The grass and various ground vegetation has sprung up and the leaves are in profusion on the tree. Even the sun shone between fitful rain and hail showers and although the temperature was rather cool it wan’t that sharp cold of winter.

Some people often leave out food for the birds, but Sam works to dog rules. That is, if the food is unattended and he can get to it then it's his.

]]> <![CDATA[Ice Formations at Bond Head , Lake Ontario]]> http://janewalkerscards.com/2012/02/29/ice-formations-at-bond-head-lake-ontario/ Wed, 29 Feb 2012 16:02:03 +0000 janewalkerscards http://janewalkerscards.com/2012/02/29/ice-formations-at-bond-head-lake-ontario/ It’s hard to believe that this is the last day of February and we’ve had only 2 or 3 inches of snow all winter and unusually mild temperatures until now. Over the past 2 weeks we’ve had only a light dusting of snow but there were a few days with very high winds and below zero temperatures.

On one of these wildly windy days, I headed down to Bond Head park to see the pounding surf and was not disappointed. The waves were crashing over the breakwall and ice was starting to build up on the beacon at the mouth of Newcastle Marina . Then I looked to the east along the shore and that’s when I noticed the ice hanging from the few trees and shrubs. The pounding surf and cold air had created an amazing sight……icicles hanging from branches and enclosing some of the ground vegetation. It was a photo opportunity not to be missed!

Although the lighting wasn’t ideal, I took lots of pictures that day and then returned with a photographer friend on Sunday. With the sun shining brightly and a lovely blue sky, we got some amazing shots that I’d like to share with you.
