Security around an Israeli Prime Minister is always tight, bordering on hysterical. With time you get used to the waste of time, to the silly question regarding your dog having access to your equipment, the chemical swab on your hands, and the ridiculous placement of the “Press Only” area.

So seing Olmert as a regular(almost, he still walks around with one-two bodyguards) person, and being able to stand right next to him without being pushed and elbowed by security is nice for a change.

Citizen Olmert has just been indicted in a corruption scandal, and that is the context for anything he does in the near future. So when he comes to testify before a committee on such an explosive and divisive issue as the Disengagement (2005) the image i have in my mind is him sitting and looking guilty. Guilty, small, beaten down.

At least that’s what i tried to do. We had maybe a minute from the moment he walked in until we were escorted out, and in that time you can’t afford to make mistakes or change positions/lenses or fiddle with your exposure. You just shoot and hope for the best, trying to work with the hand you were dealt. I ended up being blocked partially by the security, and that worked out pretty well i think, in building the context i mentioned.
