Now that both Cameron and I are both official Canadian Permanent Residents, we thought we’d celebrate the Canadian way – by buying ourselves a rather large truck..

We only collected it yesterday and since today was such a beautiful day we thought we’d go on a little adventure. After a breakfast of homemade hash browns and bacon (thanks to my lovely husband) we headed off towards Rissers beach.

We found some cool shells and even a massive lobster claw – I bet there would have been some good eating on this guy! We’re looking forward to eating some lobster again soon (lobster season has just started).

Rissers beach (provincial park) stretches for about 1 km and then a boardwalk runs over an inland marsh and eventually brings you back to the car park.

A tunnel takes you under the road..

Once back at the car we decided we would head a long to Crescent beach (literally 2 mins from Rissers beach). It’s equally beautiful and the novelty (for us Scots) is that you can drive along it.

By this point the bacon and hash browns were wearing off so we headed back to Bridgewater to trusty old Tim Hortons. After that we ventured along the Centennial trail, before a hasty drip to the dollar store and Save Easy (the grocery store). As I’m typing this I can smell the roast beef cooking and to top it all off Cameron has just told me he’s going to take me out for a pint of Guinness after dinner. An all round good Sunday!

october 2 my flat mate, Dori and I set out at 4:30 am to go visit Dublin for the weekend. Our fligh

october 2 my flat mate, Dori and I set out at 4:30 am to go visit Dublin for the weekend. Our flight wasn’t until 8 am, but it’s an hour trip to the airport then security..blah blah blah. We arrived in Dublin at 9am, and randomly enough six girls we go to school with were there and staying at the same hostel. The bus in Dublin took us from the airport and dropped us off in the center of the city. The streets were mostly shops and just people, not a ton of traffic. By 11 am we found a Burger King and couldn’t resist.

I caught a cold that week, and Dori caught right up to me so our moods were not great and the fatigue was greater.

Dori and I crossed the bridge past the Heineken building and were relieved to find our hostel, Ashfield House was literally right there. We went inside to find maps and offers on things to do while we were there, we only planned to go to the Guinness Factory and see what kind of tours they had to offer.

Dori found a map, it was in spanish, but it had all of the major landmarks around the city, so we used that. We walked around the block from the hostel to find the Bank of Ireland, which was across the street from Trinity College. The gates were open so we followed the crowd to wander the gorgeous cobble stone campus.

After following the paths and finding a different exit out of the college came upon the National Gallery of Ireland. They had a Edward Munch exhibit-which I was thrilled about-and the museum itself had three floors of galleries -one floor held a real Picasso and a Monet

The Munch exhibit was one floor of 4 galleries. It held at least a 50 of Munch’s original lithographs of sketches. I saw an original Madonna of his and The Scream.

After taking in the gallery Dori and I continued our aimless walk and headed toward the Park to find the Oscar Wilde statue.

The statue was life size replica of Wilde on top of a huge boulder, almost as if he was lounging. And across from him there was a small obolusk with some popular quotes of his.

That night we met a pub crawl tour in front of Trinity College. 3 pubs and a club with free shots and drink specials. Dori and I were both first time travellers so we were very paranoid about leaving our bags at the hostel so we turned into “those girls” at the bars with our bags knocking into everyone. By the time we reached the club we were spent and headed back to the hostel.

Saturday started out very interesting. Dori screwed up her booking in the hostel so we were in separate rooms and our phones didn’t work, so we’d set times that we would meet in the lobby. I was on the 4th floor (all steps, no lifts) in a 6bed girls room. By 5am I felt awful for hacking all night and didn’t want to wake up any of the strangers surrounding me so I got ready and headed down to the lobby where I knew a big comfy couch was awaiting.

Dori and I weren’t set to meet until 10 am, so I was planning on curling up wrapped around my things and resting until she met me. Around 7am an Irishman approached me and started talking gibberish to me. First he asked where from America I was from (i guess americans stick out like a sore thumb) and asked how dracula was doing, (pennsylvania-transylvania, those irish think they are so funny) then remembered that pennsylvania really have all the amish people so he asked me about my farm. then he asked my opinion on dublin and guinness, and what i was expecting “have you found any leprechauns and rainbows yet? I know that’s what you americans look for when you come here”

Dori showed up on time a couple hours later and we decided to walk to the Guiness Factory hopefully finding a gallery or two on the way. Well we didn’t see any galleries, but there were churches everywhere. Eventually we found the Guiness Heaven and took the tour of 7 floors and 3 tastings, ending on the very top of the factory in a circular room that was all windows and gave one of the greatest views of Dublin. If anyone is ever going to be in Dublin I’d recommend the tour, it was self guided and they have loads of information from how they make the drink to advertising behind the drink throughout the years. Good stuff. (and the tastings along the way weren’t bad either)

We wandered back into the city and checked out some of the markets when we realized we needed to figure out how we were getting to the airport to catch our 6am flight the next morning.

Well after some panicking we found out we had to sleep over in the airport. Not the ideal way to spend our last night in Dublin but I was sick and Dory was becoming ill, so we didn’t care. We grabbed some dinner, medicine, and multiple packs of Halls cough drops and took the bus to the airport around 9pm.

There was actually a sort of strange inevitability about today, Saturday 21st November 2009. For one

There was actually a sort of strange inevitability about today, Saturday 21st November 2009. For one thing Scotland were to play Australia who are at number 3 in the IRB rankings and Scotland have just crept up to ninth after last week’s defeat of Fiji. Who knows how yesterday will affect this again?

We had already decided we were going to try Illegal Jacks for food today and as we arrived in Edinburgh took the Western Approach Road that would bring us out near to Jacks. We found it and decided our eating plan: Pearces in Leith Walk for a snacketto and Jacks after the game.

Pearces is an old fashioned kind of pub near the top of the Walk definitely a 30-40’s bar and today it said on the outside, no football colours. Mainly because the Jambos were playing I guess and me in my Scotland top too. But this is Rugby football: not association football as played by the louts of Scotland. We had a great starter that we all ravenously tore into – a smorgasbord (literally) of smoked salmon, prosciutto, olives and cheese etc – we do believe in looking after ourselves. Oh, and Guinness for me – medicinal reasons before you ask.

We set off to the stadium still filled with an expectation that didn’t dare to be spoken of – could we win?

By now it was pitch black and as we crossed under the railway bridge at Murrayfield, it began to feel the different excitement of a night game. It felt like a 6 Nations match – the crowds were huge and I felt at home again. Our seats again in the East were facing into the 22 zone and for at least one half we would see the action close up. Little could I have expected what!

The stadium lights went out – totally – and we gradually got a little light as the bands arrived. Australia arrived in almost total darkness and when even before Scotland came in, seeing them on the large screens coming into the tunnel from the dressing room, the crowd went wild. On setting foot in the stadium the pyrotechnics we see usually only at 6 Nations burst into action, the crowd totally wild. Shortly afterwards the lights began to come on and we settled down to watch the game. We saw little of the first half as Australia camped themselves in the Scotland half and kept being held back and pushed back. It was the same for the second half but Scotland were doing the pushing until the fateful last 5 minutes.

After the Aussies scored their try we knew what this would mean – conversion was the end of a valiant effort and of course Matt Giteau didn’t convert the try as we now all know but at the time until the ref blew the whistle for full-time we were all stunned until we realised that he had missed (again).

Emotion. Pure and Raw emotion was the result as the crowd – already on its feet – erupted and the proclaimers “500 miles” was played and the crowd sang over and over again.

It was with a sense of disbelief that we went on to get food and somehow become used to the idea of who we had beaten.

When eventually we got home at about 10.30, I was speechless and just drained.

So despite all of the negative stuff that went through my mind today – why can’t people arrive on time for the game? why do they leave before the end? where were all these supporters last week for the Fiji game? If we as Scotland supporters support them only at the sexy games, how can we say that we support them at all? – I managed to just be happy that we had won.

As they say in all of the best childrens’ stories and they went to bed, tired but happy. I now know how that feels.

but

WE WON!

WE BEAT AUSTRALIA!

The journey I have been looking forward to for a very long time was here! After months of pre-planning, I am leaving for Ireland! This was my first journey alone, so I did all the planning by myself using sites like bootsnall.com.

I woke up at 6 am to make some food- my lunch and dinner for my flight. I made some hoagies, tempeh sandwiches, granola bars, apples, and banana nut bread. Since everything was already packed, all that was left for me to do was finish my cooking and getting to EWR. Ahh it always feels good to leave for a long journey!

At 9:10 am, I was set to go. And off I went to EWR. From my place to EWR, it takes about 2 hours to drive up there from the NJ turnpike.

When I got to the Newark Airport, I said bye to my parents and checked in. I have to tell you that my check in time was seriously fast! Once I got there, I checked in went through security and got to my plane terminal. It was a fifty minute wait. Can’t beat that!

As I flew with American Airline, we stopped in Chicago O’Hare for the final stop before going to Ireland. When I arrived at 1 pm, I went directly to my gate for Dublin, even though my layover was 6 hours long. Lower airfares means longer or more layovers. But that’s ok with me! As long as I would be flying to Ireland, I can take the wait! I found a courtyard along the way ad ate most of the food that I brought with me along with a Starbucks Caramel Macchiato.

It was a good thing that Neil let me borrow his laptop for this, I was able to work on my grad. school personal statements while chatting with Neil, Linda, Tien, and Eric. The real crappy thing with this airport is the lack of plug outlets! Ack!

Whichever way you look at it, the fact that it was seeded heavily with paid promotion, it’s still makes the mark as a ’successful’ ad. Converted to sales? I’m unsure.

Broilerin rintaleike (naturel)

Guinness tölkki (4-pack)

1 tl suolaa

1 rkl tummaa sokeria

1 sitruunan mehu

1 rkl oliiviöljyä

1 tl hunajaa

1 tl tummaa siirappia

½ tl currya

½ tl chiliä

NoMu Barbecue

ripaus mitälie omia esim. salviaa

Jack Daniels -savua (optional)

Lordi: It Snows In Hell

Guinness -marinadi on pyörinyt mielessä jo kesästä asti, joten avaamme sillä grillauksen talvikauden.

Jätä odottamaan, kunnes valkeat on päällä.

“Now it snows in hell
Now it snows in hell
I’ve gone away but I’ve got you in my heart
All frozen and scarred”

Cheers mates!

Arthur Guinnessin tummaa stout -tyyppistä olutta on valmistettu jo vuodesta 1759. Samettinen ohrapirtelö viettää siis 250 – vuotissynttäreitä, eikä suotta. Mikäli Guinnessia on tarjolla hanasta – One for me, please! Kaisaniemen Mollysta mokomaa saa vielä Extra Coldina! Kannattaa käydä tutustumassa Guinnessin sivuille ja opetella mm. kuusivaiheinen, oikeaoppinen tapa kaataa Guinness -tuoppi.

1,5 dl Guinnessia (loput kokille)

1 punasipuli

2-3 valkosipulinkynttä

1 rkl oliiviöljyä

1 dl ketsuppia

0,75 dl omenaviinietikkaa

50 g sokeria

0,6 dl vahvaa kahvia

2 rkl tummaa siirappia

2 rkl Dijon -sinappia

2 rkl tomaattipyrettä

2 tl Worchestershire -kastiketta

Manjit Singh, a 59-year-old security consultant from Leicester, England known as the “Ironman,” pulled a double-decker bus weighing more than eight metric tons over a distance of 21.2 meters with his hair.

The new record was set in central London to coincide with the fifth annual Guinness World Records Day, which organizers said prompted thousands of people around the world to set some bizarre benchmarks of their own.

For Singh, his latest achievement makes up for the disappointment of 2007, when he failed to break the record for the furthest distance to pull a double-decker bus with the ears.

“I will never be discouraged by defeat, because I know that success can be waiting around the next corner,” he said. “The only way to get there is to try again and stay positive.”

Also in London, 112 commuters put aside their English rush-hour reserve to set a record for the most people hugging for a minute, while Shaun Jones won the title for the fastest hot water bottle burst at 18.81 seconds.

In Italy, a new fastest time was set for eating a bowl of pasta (one minute 30 seconds) and in Norway the largest ever gingerbread man was made weighing 651 kg (1,435 lb). In Finland, people from 76 nationalities fitted into a single sauna.

Not everyone was successful, however. In Australia, 228 people were not enough to break the largest bikini parade record. Guinness World Records is considered the authority on world records, and its book has sold over 100 million copies.

We then headed up to the border of zones 2/3 to Hampstead Village adjacent to Hampstead Heath for an enchanting walk (thanks to a course charted by The Unofficial Guide to London) through one of London’s oldest and most charming areas. On the way back into central London, we stopped at Camden Town to check out the market, pick up some more Christmas gifts for family/friends (;)), and get Madre her long-awaited Guinness at The World’s End pub. After heading home to watch our appearance on TV Burp (!) we headed out to get Madre a true London curry at the Indian restaurant down the block, Miran Masala–delicious food and an adorable old Indian man owner! It hit the spot…especially because nothing gets you in the mood for local, freshly made sweets from Hampstead Village like spicy curry Yup, there’s a method to our madness!

Sai o conceito “Good Things Come To Those Who Wait” e entra “Bring It To Life”.
