Tom Brady has reportedly signed a three-year contract extension with the New England Patriots. The deal will keep Brady in New England until 2017 and pay him just $27 million for the three extra years.

Gresh is joined by Mike Flynn for today’s show, and the former Super Bowl champion has his take on Brady restructuring his deal.

Gresh says there’s a big difference between restructuring and a ‘home-town discount’.

BOSTON (CBS) – Over the weekend, the Boston Bruins dispatched the Panthers 4-1 in Florida as they continued their five-game road trip.

The Bruins went 4-1 on the trip, but something in that Sunday afternoon tilt against the Panthers made forward Milan Lucic pretty upset.

Lucic was cross-checked from behind by Panthers defenseman Mike Weaver, sending him head-first into the boards. The refs missed it (or chose not to call it), and Lucic took matters into his own hands. He let Weaver know he didn’t appreciate the hit with a cross-check of his own, and got a few jabs in when Weaver fell to the ice.

While there was no penalty on Weaver, Lucic received two-minutes for cross checking and another two minutes for roughing. He let the refs knew they missed the call on his way to the box, and was then slapped with a 10-minute game misconduct.

The Bruins killed off the penalties, but Lucic said it was pretty clear the officials missed one.

“Obviously it wasn’t a fair play. I even watched the video and I don’t see how (a penalty) wasn’t called,” Lucic told 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Gresh & Zolak. “Looking back, it is what it is. I reacted the way that I did and I felt there was nothing wrong with the way I reacted. Anyone in my case would have been upset as well.”

Though he wanted to get his point across — to both Weaver and the officials — Lucic knew not to take it too far or his teammates would be the ones paying the consequences.

“If you do that too much, if you cross the line you risk suspension and you really put your team down. That’s what crossed my mind when I retaliated; I didn’t want to cross the line and risk suspension,” he said. “So I tried to do something where I was going to get a penalty but I wanted to make sure he knew I didn’t like what he did to me.”

“As far as the non-call, it is what it is,” said Lucic. “Referees make mistakes like everyone makes mistakes. They’re a big part of the game, and as players we have to work with them instead of against them.”

“But I’m going to play my game. If I don’t like something I’m going to react,” he said.

Because of that, it’s not hard to see why some teams fear playing the physical Bruins. And while their physical play may have the referees calling games a little different, the Bruins won’t shy away from it.

“We have a big strong team, and we’re going to play the way we play because it’s successful,” said Lucic. “If – that’s if –we do get singled out on penalties, our PK has done a good job, especially this year. We play good, hard-nosed hockey and do our best to stay in the rules. It’s a physical sport and no one says you can’t be physical.”

“It’s proven that it works, and it works for us, so that’s the way we’re going to play.”

Also, how happy is Lucic to have Nathan Horton skating next to him again this season? And does Dougie Hamilton really not know who “The Muppets” are? Find out as Milan Lucic joins Gresh & Zolak:

Gresh and Zo go “no huddle” around the NFL, with help from Hardy, commenting on everything from the NFL Combine to some NFL rumors.

1. The football world was focused on Manti Te’o on Saturday. Te’o took to the podium in front of hundreds of media members and was asked numerous times about his “girlfriend” Lennay Kakua. Te’o did shed a little light about how it’s affected him.

2. Te’o's former teammates are catching shrapnel from NFL teams. Friday night at the start of one NFC team’s 15-minute interview with Tyler Eifert – the former Notre Dame tight end who is considered a possible first-round selection –the team’s head coach asked Eifert if he had a girlfriend and then inquired if she was real. Everyone in the room had a good laugh.

3. Chiefs coach Andy Reid also spoke this weekend and was asked about possibly trading the number one overall pick in the draft. Rumors around the league also say Kansas City has found their quarterback, reportedly agreeing to a trade with the San Francisco 49ers that will send Alex Smith to the Chiefs.

4. LSU defensive end Sam Montgomery has been accused of being ‘too honest” at the combine. During one of his press conferences he said, “You know, some weeks when we didn’t have to play the harder teams, there were some times when effort was not needed. But when we had the big boys coming in — the Bamas or the South Carolinas — I grabbed close to those guys and went all-out.”

Montgomery went on to discuss “hundreds of dollars” in bets made with teammate Barkevious Mingo, including one for $5,000 that the LSU defensive end will be drafted higher.

Draft insider Tony Pauline reported late Saturday that LSU’s coaching staff has been “slamming” Montgomery to NFL teams.

5. Jim Harbaugh was asked about what could turn him off from a prospect, and he didn’t just give the stock answer:

“Oh, somebody that’s not truthful. I mean, that’s big to me. I’m a big fan of the Judge Judy show. When you lie in Judy Judy’s courtroom, it’s over. Your credibility is completely lost. You stand no chance of winning that case. So, I learned that from her. And, it’s very powerful, and true because if somebody does lie to you, then how can you ever trust anything that they ever say after that?” said the head coach.

6. Finally, the guys enjoyed some of Mike Mayock’s highlights from the weekend.

BOSTON (CBS) – Re-alignment is set to hit the NHL.

CBC’s Elliotte Friedman created a stir over the weekend, giving out the details on what the NHL will likely look like next season. There will be two eight-team “Eastern Side” conferences and two seven-team “Western Side” conferences, with a wild-card scenario being discussed for the Western conferences.

Kalman: PK Saves Day For Bruins In Florida

Here is a look how the four conferences will reportedly look:

Eastern Side

Conference 1

Carolina
Columbus
New Jersey
New York Islanders
New York Rangers
Philadelphia
Pittsburgh
Washington

Conference 2

Boston
Buffalo
Detroit
Florida
Montreal
Ottawa
Tampa Bay
Toronto

Western Side

Conference 3

Chicago
Colorado
Dallas
Minnesota
Nashville
St. Louis
Winnipeg

Conference 4

Anaheim
Calgary
Edmonton
Los Angeles
Phoenix
San Jose
Vancouver

So what are divisions now would be their own mini-conferences come next season. It would change the entire playoff picture, and could lead to some interesting Stanley Cup showdowns. Those details are still being ironed out, and the NHLPA still has to approve it – something they did not do in 2011 when the owners first brought their re-alignment proposal.

From a Bruins standpoint, they’ll now have to face off against the Detroit Red Wings four times a season and most likely again to advance in the playoffs. But, it means four of the “original six” teams are in Boston’s conference, making for some great old-time hockey matchups.

98.5 The Sports Hub’s Gresh & Zolak discussed the proposed changes on Monday. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section!

Gresh and Zo go “no huddle” around the NFL with help from Hardy commenting on everything from names

Gresh and Zo go “no huddle” around the NFL with help from Hardy commenting on everything from names that intrigue them in this coming NFL Draft and what the best strategy is for the Patriots in this offseason.

1. Richard Sherman and Darrelle Revis had a little tweet beef. Revis took to Twitter on Wednesday and took a couple of shots at Sherman saying, “I never seen a man before run his mouth so much like a girl,” that Sherman is “putting my name in his mouth to get notoriety.” He went on telling Sherman, “Sit down, young pup and wait your turn.”

It’s not clear exactly what set Revis off today, but Sherman has said in several media appearances that he considers himself to be the game’s premier shutdown corner, and he also posted an image on Twitter comparing his own stats with Revis’ implying that he has been the superior player.

And when Sherman saw Revis’ tweet today, he couldn’t help but respond saying on Twitter, “My season stats looking like Revis career stats.”

2. Jeff Howe says the Patriots will meet with Kyle Arrington’s reps at the Combine this week. Do you want to see him back in New England next year?

3. Joe Flacco could get franchised by the Ravens. If you’re a team in need of a quarterback would you give up two first round draft picks to sign him?

4. Safety was a big issue at the Competition Committee Meetings this week. The biggest potential rule change may be the way helmets are used in the future.

Currently players can be penalized for hitting defenseless receivers and hitting players above the neck with the crown of the helmet. One possibility is expanding the rule to make it illegal to target any player on the field and any body part with the top of the helmet.

If the new rule is adopted it would be expanded to cover running backs and receivers dipping their heads and using the top of the helmet to drive the pile backward.

5. It’s early, but name one guy you’re intrigued by in this year’s NFL Draft.

6. The guys discuss these tweets from Adam Schefter:

NFL is proposing to overhaul its calendar, pushing back the combine to early March, free agency to early April, and the draft to early May.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) February 22, 2013

Idea of overhauled calendar is to lengthen NFL off-season and make football relevant over longerperiod with one big event each month.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) February 22, 2013

Under proposal, all NFL teams also would kick off training camp on same summer day, making it the official launch of the football season.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) February 22, 2013

The NBA trade deadline came and went on Thursday, and the Celtics didn’t “blow it up

The NBA trade deadline came and went on Thursday, and the Celtics didn’t “blow it up” like many had thought — or hoped — they would.

Yahoo! Sports’ Marc Spears joined 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Gresh & Zolak on Friday, and said there really weren’t many “blockbuster” trades in the works on Thursday. The Celtics and Clippers were discussing a trade for Kevin Garnett, but it never got to the point where they Celtics had to ask Garnett to waive his no-trade clause.

“I think if the Clippers pushed harder, the KG deal would have had a better chance of happening,” said Spears. “But the Celtics weren’t going up to KG without the Clippers being all the way in the pool. And the Clippers never fully amerced themselves in ‘we want KG.’”

The Celtics did make a small move, acquiring guard Jordan Crawford from the Washington Wizards for injured guard Leandro Barbosa’s expiring contract and 34-year-old center Jason Collins. In Crawford, the Celtics get a solid scorer, but a player that needs to improve his overall game.

“I do like this team a lot better with Jordan Crawford. I wish Rondo was healthy to play with him, but hes the scorer this team needs,” said Spears. “He’s a guy that helps Paul (Pierce) and KG out because he can carry a lot of the load scoring-wise, and be eager to do it. He can be the guy running around all those screens the way Ray (Allen) used to.”

“I think they’ll really grow to like Jordan Crawford, especially with the guidance of Doc,” he said. “He’ll slow him down a little bit and make him more of an all-around ball player and less And-1.”

The guys discussed Pedro Martinez working with pitchers, can he help pitchers in a way that the team wants? Pedro has been working with Daniel Bard, who had a rough season last year. Do fans need to be patient and hold their criticisms while he works to fix things?

They also hit on lack of depth at first base and in the outfield, as well as some of the young talent floating around camp. Are there any young guys that are standing out?

Despite football being over, Gresh, Zo and Hardy went ‘no-huddle’ Thursday on a wide variety of sports stories.

Hardy fires off questions rapid-fire and plays some audio from the the world of sports touching on everything from a NHL player getting cut by a skate to a murder allegation from a former Olympian.

1. The guys started with a little college hoops. Number six Syracuse lost to UConn on Wednesday night 66-58. ESPN’s Andy Katz asked Jim Boeheim a question in the postgame press conference and Boeheim had a very interesting response.

2. Next up was the NHL and Bruins public enemy number one, Matt Cooke. Cooke was involved in another on ice incident Wednesday night when the Penguins hosted the Senators. The guys took a listen to the Ottawa radio call of what happened to defenseman Erik Karlsson.

3. On To the NBA, Magic big man Hedo Turkoglu was suspended 20 games for testing positive for PED’s and he tried to explain himself.

4. The Spurs and Cavaliers played a tight one on Wednesday night. Cleveland was up 95-93 and San Antonio had the ball with the clock running down. The guys took a listen to the Spurs’ play-by-play announcer Bill Shoening.

5. Lastly there’s a bizarre story involving and Olympian. Paralympic superstar sprinter Oscar Pistorius is being charged with the murder of his girlfriend who was shot inside his home in South Africa. Early reports were that she might have been mistaken for a burglar, but police say that report didn’t come from them.

Gresh and Zo started off Thursday’s show talking some Celtics basketball as the NBA heads into it’s All-Star Weekend. The C’s are now 8-1 without Rajon Rondo and are gaining the respect of the league as they continue to win games short-handed.

Can the team continue to have this success as the season goes on?

BOSTON (CBS) – Boston Bruins defenseman Andrew Ference joined 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Gresh & Zolak on Wednesday, fresh off a great comeback bid against the New York Rangers on Tuesday night.

The Bruins faced a 3-0 hole against the Rangers entering the third period last night, but scored three-unanswered to swipe a point from the contest. For the season, the Bruins are outscoring opponents 15-5 in the third period.

“I think our team has been good with consistency. You look at the last few years the way we play games is that our first period should look a lot like our first period – the intensity and physicality of it,” said Ference. “That’s one of our strengths; that over the course of the game we can wear teams down. If we’re playing the right way we can chip away at what they have to offer. By the time you get to the third you have defensemen that are maybe beat up and a little tired and worn out. If we’re consistent in playing the way we can, we’ll get our chances and be able to bury.”

Chiarelli On Toucher & Rich: Bruins ‘Compete Level’ Very Consistent

The Bruins continue to struggle on the power play though, going 0-for-4 Tuesday night to drop to 9.3-percent on the season — tied for 28th in the NHL. Even more eyebrows were raised Tuesday night as the Bruins scored a pair of 6-on-5 goals, making it even more frustrating that they can’t find the back of the net on 5-on-4′s.

While Ference doesn’t play on either of Claude Julien’s power play units, he still wasn’t spared the questioning on Wednesday.

“The power play can turn into a weird thing. We’re a great 5-on-5 team, and you saw on the 6-on-5 how we were chasing down pucks and winning battles; it was controlled chaos almost. Sometimes you can get into the power play and you’re too controlled; you’re too worried about getting the perfect setup and doing something real pretty, whereas in the 6-on-5 the clock is ticking and you need a couple goals,” explained Ference. “If there’s a lane you’re throwing it at the net, not looking for the perfect play. That’s probably the biggest thing; we’re not the type of team that can tick-tack-toe and make pretty plays like Detroit. It is more of a chaotic crash and bang-the-puck-in team.”

Despite the issues on the man-advantage, Boston is off to an 8-1-2 start and have the second-most points in the Eastern Conference at 18 (New Jersey is first with 19). One thing the Bruins can tout is a very close group in their locker room, one that has been together the last few seasons. Ference believes that is a huge advantage for them, especially in this lockout-shortened season.

Hurley: B’s Lose Season Series To Rangers, But Hope For Playoff Meeting Very Much Alive

“I think one of our biggest advantages over a lot of teams is we’ve had the same group of guys for a while now, including the coaching staff. It gets rid of a lot of the BS in rooms where you can’t look a guy in the eye and know what he’s going to offer you. I think everyone is past that on our team and knows what everyone expects from you,” said Ference. “You can be brutally honest with each other, and we’ve always had a group of guys that knows you’re going to lose some games. But at the end of the loss you should still somewhat be proud of some things you did that are positives. That’s the thing with our team; we have a proud bunch of guys that win more often than not, but even in losses we’re not going to beat ourselves up as long as the effort was there and we put in all we could.”

BOSTON (CBS) – There are reports out of Minnesota that say the Vikings will look to trade rece

BOSTON (CBS) – There are reports out of Minnesota that say the Vikings will look to trade receiver Percy Harvin this off-season.

Should that be the case, the New England Patriots will likely be one of the many teams interested in his services.

The 24-year-old Harvin is a gifted receiver who caught 62 passes for 677 yards and three touchdowns over nine games in 2012, in addition to averaging 36-yards on his 16 kickoff returns — including one touchdown. Harvin finished the season on the IR with an ankle injury, but it’s a reported blowout he had with head coach Leslie Frazier late in the season that has the Vikings wanting to send him out of town.

The Patriots worked the Florida product during the 2009 NFL Draft combine, but the Vikings scooped him up with the 22nd-overall pick in the draft. Bill Belichick reportedly liked Harvin coming out of college, thanks in large part to his buddy Urban Meyer being in charge at Florida, but it’s not hard to see why Belichick felt that way. Harvin has 20 touchdowns and 280 receptions over his first four seasons, with four more rushing touchdowns and five kickoff returns for a score as well, and would be a great addition to the New England offense should they choose to part ways with Wes Welker.

But the big question with Harvin is, what will he cost? Though the Vikings are sour on the receiver, and he only has one-year left on his rookie contract, Minnesota will still likely command a hefty bounty in return which would involved multiple early-round draft picks.

The Patriots currently have just five selections in the upcoming draft, so the question would be how much are they willing to part with for a potential one-year rental.

Other questions surround Harvin’s health and off-the-field issues. He also reportedly had moments with former Minnesota head coach Brad Childress, and in addition to the ankle injury, battled migraines early in his career that cost him a few games here and there. The off-the-field issues could be solved in a winning atmosphere, Tom Brady throwing him the ball instead of Christian Ponder, and the handful of former Gators the Patriots have on their roster. But the injuries could be a concern if the Patriots are looking for Harvin to become their over-the-middle threat and fill Welker’s shoes in the future.

Acquiring a player like Harvin, no matter what the cost, would inject the Patriots receiving core with youth, and give Brady another dynamic target. He would also help in the return game, a place the Patriots have lacked mightily over the last few seasons.

Right now it’s all just speculation (would you expect anything else from the NFL in mid-February?), but until the Vikings say they’re holding on to Harvin or actually trade him, rumors of him landing anywhere, including the Patriots, will be out there.

With Tuesday being “Truck Day,” it’s only fitting that CBS Sports’ Baseball insider Jon Heyman joined 98.5 The Sports Hub Gresh & Zolak to talk a little baseball.

Red Sox GM Ben Cherington said David Ortiz, who missed the last three months of the season last year with an Achilles injury, is expected to be ready by opening day. But should Red Sox fans be concerned with the 37-year-old Ortiz’ health?

“I’d be pretty concerned about it. It’s a very large man with a foot injury; those tend to take time as we saw last year,” said Heyman. “They’re giving what seems like a loose deadline of early April, and we’re still in early February. I was a little surprised to hear it’s even stretching to April.”

“He should be ready by opening day… but I would be concerned about it,” Heyman added.

The Red Sox signed backup catcher David Ross in the offseason, but were unable to trade Jarrod Saltalamacchia to clear way for Ryan Lavarnway to take over behind the plate. So how will the Red Sox’ catching situation play out?

“It looks like Lavarnway is the odd man out at this point, but Salty didn’t have that great of a year,” said Heyman. “I think they were unable to get anything for him in the trade market, so he’s the starter. And that hurts Lavarnway.”

Reports out of Fort Myers say John Lackey is in great shape as he makes his return from Tommy John surgery. What can the Red Sox expect out of Lackey in 2013?

“Guys have come back from Tommy John and been themselves. If that means being the guy with the Angels, that’s great. If it’s the guy in Boston, that’s not so great,” said Heyman. “I think it’s pretty much up in the air what Lackey is going to be.”

Gresh & Zolak began Tuesday’s show discussing Rob Gronkowski’s excessive partying and how big of a distraction it is becoming for the New England Patriots.

“We have talked about this issue before; I was very vocal on the Bibi Jones thing, because I think you have to be careful with how you position the Patriots’ brand,” said Gresh. “Let’s start with this; because Rob Gronkowski is hurt and now under contract, are the rules of engagement different for him? Do you look at it differently given the fact some things have changed, not just for him but with the Patriots.”

“I’ve said it a billion of times, our greatest strength is also our greatest weakness,” said Gresh. “With Gronkowski, the childlike naivete, the bull in a china shop attitude is great for Rob Gronkowski when he’s in the Super Bowl and he has three people trying to drag him down. It’s also the same personality that comes out when he’s had a few and is dancing in Vegas, dropping the DDT on your brother like Jake the Snake.”

“If this is in-season, this is a major issue with the organization,” said Zo. “There is an attractive quality he has where a lot of young guys look at him and say he’s crushing it right now. He’s your modern-day transformer in an NFL player’s body. He walks into any situation and he wants to take control of it in a fun way that goes too far. He doesn’t know when to say no. I think the biggest problem around him is the three brothers; they’ve been doing this a long time. It’s almost like it’s a tradition for them.”

“At what point does he say ‘wow, I’ve done something that is really conduct detrimental to the team.’?” questioned Zolak.

“Going out and dancing and hooting and hollering is one thing; throwing yourself around and being physical is another issue,” added Gresh. “To whom much is given, much is expected. He’s been given a lot of money by this organization, and they have put a lot of faith in this guy.”

Gresh and Zo started off Thursday’s show talking about the Celtics big win last night over the Kings and how they’re managing without Rajon Rondo.

Also, the guys get into who the real leader of the team is and how the C’s will only go as far as their depth allows them.

BOSTON (CBS) – TNT basketball analyst Steve Kerr joined 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Gresh and Zolak on Thursday to shed some light on why the Celtics have under-performed so far this season.

Kerr says the Celtics are vulnerable this season on both ends of the floor, and their off-season acquisitions aren’t panning out as they expected.

“I thought they had a great off-season. I thought they were able to retool with (Jason) Terry, (Jeff) Green and (Jared) Sullinger. I thought that would infuse some energy and youth and keep this going, but it hasn’t been the case” said Kerr.

“Their defense has really eroded, and that’s been the key to this club the last six, seven years since KG has been around. They’re much smaller and more vulnerable in the paint,” said Kerr. “Offensively, they’ve always been very efficient… that is slipping too. All of a sudden, they’re very vulnerable at both ends, and that’s the reason they’re sitting here at .500.”

Kerr also discussed whether he thought Rondo was leader or not.

“I don’t think so. At this stage you kind of are who you are; it’s very rare you see a guy evolve into a great leader in his seventh year,” said Kerr. “I love Rondo, I think he’s a phenomenal player, but I don’t think he’s the type of leader that will take the franchise by the throat and say ‘this is what we’re going, this is what we’re doing.’”

“When a team struggles and goes through adversity, that’s when you really need someone to grasp the rest of the group and keep them going. I’m not sure he’s that guy,” he added.

Also, should the Celtics make a big trade involving Garnett or Pierce? And do the Celtics miss Ray Allen?

Terry Francona and Dan Shaughnessy joined Gresh & Zo Wednesday morning to discuss their new book

Terry Francona and Dan Shaughnessy joined Gresh & Zo Wednesday morning to discuss their new book, “Francona: The Red Sox Years.” The guys asked the former Red Sox manager about past relationships with players and how ownership affected his tenure in Boston. Also, Francona and Shaughnessy give a look into how they built their unlikely relationship.

Francona, on Tom Werner saying the manager admitted to losing the clubhouse
I don’t think the front office ever said that. I think Tom Werner made that comment that I said that I had lost control, which I had never said. I don’t think I ever lost control.

I was frustrated by my inability to maybe get some things across to guys that maybe I had in the past. Sometimes guys tend to care about themselves more than the team. I always felt like I could get that point across to most guys. And in the last year, I was getting frustrated by that – I couldn’t. That’s kind of what I meant.

Francona, on the challenges of Boston
Part of being a manager in Boston, or probably a coach in Boston for that matter, is trying to put out the daily fires. There are enough of them to begin with, and the ones that aren’t there are made up. It’s part of the daily regimen. Trying to make it easier for the players to play was part of my responsibility.

I thought for the most part we really did a good job. Even all the stuff that came out after I left the Red Sox, it never came out during. … All that stuff came out when the season was over.

Francona, on Manny Ramirez taking a public beating for taking three strikes against Mariano Rivera
I tried to always stick up for Manny, I think that’s probably the reason people didn’t believe me. We had asked him to pinch hit that day and he was ready. He was back in the tunnel, he was engaged. He never got a pitch he thought he could handle, and he never offered.

Now, I don’t think he lost sleep over it. But he didn’t go up there and mail it in. He took a beating for that one, and I didn’t think that was just.

[Dealing with Manny Ramirez] is part of the reason I have no hair, but it’s also part of the reason I have two rings.

Finally, after a long lockout where it looked like the season might be lost, hockey is back starting

Finally, after a long lockout where it looked like the season might be lost, hockey is back starting on Saturday when the Bruins host the New York Rangers.

Bruins forward Rich Peverley joined Gresh & Zo after practice to preview the upcoming NHL season. Peverley told the guys about playing overseas during the NHL lockout, the B’s team dynamic and how his injured knee is doing.

As a result of the 2012 NHL lockout, Peverley signed a contract to play overseas. How does he feel about having made the trip, especially since he suffered an MCL injury last season?

“For myself I think it was definitely the right decision. I missed 25 games last year, probably from about a year ago today and I think it was the right decision for myself to play. I definitely feel good in camp and played 30 games so far, so I feel pretty good.”

For the most part this team has stayed the same except that they are without starting goalie Tim Thomas. This means that Tuukka Rask will step into the starting role this season. Is Rask ready for a larger role?

“We know we’re confident in Tuukka, and Anton too. Tuukka has proved in the league before that he’s a top goaltender, and he’s really looking for that chance,” said Peverley. “I think he’s one of the best in the leagues, and he just has to come out and show everybody how good he is.”

Sunday it’s an AFC Championship rematch as the Ravens roll into Foxboro.

Gresh & Zo opened Friday’s show fired up for the big game. The guys don’t care how the Patriots win, it’s not about style points. What are a few things that are going to be vitally important to a Patriots victory?

Zo had many ideas on what the Patriots needed to do come Sunday like keeping Ray Lewis on the field and getting the match ups that favor the Pats offense. The Patriots also need to take the shots down the field when the Ravens give them the chance.

The guys also hit on the Bruins opener Saturday night.

BOSTON (CBS) – CBS Sports NFL Analyst Phil Simms will have the call of the Patriots-Ravens AFC

BOSTON (CBS) – CBS Sports NFL Analyst Phil Simms will have the call of the Patriots-Ravens AFC Championship game on Sunday, and joined 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Gresh & Zo on Thursday to preview the big game.

The confident Ravens will come into Gillette Stadium looking for some revenge from last year’s AFC Championship loss. What is one of the winning elements of playoff football that will likely show up come Sunday afternoon?

“Coaches can’t be afraid, players can’t be afraid. You have to be some-what daring; you might have to take some risks,” answered Simms. “When you have to run it to win a game, can you get it done? If you have to throw it at the end of the game, can you get it done?”

“It’s doing the obvious when it’s there; can you do that? That’s the big thing about a Super Bowl champion and a playoff team. We’ll see how it works out,” said Simms.

There has been a lot of criticism of Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, who has won at least one playoff game in each of his five seasons in the NFL. But after his stellar performance last Saturday against the Denver Broncos, is Flacco closing the gap between himself and the other elite quarterbacks in the league?

“Was he there last year in the championship game? If Lee Evans catches the ball, is he there? You say his performances are up and down, I watched every game, and I’ll admit there are a few weeks he didn’t strike the ball 100-percent, but there are very few of those games,” said Simms. “He doesn’t run a QB friendly offense down in Baltimore. He hasn’t won that game that has given him the pizazz or aura. I don’t want to be a defender of Joe Flacco, but what he does on the offensive side, very few quarterbacks can do.”

“His numbers are never going to get to where you guys are going to go ‘wow, he is something special.’ That’s not the way they’re running that football team and he has to live with that,” said Simms. “He has the talent to overcome it, because you almost have to be a veteran guy to learn to accept your role in that type of offense.”

“The only way he’s going to get that respect is if he plays well and beat the Patriots, plays well and win the Super Bowl,” said Simms. Then they’ll go ‘I guess he’s OK with the Ravens.’ But even then I doubt he’ll get the accolades quarterbacks get after they win Super Bowls.”
