussion, backing vocals, Mr. Hahn – turntables, programming, samples, backing vocals. I like many of their songs but these are the most which I like:

Skillet

Skillet is a rock band which was formed in 1996. Band members: John Cooper – lead vocalist, bassist, his wife Korey Cooper – rhythm guitarist, keyboardist, vocalist, Ben Kasica – lead guitarist, and Jen Ledger – drummer, vocalist. Skillet, Hey You, I Love Your Soul, Invincible, Ardent Worship, Alien Youth, Collide, Comatose, and Awake are the albums till date. I like their guitar work and moreover John Cooper’s voice also impressed me. The band was also nominated for two Grammy Awards. Hard rock, industrial rock, and symphonic rock are the genres of the band. My personal best are:

Godsmack

Godsmack is an American heavy metal band formed in 1995.Band members: Sully Erna (founder and songwriter), Tony Rombola (guitarist), Robbie Merrill (bassist), and Shannon Larkin (drummer). Godsmack, Awake, Faceless, The Other Side, IV, Good Times, Bad Times…Ten Years of Godsmack. Godsmack has been nominated for four Grammy Awards. Alternative metal, heavy metal, nu metal post-grunge, rock are their genres. Faceless and IV were two consecutive #1 albums on the Billboard 200. I love their style of making and executing songs, though I only like their two songs: I stand alone and Straight out of line.

Besides the songs of these bands, I also like the song of Greenday – (Boulevard of broken dreams), Oasis – (Wonderwall), Blue – (One love), Enigma – (Sadness,Gravity of love), A perfect circle – (Rose).

Google Cale Parks and you’ll wonder if he’s human or cyborg. The confusion will hit you when you read the extensive—and impressive—list of bands he’s been a part of in recent years (drumming for Aloha, White Williams, Owen, and Cex, among others), and you’ll question how he has the time/energy/ability to do it all. But multi-instrumentalist Parks doesn’t want to be just another drummer in the experimental synth-pop crowd. Instead, the Ohio native is working hard from his Greenpoint pad to establish himself in the music melting pot of Brooklyn. His advantage: wit. Parks is a funny guy with bulging eyes, pleasant disposition, and, you know, talent. The past three years have seen the 30 year old go from MySpace stalker to tirelessly touring solo act. One night we sat in the backseat of a Zipcar—innocently (Parks is a real gentleman)—outside The Bell House in Park Slope and discussed where he’s at and where he’s going.

You’ve played in so many bands, primarily as the drummer for Aloha. How did the solo venture come about?

How it happened is I made a MySpace page in 2006 with all my solo songs on it and started adding Aloha’s friends, not looking at who they were. I just started click add add friend add friend backspace add backspace and so I asked record label [Stiff Slack] in Japan to be my friend and they were like, “We love Aloha! Send us your stuff.” And I was like, “I don’t have a solo record. Why don’t you put it out? Ha-Ha.” And they were like, “OK.” And that’s how it happened. That’s how I did Illuminated Manuscript. Then I started writing more songy songs and trying to sing.

 What are songy songs?

Do you consider yourself a good singer?

No. It’s hard, I have a baritone voice, so it’s hard to project and then when you strain too hard…I don’t know, this is technical talk.

What are you saying? It’s too technical, I can’t understand it?!

No, no, no! Sometimes you strain your voice and it’s hard to project and blah blah blah. But I just started singing live, it’ll be a year in November, so it’s still a new thing. Singing in your apartment is different. But I like singing. I like to think I’m getting better.

Are you trying to get better?

My mom and sister teach, so I called my mom after the Grizzly Bear show [at McCarren Park Pool] and I was like, “Oh my God, they sing so good. Can you send me some voice training books?” And I did a couple of tours with Passion Pit and Michael [Angelakos] has the most incredible voice ever. Listening to him sing and do his warm ups backstage, it’s not even singing, it’s just weird sound effects and sounds that babies make. Just crazy.

Do you prefer being part of a band or performing solo?

I’ve always been in other bands playing drums. It’s not like they don’t take you seriously because you’re a drummer, but you want to make yourself known. I had other ideas for songs that weren’t appropriate for bands like Aloha.

Are you looking to form a permanent band with Eric Lyle Lodwick and Drew Montag Robinson or just have them as part of your solo act? 

I’m not sure, we’ll see what happens. I don’t want to speak before anything happens, but we’re having a lot of fun playing together. So far, so good. I’m happy with it.

What shows have you done outside of New York?

I did a full US tour with Passion Pit this summer. It was me, them, and Harlem Shakes. I was the first of 3 in an 800-capacity theatre. I played all over solo, but it’s hard to connect with an audience because I’m doing so much stuff on stage. I sing and I play a sampler pad and I play keyboards and I drum and I play cymbals.  

Do you work on the side to support your music?

At APC in SoHo, it’s a French clothing store. I’m not touring till after the winter so I’m just working and only doing local shows for a while.

What’s your favorite local venue to play?

I played at Le Poisson Rouge once and it was amazing. I like Santos Party House.

How early did music factor into your life?

I’ve been playing music all my life, since I was 13 playing in bad bands and garage and all that fun stuff.  My friend David was like, “I have a guitar,” and I’d be like, “Well let’s see what you learned at your guitar lesson this week, David.” “I learned the intro to ‘Dream On’ by Aerosmith.” “Cool, let’s play that.” “And I learned ‘Basketcase’ by Green Day.” “OK, let’s play it.”

Wow, hard stuff.

Yeah, almost as hard as a Weezer song.

So your albums,  Illuminated Manuscript and Sparklace came out in the past three years, are you planning on any new recordings?

I had [To Swift Mars] EP come out in August. I did a remix for [Bear Hands], “What a Drag.” It’s Three 6 Mafia meets Pet Shop Boys with Dylan [Rau]’s voice. Yeah, it’s that good. I have a couple of remixes lined up that I’m working on and I’ve got a bunch of new demos, so we’ll see in what format they’ll come out, if it’s me, my name, or another project, or if I make them into a car commercial.

 Cale Parks and his band are slated to perform at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, on November 14^th.

Auch ihr Auftitt war einfach unbeschreiblich. Shakira, Tokio Hotel, Greenday, Jay-Z und Liona Lewis performten ebenfalls live auf der Bühne. Am lautesten gekreischt wurde natürlich beim Auftritt von Bill und den anderen Tokio Hotel Mitgliedern. Die vier gewannen den Preis für die beste Band. Katy Perry hostete die Show ganz im Lady Marmelade Style in knappen Outfits und Korsagen und moderiere unter anderem von einer Schaukel aus, auf einem Piano und beim Roulette.

The MTV Europe Music Awards took place tonight in Berlin. 20th Anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Fantastic performances by Greenday, Foo Fighters, Beyonce, Jay Z, Shakira, Leona Lewis, Tokio Hotel and U2 performed a concert at Brandberg Gate. Oh and a sultry performance from the host who also got 2 nominations.

Katy Perry hosted for the second year in a row, meaning many many outfits, worn sitting in many different things ex. giant shoe, a gossip swing and martini glass…

Beyonce once again nabbed a few awards! Best Song: Halo, Best Video: Single Ladies, Best Female: cos she clearly is!

Let’s see, who else… Best Male went to Eminem but we only got a video thank you. Also nominated was Jay-Z but he did go home with Best Urban. Best Rock was Greenday. Best New Act Lady Gaga (in her thank you video did she say “best new album award?!). Best Group Tokio Hotel, Best Push Artist Pixie Lott (lovely flowers in her hair for her thank you vid), Best World Stage Performance Linkin Park, Best Alternative Placebo. Best European Act MaNga from Turkey.

Looked like a great (and expensive) night had by all!

Lil Kim kept her pilot style shades on while presenting the award for Best New Act. A Tribute to the late great Michael Jackson, introduced by Jonas Brothers. The Hoff, but of course. Backstreets sang one line of “Backstreets Back” for anyone who may not have noticed.

I don’t feel particularly inspired this week guys. I don’t even have lots of words bouncing around my head like I normally do – I think I am tired as my job finishes tomorrow, and am wining down from a very busy few weeks. As I can’t put digital pen to digital paper without getting a headache (I can’t think of anything to write, eat lots of mints to keep me occupied, get sugar induced headache…), I am instead going to put together an Etsy love list of pretty things that have been occupying my mind this week.

Greenday

I saw Greenday live on Tuesday. It was easily the best gig I have ever been to in my life. They juts kept singing and signing, dragging audience members on stage, encouraging participant, filling the room with pyrotechnics. The were on for over 3 hours and were sensational – and the gig came with a  Black Sabbath tribute in the middle, as we were in Birmingham!
