Guido Schneider = human groovebox

My favorite deejay at the time would have to be Guido Schneider, from Germany. My first experience with his music was at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival in May, 2007. Guido came on around 5 p.m. on the first day of the three-day festival. His set consisted of 90 minutes of phenomenal dance music, and what really blew me away was that it was all his material!!

This guy took his music to another level, and had me dancing my ass off throughout his whole set. Many of my friends agreed that Guido really tore the roof off that tent with a really groovy set. I have many tracks produced by Guido Schneider, which I enjoy playing when I deejay. I believe Guido has really mastered the correct formula to create a danceable groove monster for the dance floor. I just love almost all of Guido’s productions and was jumping for joy the following time we saw him perform.

We drove up to New York a year later for a music festival at Coney Island. Many artists were going to perform, and Guido was on the lineup. My wife and I were so pumped and excited to see him again. Guido ended up playing on a Sunday afternoon and the weather was perfect. We had a blast and drove back home reminiscing about the great festival.

On March 12, 2009, we were once again treated to another brilliant set of my man, Guido Schneider. My good friend and promoter, David, booked him for a party that he throws every Thursday in D.C. We were happy to hear that Guido was playing in out hometown, and we would not have to drive far to catch his show (even though we probably would, as long as it was on the east coast!)

I hope the promoters of the Detroit Electronic Music Festival booked Guido for next year’s festival that will take place on Memorial Day weekend, 2010. Even so, the festival is a guaranteed good time, since there are always new talent heard every year. I also hope that Mr. Schneider starts releasing more productions. My wish for New Years would be to spend it jamming out to his performance, which will probably be somewhere in Europe, but it’s something definitely attainable with a bit of planning.

I am a music junkie, and I love listening to music that moves me. My wife and I have traveled throughout the country in the past to catch some memorable performances. We used to be more into the genre of trance music, and followed our favorite deejay at the time, Paul Van Dyk, for many years. We’ve seen Paul perform in D.C., New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Miami, Boston and Spain. I believe Guido has the potential to step into the place that Paul was in as our favorite artist.

Guido Schneider knows the groove, to make you move. He also looks like a pretty down to earth guy. I gave him props after his performance in New York that time, and he was very appreciative as well. Guido’s production’s pack a punch that move a dance floor and keep the vibe going until the next track is played.

Waar Great Stuff onlangs nog haar vijfjarig jubileum vierde, is Poker Flat Recordings van eigenaar Steve Bug inmiddels toe aan het dubbele. Een decennium aan minimal maakt je automatisch een van de grondleggers van het genre dat tegenwoordig zeer breed gedragen wordt. Veel materiaal voor een jublieum cd dus.

Op de eerste cd staan tracks die exclusief op het label zijn verschenen, onder andere van Guido Schneider, John Tejada, Burnski en uiteraard Bug zelf. Daarna volgen recente tracks en tot slot een selectie van de grootste klappers van Poker Flat Recordings uit het verleden. Leuk om terug te horen, maar de echt oude tracks klinken uiteraard achterhaald. Je moet daarmee dan ook wel een band hebben, wil je het nu kunnen waarderen. Er staan voor de afwisseling ook nieuwere klassiekers op, zoals de fantastische electronica track Always Something Better van Trentemoller waarmee de drie cd’s tot een einde komen. Alle tracks zijn los en zijn daarmee ideaal voor de dj of verzamelaar.

Als luisteraar had ik graag een mix van Steve Bug gezien met een thema, zoals bijvoorbeeld een evolutiemix van minimal of zijn persoonlijke favorieten tracks. Daarvoor heeft Bug tevens een compilatie gemaakt, genaamd “Time Flies 1998-2008″.

Hoogtepunten op All In! 10 Years of Poker Flat komen vooral uit de hoek waarvan je ze verwacht, maar ook van artiesten als Clé, D.H.S. (House of God is mijn persoonlijke favoriet van de cd’s), Ryo Murakami en Dan Berkson & James What. De rest is misschien wat vlak om als losse nummer te luisteren. Echter, op drie cd’s staat waarschijnlijk voor ieder wat wils. 3/5

Two relatively new names, Alex Niggemann and Marc Poppcke, one brand spanking new sub label, [Moonpool] and three solid house tracks.My favourite remix on the EP Agnes’s “Chicago take” is one long groove, quite basic but works wonderfully well. This talented Swiss producer basically strips the track down & add’s a repetitive female vocal which may i add is very early 90’s & very fitting for the current 2008 deep house style. (click derecho descarga)

Who is Arto Mwambé? (Phillip Lauer) is he really from Africa or is he in fact another Producer going under another alias (as some people are speculating he is). Mix de danse, like his excellent Mudhutma! EP takes in 90’s style house music & blends it with his own unique style by using swirling electrofied bass lines, smooth synths and some African style percussion, blending it all together with some very 90’s sounding vocals and you have a dance version of your Nations national anthem…. well not quite as simple but still.

ARTO MWAMBE-Une Seule Nuit (Mix De Danse)

Well this is what I call a powerfull release. Supreme build, no fuzz, just a solid vibe and damn that drum vibrates through the room. In the likes of recent dubfire releases and an absolute killer in my opinion.Perfectly suited for mixing purposes and an overwhelming joy when you open the low tones to release that beat. If you haven’t got a copy of this record yet than hurry up caus I think that this will be ’sold out’ very fast.

Someone Else takes the reins for the impish minimal energies of ‘You Don’t Got Me’, which in this digital format is accompanied by a great MRI remix, carefully reducing the components down to a bottom-heavy combination of woozy, detuning basslines and clanking beat edits.

“Like a Motherless Child,” a fine record which suffers for an unavoidable similarity to Claude VonStroke’s “Who’s Afraid of Detroit?” That same thudding, juddering bassline is expertly mixed with what sounds like a sample of a steam engine from an old movie. A bluesy vocal sample heightens the strange 2008 KLF feeling, warbling “sometimes I feel like a motherless child.” If you could just stop hearing Claude VonStroke over this, it’d be the perfect end to a brilliant EP, but this writer can’t. Still, there’s so much individuality on offer in the first two tracks that dOP are easily forgiven. This may be outsider house, but dOP are breaking the door down.

Produced with NYC Wolf + Lamb’s Mizrahi, Herlin’s bouncy and heavy groove has got me spell-bound. Add tasty shaky percussion, subtle saxophone hits and wacky arpeggios and classy pads and you’ve got a sexy tune that never gets cheesy or soft, staying elegant in true gangsta house style.

Solid groove and that melancholic feel, you know there ain’t no landing possible for the next few hours, it only goes upwards from here. Since I no longer have any free time, the blog will be up only once a week, probably more than one song a week to branch out in different genres of house music but yeah, I dunno how often Damien will wanna post on here, but as far as I’m concerned it’ll be relatively only on Saturdays, or if I really found a song I want to share with you.

Alright than if you don’t know who Guido Schneider, well you’re in the boat with a bunch of people, although he’s been producing great track after great track since the early 1990’s he’s been able to stay relatively underground. I love the production on this song it’s amazing, if I close my eyes I see a dim lit room with a sultry damsel laying on the bed and you move towards her, and you just whisper, lets pretend there’s something going on, it’s too late.

Lee Mortimer has been making waves with wavy synths destroying ear buds with his disgusting sleaze filled fidget house. This song is amazing the bass makes me wanna shake, the synth drives me insane, and the vocals are something to scream out in the club or at the party.

ok, back to the beat. normally i find myself cycling through sets at a very quick rate. it seems like most barely keep my attention for more than a week or so… recently, there have been a couple that have been on repeat. first, is the guido schneider set i posted earlier. if you didn’t take my advice and grab it then, do so now. second, the DBX livepa and discussion got me in the more for some more bell, so i tracked down this oldie. and it is simply superb.

Para este fin de semana hay menuda agenda cultural, de ocio y diversión para todo tipo de gustos y variedad de ambientes, sonidos, tempos, personas, olores, texturas, sabores, etc.

Para comenzar, el jueves 29 habrá una antesala llena de sabor a té, antes del cierre definitivo de la galería, por parte de armando manzano & leo dano, los grandes de la canción que sonaran después de sus teloneros y retratistas de parranda, medetrash*.

Es menester recordar, que este espacio reunió personas que desarrollan ciertas actividades. Dichas actividades no sólo comprenden la composición musical, o las presentaciones en vivo. También forman parte de ello los artistas gráficos que concretan la imagen de los músicos y del sitio, los dj’s y por supuesto el público, del cual siempre en la Galeria 10-36 estuvieron preocupados por brindarles incansablemente un lugar donde pudieran disfrutar de la cultura.

El viernes la música nos llevará al club La Kasa, donde acompañado por Christopher y Akademik estará Z@p, dj /productor de Montevideo-Uruguay, integrante y artista del netlabel Ouzomusic, dando cátedra de house y techno con influencia del minimal techno, un contundente live act por solo 10.000 absurdos pesos oro.

Para el sábado estarán en Horeb Cohete, Demoe y RadioKilla (Bogotá), en el acostumbrado último sábado de cada mes a cargo de Discos Cocinados, esta vez con música cargada de sonidos quebrados y drum n bass!

Y finalmente como dejar pasar que Medellín se prepara para recibir por primera vez a Guido Schneider.

Un artista que se ha empeñado en llevar el funk alemán electrónico hasta sus últimas consecuencias, dejando atrás totalmente los sonidos repetitivos, monótonos y formuládos, para generar sus propias atmósferas altamente disfrutables y es que como todo artista high class, podremos encontrar toda clase de elementos house, techno, electro y minimal, fusionados perfectamente para no regalarte ni un segundo de descanso.

Guido Schneider este implicat in industria muzicala de mai bine de 10 ani, dar a cunoscut adevaratul success abia dupa primul release la Pokerflat, in 2002. Recent, alaturi de amicul sau, Sammy Dee a lucrat la cateva materiale sub numele Schneider & Radecki, iar rezultatul a fost o piesa semnata la Pokerflat care a fost inclusa pe compilatia lui Richie Hawtin, ‘DE9: Transitions’.
Argy este considerat un tanar talent pe scena muzicii tech house si minimal, dar avand in vedere ca se afla “sub protectia” unor nume mari, printre care si Schneider, talentul sau in DJing nu este ignorat, iar la capitolul productie lucreaza la materiale pentru Pokerflat si Cocoon Recordings.
