<p>Al suo esordio alla regia, <strong>Guillermo Arriaga </strong>ci mostra le vicissitudini e i segreti di donne di generazioni diverse, storie (apparentemente) diverse basate sui quattro elementi di fuoco, terra, acqua, aria.</p>
<p><!--more--> <em><br />
</em>La critica si è divisa nel giudicare il film.<br />
Si va da <em>&#8220;Il messicano Guillermo Arriaga si è fatto un nome a Hollywood con delle sceneggiature di forte impegno… Adesso passa anche alla regia… e porta sullo schermo un suo testo che, come i precedenti, svela ad ogni passo intelligenza e sapienza, consentendogli una rappresentazione carica di intense suggestioni visive&#8221; </em>(Il Tempo), <em>&#8220;&#8230;un film commovente, denso di sentimento ed emotivamente coinvolgente&#8221;</em> (FilmUp), <em>&#8220;Un ottimo film&#8221; </em>(Spaziofilm.it) a <em>&#8220;&#8230;un cervellotico esercizio di scrittura con pochi momenti emozionanti&#8221;</em> (Variety), <em>&#8220;&#8230;la moltiplicazione dei drammi si fa meccanica e la poetica si trasforma in banale puzzle mentale, che non coinvolge né tantomeno lascia tracce nel cuore&#8221;</em> (Ciak), <em>&#8220;<strong> </strong>La pianura di Arriaga brucia senza capo né coda&#8221; </em>(La Stampa).</p>
<p>Primo film americano ad essere presentato alla 65 Mostra di Venezia, parla di solitudine, di vendetta e di rimorso, di quanto sia difficile sfuggire al proprio passato&#8230; ma anche di come l&#8217;amore possa redimere e di come una seconda opportunità sia sempre possibile. Sottolinea giustamente Il Corriere della Sera però, il tema di fondo <em>&#8220;è quello delle responsabilità degli adulti verso i giovani e di come i figli cerchino, non sempre nel modo giusto, di fare i conti con quelle «colpe»&#8221;</em>.</p>
<p>Il celebrato sceneggiatore di González Iñárritu (<em>&#8220;Amores perros&#8221; &#8220;21 grammi&#8221; &#8220;Babel&#8221;</em>) e di Tommy Lee Jones (<em>&#8220;Le tre sepolture&#8221;</em>) ama le storie affastellate e interconnesse, con diversi personaggi ed episodi, e il tutto condito con sovrapposizioni tematiche e temporali (giustamente <strong>Guillermo Arriaga </strong>sostiene che chi racconta la propria vita lo fa senza seguire un ordine preciso). Molti hanno rimproverato al regista di insistere troppo con la struttura ellittica ad incastro: forse però era l&#8217;unico modo di rendere accettabile al pubblico d&#8217;oggi una storia che, raccontata linearmente, sa troppo di &#8220;feulletton&#8221; ottocentesco. Così costruito, il film, con i suoi innumerevoli flashback e nel suo opposto flashforward (il termine inglese, equivalente all&#8217;italiano &#8220;anticipazione&#8221;, indica una discontinuità nella successione temporale della narrazione, attuata attraverso l&#8217;anticipazione di un momento della storia che appartiene al futuro), inchioda lo spettatore alla poltrona, lo coinvolge e lo emoziona (spesso commuovendolo)</p>
<p><em><strong>The burning plain</strong></em> è un film sul dolore e sull&#8217;amore, sulla passione e sulla morte: forte, crudo (e al contempo toccante), dal notevole pathos, e che ha il pregio di suscitare più di una riflessione.<br />
Scritto con abilità e girato splendidamente tra l&#8217;Oregon e i deserti del Messico, il film dà massima importanza al paesaggio, fattore quasi determinante nel caratterizzare i sentimenti e gli umori dei vari personaggi (in una recente intervista il regista ha dichiarato: &#8220;<em>Volevo raccontare storie… in cui fossero la luce, i suoni gli animali e la vegetazione a dare uno spazio fisico ed emotivo ai personaggi, quasi come se il paesaggio stesso si facesse personaggio&#8221;</em>).</p>
<p>Un&#8217;opera da elogiare per abilità registica, cura al dettaglio e professionalità, un piccolo capolavoro di narrazione e di intreccio che si caratterizza, anche, per il suo andare contro-tendenza rispetto allo stile frenetico e nervoso oggi di moda.</p>
<p>Un piacere vedere recitare <strong>Charlize Theron </strong>e <strong>Kim Basinger </strong>(ma un plauso anche a <strong>Jennifer Lawrence</strong> che a Venezia ha conquistato il premio come giovane promessa per il futuro): ambedue da tempo liberatesi dal cliché di sex symbol, qui drammatiche e melanconiche, cupe e disperate… mai sopra le righe, intense e misurate al massimo. Una prova da grandi attrici in due ruoli certamente non facili. Brave è dir poco.</p>

<p>Au moment de créer la rubrique &#8220;Personne n&#8217;en parle !&#8221; avec Caro, j&#8217;avais décidé grâce à mon groupe de cinéphiles préféré de parler de <em>Head On</em> (ce que j&#8217;ai d&#8217;ailleurs fait..).</p>
<p>En réalité, celui dont j&#8217;avais désiré parler en tout premier et me l&#8217;étais interdit car la rubrique  n&#8217;existait pas encore est : <em>Loin de la terre brûlée</em> — en anglais <em>The Burning Plain, </em>sorti en 2008.</p>
<p>Un samedi soir seule chez moi&#8230; j&#8217;en ai, encore une fois, pris plein la figure.</p>
<p>3 femmes, 3 destins entremêlés avec 2 actrices magnifiques Kim Basinger (qui avait littéralement disparu de la circulation) et Charlize Théron..</p>
<p>Un réalisateur extraordinaire : Guillermo Arriaga, acteur, réalisateur, scénariste à la filmographie déconcertante puisqu&#8217;il est par ailleurs producteur des films d&#8217;<a title="Alejandro González Iñárritu" href="http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alejandro_Gonz%C3%A1lez_I%C3%B1%C3%A1rritu">Alejandro González Iñárritu</a> : les démentiels <em>Amours chien</em><em>nes</em>, <em>21 Grammes</em> et <em>Babel</em> (je suis fan à 500% des 3 !!!). Il  a aussi remporté en <a title="2005 au cinéma" href="http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005_au_cin%C3%A9ma">2005</a> le <a title="Prix du scénario (Festival de Cannes)" href="http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prix_du_sc%C3%A9nario_(Festival_de_Cannes)">Prix du Meilleur Scénario</a> au <a title="Festival de Cannes" href="http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Festival_de_Cannes">Festival de Cannes</a> pour <em><a title="Trois Enterrements" href="http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trois_Enterrements">Trois Enterrements</a></em>.</p>
<p>Scénario violent&#8230; Tout en émotions, expressions, personnages (si beaux !) aux destins broyés, morcelés par le réalisateur qui peut à peu reconstitue le puzzle pour le plus grand bonheur de la spectatrice que je suis qui se laisse conduire.. (ce qui n&#8217;arrive pas souvent <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':-)' class='wp-smiley' />  )</p>

<p>Well. Well, well, well. So I begin.</p>
<p>Last night I popped The Burning Plain into my DVD player and settled down to watch, knowing nothing about it other than it starred Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger and was the project of the guy who did Babel and 21 Grams. These facts obviously then led me on to the rather troubling question – why has nobody seen this film?! You’d think with such a strong creative team behind it, it would at least have a bit of notoriety. In fact, I had read about its troubling theatrical run in the UK some months previous, where it struggled to make even £10,000. Oh well, I thought, let’s bung it in and have a bit of Charlize. Although she’s not an absolute favourite of mine I’m very much in the pro-Theron camp; even if Monster didn’t actually rock my socks like it did for some others.</p>
<p>I don’t want to give too much of the plot away, but suffice to say it’s a rather terse melodrama, criss-crossing different time periods to show us two sets of mother-daughter relationships from the same family. There’s some good stuff here I guess, although ultimately none of it is worth a huge big gushing film-geek collapse. The three central performances absolutely work. If you like beautiful, neurotic women who stay in loveless marriages and conduct boringly illicit affairs with badly-acted Mexican men you’re going to love Kim Basinger. A nice little mastectomy sub-plot leading to a big boob(less) reveal and the emotional freedom of taking a lover who loves/lusts you for your big boobless self? Oh yes. Being incredibly fragile and nervey throughout this rather hackneyed process? Oh yes yes yes. Looking absolutely BUFF TING for an old lady wife? INDEED. Yes, that’s a lot of boxes ticked that I’m certainly responding to. YOU GO KIMMY. Charlize and the striking actress (Jennifer Lawrence) who plays her younger self throw in similarly arresting (although not-quite-as-lovely-on-paper) performances.</p>
<p>Will I be raving about these turns in a few years time? Probably not. These ladies grabbed me for the duration of the film, yes indeedy, but I know you similarly minded lot out there, and me, will have them fade from our collective memories alarmingly quickly. What will stay is the rather visceral visual conclusion to the film, which you know is coming from the beginning, but hits hard when it does, down fully to the rather majestic lensing that consistently elevates the content of the film. Oh, and there are various cute sex scenes with an assortment of emotionally damaged peeps, if that’s your thing (it certainly is mine).</p>
<p>Definitely seek this one out, but for a quiet moment, and not for anything more than a mildly satisfying sojourn into those un-glamorous, yet actually very glamorous, lives that in times of neurotic film geekiness you might fancy a bit for yourself. But only if majestically lensed. Obvs.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Eu tenho um enorme fascínio por cinema, sobretudo por filmes que surpreendem pela densidade da sua história. <em>&#8220;Longe da Terra Queimada&#8221;</em> (<em><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1068641/" target="_blank"><strong><span style="color:#ffffff;">&#8220;The Burning Plain&#8221;</span></strong></a></em>) é, na minha opinião, um exemplo perfeito do género.<br />
Neste magnífico filme de <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0037247/" target="_blank"><strong><span style="color:#ffffff;">Guillermo Arriaga</span></strong></a>, o argumentista de <em><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0315733/" target="_blank"><strong><span style="color:#ffffff;">&#8220;21 Gramas&#8221;</span></strong></a></em> ou <em><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0449467/" target="_blank"><strong><span style="color:#ffffff;">&#8220;Babel&#8221;</span></strong></a></em>, encontramos três histórias distintas que se tocam em cumplicidades e que gradualmente se vão desfiando e aprofundando, deixando o tempo interior das personagens confundir-se e emaranhar-se na estrutura não linear que acaba por definir o filme. Há uma espécie de transposição das características do drama clássico para a narrativa do grande ecrã, uma mestria que Guillermo Arriaga parece ter já demonstrado possuir.<br />
Um elenco fortíssimo (<a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000234/" target="_blank"><strong><span style="color:#ffffff;">Charlize Theron</span></strong></a>, <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2225369/" target="_blank"><strong><span style="color:#ffffff;">Jennifer Lawrence</span></strong></a>, <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000107/" target="_blank"><strong><span style="color:#ffffff;">Kim Basinger</span></strong></a>, <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0206862/" target="_blank"><strong><span style="color:#ffffff;">Joaquim d&#8217;Almeida</span></strong></a>, entre outros) dá vida a um filme que vive das suas personagens e das suas emoções&#8230; culpa, ressentimento, ódio, abandono, amores desfeitos e amores sinceros constroem um puzzle que só no final se completa.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Vale a pena ver este filme!</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Adorei Babel, 21 gramas e Amores Brutos. E nao poderia perder o novo do Guillermo Arriaga. The Burning Plain estreiou aqui na semana passada e aqui mesmo em Boston so esta passando em 2 cinemas. Altamente indie pro povo. Sem contar que o autor/diretor e mexicano.</p>
<p>Quando sai ontem mais cedo do trabalho nao pensei duas vezes em pegar a sessao no Kendall Square.Sentada na mesa com os colegas de trabalho depois de bater o ponto descobri que o Kendall e um dos cinemas mais alternativos daqui. Nao a toa eu fiquei perdidaça ate descobrir ele. Andando a noite por ruas vazias de Cambridge. Ainda bem que era Boston e nao Sao Paulo. Senao eu teria desisitido da aventura. Sorte que ainda tive carona de um onibus do MIT. Aqui e comum as faculdades darem onibus para os alunos circularem entre dormitorios e salas de aula.</p>
<p>The Burning Plain e uma producao da Magnolia Pictures (que eu ja falei aqui anteriormente) com a 2929 e traz um elenco feminino afiado. Tanto a Kim Basinger quanto a Charlize Teron estao otimas no papel. Mas a revelaçao ficou por conta de Jeniffer Lawrence.</p>
<p>A assinatura de Arriaga e clara. O filme começa do meio e a memoria e a linha da ediçao. Sao tres historias contadas ao mesmo tempo que depois se entrelaçam e viram uma so. O enredo traz amores proibidos. Com uma força de Romeu e Julieta, com direito a brigas de familias e mortes. E como sempre se passa entre USA e Mexico. Os eternos rivais. E portato bilingue (espanhol e ingles, que predomina na pelicula).</p>
<p>E o filme mostra como bobagens podem se transformar em erros de tamanha proporçao que podem tornar o errante em zumbi atormentado pelo resto de sua vida. E tambem serve pra pensar que quando voce pensa ja fez tamanha cagada, pode piorar. As eternas repetiçoes do mesmo erro que as vezes nem Freud explica. Afinal, chega um ponto que a dor adormece e voce nao sente mais nada. No filme a personagem descambou pro sexo como sua valvula de escape.</p>

A top priority is ensuring that moviegoers can follow the story and understand the characters’ situations. Guillermo Arriaga approaches film in a completely different manner. People don’t tell their stories in a chronological manner, so why should a screenwriter?</p>
<p>After sitting down and talking with Arriaga about his latest film, <I>The Burning Plain</I>, I couldn’t speak to anyone without examining the way I conveyed my information. Sure enough, Arriaga is right. I didn’t tell my friend I went to interview an Academy Award-nominated screenwriter then ran back to my apartment before meeting her for coffee. I had to throw in that I ran back to my apartment because I went out the night before and left my wallet in a different bag. We expect out movies to be told linearly when, in fact, most of life happens non-linearly.</p>
<p>That’s the approach Arriaga is known for taking with his work. It started with <I>Amores Perros</I> and went on to <I>21 Grams</I>, <I>The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada</I> and <I>Babel</I> for which he received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay and now to his latest <I>The Burning Plain</I>. All the details come together for the audience, but it’s baffling that one man can sort out so many elements to attain that effect.</p>

Futuristic story about convicts who are players in a live action video game, controlled by real people.  The winner is set free…everyone else dies.  Granted, it appears to be a solid movie, but Crank 2 didn’t do anything for <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005458/">Jason Statham</a>’s career (especially after <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1129442/">Transporter 3</a>), and after movies like <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0452608/">Death Race</a>, <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0443473/">The Condemned</a>, and <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093894/">Running Man</a>, don’t expect to see anything groundbreaking.<br />

Kinda looks like Taken 2, but Neeson, Banderas, and Linney are all solid, and Eyre directed <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0465551/">Notes on a Scandal</a>, which got a lot of Oscar attention. Kusama directed <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0210075/">Girlfight</a> (good), but she also did <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0402022/">Aeon Flux</a> (not good).  Probably won’t see it on the big screen, but I’ll look for it on On-Demand.<br />

Not only that, it&#8217;s based on a short story by <a href="http://www.amazon.com/David-Foster-Wallace/e/B000APPJ3S/ref=ep_sprkl_at_B000APPJ3S?pf_rd_p=479564851&#38;pf_rd_s=auto-sparkle&#38;pf_rd_t=301&#38;pf_rd_i=david%20foster%20wallace&#38;pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&#38;pf_rd_r=1NFCJDH45KAM6MS6B1X4">David Foster Wallace</a> (<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Infinite-Jest-David-Foster-Wallace/dp/0316066524/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpt_1">Infinite Jest</a>), who is freaking brilliant. <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0450340/">Unknown</a> meets <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0435625/">The Descent</a> meets <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119081/">Event Horizon</a> in this sci-fi thriller about two crewmen aboard a large transport spaceship.  They wake up alone, without any memory, and start to see weird monsters and crazy visions.  Ben Foster is creepy all by himself, but this film looks dark and tense.  Director, cinematographer, and editor each have a respectable body of work in Germany, but few successes in the US.  I’ll definitely see it.<br />

This is an almost Aasimovian story about a future where everyone just stays home on the couch, and controls a robot surrogate in the outside world with their mind.  No one’s supposed to die.  Then someone does.  How do they never see that coming?  Unfortunately, Mostow directed <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0181852/">Terminator 3</a>, which, along with <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0438488/">Terminator Salvation</a>, was also written by Farris and Brancato.  If I see Schwarzenegger once, I’m throwing popcorn.<br />

Like most classics, however, this one is yet again being twisted and exploited by the film industry.  The effects look cool, but the story seems a bit off, and the shameless addition of lurid sex scenes, while generally enticing, is just corrupting another good book, so today’s teens can read the smutty film novelization instead of the real thing.  Not sure when it’s hitting the states, but the UK gets it next month.<br />

Nevertheless, Bettany and Connelly are generally good, and the genuine emotions in the preview look solid.  Not sure when we’ll see this one, but once again the UK gets it next month.<br />

Las tres películas cuentan diversas historias independientes que confluyen en un momento de su trama debido a un accidente. Por ello, si bien son historias independientes, afectan notablemente la una a la otra. Esta primera película tiene un marcado caracter Méxicano, mostrando la realidad del país vecino a Estados Unidos. Iñárritu no titubea al mostrar la cara más amarga de su país, la situación de desigualdad social y la realidad de la calle.  Esta película, como las posteriores, tiene una marcadisima ruptura temporal. Sería imposible contar las historias sin recurrir a flash-backs&#8230; Las tres historias son estas:</p>
<ul style="text-align:justify;">
<li><strong>Octavio y Susana: </strong>Octavio se enamora de Susana (mujer embarazada de su hermano Ramiro). Este convence a Susana para huir a Ciudad Juarez, pero para ello necesitarán dinero, el cual Octavio piensa conseguir con peleas de perros.</li>
<li><strong>Daniel y Valeria:</strong> Daniel es el jefe de una importante revista, gracias a la cual conoció a Valeria (una modelo española). Al enamorarse de esta, Daniel decide dejar su familia e irse a vivir con Valeria.</li>
<li><strong>El Chivo y Maru:</strong> El chivo es un ex profesor que, por diversos motivos (una fuerte implicación con el comunismo, la bebida &#8230;) acaba abandonando a su familia. Vive en un edificio abandonado y se gana la vida haciendo encargos para mafiosos o asesinando gente. Le gusta ir a espiar a su hija Maru, quien lleva una vida totalmente normal y alejada de su padre.</li>
</ul>
<p style="text-align:justify;">En este punto, ocurre un accidente para así cambiar el devenir de las cosas en las tres historias. Cada historia acaba a su manera, con finales muy a la altura del filme, realistas. Especialmente interesante es el final de la historia del Chivo y como este ve en el perro de Octavio el reflejo de sí mismo, por lo que decide cambiar radicalmente su estilo de vida.</p>

Esto permitió a Iñarritu contar en sus secuelas de un reparto más conocido y de mayor calidad. Es de destacar que Iñárritu nunca cambiase de guionista, siendo <a href="http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guillermo_Arriaga">Guillermo Arriaga</a> el artifice de esta espeluznante historia. La pelicula gano 11 premios Ariel de la academia Mexicana, un BAFTA, el premio de la academia Inglesa a mejor pelicula de habla no inglesa, el premio de la crítica del festival de Cannes (lo que muestra su aceptación en el mundillo del cine) y fue nominada a mejor pelicula de habla no Inglesa por la academia de los Oscars. Increiblemente fué Ang Lee (con &#8216;<a href="http://www.filmaffinity.com/es/film488497.html">Tigre y Dragón</a>&#8216;) quién se llevó el premio.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Dijo el eminente literato Chateaubriand que la vida humana no es una, sino muchas, y que la causa de nuestra infelicidad es la incapacidad por discernir esos <em>cambios de vidas</em>. <em>21 grams</em> se me antoja una expresión gráfica de aquella máxima filosófica. En ella <strong>se enfrentan las emociones más básicas de tres personajes (el amor, la muerte, la redención) para describir los extraños ciclos de la vida que tales conflictos puede generar</strong>. En ese sentido, esa triple dirección de la historia converge con las líneas narrativas de su notable antecedente, <em>Amores Perros</em> (ambas escritas por Guillermo Arriaga), película con la que también guarda evidente relación de simetría en lo que concierne a la propuesta formal: la psicología como coda de un montaje segmentado e irrespetuoso (o casi) con la convención narrativa, todo ello para <strong>proponer –con más complejidad en esta ocasión- un acercamiento más emocional que intelectual, a lo que coadyuva el abuso de los primeros planos, la utilización de la música y el sonido, la degradación de la luz, y el más extravagante ensamblaje de situacione</strong>s.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">  Brillante en muchos compases, víctima de cierto efectismo en otros, valiente en su propuesta en todo caso, <strong><em>21 grams</em></strong><strong>  posee esa extraña cualidad de conservarse en la retina del espectador</strong>, mérito que sin duda debe atribuirse en buena parte al talento que derrocha el completo reparto, y especialmente a la personificación de la fragilidad que bordan Naomi Watts y el <em>tour de force</em> de sobriedad interpretativa de un Sean Penn cuyo magnetismo desarma al espectador (de hecho, no es extraño adivinar el interés de Sean Penn por interpretar uno de los tres roles principales de esta segunda película de Alejandro González Iñárritu, cuyas concomitancias con el cine de/dirigido por el actor/director son más que evidentes, especialmente con <em>The Crossing guard</em>, la historia de un padre destrozado por la muerte de su hija en un accidente de tráfico que planea el asesinato del autor accidental del mismo, quien a su vez convive con el terrible peso de la culpa).</p>

<p align="center"><strong><em>Futuros</em></strong></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">  En el desenlace final regresamos al terreno del citado antecedente <em>The Crossing Guard</em>: allí, Nicholson y David Morse, tras una lúgubre y patética persecución por las calles, saldaban cuentas con el pasado y abrían la puerta a la redención en un hermosísimo plano en el que se daban la mano inclinados ante la tumba de la niña muerta; en la película de González Iñárritu, otro plano final rubrica el <em>leit-motiv</em> de la narración: Naomi Watts, que acaba de descubrir que será madre de un niño concebido con el finado (o casi) Penn, se aposta en la ventana del hospital y le dedica una cálida mirada a Benicio del Toro, involuntario verdugo de su vida anterior. En ambos casos, <strong>víctimas y verdugos descubren que son algo más que eso, y plasman el perdón en su más lírica expresión.</strong> Más allá del desenlace abierto de <em>Amores Perros</em>, aquí la puerta que se abre hacia el futuro incierto no es del todo negra.</p>

<title><![CDATA[My days with Charlize]]></title>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Η ταινία ξεκινά. Στην πρώτη κιόλας σκηνή, η Σαρλίζ –Σόφι, Σίλβια, Μαριάνα, συστήνεται με πολλά ονόματα- σηκώνεται από το κρεβάτι και κοιτάζει έξω από το παράθυρο. Είναι γυμνή. Η σιλουέτα της κόντρα στο γαλακτερό φως ενός χειμωνιάτικου πρωινού κόβει την ανάσα. Τη δική μου, τουλάχιστον. Παρακολουθώ την καινούρια ταινία του Γκιγιέρμο Αριάγα «The burning plain» στο θερινό «Δεξαμενή». Απέναντι, στο «Saint Geogre Lycabettus» έχουν γάμο. Τα αργά πλάνα της ταινίας καπελώνονται από τα παραδοσιακά τραγούδια του γάμου. Αδιάκοπα, ακόμη και στις πιο δυνατές στιγμές της ταινίας.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Ο Αριάγα είναι ο σεναριογράφος του Ιναρίτου. Είναι ο κύριος «21 grams», ο κύριος «Babel» ο οποίος αποφάσισε να σκηνοθετήσει την τελευταία του ταινία έπειτα από τον καυγά του με τον σκηνοθέτη, ο οποίος μάλιστα τον οδήγησε και στην απαγόρευση εισόδου του πρώτου στην πρεμιέρα του «Babel» στις Κάννες. Σε μια επιστολή που έστειλε ο Ιναρίτου σε μεξικάνικο περιοδικό μερικές μέρες πριν τα Οσκαρ αναφέρει: «δεν επέτρεψες στον εαυτό σου να γίνει μέλος της ομάδας. Οι δηλώσεις σου αποτέλεσαν έναν λυπηρό τέλος σε αυτή τη μαγική συλλογική διαδικασία που ζήσαμε και που τώρα γιορτάζουμε».</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Η Σαρλίζ, ως παραγωγός της ταινίας, φρόντισε να μιλήσει με τα καλύτερα λόγια για τον σκηνοθέτη, την εμπειρία, το κείμενο, όλα. «Τον θαύμαζα για το γραπτό του αρκετά χρόνια. Είναι ένας από τους καλύτερους σεναριογράφους που έχουμε. Εντυπωσιάστηκα από το γεγονός ότι είχε δομήσει την ταινία σε τέσσερις γυναικείους ρόλους. Με το ζόρι βρίσκεις έναν». Η συνεργασία τους ήταν ομαλή. «Εχω κάνει παραγωγή μόνο σε πρωτάρηδες σκηνοθέτες οπότε έχω συνηθίσει να μου τηλεφωνούν χαράματα έχοντας πάθει κρίση πανικού. Στον Γγιγιέρμο δεν συνέβη ποτέ. Ηταν χαρά για μένα να δουλεύω μαζί του. Τον ενδιέφερε να πει την ιστορία και αυτό δεν ενείχε πανικό».</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Ο Αριάγα είναι πλέον μόνος, χωρίς τον Ιναρίτου. Με τη μαγική συνδρομή του διευθυντή φωτογραφίας, Ρόμπερτ Ελσουιτ, τις ερμηνείες της Κιμ Μπέισιντζερ, της Σαρλίζ, του πιτσιρικά Τζέι Ντι Πάρδο, ο Αριάγα πλέκει κατά το γνωστό του μοτίβο ανθρώπινες ιστορίες: μαμά, κόρη, εραστές και μοιχαλίδες, συγγενείς και φίλοι. Φαίνεται, όμως, ότι για την πρώτη του προσπάθεια ετοίμασε ένα σενάριο, αν όχι αδύνατο, σίγουρα όχι τόσο δυνατό όσο τα προηγούμενά του. Προφανείς οι δεσμοί, αμερικανιά το τέλος, εξιλέωση και λύτρωση τζούφια. Ηappy end. Η ταινία προτάθηκε για χρυσό λιοντάρι στο περυσινό φεστιβάλ Βενετίας μα τελικά κέρδισε ο «Wrestler», ανοίγοντας τον δικό του δρόμο υποψηφιοτήτων και βραβείων.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Κάνει αρκετή ζέστη εκείνη τη μέρα και το γεγονός ότι θα συναντήσω δια ζώσης τη Σαρλίζ Θερόν αυξάνει την εντροπία της σκέψης μου. Γράφω ερωτήσεις της τελευταίας στιγμής, σβήνω, διορθώνω, έχω άγχος. Από τον 13<sup>ο</sup> όροφο του «Four Seasons» το Λος Αντζελες είναι νεφελώδες, σκοτεινό, το trademark του λόφου του Χόλιγουντ χάνεται.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Η Σαρλίζ μπαίνει στο δωμάτιο και σχεδόν πέφτω επάνω της. <!--more-->Σαστίζω. Δεν μπορώ να κάνω τίποτα άλλο από το να την κοιτάζω –χαζεύω είπα στους φίλους μου. Η κοινοτοπία «είναι πιο όμορφη από κοντά» στο πρόσωπο της αποκτά ουσία. Και το «αέρινη». Κάθεται, της φέρνουν ένα μπουκάλι νερό, με κοιτάζει, περιμένει την πρώτη ερώτηση. Δυσκολεύομαι να συγκεντρωθώ. Χαμογελά. Ξέρει ότι αρέσει. Μαύρο πουκάμισο με τρία (3) ανοικτά κουμπιά, μαλλιά χαλαρά πιασμένα, με τούφες να πέφτουν στον λαιμό και το μέτωπό της.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Τη ρωτάω για την καινούρια της ταινία -το σενάριο της οποίας βασίζεται στην πρώτη υπόθεση σεξουαλικής παρενόχλησης στα δικαστικά χρονικά, κάπου στη Βόρεια Μινεσότα. «Αυτή η ιστορία έγινε το 1989 και τελεσιδίκησε το 1995! Για αρκετό καιρό πίστευα ότι τέτοια πράγματα συμβαίνουν μόνο σε μικρές κοινωνίες. Διερευνώντας όμως έμαθα ότι έχουν συμβεί παρόμοιες _ για μην πω χειρότερες _ ιστορίες στο Σικάγο και στο Ντάλας. Και σοκαρίστηκα! Μιλάμε για μεγάλες πολυεθνικές εταιρείες και για γυναίκες που ζουν σε μεγαλουπόλεις. Θέλω να πω, δεν συμβαίνει μόνο σε αγροτικές περιοχές και _ κυρίως _ δεν έχει πάψει να συμβαίνει ακόμη και σήμερα. Η συγκεκριμένη υπόθεση έκανε την ιστορική τομή, έγινε ορόσημο». Η ταινία ερευνά την αλληλεπίδραση στις σχέσεις ανδρών &#8211; γυναικών και τη λεπτή γραμμή που χωρίζει το αθώο και αβλαβές πείραγμα από το προσβλητικό και χυδαίο. Παρενόχληση, φόβος, σιωπή&#8230; Με κοιτάζει στα μάτια, παίζει με τα καπάκια από τα μπουκάλια του νερού ακριβώς δίπλα στο κασετοφωνάκι μου –ο πονοκέφαλος της απομαγνητοφώνησης.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Έγινε ευρέως γνωστή με τη συμμετοχή της στο «Δικηγόρο του Διαβόλου». Ως μοντέλο την είχαμε θαυμάσει στο τηλεοπτικό σποτ του Μαρτίνι να της ξηλώνεται το φόρεμα αποκαλύπτοντας το υπέροχο σώμα της. Μάλιστα είχε δουλέψει και στην Ελλάδα ως μοντέλο. Πρώην μπαλαρίνα, πρώην μοντέλο, εγκαθίσταται στο Χόλυγουντ αναζητώντας το όνειρο της. Και το πετυχαίνει. Κάτοχος Όσκαρ για το «Monster», αμέσως μετά το αδιάφορο «Aeon Flux» και τώρα η «Άνιση μάχη». Πόσο δύσκολο θεωρεί το να ενσαρκώνει υπαρκτά πρόσωπα; «Μπαίνεις στην ψυχή του άλλου, “παίζεις” τη ζωή του, οφείλεις λοιπόν να είσαι προσεκτικός. Προτού ξεκινήσω μια βιογραφική ταινία, ερευνώ εκτενώς τη ζωή και τον χαρακτήρα του ήρωα. Δεν θέλω να νιώσω ποτέ ότι εκμεταλλεύθηκα ανθρώπινες ιστορίες μόνο και μόνο για να κάνω άλλη μια χολιγουντιανή ταινία. Δεν μπορώ να το παίξω “Θεός” με τη ζωή του άλλου, προτιμώ να κοιμάμαι ήσυχη τα βράδια. Οσα έγιναν στο ορυχείο ήταν πράγματι πολύ άσχημα, δεν θελήσαμε λοιπόν να τα ωραιοποιήσουμε, ούτε όμως να υπερβάλλουμε σε κάτι».</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Τα γυρίσματα έγιναν εκεί, στο ίδιο ορυχείο, και δεν χρησιμοποιήθηκαν κομπάρσοι. Επαιξαν οι κάτοικοι της περιοχής, οι ίδιες εργάτριες. «Οι κάτοικοι της Μινεσότα ήταν εξαιρετικά φιλόξενοι και μας επέτρεψαν να τους μελετήσουμε. Δεν είναι και το πιο εύκολο πράγμα, ειδικά σήμερα, να πεις σε κάποιον “γεια χαρά, μπορώ να έρθω σπίτι σου να δω πώς τα πας με τα παιδιά σου;”. Ηθελαν να ακουστεί η αλήθεια. Κάθε φορά που τους ευχαριστούσα, μου έλεγαν “μη μας ευχαριστείς, μόνο την αλήθεια να πεις”». Μόνο δουλειά, δεν το έριχναν έξω;«Ήταν υπέροχη εμπειρία, αξέχαστη θα έλεγα! Μαγειρεύαμε όλοι μαζί, πηγαίναμε για ψάρεμα στις παγωμένες λίμνες, κάναμε snowmobile, πράγματα που δεν είχα ξανακάνει», μου λέει και γελάει. «Αργά το βράδυ κάποιοι έφευγαν για τη νυχτερινή βάρδια. Πολύ σκληρό, αν σκεφτείς ότι το μόνο που θέλαμε ύστερα από όλα αυτά ήταν ένα ζεστό μπάνιο και ύπνο». Ναι αλλά πώς αντιδρούσαν στο γεγονός ότι η Σαρλίζ Θερόν βρισκόταν στο σπίτι τους και τους ρωτούσε για τη ζωή τους; «Νομίζω ότι περισσότερο εντυπωσιάστηκαν από το ότι ένα ολόκληρο χολιγουντιανό συνεργείο είχε εγκατασταθεί στο χωριό τους». Δυσκολεύομαι να το πιστέψω. Με δυσκολία συγκεντρώνομαι όσο είμαι απέναντι της, πόσο μάλλον να έρθει σπίτι μου, σκέφτομαι.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Μεγάλωσε στη Νότια Αφρική. «Οι γυναίκες εργαζόμενες σε ορυχείο είναι για μένα μια οικεία εικόνα. Μεγάλωσα σε μια πολύ μικρή πόλη της Νότιας Αφρικής, όπου λειτουργούσε ορυχείο. Σέβομαι τρομερά αυτές τις γυναίκες για τη δύναμη που επιδεικνύουν. Δεν μεμψιμοιρούν, δεν λυπούνται τους εαυτούς τους, ενώ η εκπληκτική αίσθηση του χιούμορ που διαθέτουν τις βοηθάει να τα βγάζουν πέρα».</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Μου δίνει την αίσθηση πολύ δυναμικής γυναίκας κι αναρωτιέμαι πως θα αντιδρούσε η ίδια σε ανάλογη περίπτωση. «Δεν μου έχει τύχει, οπότε δεν ξέρω πώς θα αντιδρούσα στην περίπτωση που θα μου συνέβαινε κάτι τέτοιο. Θα ήταν απλοϊκό να έλεγα ελαφρά τη καρδία: “Ναι, κι εγώ αυτό θα έκανα”. Απαιτεί τεράστια αποθέματα δύναμης. Η Τζόζι επέδειξε δύναμη που ούτε η ίδια γνώριζε ότι είχε». Έχει και η ίδια όμως μια μελανή ιστορία στη ζωή της. Η μητέρα της είχε πυροβολήσει θανάσιμα τον πατέρας της. Δεν θέλω να τη ρωτήσω κάτι γι’ αυτό, δεν υπάρχει κανένας λόγος να την ταράξω – εκτός αυτού είναι και οι αυστηροί publicists δίπλα της.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Μόλις τριάντα ενός, σχεδόν άβαφη και «λουσμένη» με τον ήλιο του Λος Άντζελες. Η ταινία εκτυλίσσεται στη χιονισμένη Μινεσότα. «Αυτό που μου αρέσει στη Νίκι-τη σκηνοθέτιδα της ταινίας-  είναι η καθαρή σκηνοθετική ματιά της». Εχει δίκιο. Εχει μια ομορφιά η απλότητα της δουλειάς της Κάρο. Πλάνα του ορυχείου από ψηλά. Βιομηχανικό σκηνικό και λευκό χιόνι.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Η συγκεκριμένη ιστορία έχει γίνει και βιβλίο πάνω στο οποίο πάτησε το σενάριο. Οταν κυκλοφόρησε, οι κάτοικοι ένιωσαν πολύ άσχημα. Βλέποντας τυπωμένη τη δική τους αλήθεια, αισθάνθηκαν αμηχανία. «Για εκείνους τους ανθρώπους ήταν κάτι παραπάνω από ένα απλό συμβάν. Η δικαστική απόφαση σήμανε κάτι σαν λύτρωση: τους επέτρεψε να συνεχίσουν τη ζωή τους, καθαροί από τύψεις. Οσο για τον υπόλοιπο κόσμο αποτέλεσε απλώς μια υπενθύμιση: ναι, τέτοια πράγματα εξακολουθούν να συμβαίνουν, οπότε οφείλουμε να είμαστε προσεκτικοί». Ήταν εξαιρετικά «διαβασμένη», έμεινε τρεις εβδομάδες εκεί και επικοινωνεί ακόμη με τους κατοίκους.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Για ποια πράγματα θα επαναστατούσε η Σαρλίζ Θερόν; «Υπάρχουν παγκόσμια προβλήματα για τα οποία πιστεύω ότι όλοι μας θα πρέπει να κάνουμε κάτι». Οσον αφορά την ίδια&#8230; κάνει κάτι: είναι ενεργό μέλος της οργάνωσης κατά της κακοποίησης των ζώων, Peta, του προγράμματος Project Angelfood για τη σίτιση και υποστήριξη των οροθετικών, του συλλόγου για τα αδέσποτα ζώα, Bestfriends κ.ά.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Η head publicist της μπαίνει στο δωμάτιο ειδοποιώντας με πως έχω μια ακόμη ερώτηση. «Μια φωτογραφία μαζί;», ρωτώ. «Ευχαρίστως», λέει χωρίς κέφι. Περνάει το χέρι της πίσω από τη μέση μου, σκύβει. Η φωτογραφία βγαίνει κουνημένη. Εκείνη χάνεται στους μεγάλους διαδρόμους του Four Seasons.</p>

<p>La sinópsis:</p>
<p>Lejos de la Tierra Quemada es un film romántico envuelto en misterio acerca de una mujer con los nervios a punto de estallar que emprende un viaje emocional hacia el momento crucial de su vida en el pasado. La oscarizada Charlize Theron encarna a Sylvia, una bella gerente de un restaurante cuyo comportamiento profesional y sereno enmascara la tormenta sexual que hierve en su interior. Cuando un extranjero procedente de México la enfrenta a su misterioso pasado, Sylvia se ve lanzada a un viaje a través del espacio y del tiempo inextricablemente poniéndola en contacto con personajes dispares que forcejean con sus propios destinos románticos. En México, una chica huérfana de madre, María (Tessa Ia), vive feliz con su padre y el mejor amigo de éste hasta que un accidente trágico lo cambia todo. En la ciudad de Las Cruces, en la frontera de Nuevo México, dos adolescentes, Mariana (Jennifer Lawrence) y Santiago (JD Pardo), encuentran el amor tras la desgracia de la repentina muerte de sus padres. En un remolque abandonado, una ama de casa, Gina (la ganadora del Oscar, Kim Basinger), emprende una aventura apasionada que hará que Sylvia y los otros se precipiten por el camino que colisiona con el explosivo poder del amor prohibido.</p>

<strong>Objective Rating:</strong> 4/10 (gets points for dialog, cinematography, special effects/design and acting)</p>
<p>More of a three part miniseries than a movie.  Unlike most movies that do this multiple-stories-because-we-can&#8217;t-be-bothered-to-make-one-story-good-enough-to-make-a-movie b.s., the stories actually are dependent on each other in crucial ways. But there is no unifying climax; they just each do their own thing, and that&#8217;s it.  Only one character in the whole movie is even remotely interesting. And it doesn&#8217;t help that the supposed-to-be-very-serious turning point for that character is funny. The music is a mess. For the first hour there&#8217;s no music. Then out of nowhere, it&#8217;s loaded with bad Mexican pop music. For the last hour or two, it has what sounds like the score from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mighty_Max_%28TV_series%29"><em>Mighty Max</em></a>.</p>

You’re thrilled about putting together all the pieces, but once that initial pleasure wears off, you’re left with exactly what you knew you were going to get and have nowhere to put it. Academy Award nominated screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga continues to use his signature multi-narrative structure in his directorial debut. Funny thing is, this first-time director’s film falters in the area he’s well seasoned in, the screenwriting. Just like his highly acclaimed films <I>Babel</I> and <I>21 Grams</I>, <I>The Burning Plain</I> makes the viewer think. The problem is, you’re never compensated for your work.</p>
