1. I thought I might send something to Mr. B over Christmas. I want to send zucchini bread, but it seems like it might not work. I did a lot of research, and found a recipe that complied with all the suggestions, such as not using butter or margarine, or brown sugar. I’ve been conducting an experiment to see if it molds sitting in tin foil and a plastic bag for 3 weeks, and I’m very of excited to look at it next Wednesday!

I’m also sending, regardless, one or two guitar player magazines that had interesting articles, and that he may like to play the exercises in, and a CD. I tried very hard to leave off the mushy songs, but suddenly, and for the first time, I’m incapable of not being gooey and in love.  Bah.

Otherwise, he’s been unreachable for 2.5 weeks, and I miss him a lot. He said 2 weeks to a month at first, then whittled down to 2 weeks by the time he left, so I don’t know whether to be worried or just accept that the organization has a mind of its own, and will do whatever it pleases with whoever it pleases regardless of me, though really it should be me they consult on their every move, because I’m sure I know better.

2. I’ve been watching Desperate Housewives and Supernanny. I love the vindictiveness, and I laugh when the little kids back-talk. I’ve been awfully bored.

3. Went to Ikea for the first time. Today is rib night! It was fun to wander around, because it’s large and confusing, and i felt like it would never end and that I was always walking inward, and therefore was amazed when it ended and I was on an outer edge of the building. I want all of the rooms. But it was quite exhausting to look at them all. In the end, I found a chair down an aisle of the self-serve furniture area, and sat for forty minutes with the vague hope that someone I came with would eventually wander by, and might carry me to the car.

My name is Mikkel and I’m a guitar player and have been for some 20 years now. I play in what I consider the best band in the world Fast Gallows. Like any other guitarists out there I like to talk about gear so I thought to my self – why not do a blog about it. So this is it.

I play a Gibson Les Paul and that is my favorite guitar and has been my main guitar for some years now. I also have a Gibson SG that I love, a Hagstrom Swede, a Fender Strat and a Ovation accoustic.

My amp is a Koch Multitone head wich really is a killer amp. I have tried many other amps from Marshall Jtm 45, Marshall JCM 2000 to Mesa Dual Rectifier but the Multitone is by far the best one yet. It’s a very allround amp but I use it for hard rock and it really got a lot of balls!

Thats it from me now but I will be back with a lot more about my guitar gear.

Taken at Playa del Sol. This guy walks up and down the beach, stopping at each palapa looking for customers wanting a special song. He was not the best player or singer, but he put a ton of emotion into his performance.

Before you all jump out of your seats and point out that tonight’s review is one of the oldest and most reviewed indie classics of all time, it is still one of the best films ever made, and with last years release of a commemorative box set  the film is all the more relevant.  If anyone is stupid enough not to have guessed what it is from the title it is Robert Rodriguez’s 1995 classic Desperado.

The film follows El, in the follow up to El Mariachi (possibly one of the finest low budget films ever made), he is out for revenge after the death of his lover and the damage to his hand which temporarily ruined his ability to play guitar.  After going around a small Mexican town on a killing spree that makes the holocaust look like Von Trap family waving you goodnight, he eventually finds the man he is looking for (as well as new woman to love).  This leads to a final showdown between El and his old enemy.

There are many elements which make this film stand out.  The direction is absolutely superb. After seeing what Rodriguez good do on a budget so small you would struggle to feed a dwarf for a year he certainly relishes the opportunity to show what he can do when he does have some cash. Rodriguez times every element of the film perfectly.  From the opening scene when you see El standing on top of a bar strumming away whilst tackling members of the audience, you know your in for a treat so rare you would have to be Christopher Columbus (not the director who deserves to have his head held under water, but the explorer) to find another one like it.  From then onwards he drip feeds you sumptuous cinematic moments one after the other.  From the moment Steve Buscemi tells a story about El killing every one in a similar bar to another one about a man urinating all over a watering hole, told expertly by Quentin Tarrantino, which leads in to a sequence where El destroys th establishment is arguably one of the greatest opening half hours in movie history.

The spaghetti violence is priceless.  From funny to terrifying, the violent sequences create the film.  It judders from one apocalyptic moment to another.  It is the skill of Banderas as an actor that he can portray the invincibility usually associated with James Bond with a vulnerability and tiredness for what he is putting himself through.  Rarely is the violence appalling although if your squeamish it probably won’t be one for you.

The other element that sets the film apart is the acting.  The lead trio Banderas, Hayeck and Buscemi are spellbinding.  Banderas as the lead draws all the attention, and rightfully so.  He adds depth to a character who could so easily have been as one dimensional as the hideous XXX films or as flat as Coca Cola which has been left in the sun for 5 weeks.  It is this versatility of emotion yet commanding lead presence that surely propelled his career into the Mask of Zoro along side Catherine Zeta Jones, the only shame is that it did not lead to greater and more significant roles.

Hayeck was also very good.  She is passionate yet tough.  No one else could have played the femme fatale stuck between these two warring figures better.  Her performance puts many a Hollywood actress to shame and surely should be a lesson to Kate Bosworth after her miserable performance in Superman Returns (surely one of the reasons the film was a relative flop).

Overall this is one of the greatest films of all time.  There is no question that this film deserves to be watched by anyone who considers themselves to be a human being with a tenth of a brain cell.   Everyone apart from Mary Whitehouse would be able to recognise that the violence is fun and entertaining.  After watching this you should be strapped down to watch the prequel El Mariachi and Once Upon A Time In Mexico if not then hopefully a a guitar playing Mexican will knock on your door and shoot you.

How is everything going? I hope spring is in full bloom and you’re able to get outside and enjoy some decent weather. It’s been fantastic weather here in Japan and it’s nice to put winter behind me for a while.

I want to give a big thank you to all of you who have joined my mailing list and my eteam. As you might know, I’ve posted a couple new songs on my site for free download. I’m really happy with how many came by to grab them and leave comments as well. The newest song “What Have I Done” as you know, is a really rough demo (recorded in my bedroom live). It needs a bridge, and the lyrics need to be moved around, axed, or altered. But the feedback on the song makes me think I might just re-record it when I’m making my new CD. Hopefully in the upcoming months I’ll post some other ideas I have so that I can get your honest feed back. I really want the songs on the next CD to be for you. Meaning – while I always write from the heart, I write often and sometimes it’s hard to know which songs will end up being the most universal. Your opinion really matters to me.

May was a great month for gigging and it was nice to play on a regular basis after a fairly quiet winter. Hands down, playing live is where I sell most of my CD’s. It goes to show there is nothing more captivating than a live performance. To me, a great CD and a great live performance are completely separate from each other. A great CD can have all the bells and whistles and be polished to perfection but doesn’t always show the true artist. I wish I had a chance to play live in front of most of you on a more regular basis. If I get enough support and a healthy budget I am planning on doing that after the release of my next CD.

I walked out of the laundromat,  noticed him sitting in a comfortable chair enjoying the beautiful, lazy afternoon, and playing his guitar.   The chords he picked were easy and relaxed.

Typically I avoid photographing people.  He, however, looked very approachable.  I walked over and asked if he would mind if I photographed him while he played and I told him that I was most interested in his hands on the guitar.  He smiled his relaxed and friendly smile and nodded.

While I photographed him, he continued playing.  We then started talking, sharing stories of music and the guitar.  Our conversation/photo shoot went on for several minutes.  What a nice guy!  I wonder what his name is?

For now I guess I’ll just have to call him “The Guitar Player.”

See, I just want to tell you my story with Next Level Guitar. See I have been playing guitar since I was 11 and now I’m a lot older. I played on and off for over 20 years and I did know how to play a little but never really learned what a real guitar player needs to know for them to become really good. I knew the major and minor chords and some blues chords. But when I started Next Level Guitar, I went ahead and started from the beginning just like if I did not know anything.

Now after starting from the beginning I’m on lesson 100 and I have learned so much more then I ever had. I sure wish I had this when I started because I would be another Stevie Ray Vaughan. But I guess it’s better then never getting good at all. I’m so glad I came across this program and I know you will also.

Lisa Loeb Is Pregnant

Singer Lisa Loeb and her husband Roey Hershkovitz are going to be parents, her rep confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.

“They’re excited to welcome their first child this winter,” says Loeb’s manager Janet Billig Rich.

Loeb, 41, and Hershkovitz , 31, a music production supervisor for The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, met in 2006 at a business meeting and were engaged last November.

Their winter wonderland-themed wedding, featuring all-white centerpieces and tiny deer figurines, was held at Manhattan restaurant Brasserie 8½ in January.

The singer, who wore a pink wedding gown by Amsale Blue Label as she exchanged vows with Hershkovitz in front of 275 guests, told PEOPLE the evening was “the most fun night ever.”

Loeb launched her career in 1994 with the number one single “Stay (I Missed You).” She heads up her own non-profit, the Camp Lisa Foundation, which helps underprivileged children attend summer camp.

Jean Paul Agnesod Guitar Solo – Korn version – Another Brick in the Wall

Today I want to introduce another famous guitar player – David Howell Evans, better known as The Edge. He is the guy with the signature guitar sound who makes us recognize any U2 song in less than 3 seconds.

The characteristic of his style is the use of sound effects especially the use of delays. For non musicians this might be a bit boring to listen, that’s why I want to keep it mega short today. Personally I am a huge fan of him, because he is a band player, means he serves the song first instead of playing for the spotlight. Maybe you have noticed already, I am mainly introducing guitar players with this kind of characteristic – as I did already in case of Porl Thompson of “The Cure” and also George Harrison in the articles “Porl’s Guitar” and “And Your Bird Can Sing“…

Anyway, the following video I found on YouTube so we can listen to The Edge explaining his concept personally besides showing his equipment and letting us listen to his guitar sound without the band.
