From the opening surf rock riffs of “Lust for Life,” Girls’ Album had many-a-listener hooked. Lead singer Christopher Owens, a former member of the Children of God cult, and orphan, sounded like damaged goods– but confidently so. His delivery of his shortcomings, wants and needs was corny, yet refreshingly and endearingly witty. Owens never tries to reinvent the wheel, but rather, just plays what’s on his mind.

Maybe that’s what stands out about Girls’ Album, above all else. Owens kindly caters to cliches without any fear of repercussion. There are no limits to Album whatsoever. One second, he’ll be strumming along to something resembling an intoxicated Brian Wilson (“Goddamn”). The next, a ’50s love ballad (“Big Bad Mean Motherfucker”), laden with profanity in his downtrodden murmur. Each track is a distinct state of mind– its own chapter in the larger, still-obscure picture.

Taking from everything from The Beach Boys to Buddy Holly to Guns ‘N Roses, there is little ground left untouched by Girls. Because of this, the space they inhabit seems absolutely limitless– a potentially weighty concept for a band in its infancy. Yet, after such a strong debut, it seems warranted. The future may hold the answers for what’s to come, but at this moment, Girls have one of 2009’s most varied and creative works on their hands.

Am descoperit „antidotul” pentru crime, jafuri și chestii de genul infracțiuni. Cum să nu devină copiii de azi criminalii de mâine dacă sunt crescuți în spiritul Guță? Cum să nu-și dorească și ei să fie boss-i, bahări, baștani… cum să nu-și dorească să moară dușmanii și să aibă femei de femei??? Cum??
Hao să facem un sondaj: câti punk-eri, rock-eri, house-eri…emo până la urma ați văzut să comita crime, jafuri sau violuri? Ăștia-n cel mai rău caz se sinucid, ceea ce nu e neapărat rău (spun eu devenind puțin meschin).
Așa că voi, cei ce-mi citiți gândurile, gânduri cretine dealtfel, oferiți cultura muzicală copiilor voștri, de acolo pornește tot, și ajută la educația lor. Nu le trebuie neaparat Pavarotti sau Felicia Filip, dar trebuie să știe cine-i Savoy, Pitiș, Pasarea colibri, Genesis, Rolling Stones, etc fiindcă aș putea continua mult…

Muita gente gosta de Metal, eu gosto de Metal, o meu vizinho gosta de pagode. Mas enfim, mesmo quem não gosta de Metal, concorda que ninguém ganha dos metaleiros no quesito “Romance”. É claro, sertaneja dói os cotovelos mas é boa. No caso imaginam que roqueiros andam largados, fodidos, muitos bêbados, drogados e quebrando cadeiras uns nos outros. Em parte está certo. Mas quando é para fazer uma letra sensível e sincera os caras fazem. E noutro minuto berram.

Mas então, vou compartilhar aqui o meu ranking pessoal das dez melhores músicas de Metal Romantico e algumas músicas também românticas e outras nem tanto. Podem (e devem) comentar os seus.

I LOVE dark chocolate! …my favorite “flavor” of dark chocolate or way of eating it is combined with orange peel or orange peel bits. If you haven’t had it, don’t knock it till you’ve tried it. That’s my favorite …and because I once read in Men’s Health that it’s good for you to eat dark chocolate everyday I probably take what they meant to be healthy to the extreme …haha, like I do a lot of things. I also once read that if you eat enough dark chocolate it can make you feel like you’re in love  …so instead of using illegal substances to spur my creativity on I will sometimes get “sugar high”

I’d never heard of the word Feral until one day I was chatting with my friend Gabby from Perth, Australia and she jokingly described herself as “Feral”. I laughed and said, “What do you mean FERAL?”, “That’s not a REAL word right?”. She challenged me saying that it was a real word and that means “Resembling a wild animal”. Sure enough I looked it up in the dictionary and that’s exactly what it means. I started thinking that it’d be cool to write a song called “Feral”.

So how does my love of dark chocolate relate to the song “Feral”? New Years Eve 2007 I was on a cruise and for whatever reason didn’t really feel like partying. I was in a chill, eat dark chocolate, and watch a movie mood. An hour into the movie I’d eaten enough dark chocolate that I was having trouble watching the movie so I grabbed my guitar and that’s how Feral was written. I stayed up all night until the next morning writing the song and indulging.

At the time I’d been listing to a lot of 80s hair bands… Guns’n Roses, Twisted Sister, and especially Def Leppard! That really comes through lyrically and melodically in the song. I totally stole the “F F F Feral”  idea from the Def Leppard song “Foolin”, and I even sort of used one of their lines (Def Leppard has a song called “Stand Up Kick Love Into Motion) and paid tribute to GNR as well with these lyrics…

Jump up kick love into motion
I’m outta time
I’m a rock’n roll junkie on a sugar high
Singing “oh sweet child of mine”

dar Guns’N Roses completeaza foarte bine melodia anterioara cu

O sa va arat piesa a carui videoclip m-a cam convins de ce rochie vreau sa aiba mireasa mea …. atunci cand va fi! Sper ca in curand sa gasesc melodia care imi va arata si cine este viitoare mea “jumatate” de veci! Dar iata piesa de la Guns’N Roses:

Am remarcat ca in ultima vreme am tot pus pe blogul meu, multa muzica indiferent de situatii. Acest lucru poate din simplul fapt ca , dupa cum am spus si acolo, ca ma exprim mult mai bine prin melodii, chiar daca ma vreau eu un mic expert in comunicare. Deci acest blog va cuprinde numai piesa, uneori cu eventuale trimiteri, adunate si postate aici prin cei care ii voi considera parteneri, chiar daca nu am batut palma cu ei, si anume YOUTUBE si TRILULILU. Acest mic blog il consider un mic proiect care mi-a aparut curand in cap, si chiar daca anumite persoane nu considera proiecte blogurile, dupa cum m-a mai acuzat candva, eu il voi numi in continuare proiect, mai ales ca DEX-ul ne si spune ca: PROIÉCT, proiecte, s.n. 1. Plan sau intenţie de a întreprinde ceva, de a organiza, de a face un lucru. 2. Prima formă a unui plan (economic, social, financiar etc.), care urmează să fie discutat şi aprobat pentru a primi un caracter oficial şi a fi pus în aplicare. ♢

Chiar o sa incep acest blog cu o melodie care m-a atras foarte mult catre latura rock, chiar daca ea exte mai soft. Stiu ca eram in clasele generale si m-am intalnit cu Cristi, un bun prieten al meu din Bucuresti, care venea des pe acasa, prin Harsova, si a pus o piesa Guns’N Roses, de care nu stiam atunci, care ma rugat sa o ascult cu atentie pentru ca o sa imi placa “la nebunie”! Si asa a fost. Mi-a placut atat de mult incat in scurt timp m-a transformat in mic roker. Nu sunt genul care sa ma duc in concerte sa ma dau cu capul de pereti, dar imi place sa ascult, iar daca am inceput cu balade rock, acum agreez si unele piese mai hard gen AC&DC!

Daca aveti propuneri de ceva piese interesante, va rog sa imi comunicati prin intermediul unui comentariu in care specificati ca este daor o atentioanre, iar respectivul comentariu nu va aparea, decat daca veti si mentiona lucul acesta! Totusi cei care intra pe aici si agreaza acel gen infect dupa mintea mea, si a altora, si anume manele, va rog sa nu solicitati acest lucru pentru ca nu va aparea in veci.

Deci piesa care m-a transformat pe mine in rocker, dar si care m-a facut sa ador trupa Guns’N Roses, de care va povesteam mai devreme este urmatoarea:

I only recently started my obsession to Rock Band 2, and admittedly, I don’t care if I’m addicted. Rightfully so, it pissed me off when I found out Axel Rose wants to spread his cancerous “Chinese Democracy” onto my beloved video game. Granted, I would have to download the new songs onto my Xbox 360 after April 14th, but just the thought of that, makes me squirm.

I don’t want to get into the story of Axel Rose’s delayed release of “Chinese Democracy” and how disgraceful it was that he tried pulling it off as a legit Guns’N Roses album. Whatever, I’m over it. Axel’s a douche, and he needs to cut that awful hair.

However, it made me think how awesome it would be to play Rock Band 2 (or some updated version) to small indie bands like Ra Ra Riot and Phantogram. God, that would be so much fun. Eventually this will be possible, but until then, Rock Band will continue to become just another promotion launch-pad for over-the-hill bands.

Be honest, does anyone care about the upcoming Metallica Rock Band video game? Honestly, I loved (key past tense) Metallica for a long time, but they’re way over the hill, and their songs are too one-dimensional for a single video game. I am, however, very excited for the Beatles Rock Band game set to release on September 9th. I mean, cmon, it’s the Beatles. I know my roommate already wet his pants when he found out about this.

Negli ultimi anni i film che hanno vinto il festival di Venezia non hanno avuto molto fortuna, non sarà certamente così per The Wrestler, che otterrà probabilmente almeno  2 Oscar. La storia potrebbe sembrare banale, priva di originalità.Randy “The Ram“ Robinson (Mickey Rourke) era una stella del Wrestling negli anni ’80, venti anni dopo sbarca il lunario con incontri in palestre delle periferia e lavorando come magazziniere nei week end. Vive in un sobborgo, una sorta di Trailer Park ed è un nostalgico degli anni ’80, lo testimoniano la sua capigliatura, il pupazzo del suo personaggio al culmine della carriera sul cruscotto dell’auto, la vecchia console, molto vintage, con cui gioca insieme ad un ragazzino al videogioco del wrestling e soprattutto la musica che ascolta e che lo esalta, i Quiet Riot , gli Scorpions, i primi Guns’n Roses. Infatti odia Kurt Cobain, colpevole di essere la “checca che ha rovinato tutto negli anni ’90 ”. E’ un uomo “fuori posto”, quando a causa di un infarto che lo colpisce nello spogliatoio dopo un incontro viene costretto dal medico ad abbandonare il wrestling, si ritrova ad essere totalmente solo. Inizia a corteggiare allora due donne, Cassidy (una sempre più splendida Marisa Tomei) spogliarellista non più apprezzata come un tempo e con 2 figli a carico, e Stephanie (Evan Rachel Wood) la figlia abbandonata tanti anni prima, tentando con quest’ultima una difficile riconciliazione .

Darren Aronofsky, giovane regista autore già di 2 capolavori Pi e Requiem for a Dream,

decide di abbandonare il suo stile, visionario e innovativo, per dedicarsi totalmente a Mickey Rourke, seguendolo passo dopo passo con la telecamera a mano , sin dalla prima inquadratura, svelandoci gradualmente il suo volto, le sue paure, la sua fragilità.

Ed è grazie ad Aronofsky che Mickey riesce finalmente a spiccare in volo fornendo una interpretazione da Oscar che vale da sola, per lui, un’intera carriera,  per noi, il prezzo del biglietto.The Wrestler non è la solita pellicola celebrativa dedicata a uno sport, non è neanche la classica favola sulle “seconde occasioni” e le rivincite dei “loser”.

Il film racconta l’altra America e manda a tappeto l’illusione del sogno americano e delle seconde possibilità, temi tanto decantati in pellicole come Rocky.

Quello che vediamo nel film è il wrestling di serie B, dove i lottatori mettono in scena dei combattimenti molto violenti, non adatti a chi ha lo stomaco debole, resi ancora più reali grazia alla regia di Aronofsky, con inquadrature quasi amatoriali, che non ricordano niente affatto gli incontri di Wrestling trasmessi in TV.

In uno degli incontri Randy “The Ram”  combatte fuori dal ring, tra la folla. Un suo fan gli passa la protesi della sua gamba, pregandolo di  colpire con questa l’avversario.

Ma è proprio tra quelle persone che The Ram si sente a casa propria , lottando per il suo pubblico, la sua vera e unica famiglia.

Per le musiche Aronofsky va sul sicuro e si affida nuovamente a Clint Mansell, già autore delle colonne sonore  per tutti i lavori precedenti del regista, che questa volta sacrifica un po’ del suo talento per lasciare spazio a tante Hit “metal” degli anni ’80.

Il finale dei film e fra i più belli visti negli ultimi anni, il nero che piomba improvvisamente nell’ultima scena viene gradualmente riempito dalla voce e dalla chitarra di Bruce Springsteen che ha scritto appositamente per il film una bellissima ballata. La voce del Boss riesce a commuovere ed emozionare quasi quanto il volto del Guerriero Mickey.

 The eighties fucking ruled, man, until that pussy Cobain came and fucked it all up. I’ll tell you somethin’, I hate the fuckin’ 90’s.
