Nästa gång jag kollar upp smäller dörrarna igen på spårvagnen jag ska ta. Jag rusar men chauffören är kort ikväll och vill hem. Febrilt tryckande på knappen och en menande min går inte igenom hans yrkesskal. Så valet mellan att vänta ytterligare tjugo minuter och gå i regnet hem uppstår, vilket blir enkelt när ilskan skakar i mig. De kvarstående resenärerna lägger sina huvuden på sned och tycker synd om mig. Jag svarar med att vända dem ryggen och traska hemåt över mörka Heden, Mars. Matti blir blöt i ansiktet och irritationen suddar bort det jag nyss tänkte om hur han lever, eller ja hur vi väljer att leva våra liv.

Here is a recording of The Warm Sounds Live show on Pirate Revival net radio from Tuesday evening, 2hrs of randomly selecting tunes and putting them in the mix. The Warm Sounds Show is still in its infancy and has been running for little over 6 months, it is very organic, and requires no pre-planning or programming, just simply selecting tunes that spring to mind at the time and play what is being felt. It is completely live, so warts and all are included, no rewind or retakes (for those that need to know the hardware used… 2 x SL1210’s, 2 x Pioneer CDJ’s & a Mixer). The show goes out live on Pirate Revival every other Tuesday evening between 6pm-8pm GMT, and is just intended as bit of fun by playing good music to friends and music lovers. It is not “old Skool” centric, in truth playing the same 88-93 records over and over again for the last decade has become a little tiresome so this show explores other musical interests, although a nod to a much loved and influential era of my life can be felt and heard…..apologies in advanced for the lack of mic skills.

Groove Armada recently signed with Om Records and are set to release a brand new album “BlackLight” with them in February 2010. This is the first single from said album -  “I Won’t Kneel.”

I really like this. Simple, very well executed, and feels like the first video to move the whole 80’s/electro thing forwards visually rather than just dredging up tired retro cliches.

Fick direkt en “det-här-låter-bekant-känsla” när jag hörde introt till den här. De har ju lixom rippat idén till sitt groove från en annan gammal favorit och tillika Maydayklassiker som kom några år tidigare.

Håll med om att det skulle vara kul att börja leka och mixa de här två låtarna med varandra och se vad man kan få för kul resultat. Sen innehåller Sizzles låt fler såna igenkänningsfaktorer men just nu har jag för mycket gröt i skallen för att riktigt komma på vad det är jag är ute och letar efter.

Hey guys, lately there’s been so much talk about what makes a person sexy. Should you believe all the hype? Let’s face it; we live in a visual world that is highly controlled by major media outlets like, reality television, music videos, magazines, newspapers, and fashion designers. They all have a huge influence on nearly every aspect of our lives, everything from what we eat, wear, where we live, who we should or shouldn’t date, and what our bodies should or shouldn’t look like.

Yet today the million dollar question still remains, “What is Sexy; is it truly in eye of the bolder, or is it in the hands of the money makers? Can we honestly make unfiltered individual choices about what sexy is and what it really means?

Many media outlet say it’s all about image and having the perfect package. Their emphasis and primary focus usually caters to what’s current, young, and hot! So I ask do we no longer need to be able to think for ourselves. Or have our media outlets taken complete control over what we think sexy should be.

Well, maybe this is a question you might have to decide for yourself. However, here’s a list that I’ve composed of what some adults are saying, “What they think is Sexy.” The results just might surprise you.

Yet the big question here is how many of their answers are similar to your own, and if not, will they rub off? Will it make you think about your own life, or will you just go with the flow and let society/media dictate what it means to you. How can you Develop Your Own Sexiness?

Sexy is natural, being yourself.
Sexy is having a nice swagger/walk.
Stronger enough for man but made for a woman.

Mathieu Chédid n’avait pas sorti d’album depuis un bon moment (5 ans depuis son « Qui de nous deux » rose bonbon). Il a changé de couleur, il est passé au noir & blanc. J’ai toujours apprécié le bonhomme notamment pour ses prestations live qui ne permettent pas de douter une fraction de seconde que c’est un des meilleurs show man du paysage musical français. Capable de faire hocher de la tête chacun de nous comme des pigeons pendant ses concerts, il met le feu, communique son énergie positive, son groove.

Mister Mystère est un joli retour. Un peu nostalgique du groove du premier album et pas vraiment emballé par le dernier, j’attendais qu’il me surprenne à nouveau. On ne peut pas parler de surprise en tant que telle. On retrouve tout ce qui fait le son -M- : ses riffs (Est-ce que c’est ça ?), ses petites envolées vocales. Pourtant on perçoit à la première écoute que quelque chose a changé. Démonstration par l’exemple avec le titre de promo de l’album : Le roi des ombres. Same same, but different.

-M- en fait moins, et propose une version plus épurée (Phébus), plus sexuée (Tanagra) et plus rock (Destroy) de sa musique. Quelque chose d’un peu plus authentique selon moi. Si vous lisez quelques interviews dans la presse, on vous parlera de maturité, passage à la vie adulte et autres trucs dans le genre. A vous de voir.

L’album a été fait en famille Chédid (Papa, soeurettes & co…). -M- reprendra pour l’occasion un titre de son père : Hold-up.  Il est même allé jusqu’à se  séparer de son tandem basse / batterie ; BumCello. Reste Cyril Atef à la batterie (sur l’album). Ségal fera une brève apparition sur un seul titre de l’album. Exit Seb Martel à la 2ème gratte.

-M- c’est aussi une grosse ribambelle d’artistes qui se connaissent et jouent ensemble. Jouez un peu à voir avec qui traîne Mathieu Chédid et vous aller tirer une grosse dizaine d’artistes français (Boogaerts, Durtronc fils, Vanessa Paradis, Bumcello, Arthur H. …) Cela se concrétise sur l’album un morceau avec les brillants Amadou & Maryam avec Amssétou.

Dans la même lignée un très bon moment télévisuel à regarder : le Taratata où -M- fait sa promo Mister Mystère et où il fait un duo avec le groovissime General Elektrik. Encore un gars qu’il connaît de longue date (ils ont notamment partagé une collaboration respective avec Seb  Martel). Reprise de Mélody Nelson entre ces deux pantins animés du même groove. Enorme.

M / GENERAL ELEKTRIKS : Medley “Melody Nelson”

Mister Mystère n’est pas une transformation de -M-. Il se débarrasse simplement de quelques paillettes en trop et laisse son alter ego dévoiler son essentiel.

The amazing local beatboxer/rapper Heatbox will be performing with the unique electronica/jam/funk sound of Roster McCabe live at the Cabooze in Minneapolis Thursday, November 26th, 2009!

These two bands live and together are a must see!

This show will be $10 for anyone 18+ and $7 for anyone 21+!

This will be the last post on humanizing your drum tracks for a while.  I have a few final tips to share:

1.  Remember that a drummer has only two hands, so do not have more than three drums sounds playing al at once that are hit by the hands (such as crash, snare, tom).

2.  Another way to lend variety in your tracks is by changing the parts of the kit you play in different sections.  An example of this would be playing mostly closed hihats in the verse but mostly open hihats in the chorus.

3.  Use of delay and reverb (but judiciously) on your drums (perhaps not the kick though) can make them sound more alive.

4.  Programming some slight tempo changes in the drum tracks helps add a human element.  No drummer can possibly play at a robotic tempo for an entire song.  An example of this would be increasing by BPM by one or two ticks in the chorus.

5.  Consider taking out the beat for a measure or two at transition points in a song.  If it sounds weird, use a fill to go into silence or go back into the beat.

6.  Most importantly, I keep repeating this because it IS that important.  Always use a variety of rhythms and variations to those rhythms through a given song.  Don’t loop the same two bars over and over!
