</strong>Groos Bank and Store is opened for business.  This building, at the corner of Commerce and Navarro (then known as Groos Alley) is first building specifically for banking in San Antonio.</p>
<p><strong>1910</strong><br />
Much attention is given to the operation of automobiles in the new ordinance.  No greater speed than 15 miles per hour within the city limits is permitted.</p>
<p><strong>1940</strong><br />
A statue of Popeye, made here by taxidermist Monroe Nowotny, was made ready for a jaunt to Crystal City, the spinach capital, for exhibition.</p>
