My son has found Youtube. Apparently thanks to new kids in the neighborhood. I have now listened to the Gummi Bear song a thousand times. I’m posting it here for you to get a glimpse of my life (click on the “play” arrow about 43 times in a row – take a quick break – about the time it takes to turn on an xBox 360 and do whatever you do to Master Chief when aliens invade earth and then you make it to the next level and forget about it because you want to hear the Gummi Bear song again – and then press play another 23 times and you will start to get the idea).

Lewis has a homework assignment to memorize the states of the southeast region of the U.S. (stay with me folks - it’ll wrap back to YouTube). He has to memorize the states, their abbreviations and their capitals by Monday. Assuming he knew some of them already, I told him to give me his study sheet for a quick quiz. As I took it from his hands he said he only knew Louisiana because he had just looked at it and I told him that was fine, we’d start there.

I asked, “What is the capital of Louisiana?”

Lewis replied, “Hold on…I just saw it…OHHH…..it’s LOS ANGELES!!!!”

Don’t worry, don’t worry – I suppressed the laughter.

“That’s not correct, Lewis. Let’s try again,” I said.

“But it has to be,” he told me. “It said LA next to ‘Louisiana’.”

I didn’t suppress it this time.

I explained to my innocent child that LA was the abbreviation and that Baton Rouge was the capital. He said that was a hard name to remember so I came up with a GENIUS plan…YOUTUBE!!! I played this video:

Next we moved on to Arkansas. He memorized “AR” and I realized my new teaching method would work once again, thank you Reba McIntyre. Except what fun is two country music stars when you can teach your child the capital of Arkansas with this video:

And yes I did….not the whole video, just to the first chorus. I left out Lady Fancy collecting dollars from adoring fans. He has plenty of time to learn about all that…

Someone’s got some ’splaining to do. I could use a context for this:

It’s not often you see something online in the original Hungarian. I have found myself in the proverbial shotgun shack asking myself how I got there. It was not a video I was looking for, I’ll can tell you that much: Husband was playing with some modeling clay with Fella and Filly, and I guess they were looking up pictures like Wall*E and Eve, and Teletubbies for models. That led to a YouTube search for Teletubbies, which included some fan video of them dancing set to a club song, and then Fella saw the Gummy Bear face in that list of related videos. Beyond the fact that Dipsy and this Gummy Bear have round, green faces, I’m not seeing the connection. Dipsy has never driven a black pneumatic lift low-rider convertible through the Hollywood Hills to my knowledge.

But this:

This explains a lot. Now I know why I love the Outback Steakhouse commercial so much. This is a commercial I will turn the radio up to listen to. I’ve stopped channel surfing to hear it. I love every single holiday version of it, and now it all makes sense. Plus I’ve learned about a whole bunch of new music and bands to explore: the Elephant 6 Collective.

Fella is equally captivate by both videos, as am I. We watched each of them several times in a row. We already like gummy bear candy; hopefully we can avoid kicking off some Outback Steakhouse obsession. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but Filly doesn’t do well in restaurants right now and dining out is kinda expensive. But there is an Outback Steakhouse just down the road! You should try the Alice Springs Quesadilla, because nothing says melted cheese and chicken on a tortilla better than Alice Springs.

The Of Montreal video I found because I had been talking about favorite commercials with someone, who asked me if I had ever seen Jemaine from Flight of the Conchords in the Outback one. I hadn’t, so I looked it up in Google (jemaine outback steakhouse youtube was my search string) and this video was referred to in the search results, via some blog post. Always far more interested in sellouts and outrages than Jemaine–no offense, Jemaine!–I clicked through to get the story. I did end up watching the Jemaine commercial, but I don’t like it as much because it doesn’t have the song. Semi-vegetarianism < catchy tune.

And once more, with a didgeridoo!

This Video is so funny. I love this video, and i think that everybody who watches it will love it too. It’s also a catchy song. Sometimes I catch myself singing it and my Friends sing it too. I love the fact that they have this animated gummy bear singing and dancing around. I think that this should brighten any ones day, if they are having a bad day. I love the gummy bear voice, it’s like one of the chipmunks but not as high.
