I got my hair cut this weekend, and gave (partially) in to the urge to color my hair a crazy color. I got a purple stripe on one side. It’s on a bottom layer so only some of it is visible, and only in the right light. One or two kids saw it right away, and soon the rest knew but no one was commenting. Then at RtI time I was writing the vocab words on the board to get ready for reading groups, and the group near me burst out with, “Your hair really IS purple!” and, “I can see it!” But they could only see it at certain angles, so I kept moving my head and they were like, Okay now! or, Uhp, it’s gone. Finally someone said, “She’s like a sprinkler!” Or a flasher.

Then someone asked why I did it. I said, “Because I wanted to.” They just looked at me and I thought, Really? WHY?

Why do you wear the (weird) clothes you do?

Why do you write all over yourself? And your clothes? (That was more last year.)

Why don’t you tie your shoes?

Why do you wear raccoon make-up?

Why do you let your hair cover your face? (Boys!)

I digress.

TODAY’S TIDBIT:  You wouldn’t let just anyone do your hair would you? So what about your Yorkie’s hair? Choosing the right groomer is just as important as choosing the right vet!  Here in Canada, many groomers have taken specific courses to become certified by the Groomers Institute of Canada. Take some time to do a little research before you choose a groomer for your little Yorkie. Believe me, it’s worth the extra effort!

1. Ask your vet or breeder for a referral to a groomer that they know and respect. Our vet has business cards at the reception desk and on the bulletin board with the names of several groomers in our area.
2. Do they have experience grooming Yorkies? Grooming a toy breed is a lot different than grooming a larger sized breed.
3. How do they support your Yorkie’s neck during the grooming process? Very important question here! Yorkies have extremely delicate windpipes. Some groomers use a loop to hold the dog’s head in place while they’re being groomed. Be sure to ask the groomer if she’s careful not to put unnecessary tension on the loop around your Yorkie’s little neck.
4. Is the facility clean or is there dog hair all over the floor? Is it warm enough? A cold draftee room is the last place you want a wet little Yorkie.
5. Would you feel comfortable leaving your little Yorkie with this person for several hours? IF IN DOUBT, DON’T!!!

I had a chance to get a free makeover session from L’Oreal. She gave some tips. We should test the foundation color onto the edge of our face and neck. If we cannot find the exact similar color of foundation to our face color, we should go for a lighter one if our face is oily. Oily face tends to make the face become darker. For mascara, if we have oily face, we should go for the smudge-free using oil formula. This formula can be removed by warm water.

After the session, I feel that I looked weird. But I received positive feedback so far.

Had I been willing to stand outside in the freezing air last night, I might have wished upon a star that Tooey would do as well or better today than yesterday.

Turns out that wishing on said star was not necessary. She did it again, and even better. At today’s Greater Clark County Kennel Club show, Tooey took Winners Bitch and then Best of Winners. All that means that Tooey was judged the best not-yet-champion Irish Water Spaniel in the show*.

Tooey likes being in the show ring. I talk to her the whole time, which she likes. And I have treats in my pocket, which she really likes.

Since she won Winners Bitch both days, and since there were 5 other bitches to compete against both days, she won two “majors.”

Majors aren’t that easy to get. In Division 8, where I live, there have to be 6 bitches competing for Winners Bitch to get a major. (It’s 9 for dogs — even harder to get.) To get a championship, a dog or bitch needs two majors and 15 points.

Tooey has her two majors and 7 points. Now she can get the other 8 points at shows that aren’t necessarily majors. (You can read about the whole points thing at the AKC website.)

* This is not Best of Breed. Dogs and bitches who are already champions can compete in the Best of Breed competition, along with the Winners Dog and Winners Bitch, who are not yet champions.

All Cats know how to play the Cute Card. It’s something instinctive that we just knew the moment we were born. And really, it’s a vital skill of our trade.

Unlike Arthur who can’t seem to tell the difference between Cute and Silly, I tend to work the Cute into my daily routine, so that I don’t overdo it.

We used to call her Saders Taters. Lately we call her Sadie la “P.” P is short for Pataty, which is slang for Potato, from which we originally derived taters. Here are her before and after grooming photos, circa Thanksgiving. MM & RY 2009

Kobe is my Cocker Spaniel from Collie Rescue.  Kobe came to me starved nearly to death.  After a week or so of his arrival in 2007, I realized he was  my biggest rehabilitation challenge.

He attacked everything that moved outside; cars, kids on bikes, other dogs and people. There was nothing he would not bite.  It stemmed not from aggression, but from fear.

He had severe food aggression. This is typical from a dog that was starved or neglected.  He also had  an obsessive fixation disorder with his toys; one of the most difficult problems to overcome in rehabilitation.  And he had a difficult time bonding with people; he much preferred interacting with his tennis ball over his human companion, me.

It took over 6 months of intensive work to undo all his past trauma and create a happy balanced little cocker spaniel.   Today, he loves everyone he sees, greets them with his “jump and turn” ballerina antics,  has bonded with me, and exhibits no food aggression.

Kobe is also a special guy when it comes to grooming.  He has absolute fear of the large dryers they use at grooming salons.  I no longer take him to salons because this fear triggers some of his past unwanted behaviors which requires intermittent rehabilitation.   Instead, he is air dried and groomed at home.

What a success story he is!  He is available for meet & greets and loves to meet other dogs at dog parks in the area.

Pictures speak a 1000 words. Cappy was also a foster dog I worked with through OBG.  He loved his bath but not so fond of his clip.  But we got through it and as always, he was a happy boy afterwards!

Left outside for over 6 months with just food and water, Muncie came to Oldies But Goodies Cocker Spaniel Rescue (OBG) looking pretty sad.  He was sad and had been kicked and abused by a 6 year old child for months.  He was matted and miserable.   He was in no mental shape for a store groomer so I tackled it at home.  My patience and love persevered through his growls, bites and snaps.  At the end, he was wagging his tail in joy.    And yes, he was adopted shortly after he was groomed! A handsome boy!

The most incredible thing about moving away from my sexy city life to a quiet rural one is getting to grow out my body hair. Since landing my straight job, I haven’t had to groom myself with quite the meticulousness of a sexual professional. My new world involves very little paid nudity, and if it did, the techniques I would still be less inclined to pluck every single hair. This is Vermont. People up here just don’t put as much stock into hairlessness that more urban areas do. If I were shaved, someone in the audience might take a note on social trends or wonder if it itched, but I doubt anyone would be surprised or disappointed.

In the past four months, I’ve grown to really enjoy my new lengths of fur in various spots. For one, my eyebrows are slightly bushier than usual. My body hair is very light to begin with and I doubt most of my clients would even notice the wild hair here and there. Oh, except for that one fetishist who said he considered eyebrow waxing to be extremely erotic…he would notice for sure. Just him.

Next stop on the body hair line are my armpits. Glorious are the tiny tufts of dark hair sprouting proudly from beneath my shoulders! The patch takes about two months to foster into a full bed, and by the time it’s complete, takes the shape of a soft diamond. For a rock show on Halloween, I attempted to buzz lightening bolts into my armpit patches, which would have been an astoundingly bad ass bit of fashion. Unfortunately, the irregular grain of the hair made making shapes impossible and I was left with two scraggly little scribbles of fuzz. Defeated, I shaved the rest off and was prone to furiously scratching the tender flesh as new hair pushed it’s way through the follicles. I’ve discovered that since I don’t shave daily now, my pits have become more sensitive and even break out in faint razor burn after I groom. In any event, I could give or take the armpit hair. I don’t see what the big deal is about having it or not. Just for the sake of counterculture, I think it’s kinda sexy for a girl to go full bush up there.

Moving on, or rather, down. I’ve always had a glimmer of a happy trail. It’s composed of about five hairs that can grow to a considerable length, a little under an inch, if they aren’t plucked. Since they are so easy to reach, I could often pinch each one between my fingertips and pull them out in the shower. Now that I’m living in a place where hair is everywhere, I’ve almost forgotten that they exists. This would be the sort of thing, however, that a john kissing down my belly before a fuck would notice, and if he’s socially conditioned, gag over. Jasper thinks it’s cute, so for now, the curly strays stay.

Ahh…pubic hair. This region is my ultimate struggle, the bane of my beauty regime. If not for the fact that it is seemingly impossible for me to clear my bikini line without an unimpressive array of ingrown hairs, I may be perfectly happy with my body now. I’m over the weight thing, the shape thing, but these little red bumps really put a damper in my professional fantasy life. That, and ass acne…argh…another post. I generally stick to shaving and have attempted various methods of exfoliating, moisturizing and praying in order to prevent the inevitable rash, with very little luck. While I was running my dungeon full time, I took to getting waxed in a fancy spa on Newbury Street. I imagined that at $60 a session, the little red bumps couldn’t even afford to bully their way into my loins. I was wrong, and shocked, when the ingrown hair crisis began anew, after my third excruciating Brazilian wax. Now that I rarely have to think of such things, I’ve let my pubes grow out as they will and take care to trim them and keep the patch tidy, mostly for my own comfort and standards. I’ve gone down on girls with less that spectacular hygiene, and I’ll tell you, it was hard to take. I’m trying to find that happy medium of being low maintenance and still feeling like a world class fuck when my lover gives me head. Of course, on the rare occassion that I take a weekend down in Boston to work or see my hot-older-couple-fuck-friends, I need to take the dive and really shave. Everything underneath goes and the sides get a nice diamond chop. I’ll admit, it’s cute, but the razor burn! Unsightly. I’ve resorted to exfoliating for a few days before hand, doing the deed, then trying mightily to keep the tender area clean and buffed while the hair grows back. I’m always totally presentable for the few hours that I need to be, but as soon as work or fun is over, I’m back to growing my rough garden. When I do go back to full time work, I’m going to be awfully tempted to bring back the old fashion of a natural, but groomed, bush. I understand the love of hairless, prepubescent, vag, but mine would be a lot more appealing if it didn’t have to battle itself everyday.

Legs, legs, legs. I haven’t shaved my legs once in four months, and I don’t believe you would even notice. Bizarrely, my leg hair is virtually invisible. It can be felt upon touch, but otherwise is remarkably undetectable. This enabled me to get away with not always shaving my legs for most sexy gigs. I do have a two hour long foot session coming up in Boston next week, so I’ll not only have to shave, but give myself a really nice pedicure. I imagine it will take about three razors to accomplish this task, which is simply a waste. Yep, gotta shave the tops of my toes too…

In conclusion, I don’t look very different now than I did when I was ultra-groomed. It becomes harder and harder to imagine that a little hair makes such a difference. In the sex industry though, I know for sure that there is a standard. Christ, “hairy” is a fetish all of it’s own now. I am apprehensive to cater to society in this way in the future. Stripping seems like the hardest venue to get my hair accepted in. Maybe I’ll take a crack at an amateur night in some podunk NH town, just to see how my winter coat is received. I will be sure to keep you posted on the results and commentary, of which there will be plenty, I am sure.

I was lucky enough for my Philips (Smart Touch XL HQ9140) to break so (being as I had taken replacement cover) I was able to go for a different shaver. This time (simply as a decent mid-range model was a lot cheaper — and I also needed a good kettle ) I went for a Braun (Smartcontrol 4875).

I was surprised at the difference in quality. The Braun feels like a decent shaver, whereas the expensive Philips effort felt more like a cheap shaver in an expensive shell. True, this doesn’t look as snazzy — and isn’t going to give the impression (unlike the mini spaceship like Philips complete with docking station) that your lair is something out of an FHM photoshoot — but, if what you’re looking for is a strong solid cut, then this will do fine. What it lacks in looks, it makes up for in engine power. There is a nice deep buzzing sound, whereas the Philips was pretty tinny. Cutting too is much improved; it gives a more satisfying cutting sound and feeling, and seems to cut closer with less iritation.

The only problem is that the sideburn attachment isn’t as easy to use as a Philips for cutting nostril hair. The good thing is though that if you look around it comes with a free Braun Precision Trimmer (a seperate unit shaped like a pen), which is more accurate and easier to use than a Philips (this also comes with tiny, clipper-like guards for tidying up your eyebrows). Even if you can’t find this free, the combined cost is still far cheaper than a mid-range Philips.

What can accentuate your profile, distract attention from facial irregularities, while underscoring your best features? Sideburns.

Facial hair such as sideburns, beards, and moustaches can provide a more cut and masculine effect. Out of them all, sideburns are arguably the easiest to maintain and pull off.

Customary, fail-safe sideburns end at the midpoint of your ears.  Not only do they suit all hair styles, but they also balance out both unusually weak and large chins. If you’re feeling experimental, go for a longer length: have your sideburns stretch down to your earlobes and jaw line. This creates a more dramatic (badass) effect.

Beware of the difference between overgrown scalp hair on the sides of your face, and actual sideburns. Having scalp hair stand in for sideburns = fashion faux paus. You won’t be fooling anybody. If your sideburns are not naturally full, simply keep them trimmed short. It’s a timeless style that’s easy to maintain.

The bottoms of sideburns can be pointed, squared, or flared (like mutton chops). From what we’ve observed, sharper chins suit pointed sideburns while blunt chins are best paired with squared sideburns. But don’t limit yourself; have fun with different styles.

Let me start off this post by clarifying what the title means, when I say I work for anyone that pays me, it’s not anything sexual… Well it can be if the right ladies ask, just kidding…

I just feel that I have so many different types of jobs that it literally feels like all someone has to do is say, I will pay you $XXX to do work this gig and tons of thoughts race to my mind on what I can do with the money… So lets take a look at what i am currently doing for money…

I work a regular 9-5 job at a Marketing Company which I hate…Not only do I hate it, I hate everyone that works here as well.  I also run a dog grooming business with my lovely fiance…mind you, when I say run a dog grooming business, that means I drive her to groom the dogs (house call dog grooming business) and I wash them, I take all the appointments and interact with all the customers…. On the weekends, when I am not dog grooming, I work for a friend of mine that runs a photo booth company…. What’s a photo booth company you ask?  Well that is a company that rents out photo booths for special occassions such as weddings, bah mitzvahs and Sweet 16’s… Believe, I come across alot of interesting people… and to top that all off, I do all of this because I failed miserably in the music industry where my true passion lies.  But thats a whole other blog in itself…

So that’s me in a nutshell… Stick around for some stories that I encounter as I work for anyone that pays me….

I grew up in a suburb trying to find a good haircut.  I would often get fit in right after my sister or the seat next to her.  I had a great hair dresser for many years, and then moved.  I have tried Great Clips, and Sport Clips.  They both were just pretty cheap and easy haircuts.

I found the best haircut in a traditional barber shop.  I found it after walking around in a new city.  I had never been to a traditional barbershop, and thought they would not give me a good haircut.  It was not just a good haircut, it was the best one I had ever had.  I was shaved with a straight razor, and warm foam.  Why have men stopped going to barber shops?  I will not go anywhere but a barbershop again.  It was a great haircut, at a good price.  Men should go to barber shops.  Lesson in growing up I guess.
