Today I received a Claim ID and confirmation about the application. It just took one day for them at Guinness to review the application. It doesn’t mean they accepted the claim, it’s just information about their internal process.

This is the second time we have contacted Guinness World Records. I sent the online record attempt form today and signed digitally their ARRA (Agreement Regarding Record Attempt) and Terms and Conditions. A few minutes later the online agreement was in my email box with the WebClaim ID.

Deze indringende vraag werpt zich thans op nu het wereldkundig is gemaakt dat Lucky is overleden.

Lucky was volgens zeggen het oudste schaap van de wereld en naar verluidt ook het meest gebruikt om in slaap te komen.

Het ongelukkige beest vertoeft thans op de eeuwige grazige weiden en heeft, zo bestaat het vermoeden, al contact gehad met een stuk of wat jonge rammen, die al in een eerder stadium het leven lieten.

Saillant detail is dat het schaap zou zijn bezweken aan de hitte, maar we kunnen ook gevoeglijk aannemen dat ook aan een schaap, hoe oud ze ook is, vanzelf een eind komt, hitte of niet.

Aan hen die vanavond voor het slapen schapen gaat tellen vragen we vriendelijk om na de laatst getelde schaap een moment van stilte te betrachten…

Oudste schaap bezwijkt in hitte

MELBOURNE -  Lucky, met 23 jaar en zes maanden vermoedelijk het oudste schaap ter wereld, is in Australië aan de hitte bezweken. Dat heeft de eigenaar van het dier dinsdag laten weten.

Lucky heeft tijdens zijn lange leven alle liefde ontvangen van zijn baasjes, Frank en Delrea Westgarth.

In september 2007 erkende de organisatie Guinness World Records Lucky als het oudste schaap ter wereld. Ze was toen 21 jaar oud.

Eigenaar Delrae Westgarth zei dat Lucky is overleden op de boerderij van het gezin in de staat Victoria. Het schaap was daar ook geboren. Lucky is onder haar lievelingsboom begraven.

Het is onbekend welk schaap zich nu het oudste ter wereld mag noemen.

We were lucky enough to work with Guinness World Records again this year as they celebrated their annual event ‘Guinness World Records Day’ on Thursday 12^th November. An estimated 200,000 people around the world came together and attempted a wide range of records in celebration of the fifth annual Guinness World Records Day. The global event attracted record breakers from every continent striving to make their mark in the famous book.

TNR worked closely with the Guinness World Records Team across their TV, Online and Radio PR and enjoyed yet another very successful year achieving national and international coverage.

It seems highly unfair that someone should have this much fun at work as the TNR production crew travelled the far reaches of the globe to film weird and wonderful record attempts, including;

The Most Nationalities in a Sauna – Finland;

The Highest Standing Jump on a Bicycle in Italy;

and The Furthest Distance to Pull a Bus with your Hair in London.

The Romance was truly brought back to London’s St Pancras international railway station, in an attempt to set a Guinness world record for the largest group hug. The record was set by 112 people hugging for one minute.

The footage was picked up by the International London bureaux’s, the UK’s national and regional TV stations as well as multiple online editorial sites.  The radio day achieved 29 radio interviews with BBC and large commercial stations across the country.

Many boxing experts casted doubts about Pacquiao’s chances of winning this one – not because they had wavering belief in his speed and firepower but simply due to the fact that ascending to a heavier boxing division can normally take a toll on the body’s strength.

But Manny proved them wrong.

Manny Pacquiao is now in Cloud 9 for the 7th time in his colorful and history-setting boxing career. I’m pretty sure his parade around the metropolis upon his arrival will bring millions of Filipinos to the streets just to acknowledge his latest contribution to the country. And yes, he is the Modern Filipino Hero whatever his detractors would say.

Paging Guinness World Records…..I think now is the time to honor Manny Pacquiao as the only boxer with the most number of world divisions under his belt!

In England: Rosie Jones managed it SEVEN times, beating fellow bra removal expert Becky Rule on six.  And our 30E beauty now looks set to make the 2010 edition of the famous book.

Thrilled Rosie said: “It was actually a lot more difficult than it looked – I want people to know that.  “My hand aches, my arm aches and my muscles have grown!  “But I’m so proud to have made the record books. I can’t wait to tell everybody!”

Last year, Page 3’s Ruth Reynolds set a world record by kissing 42 lads in just 30 SECONDS.

Ralph said: “It’s not every day we adjudicate a record attempt quite like this.

“But both girls did really well and congratulations to Rosie!”

Hundreds of people across the world will today take part in wacky record attempts.

In London, 59-year old Manjit Singh will pull a bus with just his hair.

Commuters at St Pancras Station will attempt to set a new record for the most people hugging for one minute.

While the longest conga on ice will be formed at Alexandra Palace. Guinness World Records editor Craig Glenday hailed Rosie’s success – and added: “We look forward to seeing dozens of new records being broken around the world!”

Para entrar para o Guinness, Tony Adams, que mora em Wellington, fez impressionantes 1.056 passos de sapateado em um minuto. No auge da performance, ele realizou 23 passos em um segundo. Mas, na média, foram 17,6 ’sapateados’ por segundo.

A Wellington stockbroker has reclaimed his spot as the world’s fastest tap dancer – beating his previous record by almost double.

Tony Adams set a record of 610 taps in a minute last year, but this was soon topped on British show Guinness World Records Smashed where a contestant managed 784.

To prepare for his next attempt Mr Adams said he trained with two-time world mountain running champion Melissa Moon.

“I went from being a non-runner to regularly running half marathons.

“But I have to say I’m pleased I don’t have to run up the hills of Wellington any more as she just about killed me at times,” he said.

The second record attempt took place in June on the Good Morning show, but Mr Adams has had a long wait for the official verdict to be released.

The Guinness team used slow-motion video footage to count the taps and eventually reached a tally of 1056 taps in a minute.

Mr Adams began tap dancing as a child when his mother put him in classes to overcome a leg deformity which saw his legs bound in callipers and destined for surgery.

Within a few years he was strong enough to run and play sport. He went on to win national dance titles and became New Zealand’s first male tap dancing teacher.

Recently non-profits have been utilizing social media for charitable causes. Perhaps the most notable recent example is Drew Carey’s bid of $1 million for the Twitter name @drew, with all of the proceeds being donated to cancer research.

With BeatCancerEverywhere campaign, a social media fundraising effort was underway looking to set a Guinness Book World Record “for the distribution of the largest mass message through social media” in a 24 hour period.

For every tweet, Facebook status update, or blog post containing the #beatcancer hashtag, eBay/PayPal and MillerCoors donated 1 cent to cancer research. With a captive audience of social media users, the hope was that the campaign would go viral and raise significant money for charities. These groups included: Stand Up for Cancer, Bright Pink, Spirit Jump, and Alex’s Lemonade.

Guinness World Record confirmed the success of the campaign, which at 209,771 mentions in a single day achieved an estimated 100 million overall impressions of the #BeatCancer message. Not only did the campaign set a newly-developed world record for online impressions, but raised over $70,000 in the process from its financial sponsors.

Mumbai, Oct 20 (PTI) Playing video games for long hours is often termed as an addiction, but a city youth has used it to his advantage to make a world record by playing a game non-stop for more than 40 hours on his playstation.

Chirantan Patnaik has successfully broken the current world record made by a US citizen last year for the longest continuous play session on ‘Grand Theft Auto IV’ of 28 hours and 1 minute.

An official of Guinness World Records told PTI from London that Patnaik’s endeavour, made in the presence of independent observers and under public scrutiny last month, was recently verified by them.

“The longest continuous play session on Grand Theft Auto IV is 40 hours 20 minutes, by Chirantan Patnaik (India), at the offices of the gaming blog NeuralChaos.com from 4-6 September 2009,” Karolina Thelin, PR executive of Guinness World Records said.

The Warays made history Sunday by breaking the Guinness World Records (GWR) on the largest wine tasting event.

The official figure: 7,187 participants.

Prior to Sunday’s event, the Guinness World Records wrote An Waray Party-List – Octubafest Tagay’s organizers:

“The current record for ‘Largest wine tasting event’ is:

The largest wine tasting event involved 5,095 participants at the Plaza de Toros in Aranda de Duero, Spain on September 15, 2006.“

That changed Sunday, October 18, 2009 when over 10,000 Waray-warays trekked to the MacArthur Landing Memorial National Park at the Government Center in Pawing, Palo to participate in the world breaking attempt and also to raise relief aid for the victims of the recent typhoons that devastated Luzon.

After validating registration records, the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) certified that 7,187 actually participated in the wine tasting event of our native coconut wine – tuba. There were at least 3,000 more who were there to witness the event.

Before the record can be officially changed, organizers have to submit to GWR all evidence – registration records, official certifications and documentary evidence to back up the formal claim.

Once done, we hope it would put the Warays on the world map!

KATMANDU, Nepal – Now that he’s all grown up, 18-year-old Khagendra Thapa Magar of Nepal wants the world to know just how tiny he is.

Magar, who stands 22 inches tall, has been waiting four years for his chance to take the title of the world’s shortest person.

On Thursday, a day after his birthday and becoming an adult, supporters mailed an application package to Guinness World Record in London seeking to stake his place in the record book.

Ranamagar said it was not clear how long the certification process would take. When Magar applied four years ago, Guinness officials said he would need to be examined by a doctor to confirm he had stopped growing.

The current record is held by 21-year-old He Pingping of China, who is 29 inches tall.

Preparations for the holding  of the 2nd Octubafest shift to high gear this week as organizers buckle up to accomplish two major objectives in this year’s tuba-tasting feat: that of establishing a new world record of having the most number of participants tasting wine together; and raising relief aid for typhoon victims of Ondoy and Pepeng in Luzon.

Octubafest’s “Tagay,” to be held Sunday, October 18, 2009 at the MacArthur Landing Memorial National Park, aims to assemble over 7,107 participants (symbolizing the country’s number of islands) and all together taste the native wine, tuba in an attempt to break the current Guinness World Record of  5,000+ wine tasters being held by Spain.

At the same time, the event aims to raise relief aid donations – rice, canned goods, clothing, toiletries, etc. – for the thousands of victims of the recent typhoons which hit Luzon.

South Africa has made it into the Guiness Book of records again yesterday – with the world’s largest omelette.

South African chefs, Bruce Robertson and Ryan Bradbury, broke the world record for the largest omelette ever made at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town – via News24

Some stats:

• Weight: 3.2 tons
• Skillet: 14 meters in diameter
• 60 000 eggs
• 500kg of cheese
• 200kg of tomatoes

The omelette would be used to feed underprivileged children around the peninsula.

The previous record, according to the Guinness World Records website, was held by The Lung Association, Brockville, Canada who managed to make an omelette that weighed 2.95 tonnes at the Brockville Memorial Centre, Ontario, Canada on May 11, 2002.

PR Week has hit the nail on the head, again. Turn to page 20 of this week’s copy and read for yourself how digital communications is by no means a flash in the pan!

The report from Cathy Wallace, highlights the findings from the PR Week’s Digital Survey which was conducted amongst PR and comms teams. It asked comms professionals to back up their claims and prove their digital credentials. The survey revealed “how the PR industry views digital right now and where it might be going”. The findings were interesting to say the least, and as a communications consultancy incorporating digital media into campaigns more and more, we thoroughly enjoyed their findings.

Digital comms has really picked up pace and has everyone talking about it. PR Week has found 83% of clients request digital to form part of the PR activity. Which is unsurprising considering how the internet has officially overtaken word of mouth as ‘the most influential source of information when considering purchases’ (Weber Shandwick Inline Research 2009). So the end consumer, the client and the PR agency are all now embracing the world of video sharing sites, social media, blogging, twittering etc.

PR Week also reported last week that 30% of senior PRO’s already embracing online video and a massive 70% already seeing 2010 as the year where video will be the most important interactive channel.

We have certainly seen a large increase this year alone for requests for online video. PRO’s are beginning to see the added value to their campaigns of making the same footage, content and story available to online editorials as well as social media sites. One news story now needs to reach multiple media platforms simultaneously.

At TNR we regularly take the broadcast news footage we shoot (B-Roll) and edit it into a finished piece (A-Roll) for the online editorials; tweaking it for video sharing sites; and fine-tuning it for corporate websites. The same footage and ultimately the same message can now go beyond traditional media and reach the growing online and digital audiences.

That’s what I call bang for your buck!

A recent example of a very successful multimedia campaign was the launch of the 2010 Guinness Book of World Records last month. We knew that not only would this story capture the imagination of TV audiences and radio listeners, but the online news providers and editorial pages as well as social media, with their YouTube page. done

From our experience, every PR campaign that comes our way needs to be thought of as a multi media campaign. Can it work in the traditional broadcast arena? Can we edit the footage for online editorials? Do we need a video only with stills? What about a podcast with the celebrity spokesperson?

Having a multi-view will produce a multi media campaign.
