Creative? Certainly, and pretty cool if it’s the first time you’ve seen it. Long-term readers though, may be reminded of this Tetris video that I posted back in February last year:

Knowing of that, I would have been very surprised if Swiss artist Guillaume Reymond hadn’t also produced a Pole Position video, and indeed he has:

Albeit not as good as the Tetris video, which the music adds a great deal to. Click on either of those videos to see many more human versions of classic arcade games in his “GAME OVER Project,” and apologies for the slight misnomer in the title, although the Korean “Show” version still seemed worth posting!

Recuerdo que cuando era pequeño y veía programas de predicciones de la tecnología, nos prometían para el año 2000 carros voladores, pistolas de láser pero sobre todo robots por doquier de todos los tamaños, funciones y formas! Estamos en el 2008 y la mitad de las cosas que nos prometerion no han aparecido… Al parecer el artista Francés-Suizo Guillaume Reymond piensa igual que yo y llevó a cabo El proyecto “Transformers”.

“Transformers” utiliza diferentes tipos de vehículos, según el tipo de vehículos realiza una coreografía precisa y elaborada para crear lo que se ve desde el cielo como gigantescos robots. El proyecto lo hizo en tres partes: la primera parte del proyecto se llevó a cabo en la gran plaza de Vevey, Suiza, donde utilizó ambulancias, camiones de bomberos y vehículos en las carreteras. La segunda parte la conformó 12 autobuses y la tercera no menos interesante que las demás usó bicicletas.

Dato interesante:
Guillaume Reymond, fue el ganador del Youtube Video Awards 2007 con su proyecto Game Over (Tetris).

Game Over es uno de los proyectos artísticos desarrollados por el artista francosuizo Guillaume Reymond.

Consiste en una serie de animaciones colaborativas que reviven algunos de los videojuegos más conocidos. Los pixels son reemplazados por un grupo de personas que se mueven de un asiento a otro de un teatro durante 4 ó 6 horas. Cada “píxel” tiene sus propias reglas y decide lo que quiere hacer en cada imagen. Al final todas estas imágenes se convierten en una corta película de animación, un videojuego a escala huma que se desarrolla “en vivo”.

Recojo aquí, una de las animaciones que se corresponden al videojuego de Space Invaders.

Vous l’aurez compris, au musée, on fait partie des fans de Guillaume Reymond, l’homme qui arrive à remplacer les pixels par des humains, ou qui s’amuse avec de vrais camions de pompiers.

Dans, la série qui fait se transformer tout ce qui roule en robot géant, cet artiste pas si bruyant  et youtubement consacré vient de mettre en ligne le making of de Transformers, version “cycliste lausannois”.

Et cela ne fait que commencer…

Et là, je n’ai qu’un, ou plutôt deux mots à dire : bravo et merci ! J’en ai rêvé, Guillaume Reymond l’a fait (et bien d’autres choses aussi, dont une série très réussie de Transformers en véhicules utilitaires à découvrir notamment ici). J’aime tout particulièrement la musique réinterpétrée ! Ahh Tétris… Ah quand une version humaine des stupides lagomorphes ?

Images are to Vevey, what jazz is to Montreux and classical music is to Lucerne. Kicking off on 11 September, Images ‘08 will again celebrate Vevey’s pivotal role in photography and the visual arts. But when in Vevey, you won’t need to go to this year’s biennale, it will come to you. The entire city landscape will be spiked with dreamy images and inspiring events in an art free-for-all that takes place over 20 days until 30 September.

Branded “City of Images”, Vevey is home to a photography school and a camera museum, as well as the Swiss National Centre of Drawings – which now extends to cartoons and comic strips – at the Jenisch Museum. To anchor its reputation in this field, Vevey launched the Images festival in 1995, but recent editions attracted mainly the cognescenti. Now, Stefano Stoll, the city’s cultural delegate and festival director, wants “art to be at the heart of everyday life” and to come to us. He has chosen a theme for this year’s edition that is clearly designed to put us in(side) the picture. A play on the word “Scale”- as in models, in life, in relationships and in movement – is the driving idea behind the festival.

A teaser took place on 26th August, when Guillaume Reymond of You Tube fame – his Tetris has now been viewed over 12 million times since it won the 2007 You Tube Creativity Awards – engineered a monumental Spielberg look-alike Transformer on Vevey’s main square. Seen at ground level, the fleet of the commune’s utility vehicles looked like they were lining up for a crooked parade. But as filmed from a zeppelin above, the orchestration suddenly made visual sense as a Transformer emerged from the frozen motorcade.

The festival takes place all over Vevey, with several happenings programmed on the first weekend. The exhibitions, inside and outdoors, last for the duration of the festival.

The outdoor exhibitions, dotted around the city, present large-scaled images by more than 20 photographers, some of world fame.

Julia Fullerton-Batten’s silent teenage girls in gleaming undersized decors still adorn the Teen City poster for the current (and unrelated) exhibition at the Elysée Museum in Lausanne. The British artist is raking in international prizes for her exquisite and telling compositions.

Reiner Riedler’s Artificial Holidays has Superman flying past the Kremlin and an indoor skiing hall in Dubai. Defeating gravity, Denis Darzacq’s Icaruses tend to fall sideways or upwards, whereas Vincent Fournier‘s astronaut appears to be inconveniently glued to flock wallpaper. There is an element of pathos and comicality in all these pictures.

The same cannot be said of two major American artists whose works are prominently featured. Chris Jordan, a lawyer by trade, transforms the horrors of mass consumption into patterns of obsessive beauty. His spent bullet casings and discarded mobile phones, in Jackson-Pollock-like scatterings, will be visible at the Vevey train station, but take a look on his web site at the worrying constellations of Barbies and serpents of disposable plastic cups.

In an ominous foretelling to the subprime crisis, Peter Garfield’s flying mobile homes, about to crash and disintegrate, appear in monumental form on the side of a silo in Vevey that will soon also disappear. In addition, a solo exhibition is fittingly, and humorously, housed under the Medeival gables of the Musée Historique de Vevey.

Gilbert Garcin at the Galerie Clément is another must. A Magritte-like figure stands in dull poses in enigmatic matchbox environments that look like they will shatter at the slightest move. Garcin is an 80 year-old former lampshade factory director whose retirement has become a shop floor for creativity.

Images ’08 naturally includes a film program at the Rex Cinema that is celebrating its 75th birthday. With a tribute to funny films, including by Vevey’s most famous former inhabitant, as well as pictures that feature photographers as their heroes, the shows at the Rex will be the only part of the festival with an entrance fee (CHF 10).

Last but not least, international contests crown the laureates of the European Grand Prix of First Films , as well as the Vevey International Grand Prix of Photography.

Stoll is a proponent of creative art and intelligent patronage. He belongs to a rare breed of cultural managers who not only speaks, but acts. He recently caused a stir by responding indignantly to declarations of negative fatalism proffered by the Director of Pro Helvetia, the equivalent of the Arts Council. The ensuing cultural debate seems to have sent the wheels into gear, especially at federal level.

The urban branding of Vevey as “A city of images” preceded him, but Stoll has given it greater relevance, including by positioning Vevey as a film location paradise. This year’s edition of Images ’08 is meant to seduce and will no doubt prove that art can be popular, unpretentious, fun and enlightening.

For those of you that don’t already know, I LOVE LOVE LOVE stop motion animation.  I love to make stop motion animations, I love to think about stop motion animations and I love to look around on YouTube for hours for cool stop motion animations.

I decided to put together a small collection of some of my favorite stop motion animations so here they are!

This first is a white board animation by “Ljudbilden & Piloten”.  You must watch it, it is amazing.

Next is a must see for all Tetris fans…  It’s “Human Tetris” directed by the Swiss artist Guillaume Reymond.  He also did Human animations for other games including Space Invaders and Pong.  You can watch them here.

Next is a really cool stop motion animation created on Post It notes, like a flip book.  The video, created by “TheGaurk” (sorry, I don’t have a name) was made by drawing on nearly 770 Post It notes!

Finally, here is a really cool stop motion animation by PES, who I wrote a post about a few weeks ago.  It’s probably the tastiest fireplace ever!

Le journal de la mi-journée sur TSR présentait aujourd’hui un reportage sur le dernier projet de Guillaume Reymond, artiste veveysan ayant remporté le Youtube Video Awards 2007 avec son Game Over Project (Tetris), à re/voir à la fin de ce billet.

Le premier volet de cette nouvelle performance a eu lieu le mardi 26 août dernier sur la grande place de Vevey, après la conférence de presse qui marquait le lancement du festival Images’08, et a mobilisé les véhicules de service de la ville. Un ballet d’ambulances, de camions de pompiers et de véhicules de la voirie s’est donc déroulé sous le “regard” d’un zeppelin photographique.

Guillaume Reymond joue encore une fois avec une référence très populaire et recrée à sa manière les robots géants qui envahissent la planète en trois temps. Les deux autres volets de la performance annoncent une version “rétro bus” et une version “vélos”. La vidéo du premier événement ainsi que les photographies (portraits robots) seront présentées durant le Festival Images’08 du 11 au 30 septembre 2008 à Vevey.

A años luz del Tetris humano de Marley, Guillaume Reymond recrea videojuegos usando sólo un salón grande con butacas y muchos pero muchos amigos. Al final, en los créditos, figuran todos los que participaron (su rol es simplemente pixel) y son como mil.

Una proeza de la planificación y del montaje y un muy gracioso, y económico, trabajo de sonido.
