High Days on Market (DOM) was 616 days, Low DOM was 0 days, Average DOM was 82 days, and Median DOM was 57 days.

There were 28 residential homes that went under Pending or Contingency Contract status in the Greater Greenville area during this period. High list price for these homes was $499,900, Low list price was $18,900, Average list price was $158,882, Median list price was $125,300, and total volume was $4,448,700. High DOM for these Pending and Contingency contract homes was 432 days, Low DOM was 6 days, Average DOM was 97 days, and Median DOM was 57 days.

In October 2009, there were a total of 596 residential single family homes including condo and townhouses sold in the Greater Greenville real estate market. This number is only one home less than the 597 homes that were sold in September 2009, but is 89 homes higher than the 507 homes sold in October 2008. Average price for these sold homes in October 2009 was $157,747, Median sold price was $137,000, and total sold price volume for October was $94,017,472. Average Days on Market(DOM) for October was 95 days, which is 7 days less than 105 days average DOM for September 2009. Greater Greenville includes Greenville, Simpsonville, Greer, Easley, Fountain Inn, Mauldin, Taylors, Travelers Rest, Piedmont, Landrum, Marietta, pelzer, some parts of Spartanburg County, Anderson County, Pickens County, Laurens County, and Oconee County).

Year to date from January 1st to October 31st 2009, there has been 5643 residential single family homes sold in the Greater Greenville real estate market. Average year-to-date sold price was $167,185, Median sold price was $140,000, and the total year-to-date sold volume was $943,423,701. Year-to-date DOM as of October 31st 2009 was 102 days.

As of November 10th 2009, 12 Month average units sold in Greater Greenville was 523 units. Average sold price was $168,633, Median sold price was $141,529, total sold volume was $88,183,958, and average DOM was 104 days.

There were a total of 6657 residential single family homes Actively for sale as of November 10th 2009. This is 88 homes less than the 6745 homes that were active as of October 10th 2009, which means that Greater Greenville inventory was reduced by 88 homes last month. Average list price for the active homes as of November 10th was $263,791, Median list price was $185,000, total list price volume was $1,756,057,797, and average DOM was 154 days.

The decrease in inventory, and average days on market can be attributed to the help $8,000 Home Buyer Tax Credit. This tax credit was supposed to expire on November 30th 2009, but has been extended April 30th 2010. The Home Buyer Tax Credit has also been expanded to move-up buyers who have occupied their home as a primary residence for at least five years. These move-up buyers will be eligible for a $6,500 tax credit.

Pochi mesi fa, di mattina presto ho fatto un sogno molto chiaro prima di svegliarmi. Un pensiero – ricorrente ed insistente – è entrato nella mia mente, dicendo con dolcezza: “Dacci la speranza, così che noi possiamo vivere …”
Assieme a questo pensiero ricorrevano una serie di lucidi immagini:
In primo luogo, mi sono trovato in Africa, in un luogo rurale e desolato, chiaramente impoverito e privo di qualsiasi mezzo di sostentamento. Un bambino, forse di 10 anni di età, si aggirava in questo paesaggio desolato e

minaccioso, affamato e cullando un bambino più giovane morente tra le braccia. E la voce diceva:  “Dacci la speranza, così che noi possiamo vivere …”. Ho pianto quando ho visto che questo e solo questo – la scintilla della speranza dentro l’anima di questo bambino – lo spingeva a vivere. In mezzo alla sofferenza e contro ogni pronostico, solo la forza trainante della speranza lo sosteneva.
Poi ho visto la mia infanzia – a volte disperata e solitaria, non sapendo come avrei sopravvissuto e non sapendo come andare avanti. E questo pensiero si è ripetuto:  “Dacci la speranza, così che noi possiamo vivere …”
E così ho visto che questo era letteralmente tutto quello che possedevo: la scintilla della speranza, da qualche parte negli anfratti della mia anima, facendomi andare avanti – anche oggi.  La speranza.
Poi ho visto tutti coloro che abitano sulla terra ora, in questo momento di grande cambiamento, di sfida e di difficoltà, e questo singolare pensiero si ripeteva:  “Dacci la speranza, che noi possiamo vivere …”. E ho visto che questa era la qualità indispensabile che dobbiamo avere tutti noi: la speranza, che ci porterà avanti insieme al compimento della promessa dell’umanità.

Mentre noi non possiamo vivere solo di speranza, di certo non possiamo vivere senza di essa. Così per tutti i prossimi giorni di prova, di cambiamenti e di trasformazioni della vita sulla Terra, siamo in grado di girare all’interno e sentire, e non dimenticare mai: “Dacci la speranza, così che noi possiamo vivere …”.

I have to admit that I was unsure whether the appearance of Nick Griffin, Leader of the British National Party (BNP) would be a good or bad thing.  I didn’t know whether it would show his Party up to be the racist and homophobic group that I believe they clearly are or whether the publicity and his well-managed style would carry him through.

Watching the scenes outside BBC TV Centre on Wood Lane yesterday afternoon, I was in complete sympathy with the 500-1,000 protesters in their feeling of revulsion at the thought of this man being given such an airing on one of the UK’s most prominent, mainstream political programmes.  I understood the arguments put forward by them as well as by high profile politicians such as Diane Abbott MP and Peter Hain MP who objected to his presence on the show.  However, I am also an advocate of free speech and, as long as there isn’t incitement to hatred, believe that one of our greatest assets as a free country with a free people, is that individuals can express their own views and that they should be allowed to do so.  Therefore, I looked forward, although with serious trepidation, to seeing that particular broadcast of Question Time.

By the end of the show, I was left with a strong sense of relief that the show had gone ahead and that it had been so smoothly run.  I am glad that it went ahead in the format which it did and I believe that the net result is that the BNP were shown up for what they truly are – liars and bigots with no true foundations for any of their extreme beliefs or assertions.

Throughout the programme, Griffin was clearly nervous, with nervous smiles, continuous rubbing of his hands, shaking fingers and extremely defensive body language.  He stated that he had often been misquoted in the media but when challenged was unable to give ANY concrete examples of what was said and how he was misquoted.

I was most heartened to see that members of the panel came equipped with evidence of his and his Party’s previous actions and words, including knowledge of the time when he shared a platform with David Duke, then Head of the Ku Klux Klan, with James W Von Brunn, a white supremicist who killed a security guard in an attack on Washington’s Holocaust museum earlier this year, also present at the event.  As we all now know, Griffin was given a suspended sentence in 1998 for inciting race-hate after distributing holocaust denial literature.  Still, last night he smirked during the question about the horrors of the Second World War, with Dimbleby clearly rattled by this.  He labelled gay men ‘creepy’, stated that if Churchill were alive now he would join the BNP and denied saying that Hitler ‘went a bit too far’.  WHAT a grubby little man with grubby little views!

Nick Griffin and the BNP were last night exposed for what they are – an evil, racist and homophobic Party that does not stand up to scrutiny and, I believe, have no place in a modern, free and civilised society.  But we, whether as political campaigners or as ordinary decent people, have a duty to perform in the light of the recent electoral success of such a Party.   The lesson we MUST learn is that to effectively counter such extremists is by listening and responding to the complaints and worries of the people who vote for them.  It is often said that people who vote BNP do so as a protest.  It is therefore the responsibility of those of us who are mainstream politicians to ask people exactly what their concerns are and to find some way of addressing them.  We cannot afford to ignore the genuine concerns people have on the matter of immigration and we also cannot afford to allow people to feel sidelined from our political system.  Each of us has a duty to vote.  That in itself will stop extremists like the BNP from succeeding.  However, until people actually engage and feel properly engaged in the political system there will continue to be extremist groups that flourish as a result of the gaps left.  The BNP are not remotely British, be it in attitude, outlook, approach or substance.  They are an evil, racist and homophobic Party and our responsibility is to engage ordinary people on the doorsteps, effectively address their concerns, and thereby block the attainments of such extremists as the BNP, at the Ballot Box.

Also during this period, there were 78 residential listings that went under a pending or contingency contract status in the Greater Greenville SC Real Estate market. I am of the belief that people like Nick Griffin and those who have opinions that are similar to his should be given a platform to speak.  Why?  Because if they are allowed to speak in public then they will show themselves for the racist pigs that they are and this in turn leads to them making themselves look like complete and utter cunts.  This method is particularly effective because it is them and them alone who make themselves look ridiculous and so they cannot accuse anyone else of a conspiracy against them.

I was somewhat annoyed by the small minded people that protested against his appearance on BBC Question time.  When will you people realise that publicly dis-inviting him to Question Time would have given the exact publicity he craved.  That he is oppressed by the Government that he must fight in a courageous battle to be recognised for his “legitimate” views.  The quality of the BBC has arguably been going rapidly down hill in recent years but fair play to the person who stood firm and kept Griffin on the Question Time panel.

What’s more, it is fair to say and no doubt anyone that watched tonights Question Time will agree with me, he made himself look like a complete buffoon.  Constantly playing with papers, laughing and generally acting like a child who is way out of his league.  All of the other panelists were superb even if at times Jack Straw was kissing a bit too much please vote for me ass.  I was especially impressed by Bonnie Greer, how marvellous it must be to exude intelligence in the way that she does.

Nick Griffin, get back in your box because you have well and truly been owned.

El “Doctor Joe”, como le llaman sus pacientes, dice que si uno de sus pacientes se queda sin seguro, el seguirá atendiéndolo, sin importar cuánto pueda pagar.

“¿Desde cuándo es aceptable en nuestra profesión decirle que no a alguien porque no tiene dinero?”, pregunta el médico.

Esas convicciones le hicieron a Greer merecedor de la Medalla Presidencial de la Libertad este año. Recibió el honor por la dignidad con que trata a sus pacientes.

En 1984, Greer fundó Camillus Health Concern, una clínica de Miami que anualmente da atención médica a unas 10.000 personas indigentes o de bajos ingresos. También fundó la clínica San Juan Bosco, que trata a inmigrantes y personas de bajos recursos en la Pequeña Habana.

Hace poco fue designado vicedecano de asuntos académicos de la facultad de medicina de la Universidad Internacional de La Habana, posición desde la que pone énfasis en la necesidad de una medicina más ética.

Como es de esperar, Greer tiene profundas convicciones en torno a la reforma del sistema de salud.

“Si nos ocupásemos de todos, tal vez no necesitaríamos una reforma“, afirma.

Por varias décadas, este médico de ascendencia cubana ha atendido a los más necesitados, sin importarle al dinero que podría haber ganado en otros sitios como uno de los principales especialistas en su campo.

“Uno hace lo que hay que hacer. Los pobres son los más enfermos. Merecen nuestra total atención“, sostuvo.

Greer nació en Miami por accidente.

En 1956, su madre vino a visitar familiares. Estaba en el sexto mes de embarazo. Tuvo lo que pensó eran contracciones y fue al hospital Jackson Memorial. Los médicos no creyeron que estuviese a punto de dar a luz.

“HLF”, dictaminó el médico, según el relato de la familia. “Hysterical Latin female (latina histérica)”.

Greer nació tres horas después en una camilla de la sala de emergencias. A las pocas semanas, madre e hijo volvieron a Cuba. Pero no se quedaron mucho tiempo. Cuando Fidel Castro tomó el poder en 1959, la familia escapó y se radicó en la Florida.

Greer pasó su infancia como miembro de una familia de clase media-alta de Miami: asistió a una escuela católica privada, jugó al fútbol estadounidense en la universidad, paseaba en botes los fines de semana en las aguas azules del sur de la Florida.

Cursó estudios en la Universidad de Florida, decidido a ser abogado o tal vez político. No quería ser médico, como su padre.

“Quería cambiar el mundo”, comentó.

Al terminar los cuatro años básicos en 1978, cambió de parecer y optó por la medicina. Su padre se sintió tan orgulloso como sorprendido. “Nunca soñé que sería médico”, aseguró.

Se recibió en una universidad católica de la República Dominicana y regresó a Miami. Su plan era irse al Caribe y a Latinoamérica para atender a los pobres del Tercer Mundo.

Pero descubrió que no tenía que ir demasiado lejos si quería ayudar a los necesitados.

Jackson Memorial Hospital, 1984: Greer, de 28 años, hace un internado en el hospital donde nació.

Un día, los bomberos traen a un individuo que habían recogido en la calle al servicio de emergencia. El hombre tenía tuberculosis. Greer no lo podía creer. “¿Tuberculosis en esta época?”.

Nunca se supo el nombre del paciente, ni si tenía familia o una casa. Falleció en el hospital, anónimo. Greer trató de averiguar algo sobre el paciente y fue a un refugio para indigentes. Alentado por un hermano católico que administraba una clínica para necesitados, comenzó a hacer de voluntario, trabajando dos noches por semana.

“En Estados Unidos parecía que no nos importa si uno sufre, pero si está a punto de morir, nos afanamos por salvarlo (en los hospitales), y después los mandamos de vuelta a la calle a que sigan sufriendo”, escribió Greer en un libro que publicó en 1999, “Waking Up In America” (Despertando en Estados Unidos).

Al poco tiempo, le dijo a una trabajadora social del Jackson, Alina Pérez-Stable, que “quería hacer algo por los indigentes”.

“Se veía que era honesto, apasionado. Identificó un problema y quería resolverlo”, expresó Pérez-Stable.

Greer y Pérez-Stable fundaron Camillus Health Concern, la primera clínica del sur de la Florida que trata exclusivamente indigentes.

Greer se llevaba suministros del hospital para usarlos en la clínica, con el razonamiento de que, de todos modos, los pacientes hubieran terminado en la sala de emergencia.

“Así lo justifiqué. Después rezaba dos Ave María y un Padre Nuestro”, escribió.

Greer pronto comprendió que veía apenas unos pocos de los indigentes de Miami en el refugio. Decidió entonces ir a buscarlos donde vivían, en Mudflats.

Greer, quien es alto y corpulento, no se asusta fácil, pero dijo que lo que vio bajo el pasaje de la interestatal 95 le metió miedo.

Por entonces había unos 6.000 indigentes en Miami y varios cientos buscaban refugio en Mudflats, que quiere decir planicie de barro.

Se le había dado ese nombre por el aspecto que adquiría ese llano si llovía fuerte. Personas que parecían zombies se tiraban en colchones sucios, cocinaban con leños y construían precarias divisiones con lo que encontrasen para tener cierta privacidad.

Estaban desnutridos y abundaban los casos de gangrena y trastornos pulmonares y de hígado.

Apelando a su compasión y un estilo campechano, llegó a conocer a los indigentes y a enterarse de sus problemas. A veces, las diagnosis y el tratamiento eran fáciles: por ejemplo, que usasen calcetines para evitar las infecciones en los pies. Otras, no eran tan sencillas.

Eran los días en que los narcotraficantes regaban la violencia en Miami, con más de 600 asesinatos anuales. La ciudad distaba mucho de ser el paraíso turístico de hoy.

“Como sociedad, hemos ignorado la pobreza urbana por más de 30 años“, declaró Greer al diario Sun-Sentinel en 1991. “No importa cuánto haga uno, el problema no desaparece”.

En la modesta clínica que fundó, de una sola sala, Greer vio a 500 pacientes en el primer año. Una década más tarde, la clínica –que fue la primera de su tipo en Estados Unidos– recibe unas 30.000 visitas, casi todas de indigentes.

Desde que abrió la clínica hace diez años, Greer no ha parado. Puso en marcha la Clínica San Juan Bosco para inmigrantes de bajos recursos de la Pequeña Habana y en la práctica privada que tiene con su padre atiende también a gente de bajos ingresos o sin seguro médico.

El actor Andy García, un amigo suyo, filmó para HBO una película sobre su vida que todavía no fue estrenada.

Greer recibió un premio para “genios” de la Fundación MacArthur, de 240.000 dólares.

Intentó colaborar con el gobierno de Bill Clinton, pero dijo que las cosas no salieron bien.

No quiso aceptar cargos públicos con el gobierno porque no quería mudarse a Washington. Sin embargo, aceptó integrar un Grupo de Revisión Profesional de Salud a cargo de evaluar las políticas de ese campo.

“Gradualmente me di cuenta de que no tendría ningún impacto“, escribió Greer. “A menudo no se consideraban los elementos más importantes” porque algunos miembros del panel estaban al servicio de “la gente influyente y el dinero”.

Frustado porque “los HMO (planes de seguro en los que el paciente tiene que buscar opciones de tratamiento generalmente dentro de una red) y las organizaciones con fines de lucro llevaban las de ganar”, renunció. A partir de esa experiencia, se mantuvo también al margen del debate en torno a la reforma de salud que promueve Barack Obama.

“No me meto en la política”, recalca.

Incluso hoy, después de recibir la Medalla de la Libertad, sigue criticando las compañías de seguro y el impacto que tienen en el sistema de salud.

“Es un escándalo”, afirma. “¿Es aceptable que un plan de seguro médico se niegue a tratar un mal pre-existente? El infierno se va a llenar de gente de las aseguradoras. Espero que disfruten el dinero que están ganando”.

En la actualidad, Greer capacita médicos en la Universidad Internacional de la Florida. Hace poco llevó a un grupo de estudiantes a los barrios más pobres de Miami.

Además, sigue haciendo visitas a la medianoche a pacientes moribundos. “Uno trata de escucharlos, de reconfortarlos, de aliviar el sufrimiento”, indicó.

Stargate Universe Premiered a couple of days ago (02/10/2009) and as i am in the UK i have to wait until the 6th but i have found another way to see it. I have sat through the 2 part episode a couple of times, 1 to watch it, 2 to look at the details and the 3rd i took notes so i can write this. From this point on the could be spoilers, if you have not seen Stargate Universe of you are waiting to see it I would suggest that you leave and come back once you have seen it, but there is nothing stopping you from reading on.

The Destiny

The episode started with  a ship dropping out of FTL (Faster Than Light) and the SGU logo, we then pass over the ship, this is similar to the starting of Atlantis, then the shot changes to the interior corridors and you get a feel for how big the ship is, the camera then stops at the gate room and the gate is spinning and it then activates. After the activation of the gate Lt. Scott is throw clear from the gate.

This starting for the show is different form anything that we have seen it starts in the middle of the story which is a good way to start a show.

the way that every one and every thin came through the gate is interesting as they come through and are thrown across the gate room. once Colonel Young has com through the gate closes and we discover that hes is Injured, Badly.

Then we are looking at a game being played and it is Eli playing it, he solves the problem in the game and the game then restarts, and Eli seems to be rather annoyed by this. the day after O’Neill and Rush arrive at the door, they seem to know allot about Eli, we then find out that the game is called “Prometheus” and the problem is for the “Dakara weapon” and i like the call back to SG1 there. they beam out Eli and he is on the observation deck of the U.S.S. George Hammond and here Eli is given some information and we learn about Eli’s Mother.

Daniel Jackson

The use of Daniel for the teaching of the Stargate and all other things Related is a nice touch. the merging of the Audio of the tapes is a good feature as it is showing that there is allot of information being given and Eli is loosing concentration and becoming confused.

then we meet Chloe Armstrong in the Hammond’s Mess and she seems to know a bit about Eli as well.

Rush, Eli and scott on the observation deck

Back on to the ship and it seems that Rush had disappeared and Eli and Scott are looking for him, when they find him he is on an Observation deck and he makes a comment about the Ship,

“The design is clearly Ancient in the truest scene of the word” – Dr Rush

The Life support then fails and the title of the episode is then evident as they are running out of “Air”.

We then see something of Colonel Young’s past as he is arguing with someone, who appears to be his wife, about his reassignment, young then collapses and we see TJ looking over him and tending to him.

We are back to the Hammond and it is dropping out of HyperSpace over Icarus and then we have the Sex scene, it was a brave choice to have this in the show and it is showing that it is a very different to SG1 and Atlantis, the show could have done without it but it was important in the showing of its difference.

Senator Armstrong is introduced to the Base Military  and Rush attempts to dial the 9 Chevron Address but it dose not work, this makes Rush annoyed.

The Whiteboard

Eli makes a point about Rush using a whiteboard when there are computers everywhere on the base. I like this as when rush erases the equations from the board Eli starts saying “Save” over and over.

There seems to be a distrust of Rush as when he is trying to fix the Life support Eli comments that rush dos not know what he is doing and then Msgt. Greer aims a weapon at rush.

Cater and young think that the ships that are attacking Icarus Base are of the Lucien alliance which is another call back to SG1.

during the attack Eli makes a comment that the gate address could be a code and that the Earth Point of Origin is needed to dial, this is an idea that i had and i was pleased that i was correct about this.

The journey of the Destiny

We then see the course that the ship took and this took one of my theory’s out, i believed that the ship was sent from the original Galaxy where the Alterans and the Ori Originated but it turns out that it was from the Milky-Way and it took a course through Pegasus. this is a nice part to the plot as you discover the history of the ship and that it has traveled along way.

after jack and same have a conversation and discover that they never came back to earth Rush goes of to a secluded area of the ship and opens a case and there is a device that look’s earth made, we then find out that it is a communication terminal due to the fact that there is one on earth with a Communication stone on it and Dr Lee is sitting by it and this is who Rush uses to talk to people on earth, with the new design of the Communication terminals it means that they are able to stop the connection better that in the past.

Senator Armstrong Sacrifices himself to save everyone on the ship by sealing a section of damaged ship that can only be sealed from the damaged side. this is showing that the show is much darker that SG1 and Atlantis and this was important in showing this.

The discovery of the ship’s name towards the end of the episodes is a nice touch as it gives hope to the people that are around Rush that hear it.

Ticking Clock

at the end of the episode the gate dials a planet that Rush clams is one with what they need. the discovery of the clock is important as it means that there is a time restraint on how long that they can stay on the planet before the destiny leaves.

the episode ends on a cliffhanger where the team embark to the planet and the episode ends when rush enters the gate. I am going to have to wait for the next episode to find out what happens but i can say that the show so far is really good.

The interchange between Muslims and Europe has a long and complicated history, dating back to before the idea of ‘Europe’ was born, and the earliest years of Islam. There has been a Muslim presence on the European continent before, but never has it been so significant, particularly in Western Europe. With more Muslims in Europe than in many countries of the Muslim world, they have found themselves in the position of challenging what it means to be a European in a secular society of the 21st century. At the same time, the European context has caused many Muslims to re-think what is essential to them in religious terms in their new reality.

In this work, H.A. Hellyer analyses the prospects for a European future where pluralism is accepted within unified societies, and the presence of a Muslim community that is of Europe, not simply in it. He draws upon his academic expertise in a variety of disciplines, including sociology, politics and religious studies, in order to give the reader a thorough theoretical backdrop. Uniquely, he combines this knowledge with his background as an independent scholar engaged in policy networks and institutions. The result is a work that has drawn critical acclaim from some of the most noted scholars in the West on a very important topic.

This is the first of a series of events that will be held on the themes of Dr Hellyer’s book in 2009/10 in Europe, North America, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. I was planning to write up a nice long article about Greer’s Century Park course, but then someone who knows a lot more helped me out.

Our sport is very lucky to have people who are truly passionate about making it work.  Nathan Murphree is just such a person.

I hit him up for a quick history of that course’s redesign by e-mail and what follows is his response :

“I had been working at Ryan’s when the original course was being put in. I would go there on my lunch break everyday to see how it was progressing. Suffice it to say, once completed, I was let down. I remember going out there for the first time, seeing some of the Easley players out as well, and they left before they could even play 9 holes, as the layout was just horrible.

Later on, my wife and I were out disc golfing with a friend of mine in Greenville, and we had discussed the need for a more recreation based disc golf club. We had been seeing the local disc golf clubs leaning more and more towards professional, sanctioned play, as well as the local courses having holes pushed further and further away. We decided that the recreational community needed more events, and a course that had an Intermediate level of difficulty.

I called up Ann Cunningham from Greer Parks and Recreation, and asked her to meet me out at the course to walk it over, and discuss what can be done to improve it. I also explained to her that I would like to run events out there to drum up interest, and raise some funds so whatever is needed could be paid for. She was new at Parks and Rec, but liked the idea. She requested I wait 30 days so if any other local clubs wanted to approach her about it, they would have time. She did not receive a single phone call or e-mail.

From that point on, Danielle (my wife) and I started going out to the course with tools and began defining fairways, picking up debris, and clearing out brush. I knew the person I needed the most help from was Bill Ball, so I got in touch with him, and he came out and put in some steps on a few fairways. Him and his wife Carla then helped us clear out some large trees that had come down, as well as assist with other cleanups we were doing. Bill and Carla were instrumental in making the old course playable.

Once we had a playable course, I met with Ann again, as well as Bruce Viehman (Parks and Rec Grounds Manager) and discussed what we needed, and plans to run a tournament on April 14^th, 2007, “The Iron Man”. Parks and Recreation kicked into high gear and got us custom stamped mini’s, as well as printed out scorecards that rivaled that of the USDGC (United States Disc Golf Championship). All in all we had 23 players show up, which raised the club a little over $100.00. We then kicked of our doubles season, running from May 17^th to October 14^th.

Towards the end of our doubles season, Ann informed me that she had gotten funding from Columbia, SC to install a new course, and also that she had approached Innova to redesign, who had been out there a few times already. I ran a “Farewell To Arms” event in November, which unfortunately had less than 4 people show, and in December, the baskets were removed. I lost my job with Ryan’s, and moved to Raleigh, NC. It was less than 3 months later, I was hospitalized and decided to move back to Greenville, SC.  In Frebruary, I met with Ann again, and she gave me the breakdown. They were having major issues getting tree’s cleared, which was holding everything up.

Sometime after, Ann hired Mike Carroll to oversee the project. Mike kicked it into high gear,  and by Februrary of this year, the entire course was completed.  In March, I ran the 2^nd Annual Iron Man Tournament, with Parks and Recreation purchasing 50 custom stamped Innova Groove discs for the first people to sign up. We had 33 players show. After the tournament, we started doubles back, and ended it on August 22^nd. We also ran a charity tournament for a family member of mine who was diagnosed with 4^th stage pancreatic cancer, called the Chains of Hope. Fade Gear and Innova contributed prizes for the players, which helped our cause greatly. During this whole time,  Bill and Carla came back and throughout the year built benches, trashcans, and helped us move some bridges around to adapt to the new layout. We also had assistance from Kraig Scott, and Kennen Coviello.

I know that seems pretty long-winded, but that is in a nutshell, how it all happened!”

We appreciate it Nathan!  Century Park is one of my favorite upstate courses now.  Things like this don’t just happen, we have to make them.

Year to date, from January 1st 2009 to August 31st 2009 there were 4371 homes sold in the Greater Greenville Real Estate market. Average sold price was $167,559, Median sold price was $140,000, and total volume was $732,400,061. The average DOM was 101 days.

As of September 10th 2009, there were 6893 units available for sale. The average list price for these listings was $268,632, Median list price was $189,900, and total volume was $1,851,679,000. The average DOM was 150 days.

Currently, I’m in Atlanta for the PSO (pre-service orientation) that all Americorps volunteers have to go through for their year of service to America. Getting here today was not easy: never mind that harrowing morning in Greer, involving food stamp applications, utility applications, and other pieces of paperwork that needed to be taken care of before I arrived in Atlanta. The worst, though, was what took place at the Greenville/Spartanburg airport on the way to the Empire City of the South. First, there was a call for volunteers to get off the plane for a later plane in exchange for a voucher. I raised my hand to volunteer, but they decided to roll call the names of the last passengers who checked in at the terminal instead. THEN, the airline decided to keep us at the tarmac for the next three hours in the plane before finally taking off. Needless to say, there were a LOT of unhappy people on the plane. I did meet an interesting guy, from Miami. His name was George, the Cuban, as he called himself, and we spoke in Spanish for our conversation. From what I gathered, he left Cuba right before Castro came to power in 1959. Then he gave me his phone number and told me to look him up if I ever was in Miami and his wife Nancy would make me some good Cuban food. I thought he was a good guy.

 Once I got to Atlanta for the PSO, I proceeded to eat some dinner with the other VISTA volunteers and then watch an informal presentation on the VISTA program’s history. It made me wonder about my citizenship in America and more importantly, how that in itself relates to the wonderful and benevolent power behind the Revelation. Instead of thinking about America, I imagined the world being one country, and wondering what I would need to do in this lifetime to be worthy of my citizenship in this world. It has been said by Baha’u’llah that “the world is one country and mankind its citizens.” Similarly, Muhammad (pbuh) said that “”O People! Your God is one; your father is one; no preference of an Arab neither over non-Arab nor of a non-Arab over an Arab or red over black or black over red except for the most righteous. Verily the most honored of you is the most righteous.” These words by the Manifestations of God will resonate with me when I go over to the Martin Luther King Memorial Site tomorrow to say some prayers for a man who has done so much for this world. Needless to say, I came to the scary realization tonight that there are a lot of hopes that are being placed upon me: both by the state of South Carolina and by the good people of Greer to make good on their hopes and aspirations of me for the next year in the Upstate region.

 After the PSO opening orientation, I strolled across the Emory University campus quietly contemplating my year of service, along with the anticipated return of my MCAT scores, which were a distraction from the larger thoughts that were occupying my head at the moment. At 10:00 tonight, I checked my MCAT scores and couldn’t believe it: I was not going to be taking the MCAT again as I attained a score that was beyond my wildest dreams (well, not really, but good enough to where I would not be retaking). Then I made a list of what to include in my personal statements. And then, I snapped out of Med school application mode and quietly contemplated the power of prayer (for more on this, please click here—this sums it up better than I ever could).

 Tomorrow will promise more of the same hum drum of pre-service orientation, all of which includes lecture after lecture from different people within the organization and sister organizations (sounds like yet another experience I had before in my life….yippee). Its not that I’m terribly excited about the prospects of this, but rather, mostly exhausted from all of the moving around that I’ve been doing in anticipation of my service to humanity before actually serving. Maybe I just need life to slow down a tad bit instead of going at 100 miles per hour all the time. But for now, I shall contemplate more on the power of prayer and what the idea of prayer means to me (my mom lectured me on it tonight over the phone and said that praying is one of the hardest things that we have to do—we’re so vulnerable in the act of praying and that takes great effort on our parts) and how soothing it is once we can pray.
