Day 11:  Finding it hard today, grey clouds hanging around my head, making it hard to see the good in things.  I am alive and breathing, healthy and surrounded by good people, for this I am grateful.

Day 11: Be still my grey thoughts

Dr Kirsty Park, lecturer at the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences of the University of Stirling, said in this article that  the only mean to save red squirrels is to kill greys. Her arguments are that other solutions like finding a vaccine to the parapox virus or shipping grey squirrels back to England will cost too much money and make less money to conservation of red squirrels. Thinking of animal rights of grey squirrels when we are talking about disappearance of red squirrels cost also too much money and time according to her. I can understand that time is passing and the situation of red squirrels becomes more and more alarming each day. Other solutions can be found but take time. But grey squirrels are animals as well and got the same right to live as red squirrels. Why red squirrels would have better reasons to live than grey squirrels ? Because us Europeans have always known and seen red squirrels in our forests ? Because we feel like the grey squirrel was an intruder ? Because they are less cute and less pleasant to look at ? Eradicating a population of individuals to allow another population to live makes me think about one of the worst times of our history, even if we are talking about animals. We should not think about grey squirrels as they were parasites. Unfortunately, they are the ones who carry the pox. Is it their fault if they aren’t infected by this virus ? In my opinion, scientists should concentrate on finding a vaccine so that grey and red squirrels could coexisted. Killing grey squirrels could lead to drifts and, if this solution passes, grey squirrels may be in a few decades the ones who will be threatened with extinction. But perhaps nobody will care.

Browsing through the files on my external hard-drive looking for some Bright Eyes records, I stumble upon a whole map stuffed with old drawings. I never knew I’ve drawn this much. The best thing is  it contains all the original scans and illustrator files. Like this one:

I do not think that I’m ready to begin the week. There’s so much I want to do that would require more weekends ~ cleaning my own room, getting some chill-out time, wandering in my own world where thoughts fly frivolously and desires quenched to the max, watch tv, to be mentally at peace with the people I have to meet daily and the list goes on. Basically to have nothing to look forward to but the NOW. I tried stirring the inner peace through reading this book but it didn’t help because I started to dive into my world of wishes and hopes for one simple reason, my intellect has a great propensity to stir the imagination. Thus, I decided to go sleep, particularly with the skies turning grey with the possibility of shower. I wasn’t sure if I should feel glad that the weather seemed perfect for a little snuggle wuggle or should I feel upset that it meant I was unable to go out to engage in activities that would be so fun, soul nurturing yet possibly sinful because excessive behaviour is simply wrong (as some may claim). After much pondering, I figured, what the heck, sleep off the blues amidst the the grey skies.

Grey……

…………..is a colour. Too.

The lights are twinkling away on Oxford Street, the carols are playing in the shops, and I overheard a woman on Saturday saying she only had one more present to buy, which sent me into a mad panic. Anyone who works in business knows the importance of language. Businesses, products, and services require names with the right connotations and associations. It is therefore of more than academic interest that around one in five young people are putting off starting a pension because they do not like the word ‘pension’, according to new research by YouGov.

The research, commissioned by AXA, has revealed that if all the one million 18 to 24 year olds continue to delay starting their pension by five years, this could potentially lead to a combined shortfall in their retirement income of more than £44billion.

In addition, almost 75% of 18 to 24 year olds associate the word ‘pension’ with old age, which AXA warns could result in the younger generation leaving things too late when it comes to retirement planning.

It appears young people are not alone with their dislike for the word pension, as around a fifth of the total population aged over 18 associate the word with ‘grey’, while one in ten people think the word is old-fashioned.

My small slice of the world has been wrapped up in soft grey tissue paper.

And sprinkled now and then with pearls. In this case, the luminous moonstone white of the swans bobbing upside down in search of food.

And just when I think the soft grey clouds are winning, I catch sight of a splash of tinsel, a dab of gold.

We have to embrace the grey too. After all, it is a part of life’s mosaic.

And look – the soft grey pastel tones have a near-magical quality!

In Memoriam. Sentiremos sua falta.

Today, I was offered a job! By which this whole process from being called down for an interview, 2nd interview & being offered e job all happened so quickly! It was only last Friday I went in e late morning for an interview, then was called to go back in e evening (apparently for e 2nd interview), & then this afternoon I was called up & informed of e job offer & req to go down in e evening for e details!

Quite ‘ridiculous’ in this sense, doesn’t it? lol* & mummy still said I most prob wldn’t get e job… (hahaha~ let me narrate e so-called ‘dumb’ thing i did ba)

During e 2nd interview with e big boss, there was this qn he asked me abt earliest date of commencement…

Boss: “So your earliest date of commencement is 7 Dec… That’s 2 wks later. I thought you are not working now?”
Me: “Yes, I’m not working now.”
Boss: “Why must wait until 2 wks then?”
Me: “Because I have a spa appointment on 4 Dec with my mum…”
Boss’ immediate reaction – big chuckle like it’s a joke
In my head – abit taken aback by his reaction & felt rather embarassed
Me: “It has to be a wkday & I thought it wldn’t be convenient to take no-pay leave, so I put 7 Dec.”
Boss’ reaction – still finding it like quite ridiculous & smiling/ laughing abt it
Me: “But of coz if you need me to start work earlier, I can always make arrangements. I just put 7 Dec as my preferred date to start work.”

That was what happened. & my mum said i was ’stupid’ to be so honest, & shld have prob said i got appt or something. lol* but I didn’t think too much then la… & I tot it should be ok? I’m just telling e truth. Anywayz…

So prob mummy was right, they really needed some1 urgently, or maybe e other applicants were pretty ‘lousy’. But somehow i feel quite ‘relieved’ tt they r offering me e job, at least like, I’m wanted. It boosts my confidence, definitely. My first interview with e 1st company, & I got it. Usually I’m quite confident of myself in terms of getting a job… I mean, I don’t really worry too much abt nt being able to find a job, rather i am more worried abt getting a gd 1. I wonder if I’m over confident now… lol* I hope not.

I guess, I will most prob decline e job offer. I’d rather take a longer time to find e ‘right’ job than hastily jump into 1 coz I need income. Gotta get back to them by tom evening/ wed morn. I still hope to work in a big company. Pls call me Canon~

OK, i kinda 4got my main objective of this post. I soo wanted to post this pic of this pair of shoes tt i love (& open-ceremony today)!! I wore it to e company today & LUCKY it was pretty comfortable (as compared to e other HIGH-heels) & I tot it looks really cool. hehehz. No blisters & tt is 1 big relief for me already!! & it’s in grey… 1 of my FAV colors too!

It’s from Charles & Keith – 1 of my fav brands. & i’m happy it doesn’t really hurt. (or maybe I didn’t walk long enuff in it??) ahhh.. anywayz, i’ll know tt when e time comes….. if it really will hurt. which i hope it won’t. -_-

We shared a dream that night. A tornado pursued us. The sky was orange and the world was græy. Cars flew over head and parked airplanes from some unknown airport dragged down the street. There were flashes of lightning, blood pink as light filtered through a hand. The trees were a flurry of forces and the tornado itself was dark, desolate, void. Imminent danger filled our souls with adrenaline but our bodies stood entranced by a chilling emptiness, futility. For a fleeting moment we became death and oblivion. We passed and we awoke. We remember everything.
