Episode 45 – “SID the Destroyer”

What’s a light if it can’t shine? That’s exactly what Zeheart is until Asemu showed up. Interesting Asemu’s mission way back after the birth of Kio was actually to locate EXA-DB? How does Flit and the rest of the federation not know? Aside from that Asemu had actually encountered SID the unmanned mobile suit compiled to protect the EXA-DB. When I said Zeheart didn’t shine, sure he unleashed thousands of bits but it was until Asemu’s strategy that he unleashed the full potential of Gundam Legillis – yet we still don’t know what that potential is besides revealing its eyes.

There are disappointing moments, SID with all the knowledge of EXA-DB only has lasers, and the umbrella shield. Why does it have bits like the rest of them? And the before mentioned super pilot that they genetically made, why didn’t he show up in a brand new spanking Gundam to destroy SID and show Zeheart how it’s really done.

Redeeming moments is the tag team by Zeheart and Asemu they really resonate well with one another. SID somehow did manage to survive the finishing blow dealt by Zeheart. From the looks of it, SID will return with bits, hopefully and stronger and hopefully SID will find out Zeheart’s true nature and side with him to end this idea of superior race of humans.

It’s not that I don’t like the idea, but I can’t enjoy a series that seems to pull plot devices out of its ass just to keep moving forward. Some Gundam series use pre-existing facets of human history to create arcs and plot points, on more than one occasion Soviet-era nuclear devices were involved. You can use these without prior recognition because they already exist, but you can’t (easily) throw in a giant sentinel mobile suit that’s supposedly been orbiting the Earth sphere, guarding the supposedly forgotten collection of ALL of human military data without any hints or clues beforehand…seems like someone would write that down and pass a memo along. Something like “Don’t go to co-ordinates XXX-XXX-XXXX, there’s a big, f***ing robot up there”… And to top it off, the vengeful idiot is in charge of the fate of humanity.

I think Flit should be allowed to just murder all the Vagan in cold blood, it’d be more interesting than him turning over to Kio’s way of thinking. Meanwhile Asemu doesn’t agree with anyone, because he’s a pirate, and pirates don’t agree with regular people. And space pirates don’t agree with other people either, and instead fly around in giant robots.

I just wish Gundam AGE would stop putting mediocre characters through jumpy plot devices to force an ending that could’ve had potential. I’m so far into it now, I’m just waiting for it to end, it seems…

Episode 44 – “Diverging Paths”

And the final phase of project Eden is about to begin. A new superior race will rule while the inferior will suffer and perish into oblivion. The sad part is Zeheart is actually going through after hearing it from the mouth of Ezelcant and of course numerous times from Asemu. Ezelcant has already begun his superior race by none other than gene selection.  Another new character will be introduced in the battle of La Gramis – It’ll be Vagan’s most talented pilot ever: Zera Gins.

Savior, it’ll surely be the deciding factor in this tug of war. The fact is Flit believes he’s still that savior and not the Gundam. One thing’s for sure though, a Gundam will be the savior whether you like it or not. From the looks of it Vagan can actually win this war, and Eden can become a reality. And maybe for the first time a “villain” would win it all? Vagan has troops going to La Gramis and Zeheart is most likely going to because the keeper of the EX-DB and probably retrieve it. The Keeper of EX-DB looks like an unmanned machine and if Vagan gets their hands on it, can we say… March of the machines?

Any who, the Keeper of EX-DB looks pretty cool, the way it looks makes it a guardian and it certinaly reminded me of the upcoming Bioshock infinite’s dark raven that keeps the girl in the sky.

Play God or just guiding humans into a better path? What is human? Manipulating with genes is one thing but completely changing the course of how humans are meant to live is playing God. I find it funny how Ezelcant claims we’re not “human” because of warfare. Plus the way he claims it won’t be a dictatorship is complete BS. Do you really want people of Eden believe a man who created Eden won’t lead them? Let alone they don’t want him to lead them?

Previews:

After (yet again) commanding the Federation front from the shadows through Algreus, Flit embarks in the suped up AGE-1 to join Kio and Asemu now fighting a 3-on-2 battle while Federation forces dredge closer to the base on the lunar surface. Determined to exterminate the Vagan at all costs, Flit tells Algreus to prepare the Plasma Dive Missile, able to obliterate the entire base in an instant. Like most tactical weaponry, this missile isn’t picky about what’s in it’s area of detonation, most likely taking out all the Federation forces on the surface as well as Vagan.

Critical to any Gundam series is the romantic aspect, someone has to die for their lost love, and someone has to save their love-to-be. As the fighting continues, Reina begins to lose control of her X-Rounder abilities, and even takes control of Fram, Zeheart, and Kio’s bits as she lets loose attacking everyone out of spite for Girard’s untimely death. Kio tries to placate her with his “we dont’ have to fight” rhetoric, but, unable to move, all the X-Rounders are useless as Reina goes mad with power. I was hoping it’d be the Ace Pilot’s time to shine, and out-fight the X-Rounder, but it was Flit’s quick shot that was able stop her rampage. Kind of…disappointing, really (I hate giving him credit). But not before the star-crossed lover caused Zeheart’s suit to be damaged, leaving Fram to keep him safe from the premonition she had before the battle.

Back to Flit’s looming threat of Plasma Dive Missiles, Abis gets word of the preparations, and sees through Algreus’s endgame. They have 20 minutes to clear out the base, or die trying. Thankfully, the Vagan had competent command, understanding the value of their soldiers’ lives. Surrendering their officers with the condition that other personel be allowed to retreat, the Vagan return control of Luna Base back to the Federation. And I’m left conflicted, I like Fram, but she’s stealing Zeheart away from the one true bromance…oh, and Vagan’s home base thingy is headed towards the Earth sphere now.

Episode 43 – “Splendid! Triple Gundam”

And… here we go again, “Ms. Spriggan, please stop fighting. We can talk it out and we’ll understand each other.”  Like father, like son right? Asemu goes on about the same rant on Ezelcant. If the first and second time doesn’t go through to their head, what makes you think the third time will?

Just at the ending of the last episode, we were given a glimpse of Reina losing control of her X-Rounder abilities. This time around she fully loses control and it appears that it can overcome every other X-Rounder in the vicinity. Reina was able to take over the sword bits, flower bits and the light bit thingies from Zeheart. Even at another near death situation, Kio refuses to strike Reina. Because of his refusal grandpa Flit does what Kio would have never done. Finishing off Reina, she can now rest peacefully with Girard.

For the fights for Lunar Base and the triple Gundam fight was all lack lustered. All were overshadowed by Reina’s inability to control her powers. Earth Federation Forces did retake Lunar Base without casualties.  Vagan once again lost another battle; they almost lost Zeheart if not for the good-hearted Kio stopping infuriated grandpa Flit.

Actually from this episode the next few episodes will like drag out to 50… like how they dragged Reina’s mini arc.
