I just received this grinder the day before yesterday from Hario USA, after Googling about French presses and grinders for several days.

I’ve switched between tea and coffee since about 1992-93, when I first went into the Starbucks in Pasadena on the corner of Lake and California and tried the mocha. I never really cared for coffee before, and that first mocha was memorable. Since then sometimes I drink, sometimes I take I break. In 1995 I drank nothing (no water, no juice, no milk) but mochas from Espresso Roma in Pasadena. Not recommended. I stopped drinking tea most recently when I got a 3 cavities a year ago. It was because I’d slowly sip on sweetened, milk tea in the morning and then sometimes I’d rush off for lunch and not brush; and it was a big surprise when I got 3 cavities in 1 visit. Also my teeth have become sensitive over the years, and it likely has something to do with this coffee/tea habit. Not good. So I stopped drinking tea and coffee for a while a few months ago, and it was fine. But then I’d occasionally started dropping by at Starbucks and get some of their drip coffee, and it was nice. One day I noticed my old French press in the back of my cupboard; I’d been most recently drinking tea for atleast 2 years, so I was surprised to find it there, since a lot of that kind of stuff is in storage.

At home I drink French press only, and I like it better than any other type of coffee, and I don’t mind that it’s got a little bit of coffee sediment in it. I read Sweet Maria’s website and I was thinking about getting the pretty brass Zassenhaus Turkish mill, but obviously it’s built for ultra-fine Turkish grinding, and for French press you need a coarse grind, so I asked them and they said it would work on its coarsest settings, though it would be a bit on the fine side. That’s how I ground my coffee anyway when I had a Capresso grinder, their lowest burr grinder model. It was alright, but nothing special, and rather messy (I’d have to run it in the sink because there’d be all kinds of coffee grinds flying out of it, and it was loud; I finally threw it away when the plastic basket cracked for the second time after a reasonably good run with it).

Sweet Maria’s had the Hario Skerton for sale, and I liked the fact that it is small and a hand-grinder. (I am something of a Luddite.) I looked for reviews of the Skerton as a French press grinder, but didn’t really see anything except a few forum posts which were largely positive. I ordered it, but Sweet Maria’s was out of stock, so I got it from Hario USA, which is a nice operation. The grinder comes with only Japanese instructions; I think the importer should translate the instructions. But it’s easy enough to basically figure out what to do.

Although it looks like the grinds are only adjustable to certain settings, in fact the whole assembly comes apart and you set the grind using a bolt and nut type assembly, not by selecting from the slots on the top, which steady the grinding mechanism I think. So I dialed in a grind I thought would work the night before (all anticipation).

In the morning I ground my beans. Like other posts, I noticed that the end of the grinder is wobbly on the coarse setting. I put the beans in and turned the handle… and it was great. It worked smoothly, nicely, even though the end was wobbly you can feel the satisfaction of catching the beans in the burrs and grinding them as you turn the crank. I don’t know how to check whether grind was even or not, it looked about as even as when I it ground at Starbucks or from the old Capresso. To do my 15o morning coffee probably took me about a minute give or take a few seconds, nothing at all.

When I drank the press, I was pleasantly surprised by how little sediment there was compared with Starbucks, the supermarket grinder, and the old Capresso. There was much less than from any of those, and the coffee had that extra freshly-ground punch to it. I also read some other website where the fellow said that beans flew out the top of his Skerton and he made a lid out of a butter container lid to cover the bean basket; I didn’t have that problem at all.

So the Hario Skerton is indeed wobbly on coarse, but it’s an excellent, affordable, quiet, compact French press hand grinder.

Die Rakeback Situation im Entraction Netzwerk ist etwas seltsam. So, I recently wrote back to Quiznos at the suggestion of Jon on Twitter, and with the editing help of Dave once again. Jon has apparently been following the Subway saga along with a handful of other people… and thought that it may be an appropriate next step. I couldn’t agree more. In fact, I’ve had this thought myself, and if I remember correctly Jon had posted about it previously on Facebook or MySpace or Twitter or some social media site. Memory and my Googling skills fail me in finding that now, though.

I have high hopes on getting a well thought out response or two. I sent the message below to Mr. Jones, the same message to Mr. Bordeaux, and a slightly modified one to a few other email addresses that I managed to dig up. I enjoyed the candid reply from Mr. Jones before, although I was unable to get any further comment from Mr. Bordeaux or his team with whom he was going to share my email.

I would like to thank you again for the response to my email last week regarding Subway’s lack of allergy awareness, cheese tessellation, appropriate responses to customer feedback, and poor decisions in general. I understand and have learned first hand that good communication is a key component to the Quiznos way of doing business. I also appreciate your expedited replies, and hope that you can gain something knowing how cavalier your competitor’s attitude is toward genuine customer concerns. I am glad to be a gauge of what you do at Quiznos, and I would like to hope that my feedback is valuable.

In sharing my recent adventures in email with some friends, I have noticed a theme that has come up in suggested queries for your fine establishment… and I must say that I have indeed wondered the same thing myself.

Are you using “little people” models for the toasty torpedoes ads, perhaps children or pygmies? I did get a turkey torpedo a while ago, and I did make a mental note that it seemed to be nothing more than a bread stick made into a sandwich. I thought that the toasty torpedo looked bigger in the ads… but I didn’t quite connect why until recently.

A quick Google image search led me to this photo, perfect for a reference for our purposes…

I’m sure you can also see it now that I’ve pointed it out. I, my friend, cannot un-see it. There is no way that the hand in the above graphic is correctly proportioned to the Toasty TORPEDO™. I’m actually tempted to go get another one in an attempt to re-create this photo to see how accurate it may be. I can guarantee though, that if I did in fact hold a toasty torpedo like that, that it would most certainly fall apart. Mine lasted for about a bite and a half before it fell apart.

In Googling, I found multiple odd references to this ad campaign. Does Quiznos make any official statements to counter these goofy bloggers? I found one guy that thinks it looks like a cigarette ad. One guy seems to have a Freudian problem and these people seem to think that one commercial purposely compares your torpedos to a cup of human excrement. Okay, I have to give them that one. I mean… you did hear of 2 Girls, 1 Cup right? I’d find it and link to it, but some may find that offensive/distasteful and I’m sure you know how to use search engines. These people even seem to come to the same conclusion as I have toward the end of their blog… as well as a commenter on this blog.

I understand that all advertising is not one hundred percent factual, and that things tend to be exaggerated, but I really find this image rather misleading. While I understand that I’m not going to walk into a Quiznos any time soon and find a HAL 9000’s creepy sexually suggestive oven cousin, two gorgeous scantily clad women eating a sub rather suggestively, two naked rednecks in a tub of water over a campfire, a baby with the voice of a grown man, anyone suckling on any wolf teats, or even genetic mutations with Latino accents and tiny guitars floating in the air singing praise of your sandwiches… I feel that you owe some level of honesty to the customer.

While the other ads are easily discernible as attention grabbing goofiness, this one seems rather straight forward at first — yet dishonest upon further inspection.

I would love to hear your thoughts on the matter as well as the thoughts of any other marketing people or regional managers in the Quiznos family.

If I didn’t feel that I was already taking up too much of your time, I wouldn’t mind getting into a discussion on the violent phallic imagery that the shape and name of these subs not-so-subliminally suggest. I mean, really? Torpedo? Bullet? How many feminists have already written to discuss this? I feel that this topic is a less pressing issue though, to be saved for another day.

Next imagine that you only sold these for the lowest price which your license allows of £197 Sterling each set (License Holders may never sell lower than this price to ensure that you all make maximum profits) in truth you will be charging nearer to £397 for each retail set sold, but for the sake of this example imagine they sell at £197 each. 

That would be a total income of: £19,700 from an average of just two sales at just £197 each per week (allowing for two no sale weeks)

 Consider that each 21 disc set requires 20 blank DVD-R discs and 1 blank CD-Rom disc to produce and that’s a total of 2,000 blank DVD-ROMs and 100 CD-ROMs required to manufacture and fulfill the orders. 

Using a site such as www.dvdshoponline.co.uk  (for this example – there are actually even cheaper sources) the DVD’s (which enable you to print direct onto the disc) would cost you £30 per 100 discs so for 2,000 DVD’S that’s a total of £600. 

Then you’d pay £10 for each 100 printable blank CD-ROM’s thus meaning that so far its cost you £610 to manufacture 100 sets of the entire package! 

Next you will need Two Ten Way DVD cases for each set and also one single DVD case for each set, a total of 200 ten way (£25 for 50 at example site shown) and 100 single DVD cases (£10 for 100 on example site) being required. 

That’s a total cost for cases for 100 sets of the package of: £110 thus bringing our running total so far to £720. 

Next each case will need a nice colour cover printing with each set needing three covers (as there are two ten way cases and a one single case) so that’s a total of 300 sheets of photo quality paper required and as 50 sheets costs £3-00 that’s a total of £18 for paper. 

Then there is ink which when you buy your ink cartridges cheap (via ebay etc) should cost you no more than the equivalent of 10p for each cover and lets say 5p max for each full colour DVD face which you print. So with 3 covers for each set and 21 discs that’s an ink cost for each set of £1-35 and a total cost of £135 to manufacture 100 sets. 

Finally you will need 100 large Padded jiffy envelopes to use sending the packages out to your customers which bought cheaply on net will cost you around 50p each so that’s a total of £50 to send out the 100 sets. 

And finally First Class or Airmail Postage to send out each package will need to be paid for so let’s say an average of £10 per set which is £1,000 to send out the example 100 sets being discussed here. In truth to send to UK they will be little more than £5 each first class but the rest allows for International postage costs. 

Add together the total of everything stated above and it comes to a figure of:£1923.

That means that each set to manufacture and send out to your customer costs you in this example £19-23p and even in this example where we are imagining you are only retailing them at £197 a set it gives you a total profit from each sale of: OVER – £177 

So with even only 100 sales in a year (average of 2 per week for 50 weeks) and even if you were only selling them at the bare minimum retail price allowed of £197 you’d still make by selling just 100 sets a profit of: £17,777 

Assuming that you have made the intelligent decision to make your one time payment to secure your Personal Limited Edition Platinum Master Resale Legal License to this set in full and as such will be paying just £1297.00, then even after getting back your original investment in this “Worst Case Scenario Example” you stand to make a BIG PROFIT OF – £16,480. 

And as this is a “worst case scenario” lets say you decide to buy a DVD duplicator which can burn Ten copies of each disc from your master each time without the need to use your computer. Well these can be bought online for less than £400 and will save you many hours of work. 

Oh and perhaps you need to buy a new printer that can be used to both print the covers and also the “labels” directly onto the discs then one of these can be got again online for less than £200. 

Even after investing into these two pieces of equipment you’d still in this “worst case scenario” have made a PROFIT OF – £ 15,880 and of course you’d still have all of the equipment which you can continue to use for years to come without any need for additional investment. 

And that’s without running any of the Live Royle CMT Training Seminars to which you will be Legally Licensed and Entitled to also profit from and remember it’s also without selling any “Resale Rights” or “Master Platinum Resale” rights onto anyone.

I’ve seen this type of response happen before, but it never really registered consciously. As time goes on in a couple’s relationship, there could be a tendency to stop being as affectionate. Does the couple still touch affectionately, hold hands, give little gifts of love, amiable looks, whispered sweet nothings in the ear, surprise kisses, random embraces… ???

This could partially be due to the couple, unconsciously, setting up anchors for these negative states. The next time this anchor is fired off, the person’s mood will change to match the state corresponding to the anchor that was triggered.

This is a pretty basic technique that is detailed in the studies of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and most people do it every day unconsciously.  Here is a quote from Richard Bandler/John Grinder’s book, Frogs Into Princes:

When couples have been together for a while they usually end up not touching each other much. Do you know how they do that? Let me show you. Come up here, Char. This is a good way to alienate your loved ones. You’re in a really bad mood, really depressed. And I’m your loving husband, so I come up and I go “Hey, it’s going to be all right,” and put my arm around your shoulders. Then all I have to do is wait until you’re in a good mood and really happy, and come up and say “Hey, you want to go out?” and put my arm around you again. Boom! Instead of touching each other when they are happy and making all kinds of great anchors, couples usually anchor each other into unpleasant states.

So you see… the wife was depressed and the husband embraced (granted, with good intentions). However, he unknowningly set up his wife to associate that embrace with that negative mood / state. So, potentially, when he embraces her in the same manner in the future, she will react in accordance to the negative state from the last time or when the anchor was setup. Probably a better way to handle the situation (for the long run) is to help the wife achieve a more positive state and THEN anchor that state with the embrace.

As is often stated in the same book, the intent of your communication is the response you get from it and if you don’t like the response you get – change your ways! Look at the way you interact with someone that this applies to. Are there some positive portions of your responses that seemed to have dimished over the years? What is common across the board of these experiences? Pay special attention the next time one of these instances occurs… and change!

Give you and your partner the CHOICE to respond to your intereactions with each other instead of just jumping back into the familiar routine responses.

Above, you can see the vice stand. I haven’t done much documentation of the process, so you get the finished product, and thats it unfortunatly. The black blob on one leg is a bunch of electrical tape, which i have used to take out the wobble from the stand, as the feet aren’t perfectly even.

This one came about from various projects where I needed to work outside, but needed something to hold and support my work, as well as having a couple of new tools to try out, including an auto tinting welding helmet, and an angle grinder cutoff stand near identical to the one pictured below:

In the end, the stand was a bit higher then i had planed. The stand was supposed to be about 90cm high,  but somewhere along the line, I made it 100cm

construction was pretty basic, with the feet in 3 pieces – one full length of about 50cm, the other two are half that and are joind to the large one in the center, a couple of bits of strap welded ontop of the crossed feet to give me somewhere to weld the main pipe, and then there was the main pipe itself wich was welded ontop of the cross. The end plate the vice bolts to was acually already on the pipe I used, so that made my life a little easier.

My welds were far from awesome, but they are holding for the time being. if they break, i can always re-weld the stand, and depending on how things go, I may end up cutting it off and making it shorter, and hopefully improving on my welds. My new welding helmet helped me aim my welds better, and made it much easier to weld. I’m very impressed.

In the last post, I created a prototype with some technologies which were new to me, especially Gaelyk.

As it turned out, the prototype behaved quite differently in my local system and when deployed in the Google App Engine. What seems really strange to me is that even after all five number series had been cached, every 3-4th request took quite long, at least locally. In the deployed version, this seemed to be different and not too slow (even though I suppose a pure Java version would be significantly faster).

Now, how can I test without too much trouble if the deployed site is “just fast enough”?
Having looked around quite some time, Grinder looked most promising to me, with respect to easy of usage and features.

Preparation

Download Grinder and Jython 2.2.1 – it must be this version, not the current 2.5.x – this just does not work.

Install Jython.

Create grinder.properties and grinder.py – they can go in any directory, the most simple usage will be in the grinder/lib directory:

Usage

Now you can start the Grinder console with:
java -cp grinder.jar net.grinder.Console

Afterwards, start the Grinder agent with:
java -cp grinder.jar net.grinder.Console

Now, you must sync the data first, as shown in the screenshot. Afterwards, just start the tests.

According to the config, the agent runs indefinitely in 10 Threads. The site in the Jython script is called and in the resulting page, the expression counter is searched. If it is not present, the test fails. You can verify this by stopping the server, it will start increasing the failure counter immediately.

All in all, we have a very easy load test with very few lines of code.

As a result, the remote Google App Engine runs much more stable, so I just presume that the memcache implementation of the local Google App Engine server is not as good/stable as the remote one. But this is just a guess.

However, be careful with Gaelyk besides from using it for prototypes, because if the site is not called continuously, it kind of fells asleep really fast (some minutes) and needs its time for wakeup, which is quite annoying. I just don’t know what causes this, Gaelyk or the GAE.
You can verify this by just loading the Gaelyk home page. The first call often really feels kind of slow.

The city of Cardiff, home to the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff Castle, the worlds most vile street on a Saturday night (St Mary’s) and “The New York Deli”. Ignore the third homage point, but if the council are to promote some of Cardiff’s finer points, the NY deli is most certainly one of them. Granted it has nothing to do with the heritage of Cardiff or Wales, but the fact that it’s here is good enough.

Like many of the world’s major cities that have China Towns and Little Italy’s, Cardiff has its very own mini New York in the confines of the Deli located in High Street Arcade. The days of the first shop are long gone but not forgotten. Jolt Cola, (which is now sadly banned in this country for its horrific levels of caffeine) some toasted rye bread and USA today, perched on a wooden bench staring across at Air Circus contemplating whether I should buy a yoyo or new skates is still fresh in my mind.

At the current shop, the counter is home to some of America’s finest ingredients for sandwich making. Pastrami, Salt Beef, Swiss cheese, Thousand Island dressing, and gherkins with a feast of confectionary delights perched on the top of the counter. I always stare at the brownies but opt for the Carrot Cake.

This week the clubbers came in force, a four strong squad, each member ready for sandwich eating war, with talks of hoagies, grinders, clubs and cakes. This time, an order of 2 Reuben’s, a meatball grinder and a pastrami and Swiss cheese hoagie was made.

The Reuben at the New York Deli consists of Pastrami, Swiss cheese, coleslaw, gherkins and Thousand Island dressing. A huge sandwich is presented, with the colours alone scoring the sandwich highly, buts it’s the explosion of flavour that this sandwich delivers which gives it full marks. Meaty and fresh, a light sour taste is delivered by the gherkins that sit between the Thousand Island and coleslaw combination. This is a seriously good sandwich!

The meatball grinder, warmed in foil is a messy affair but the clubber remained silent throughout his consumption and finally stated “Amazing! But now I have to clean my face”. Be warned, meatball grinders come with plenty of sauce so extra napkins will be needed.

The hoagie is a food marathon. An enormous submarine roll is piled with food that requires you to pick out filling before being able to close it into any form of holding sandwich. Our tip is to get a fork, eat half the contents alone, then fold the roll with the remaining filling inside and eat! The pictures say it all.

Prince Charming is very particular about his coffee, to the point of roasting his own green coffee beans.  That’s green, as in raw, unroasted, not as in energy efficient.

We make two types of coffee in our house.  During the week, it’s a drip coffee maker, but on the weekends, it’s  French Press.  Each type requires the coffee be ground to a different coarseness level to achieve maximum flavor.

Earlier this week, in a fit of domestic zeal (I should have lied down until it passed – BIG Mistake!) I broke the coffee grinder.  Inserting the burred grinding mechanism upside-down is not a good thing.  The metal gears mesh, and there’s no way to remove it.  I tried!  Prince Charming tried!  I called a halt to repairs when there was active electricity and a kitchen knife poking at the grinding mechanism.  One mistake need not be followed by another.

So, a trip to Crate & Barrel ensued, to produce a new coffee grinder, and some anniversary appropriate mugs with which to enjoy the brew.

Thank you for 16 Wonderful Years!

Ugh this one is going to be brutal, but first a little dazzling history on this hole-in-the wall joint. Originally owned by Anthony Rinaldi and his overly energetic wife this little spot served up the greatest sandwiches, soups, salads, etc. Basically, some sick deli food. They would throw the sandwiches to you over the counter when they were finished makin’ them and say something funny like pasta fongul (kidding) Prices were good, spirits were high and sauce was everywhere! In a good way. Then, the Albanians came and took over the joint. Messed up! These two dorks ruined my favorite lunch spot. They skimp on EVERYTHING! (cheap-o’s) I would usually get the chicken parm on a wedge…amazing sandwich. The Albanians, however, destroyed this little torpedo by sprinkling mozzarella cheese on top of the sandwich as if it were a topping on ice cream. When I get a chicken parm, I want slices of mutz on that bad boy, not some fairy dust that gets lost in the sauce, which they also skimp on now. Then to add insult to injury, they wrap the damn thing in a plate, then in foil, then in butcher paper and top it off with a brown bag. Seriously, its a treasure hunt to find your sandwich and when you finally do, the bits of cheese that do manage to ooze out of the sandwich, stick to this ridiculous paper plate that the big chief decided was a good idea. (On a side note, the last time I went there, they did not wrap with a plate and have finally gone back to using slices of mutz, I guess they fell into some cash somewhere along the lines) Now, onto the new uniforms that they are wearing at my beloved deli. Green and red hats with red shirts. Seriously its Christmas here all year round now! Anyway, I am going to stop my rambling and just say this is not a recommendation in my book.

So last night, I snapped. I have finally seen and heard my fill of Subway commercials.

Granted, there are certainly more annoying ad campaigns out there right now, and there will be in the future. But this snap sparked the ignition of the realization that I used to love Subway, and now I hate it. There’s no one reason, or even a real reason. There’s nothing that a rational person can do to change any of it or for it to make any difference or have any significance.

That’s where World (and Lunar) Domination steps in.  You may have seen my letters to companies on past message boards or blogs… maybe not.  From time to time I get goofy, and take it out on corporate America.  Sometimes the responses are serious, boring, nonexistent, intentionally funny, or unintentionally funny.

I have been encouraged to keep these rants somewhere, hence this WordPress blog.

I submitted the following (with some editing help from my friend Dave) via webform at Subway.com:

Hello Sandwich Art Dealers,

I’d like to start out by saying I find that web submission comment forms are generally a letdown. As the submitter you’re usually sent a ‘form letter’ type of reply that doesn’t address any specific issues, and thanks you for the input. Less often, it’s followed up by a seemingly more caring missive that really doesn’t address anything specific, and sometimes attempts to placate the sender with some coupons, a T-shirt or something to that effect. It’s also generally a letdown, because I can’t cc myself a copy of what I sent, and it’s a 50/50 shot of whether my original comments are to be included in any future correspondence. Then there’s the issue of the dreaded “Your message exceeds XXXX characters” error message. When did someone’s opinion become relegated to a set limit of letters, numbers, and punctuation, my friends?

At any rate, I should move on to the point of my web form submission, as I’m sure you’ll agree by this point. I write to you today to express my general dissatisfaction with the state of Subway as it stands today.

At the top of the list: the inclusion of the seafood sub on your menu. This has plagued me for years. I have a severe shellfish allergy, and will go into anaphylactic shock if any food that I ingest were to come into contact with crab, lobster, shrimp, oyster, etc., or even the same food prep area. I have seen more than a few Subway employees who aren’t exactly sanitary in their sandwich artistry, flinging microscopic bits of crab (or imitation crab) meat all over the adjacent meats, cheeses, vegetables, and cutting board area. The last time I had this discussion with a slovenly employee at the Subway in the Kuhn’s Plaza on Banksville Road in Pittsburgh, PA… as I explained that my sandwich must not touch any shellfish or remnants of shellfish she touched the eternally-damned-to-the-wrong-function ice cream scoop that had been sitting in the red and white pile of mushy death and swung it all around spewing certain doom to the immediate food prep area and all the while exclaiming something to the effect of “Well, that’s OK, no one ever orders this stuff anyway.” I just stared blankly in disbelief as a reply. If she didn’t already know what her sandwich-baggied hands had just touched and distributed the contaminant that I had previously noted was a toxin to my system, then there was no way I was going to be able to impart this wisdom to her. I found myself having to exit on that occasion, to never return to that location.

Are sandwich artists trained in the ways of sanitary work stations, cross contamination, allergens, and general good hygiene? One would hope, but the question has been raised.

How can I complain about Subway if I never eat there, you ask?

I did discover that I could get my Subway fix due to the limited-menu Subway located inside the WAL-MART in Heidelberg, PA. After all, as I’m sure you know… the smell of your bread baking is intoxicating. Sadly my friends, that is where the romance ends. I used to applaud the meatball sub from Subway, and held it as the standard to which all meatball subs were to be measured. This was once upon a time when the bread was doughy, the triangle was removed from the top, and replaced… keeping the meatballs secure in a blanket of cheese to ensure safe delivery to my digestive system. I know, this was a lifetime ago, but it still burns, amigos. It still burns. (I even remember the waffle fries that went through their own tiny toaster oven which have sadly gone the way of the Dodo.)

Have you seen the Left-Handed Cartoon about Subway, cheese tessellation, and soul-crushing disappointment? A friend of mine posted the humorous drawing on a message board a while ago… and sadly it rings true of the current state of Subway. (It’s located at http://www.lefthandedtoons.com/77/ for your reference if needed.)

Lastly, I find the current crop of five-dollar foot long commercials to be among the most annoying in the world… especially the one with Jared and the football players. What advertising company actually took money for that? Hopefully it was an in house idea. If not, then you were played (as they say in the streets).

As noted in my opening paragraph, I understand that is customary to include a trite reply and coupons in apology for dissatisfaction. If so inclined… please make sure they’re for Jersey Mike’s, Quiznos, or Sheetz. (FYI, Sheetz touts a far superior foot-long sub for only $4… This reminds me of when you guys started toasting subs after Quiznos moved to town.) I would include W.G. Grinder’s, but they recently started serving a crab-cake sub, so they’re also on ‘the list’. Perhaps a Jimmy John’s coupon would work? They’re fairly new to the Pittsburgh area, and I’ve yet to go to one… I wouldn’t mind trying them out! Jersey Mike’s is by far my favorite though. They’re not the cheapest, but worth the price in quality! Being a national chain, you may not be familiar with local Pittsburgh area heavyweights Carhops or Uncle Sam’s. They would be sandwich makers to emulate!

If you’re not comfortable providing a coupon to a direct competitor, I understand completely. I would also appreciate any discounts from Qdoba, Chipotle, or the Pita Pit.

Peter showed us how to grind a damaged chisel to perfection in this video. He said that he bought this antique chisel a while ago at a garage sale, and that it was super cheap since it had a nick on it. He then showed us that it could once again be magic after being ground down to perfection. Everyone was very impressed as you can see here.

Just a hungry thought on a lazy Sunday…

I’ve eaten so many sandwiches, so many ways…  heros, grinders, subs, wraps, paninis, and more, I’ve rocked ‘em all. I’ve written about cheesesteaks from Philly, Pastrami from New York, BBQ from Austin, Hot Dogs from Chicago, Burgers from just about anywhere, and of course, Roast Beef and Mozz from Hoboken.

Yet, after all my searching, there may be no finer sandwich in all the land than the much-discussed Num Pang pulled duroc pork spiced with honey, topped with cucumber, pickled carrots, cilantro and chili mayo on fresh baked Parisi bread.

NLP har sin opprinnelse fra 70 årene. De to amerikanerne John Grinder og Richard Bandler ønsket å finne ut hvorfor enkelte psykoterapeuter oppnådd bedre resultater mht. å kurere folk enn andre. Derfor studerte de blant annet arbeidet til hypnoterapist Milton Erikson, gestalt terapeuten Fritz Perls og familieterapeuten Virginia Satir. Ut ifra disse funnene utledet de noen vellykket atferdsmåter, metoder og forutsetninger for å kunne behandle mennesker i psykoterapi med suksess. Dette resulterte i NLP.  Bandler og Grinder modellerte kommunikasjonen og behandlingen til virkelig vellykkede psykoterapeuter og laget ut ifra dette NLPs metodikken. I de neste årene ble NLP stadig forbedret med nye metoder og modeller.
